Chapter III: Heaven's Charm and Mystery Men
Disclaimer: I'm back, once again. As always, I don't own Final Fantasy 10, I'm just using the characters at my own free will.
Jecht: * Snorts. * Own free will? You weren't kidding.
You have a problem with it?
Jecht: No, not really. I think you're doing a great job. I've never seen Auron so scared and he isn't even IN the story yet. I hate to see his reaction when he DOES get into it. Whoo, that's gonna be fun. * Walks off. *
I don't understand him, never will.

The duo comes across places of familiarity
And return to the place of infamy
For both in a time before.
And now they are sworn to protect its shore.
Old friends see him not as he was then,
They see him as a stranger ravished by Sin.

Wakka stood in the shadows of the platform, watching Yuna make her speech to the people of Spira. They had come to Luca for this great celebratory time, but other things were haunting the redhead's mind.
"So he's getting to you too?" The red head turned to see Lulu approaching.
"Ya." Wakka scanned the crowd of people in the dome. "It's just too weird for my liking."
"Do you think he's here?"
"I hope not. It seems that where he goes, trouble follows." Wakka began scanning the crowd.
"And what if he is?" Wakka stopped looking and looked at Lulu.
"What are you saying?"
"I want to know what we're going to do if he shows up." Wakka stared at her, confused.
"What da ya' mean?" Lulu was growing agitated at the redhead.
"It's simple, you simpleton son of a shoopuf. I want to know what WE, as Yuna's guardians, are going to do if he does show up." Wakka stared at her blankly. "You're a clod, you know that?"
"What'd ya mean?" Lulu looked like she was going to zap him. "What? What did I do?"
"What did you do? Apparently, you left your brain at home today."
"I'm sorry Lu, I've just got other things on my mind today, ya?" Lulu sighed.
"Yeah, I know." Wakka turned back to scanning the crowd. He searched for the on thing he hoped he would never see. And then he saw it. "So what do you think we should do?" Wakka didn't respond. "Wakka? Wakka? WAKKA!" He continued to stare blankly out into the crowd. "Wakka, are you IN THERE?"
"Whatever it is that we're going to do, we'd better come up with it quick."
"What? What do you mean?"
"He's here."
"What?"
"He's here." Wakka pointed out into the crowd. "Ya see him now?" Lulu followed Wakka's gaze to the familiar white head and red cloak in the crowd.
"Oh shit."
"Yeah, that's one way to put it." Wakka turned to his right. "Hey Rikku!" The blonde Al Bhed bounced over.
"What?" she asked.
"Ya see the guy in the red cloak out there?" The blonde scanned the crowd and spotted him.
"Yeah," she replied. "So what about him?"
"Is that the guy that saved you the other day?" She stared at him for a moment before turning back to Wakka.
"It definitely is." Wakka sighed, agitated.
"This is going from bad to worse."
"What do you mean?"
"We were attacked yesterday by a…" Lulu started.
"A thing." Wakka finished. "It's not like anything I've ever seen before."
"Right," Lulu continued. "It's resistant to my magic spells and tried to eat the three of us."
"Tried to eat you?" Rikku asked.
"Yes, tried to eat us." Rikku stared at her blankly. "Anyway, the thing was attacking us and he stopped it."
"And an aeon finished it off," Wakka finished.
"An aeon? I thought all the fayth were sent."
"So did I, but he had one, a nasty one at that." Wakka sighed. "I just don't like him being here. I'm worried that something will happen."
"Wakka, nothing is going to hap.." A piercing screech cut her off. Yuna turned back to her guardians, frightened. Wakka walked over to the ledge and leaned out over the railing to see what was causing the disturbance. He almost fell over the ledge when he saw it. The giant bird was gripping the tower, balancing itself with giant wings. The black wings rippled in the light breeze as the bird scanned the panicking crowd below. Wakka slowly backed away from the edge and pulled Yuna back with him. "What is it?"
"Danged if I know," he mumbled. "And danged if I'm going back there to find out." Lulu stared at him. "Don't give me that look Lu, it's not exactly the most pleasant thing I've ever seen. If want to be rid of it that bad, you go out there after it." Lulu huffed and walked to the edge. She began to summon a thudaga spell when Wakka began speaking again.
"LU!" He shouted. "HE'S GONE!" Lulu spun around and looked at him.
"What do you mean?"
"HE'S GONE! I CAN'T SEE HIM ANYWHERE!" Lulu spun around and began searching franticly for the man. 'Shit! He's right! The man just vanished into thin air!' She turned back to Wakka.
"So now what?" Wakka shrugged
"I'm not sure. As long as that thing doesn't begin to attack…" Wakka spoke too late. The bird leapt from its perch and swooped down over the all ready frightened crowd. "Never mind that now. It seems we now have a larger problem on our hands, ya?" Lulu nodded and turned back towards the bird. She raised her left hand, preparing to cast a spell when she saw it. It started as a small blip on the horizon. It grew rapidly into the form of a familiar black dragon. The beast swooped down and latched its claws into the bird. With one mighty swing of its wings, the dragon was back into the air, the bird dangling from its front claws. Lulu started as it went up and over the edge of the stadium and out of her sight. "Where did it go?" Lulu walked towards the trio.
"It's headed towards the Luca streets." Wakka stared at her.
"And you think we should go after it?" Lulu didn't reply. "All right. Kimarhi!" The Ronso turned to him. "Let's go!" The Ronso nodded and followed Wakka out of the stadium.
"Do you think we should follow them?" Yuna asked. Lulu looked at Rikku briefly before replying.
"Yes," she replied. "They need as much help as they can get." Yuna nodded and the trio followed the boys out.

Wakka scanned the area looking for the two large beasts.
"You see any thing?" he asked.
"No," Kimarhi replied. "Kimarhi see nothing."
"Shit." The pair continued to push trough the fleeing citizens, searching for the creatures. "How in the name of hell do you loose something of that size?"
"It disappears into thin air," Lulu replied. Wakka turned to the three girls.
"What are you doing here?"
"We thought you needed some back up." Wakka nodded. They were all looking for the creatures.
"This seems like a hopeless cause," Rikku mumbled.
"I'll second that motion," Wakka replied. The five some stood, exchanging glances. "So now what?" The others didn't reply. "That's what I thought." Wakka turned to the square of Luca. The screaming people had died down and now the area was pretty peaceful. He sighed. 'This day is just so screwy, what's gonna happen next?' Wakka didn't have to wait long for an answer. The dragon reappeared, driving the large bird into the ground of an open area of the square. The beast hissed as he pinned the bird to the ground. "Shit. This isn't good." And then Wakka saw him. He was sitting on the edge of the fountain, not heeding anything. He slowly arose when the beast turned his head towards him, a question in his eyes. The man stepped forward and slammed the tip of his blade into the ground. He dropped onto his left knee and gripped the blade in his right hand. Wakka stared at him, confused. He turned back to the others. They seemed unfazed, except for Lulu. Lulu looked like she had seen a ghost. Wakka was about to ask her what was wrong when Yuna gasped and pointed back to the guy. Wakka turned back to him and stumbled back a few steps at the sight. The man was kneeling, his head dropped, uttering a silent prayer. As if by magic, a pair of white feathered wing appeared. They were bright, but transparent; Wakka could almost see through the extended appendages. From the ground emerged long, shimmering tentacles. They had a rainbow iridescence to them and were as transparent as the wings. The long whips slowly began slithering out of the ground and pierced the top of the wings, slithering out of them. The slowly started to branch out after ripping through the upper layers of feathers. The man seemed unfazed by these actions. The tentacles rippled from the ground and through the wings in a disgusting fashion. Wakka stood, glued to his spot, in awe at what was unfolding before him. In a sudden flash, the man's head shot up and the wings and tentacles disappeared. Wakka blinked, confused at the action, but then he saw it. The tentacles slowly snaked out of the ground around the bird, drawing ever closer to it. The dragon released its hold on the bird and stepped back as the tentacles slowly engulfed the beast. The man stared at the bird and mouthed a few last words, "This is the way I pray." The bird exploded into a cloud of pyreflies. Wakka and the others stood aghast at the showing. The man slowly arose and walked to the dragon. The dragon leaned down and the man mounted his shoulders. With shuddering wings the dragon took off into flight and out of the field of view of the bystanders. Wakka turned back to the others. "Now why do you look like you've seen a ghost over there Lu?"
"I've…I've seen that attack before," she whispered. Wakka stared at her. "It's a high level mage spell that requires bonding with a fayth. He's drawing power from the fayth."
"What is it called?" Wakka asked. Lulu didn't reply. "Lu?" She looked down at the ground and then back up at him.
"Heaven's charm."

'Where are we going?'
'Mt. Gagazet.'
'AGAIN!? We were just there!'
'I know, but I don't have any other method of getting in touch with him yet.'
'What about the temples?'
'He's working on it.' The beast shook its head and continued flying towards Gagazet.
