Chapter 2
"…She's not that nice." Mia said with a heavy sigh. She and Kiko laid in the moonlight, drinking rum and cokes while one the pool deck in Joe's backyard. In their bikinis they laughed making fun of everyone, even themselves.
"Whatever! She can have him, just wait, she'll die and he'll cry," Kiko laughed a little, then stopped, realizing it wasn't funny, Mia gave a fake smile and sipped her drink.
"Well she's not for him you know."
"He's a lone wolf, he will always be Mia. And I'm sick of being shoved into him." Kiko said with a slightly slur. Mia burst out laughing. They where drunk.
"Right! You adore the boy!"
"Why did I leave Mia? Cause I don't wanna see him! I haven't for almost 2 years, I was doing well till Joe and Andy' scheme hit the fucking fan." She said while dipping her toes into the water. The water reflected in the moonlight, it shimmered while they became silent. Mia sat up, and dropped her glass on the smoothed pavement. She leaned on Kiko's shoulder.
"Heard your bro is cute." Kio's face shot over to Mia.
"Wait till I tell Andy." Kio laughed, they all found out that Ryu was her brother, and Joe wasn't too happy about it either. Mia closed her eyes and balanced herself on her elbows. "And don't talk about him either." Kiko's attitude shifted, so Mia just changed the subject seeing how Kio reacted. It was strange; she was defensive about Ryu.
"Yeah, Andy and I, it's never ending." Mia mumbled in a drunken tone. Kio smiled and watched the water's surface dance in the light. "Now we need to find you a pretty one."
"Right," She sighed then looked over, hearing the guys had returned. "ANDY!!" Kio shouted. Then as like magic, Andy appeared outside.
"What now?" he barked with his hands on his hips, he seemed cranky.
"Get Mia. I'm sick of hearing her s-l-u-r her thoughts." Kio laughed at her own comment. "Hahaha! Mia, and thoughts, completely wrong sentence." Mia shot a grilling stare at her then broke out laughing. Andy shook his head then turned back to the house calling reinforcements.
"Joe, come out here and get Kio." He said, then went to grab Mia. He picked her up, and she loved it. Kio slapped Mia's dangling foot while Mia groped Andy with girlish giggles. Once Mia and Andy left, Kio didn't feel so drunk. She always thought you seemed drunker when you're with people. Kio's smile faded as she thought about what Mia said. Find a man. She hated that thought. Leaning over the water edge, she heard Joe stepping towards her.
"Oh Joe, I'm fine. I might be a little buzzed, but my mind isn't fried." She called as Joe sat next to her she looked over. It wasn't Joe. "You're not Joe."
"No." He retorted, with a have hearted smile. She looked back at the water. "It's been a couple years. Haven't talked to you, not even tonight."
"I said hi Terry." She recalled while Terry nodded his head. He was sober.
"So you did say a word."
"Oh come on, we're adults. We can speak without the tension." She admitted while sliding her fingertips over the blue pearly water.
"It's two years. What tension is there?" Terry said. Kio nodded her head and bit her lip.
"Yeah. Good point." Her voice was somewhat aggravated. She yawned as Terry stood up.
"Let's get you inside." He held out his hands.
"I'm not so drunk Terry, and the last thing I need is you taking care of me. I've been capable of that for almost 24 years now." Terry folded his arms and narrowed his eyes.
"Right. Sure you can." He retorted sarcastically.
"Actually, I can. See I might be a little drunk, but I can see straight. Hell I can even walk right." She stood up, without any wobbles or shaking. "I don't need you." She whispered before walking away. "Took me a long time to figure it out, but it came just in fucking time." She said while opening the sliding glass door, then shutting it behind herself. Terry lowered his head, picked up the glasses of rum, and drank the rest.
