Chapter Two: Scared
"So, why were you looking for Cloud?"
Aeris sighed, looking sheepishly at the taller woman. "Oh, it's nothing… It's stupid…"
Tifa sighed, almost snorting. "Come on, don't be like that, Aeris. Tell me."
Aeris blushed as pink as her dress. "I got scared. This place gives me the creeps."
Tifa laughed, but stopped, smiling apologetically. "Sorry. Why are you scared? It's not real. It's just a bunch of parlor tricks and midgets in costumes….."
Aeris looked at the ground, still playing with her braid. "I told you I was dumb…"
"You're not dumb."
"The wind and lightning made me nervous. I just…… didn't want to be alone…."
Tifa cocked her head, causing her hair to swing around her thighs. "You can stay in here."
"Are you sure?" Aeris paused, skeptical. She didn't want to bother Tifa over something so trivial.
Tifa nodded. "It's fine. I'll actually enjoy having someone to talk to."
The Ancient smiled, genuinely relieved. She didn't want Tifa mad at her. She really did care what Tifa thought of her. Tifa Lockheart always seemed so sophisticated to Aeris. She had her own business, she could fight without getting nervous, and rivaled Cloud's strength as she did it. Aeris also found herself envious of Tifa's beauty, of the sexiness that Tifa possessed, that Aeris could never have. She also wondered what it would be like to have a body like Tifa's: powerful muscles in her arms and legs from fighting, but still so feminine, her curves the kind that women would kill to have, and men would fall over themselves to have, to trace their hands over. For a moment, Aeris wondered what it would be like to see the pale moonbeams bounce of Tifa's pale flesh, if her skin was as soft as it looked.
Tifa noticed that Aeris's mind had wandered. The far off look in her eyes was actually adorable, they way she seemed to be transported to a better place. Aeris's eyes were so mysterious, so layered. She had a look of knowledge that ran to the depths of her soul. The green orbs mirrored so much knowing, that Aeris knew more about life than Tifa could ever hope to. Aeris knew things that she herself probably didn't even know she knew. Yet, she still had fresh innocence covering up all that wisdom. Undying hope and trust in everything around her that would never be vanquished. Tifa just had to stare. She had never really believed that humans had that sort of power over each other, but she felt herself being dragged into the clear green sea.
They both snapped out of it at the same time, realizing that they were just staring at each other. Each felt uncomfortable in the other's presence for the first time since they had met. There was a long silence of painstaking nervousness. It was broken when a clap of thunder from in the distance caused Aeris to gasp, practically jumping out of her skin
Aeris's sudden reaction caused Tifa to jump as well. "Fuck, Aeris. You scared me."
"Sorry."
Tifa sat on the bed, ushering for Aeris to sit, as well. "No point in standing there like a bunch of morons."
Aeris nodded, sinking down on the soft mattress. The sheets smelled like Tifa, a mixture of roses and the clean smell of the soap she used. Aeris splayed her slender fingers across the soft fabric of the covers. She closed her eyes, the satin feel turning into something warm; the feeling of silken flesh, pulling tautly under Aeris's fingertips. She could vision the way the flesh would become white as she dug her short nails in, feel the shiver of delight under her palm.
"Aeris?"
Aeris opened her eyes, meeting the drowning, warm pool of Tifa's eyes. "Huh?"
"Where did you go?"
Aeris looked down at her hand, which was pale against the dark sheets. She was actually shaking, disappointed that what she had seen was only a figment of her imagination, wanting what her mind had made up to be real.
What are you thinking? Aeris asked herself, a hot blush creeping across her cheeks.
Tifa noticed the red creeping across Aeris's pale, smooth cheeks. She balled her fist, resisting the urge to reach out and touch the woman in front of her. She was surprised that she was having these sort of feelings towards Aeris. First off, she didn't really know her that well, and what about Cloud? Tifa knew that she cared deeply for the spiky haired blonde, but could she honestly picture a future with one who was so disinterested with all around him? Aeris was so much warmer, alive than Cloud was…..
"Tifa?"
When she heard her name, she turned her attention back to the flower seller, her eyes sweeping to Aeris's small mouth. It was like a small heart, standing rosy against her pale flesh. Her lips looked like two delicate rose petals, soft and fragile. Tifa wondered if they would bruise under contact….. "Yeah?" Tifa's voice sounded huskier than she had meant it to.
