Chapter 2 ~ It All Started...

<Airship Celsius - Cabin>

Narrator (Nat): Two months have passed since that night in Zanarkand, and only three weeks since the wedding. Rikku, who had felt like the whole two months had flown by in a blur, now just wished to sleep. But, her body refused to stay in bed this morning, as she knew Tidus and Yuna would be back from their honeymoon today and she couldn't wait to see them. Hopping out of bed and looking down from the balcony she spotted Paine sitting at the table. There was a plate of eggs, bacon, hash browns and hot cakes with a cup of coffee on the opposite side of the table from her. Oddly, she seemed to be waiting on someone. Hoping that it might belong to one of the newly weds, Rikku rushed down the steps at a remarkable speed.

Rikku: "Are they here?"

Paine: "No."

Rikku: "Oh....Who'd you make the breakfast for?"

Paine: "You.

Rikku: "Why me?"

Paine: "Isn't it obvious?"

Rikku: "No. I mean you are constantly telling me that I over state the obvious, so if I don't have a clue, it must not be obvious."

Paine: "You're a smart eighteen year old girl. You'll figure it out."

Rikku: "I'm only seventeen."

Paine: "Not any more."

Nat: The Al Bhed girl took a moment to think, then, suddenly, started bouncing up and down as she came to the realization that today was her birthday. Without hesitating any further, Rikku began shoveling the hot cakes in to her mouth. She was halfway done with her eggs when Barkeep came out with a refill for the coffee and a cup for Paine. The rambunctious girl was so involved with her meal, that she didn't notice the slight nod that he gave Paine, and that he then, left the cabin, instead of returning to the bar. When she was sure that Barkeep had left, Paine looked to Rikku and set her plan in motion.

Paine: "You know I'm surprised you didn't know. I mean you did have your calendar all marked up for this day."

Rikku: "That's only to mark Yuna and Tidus's return from the honeymoon. I didn't realize it was on my birthday."

Paine: "Why is that? I mean, didn't you know that they planed to come back just so they could celebrate your birthday? Isn't that why your so glad to see them? Or could it be that you really want to see them regardless of what day it is? Whether it be today, tomorrow, yesterday,... or two months ago, like in Zanarkand."

Nat: Rikku froze with her mouth open and a fork full of hash browns just outside it. The bright eyes of the girl stared in a mortified look at the stoic woman at the other end of the table. Hours seemed to pass by, before Rikku put the fork down and pushed aside the nearly finished plate. She looked over at the bar to catch Barkeep's reaction to all of this and was relived to find him absent. Rikku turned back to the emotionless warrior to try and say something, but there were just no words. Paine finally broke the deafening silence.

Paine: "I'm not going to tell them, so relax. I'm just a little curious, that's all. I mean you just don't seem like the kind of girl who would enjoy watching others. Or is it because of 'him' that you get so aroused?"

Rikku: "It's way more complicated than that."

Paine: "It always is. But you do love him, yes?"

Rikku:......#Yeah.#

Nat: Her response to the last question was very quiet, just barely a whisper. Rikku, with a heavy sigh, picked up her cup and leaned back into her chair. Paine let Rikku stare blankly out into space for a moment, so the girl could reflect on how it was that she fell into this state. Then Paine pressed the issue.

Paine: "You know it does help to talk about such things. It wouldn't be the first time you mentioned this to me before, remember?"

Rikku: "True, but are you really all that curious about it?"

Paine: "I am when it bothers someone I know so bad. Especially someone with some well earned respect points."

Rikku:*Sigh* "...Okay. But don't say I didn't warn you. It all started......"

<Bikanel Desert - Al Bhed Home>

Rikku: "YOU ASSHOLE!!!"

Nat: Gippal stepped back, effortlessly avoiding a swing aimed for his good eye. He had expected the shorter Al Bhed girl to take shots at him and was glad he had warmed up first.

Gippal: "Look Rikku, are you really so shocked that it ended up like this?"

Rikku: "Yes! And your reason for leaving is idiotic too! So what if there's a woman on the team? There'll be two other guys there too. "

Gippal: "Yeah, but I think that the chance to get close to a mature woman for once will be good for me."

Nat: The agile young man was already blocking when Rikku tried to kick him for that last remark. A quick change in his balance and some fast moves put him behind her. With her caught off guard he quickly put her in a head lock and let the girl struggle for a few minutes. As she started to ware out, he began to bargain with her.

Gippal: "Look I ain't saying I won't come back to have some fun with you, but I need to get out of this dust bowl. You don't like the whole kidnapping idea ether, so you know why I want to get away from your old man."

Rikku: "Isn't it because he won't let you be in charge of anything?"

Gippal: "That too. But I really wanna hang with that babe most of all. Hey! You could come with me and maybe the three of us could pop that....Ouch!"

Rikku: "Like hell!"

Nat: Rikku's foot finally connected with Gippal's shin. At that moment, Rikku's friend Keyakku walked in.

Keyakku: "Hey Rikku have you seen...Yikes!"

Nat: The young Al Bhed was a bit shocked to find the two of them at each others throats. He quickly separated the two of them and tried to pacify the situation.

Keyakku: "Easy Rikku. Getting into a fight with Gippal always ends badly for you. Just let it go for now. Anyways have you seen Cid?"

Rikku: "No! And if I never have to see my Pops again I'd probably celebrate, but if I had to choose between seeing him and seeing Gippal....I might....just consider....thinking about seeing Pops! All the men here are thick headed pigs!...No offence Keyakku."

Gippal: "Yeah well, what with the way things are right now, with everyone doing something for ether Operation Mi'ihen or your father's 'Plan B' your going to have to deal with one or both of us. There's no way anyone is going to let little Rikku go off by herself."

Rikku: "Yeah right! Keyakku let's go to Luca before the Blitz Ball Tournament and check out the sights. What do say?"

Keyakku: "No can do. Your old man has me working twenty-four, seven trying to get some submersible machina up and running and just about everybody else is in the same boat....Well...except for maybe...Nah!"

Nat: Rikku's head perked up as she heard the remark. She looked at Keyakku for the rest, but he seemed reluctant to mention it.

Keyakku: "Your not gonna like it."

Rikku: "I'll take anything!"

Keyakku: "...It's your brother. He thinks he knows where to find some info on some airships, somewhere."

Rikku: "Brother!? How could he hope to find an airship? Nobody smart has been able to find a whole airship."

Gippal: "True, but your old man wants two things. First off, he wants your brother out of the way for awhile and second, if he could find an airship...well let's not hold our breath."

Rikku: "But anybody who could find an airship would gain uber respect from everybody! And they wouldn't have to put up with any crap from douchbags, like you."

Gippal: "I know you. There is know way you'll get on that ship with Brother."

Rikku: "Keyakku! Tell Brother I'm going with him!"

Keyakku: "Whoa Rikku! Let's think about this. If you go with Brother, you'll drive each other crazy. You'll practically want to hang yourself before too long!"

Gippal: "Yeah Rikku. So come along with me and get some pointers on how to be a real woman."

Rikku: "There is nothing....absolutely nothing, that will make me regret getting on that ship and away from this PIG!"

===One Week Later===

<S.S. Rusty Gear - Middle of the Ocean>

Rikku: "Buddy. Do me a favor. Kill me! I mean it! I want to die now!

Buddy: "Easy Rikku. Will find it."

Brother: "Yeah! It's got to be around here somewhere."

Nat: It had only taken a day and a half to get out to where the airship harbor, that Brother had supposedly found, was suppose to be. They soon discovered that Brother had not left a sonar buoy at the location. After searching for five days Rikku finally asked how Brother even knew where it was in the first place. This lead her to find that he had see it on a map, located in a temple in the middle of the ocean. After having knocked her brother upside the head for not going there in the first place, they turned their ship in that direction. However, Brother only had general coordinates for the place and they now found themselves searching for a temple, so the could search it for a map, so that they could search for an airship harbor that might have information about possible airship locations, so that they could then search there. Needless to say, Rikku was about ready to kill something, and her brother was looking more and more appealing by the minute.

Rikku: "Ya'know, Gippal may have been a pig, but at least I'd be exposed to other guys. Guys that are cute and young not old and stupid...like our current crew."

Buddy: "Hey! What about me?"

Rikku: "I thought you were smart until I found out you were friends with Brother. After that, I knew it was only a matter of time before he stupified you too. And look what happened! You honestly believed him when he said he found the place."

Buddy: "Well what does that say about...Hey! Is that it?"

Nat: A black mass slowly came into view out of the darkness. The gray overcast gave the old ruins a forbidding look, even after Brother turned on the ship's flood lights. The fact that the place looked like it might be infested with fiends didn't stop Rikku from being the first to disembark. The thought of getting off that ship and of blowing something up with a few grenades, gave the Al Bhed girl just the outlet she was looking for. Brother, on the other hand, had a different plan. The small group of Al Bhed workers behind him, clearly did not want to be anywhere near this place so when Brother announced his strategy, everyone but Rikku agreed.

Brother: "Okay! We find the map and we leave. If we see a fiend, we run from said fiend! Nobody here is tough enough to take on a fiend."

Rikku: "Maybe that's why none of you have girlfriends."

Worker 1: "Come on Rikku be nice."

Worker 2: "Yeah some of us do have wives."

Rikku: "Yeah and I'm sure they're glad your gone right now. I'm going this way Brother."

Brother: "What? Why? The map is this way, to the right."

Rikku: "There are no fiends that way. I know because if there were, you would have come home scared and not found anything."

Brother: "Rikku we are here to..."

Rikku: LOOK! I need to vent some serious frustration soon! The only way to deal with this frustration is to kill something! AND if it's not a fiend it will definitely be YOU!

Brother:"...Um...right...in that case then, take some of the guards with you."

Al Bhed Guard(AbG)1: "Sir! Permission to make the mission voluntary."

Buddy: "Why? The fiends here can't be too tough."

AbG 1: #It ain't fiends were scared of.#

Nat: After a quick request for volunteers, Rikku and four of the least intelligent of the guards went towards the center structure of the temple complex. Rikku only managed to kill a few Sahagins, that had popped out of the water, all of them dead with a single grenade. Rikku's annoyance with the situation got worse as the guards seemed to point at every shadow and yell "fiend!" Rikku was just about to give up and go back to the ship to pout when a loud roar echoed from the large pavilion. Rikku did not know the sound of every fiend, but she did know that sound. This was the roar of a Takouba. A blade type creature that was fast and occasionally a hard fight. For Rikku it was music to her ears. Upon reaching the doorway to the pavilion, two of the guards tried, without much success, to pry the open the door.

AbG 2: "Sorry Rikku it won't budge."

AbG 1: "Looks like you're going to have to let this one go."

Rikku: "Like hell I am! If something doesn't cooperate, you do what I do...you blow it up!"

AbG 4: "Um, Rikku is that really such a good idea? I mean what with the fact that this is an old building and that we don't know...Whoa!"

Rikku: "Duck and cover boys!"

Nat: Having premixed a potion and an L-bomb together, Rikku tossed the nasty concoction at the door as the other scattered. The Cluster bomb took the door right off it's hinges. As soon as the dust cleared Rikku and the others walked in to find a Takouba and an oddly dressed young man taking swings at each other. The boy stopped briefly to look in their direction. Rikku, who was not about to let some stranger steal her fun, ran up and punched the Takouba to get it angry at her.

Tidus: "You on my side? Cool!"

Nat: Rikku glanced over at the man. She quickly realized that he was not here to hunt fiends like she was. He had scratches all over his body and his lips were a little blue. It was clear this guy came from some sort of shipwreck. But what caught her attention most was that he was actually kind of cute. In fact the scratches actually gave him a tough guy look. Rikku would have kept analyzing him, but a shout and a quick move from the guy brought her back to reality.

Tidus: "Watch it!" *Clang*

Nat: Rikku looked forward to find a set of claws a few inches from her face, stopped only by a sword. Pissed that the fiend had tried to take a cheap shot, she pulled the pin on a grenade and tossed it at the beast's feet, as it jumped back. It exploded as the fiend jumped a second time and little damage was done. It was clear this was one fiend that had killed before and knew how to deal with fighters. This was not going to be easy. Before Rikku could grab another grenade, the Takouba lashed out again with fury, but again the young man was able to stop it from hurting her. The fiend did however add another scratch to the boys body. The boy, in turn, put a small gash in the fiends arm. It scurried back in pain. The Al Bhed girl, seeing a window, ran up, blocked one of its arms with her claw arm and kicked it in the face. She was amazed to find another foot in the fiend's face. Looking over she found the young man blocking the other arm with his sword. And then, as if it had been planned in advance, both of them shoved the fiend's arms aside and brought their weapons down on the creature's head. It stumbled around, momentarily stunned, which was perfect for Rikku, who pulled the pin on another grenade, but upon looking up from the explosive device she found the swordsman charging the Takouba. His stabbed right into the monster's mouth and pried it wide open. Looking back at Rikku, the boy gave out all the instructions to his plan in a single word.

Tidus: "GRENADE!"

Nat: A split second later the item was down the fiend's throat, and the two warriors were jumping aside. They both turned back just in time to see the accursed Takouba shatter in an impressive display of flame and pyreflies. Rikku let out a gasp of air, now that she was far less agitated.

Rikku: ~Yea, that was fun! Okay mark off "kill fiend" on my list of things to do. And now it's time I marked off "talk to cute boy toy!"~

Tidus: "Whew! That was close."

Rikku: ~Now commencing "Rikku scan!" Body: Muscular. Eyes: Blue. Face: Cute. Package: Covered by clothing. Overall: 8 at least. Not bad considering all the ones and zeros on the ship.~

Nat: Rikku was about to introduce herself and ask if he would like to be rescued by a cute girl, but was halted by one of the guards, as he pulled the boy up by his blond hair.

Tidus: "Hey, lemme go!"

AbG 1: "Fryd ec drec?" [What is this?]

AbG 2: "Y fiend! Eh risyh teckieca!" [A fiend! In human disguise!]

AbG 3: "Oac! Ed ec cu!" [Yes! It is so!]

AbG 4: "Fa gemm ed?" [We kill it?]

Rikku: ~Are they insane?!~ "Fyed! Fryd ev ed ec risyh?" [Wait! What if it is human?]

AbG 4: "Drao yna dra cysa eh taydr." [They are the same in death.]

Rikku: ~They are insane!~ "E vunpet ed! Fa pnehk ed fedr ic." [I forbid it! We bring it with us.] ~I am going to hate myself for doing this~

Nat: Rikku calmly walked up to the boy and got close to him. His surprise, at how close she was made him, caused him to freeze for a moment, which is exactly what Rikku wanted. She put her lips up to his ear and whispered.

Rikku: #Cunno#. [Sorry.]

Nat: And with that put her fist in his stomach.

Nat: Rikku stormed right to cabin as soon as she found out that Brother wouldn't allow the young man into the ship and had left him out on the cold work deck. She had barely managed to convince him to let the poor boy on the ship at all. The only thing that had gotten him on board was that she promised he would help out with the salvage operation. The girl was about ready to scream when a voice at the door brought her to her senses.

Buddy: "Hey Rikku. You okay in there?"

Rikku: "Fine! Just fine! That fiend only hurt one person, but hey, we don't give him medical attention to strangers in need, so no worries, Right?! I mean the only thing the guy did to get on this ship was keep me from getting clawed up! Who cares about that? And he..."

Buddy: "Hey, hey, hey, Rikku! Settle down now. I know your upset about his treatment, and if I were in charge it would be a little different. But I do agree that we shouldn't trust him yet. Even if he really is human who knows what he's really like. What if he's a rapist? Then you would be the first person trying to shove him overboard!"

Rikku: "But leaving him outside?!"

Buddy: "Look I'll talk with Brother, and once he helps out with the salvage, it'll be easier to convince him he's alright. In the mean time why don't you stay off your brother's radar for awhile, ya'know, let him cool down a bit. You really irritated him with that 'A guy that cute can't be a fiend' line."

Rikku: "Yeah, yeah, alright! Just try not to rock the boat okay."

Buddy: "Will do."

Nat: The sounds of Buddy's foot steps quickly faded and Rikku felt the empty presents of loneliness crowd the room. Feeling a little fatigued, she fell down on to her bed and looked up at the ceiling. Several minutes passed as she tried to close her eyes and sleep. Finally she began to contemplate Buddy's words.

Rikku: ~What if he's right? What if he can't be trusted? He could be a cast away from a shipwreck or he could be a fiend mimicking human form. And what if he's worst than that? What if he really is a rapist?~

Tidus: "Yeah! What if I was?"

Nat: Rikku shot up to a sitting position. The boy was now standing at the end of her bed shirt open and a strong set of biceps and abs showing.

Rikku: "How...how did...how did you get in the ship?!"

Tidus: "Your dumb friends left the door open. Not exactly a hard security measure to bypass now is it."

Rikku: "If you don't get out of here I'll scream! I mean it."

Tidus: "Go ahead and try. In fact, try walking out the door too."

Nat: Rikku opened here mouth, but only air came out. Even more shocking was that she could not kick her legs or swing her arms. She had suddenly been rendered completely defenseless.

Rikku: Wh...What did you do to me!

Tidus: "Nothing. I'm not doing anything. It's your own body that doesn't want to leave!"

Rikku: "Bullshit!"

Tidus: "It's true. Here let me prove it to you."

Nat: The young man slowly crawled up on to the bed. He worked his way towards Rikku. With the slightest push guided Rikku back down to the resting position and then leaned over top of her. He brought his lips closer to hers. Rikku commanded her head to move, but it remained perfectly still as their lips made contact. It was soft and warm, not like what Rikku expected a rapist's kiss to be like. In fact she never expected rapists to kiss at all. Suddenly she felt her arms begin to move, free from whatever strange force bound them.

Rikku: ~Alright! Now it's time to do something about this!~

Your body knew a childish man like Gippal would never be able to satisfy you. So, as soon as it saw me, it wanted me! I can sense that from you. Now then Rikku, what do you want? Do you really want me gone? Or is their something else you desire?"

Nat: The question burned in Rikku's mind. Would he actually leave if she said so? Was he right about her body? Will it be as hot and steamy as she'd always dreamed?

Brother: "Rikku we've arrived and it's time to start salvage operations!"

Buddy: "Yeah time to get wet."

Brother: "Good, maybe we can put that free loader to use."

Nat: Rikku sat there for a moment wondering what it was she had just gone through. She looked down at herself to see if she was visibly wet, but saw that the suit absorbed it before it got out. Deciding not to change, since she was going into the water anyway, she made her way to the top deck. On the way there she wondered even more.

Rikku: ~If I'm this hot for him now, how bad is it gonna get after I get to know him?!~

Nat: A question that would take a whole pilgrimage to answer.
