The Life of Erin Tribal
Chapter 21
That night, Erin had a dream of being in an unknown area. She looked around and saw massive tubes on a few walls. Inside of three of them were three little babies. Erin walked over to the only occupied tubes, examining the occupants.
Suddenly, footsteps were heard. Erin went and hid herself, completely unaware that nothing could see her. A man walked down the stairs and went over to the tubes. He looked at the contents, and then signaled to another thing in the room. Erin looked over at that thing, and noticed something unusual. Something she had seen before, somewhere.
That `thing' had a tail.
She gasped, but her attention soon turned back to the man. "I think they are ready to be taken out. We will have to wait many years before their able to be tested to their true strength. I lost one like them before to Kuja, I will not lose these three!" the man announced.
The other `thing' walked up to the first tube. He pressed a series of buttons, and the tube opened.
"The first one, a girl, of course. I shall name her Erin Marie Tribal, the healer," he declared.
"Yes sir, Mister Garland!" exclaimed another `thing' in the room, whom Erin noted also had a tail.
She was surprised at the name, however. `Could that be me?' she thought to herself.
The second thing soon returned with a necklace. The man they called Garland took it from him and placed it around the neck of the child.
A few minutes later, the first assistant, or Erin figured, pressed a series of buttons on the second tube. The tube opened as well.
"The second one, also a girl. This one shall be named Relm May Tribal, the black magic user," Garland declared.
The same thing happened as before. The second assistant made a similar tag and Garland placed it around the child's neck. By now, Erin was sweating, not knowing what was going to come out of the third tube. She got to her feet, and went over to the first two. She noticed that no one even acknowledged her.
She took the tag of this Erin Marie into her hand. She grabbed the necklace that she had around her neck and looked at them. "Exactly the same," she mumbled to herself, "Could this mean that this child, this thing, is me?"
Erin examined the child, completely unaware of the process happening yet again.
"Finally, the third one, a boy. He shall hereby be named Harry Lee Tribal, the fighter," Garland declared. The second assistant soon enough had a necklace made for this one as well, and this one was placed along with the other two.
Erin looked up, just as they were placing the child. She went back to examining this `Erin Tribal'. She saw a tail, one exactly like hers, only shorter. She gasped and she suddenly woke up.
Celes was looking over at Erin, wondering what was going on. Erin sat up in her bed and had to close her eyes to block out the sun. She shook her head. "What could all that mean? Could that thing, whatever it was, really be me?" she thought to herself.
"Erin, everyone was waiting for you. Let's go already!" Celes stated.
Celes walked out the door, letting Erin be alone. Erin walked over to a mirror that was in the room. She stared at her reflection for a bit, then uncovered her tail. She looked at it, shook her head, and hid it once again. She realized that she had fallen asleep fully dressed. She tightened her shirt, and walked out of the door, heading for the throne room.
Everyone else was in the throne room, starting to really get impatient with Erin. Finally, the doors opened, and in walked Erin. She walked up to where Edgar was sitting, noting that someone had finally found Gau and that he was sleeping in the corner of the room.
"Ok, I'll go down and talk to the engineer. We leave in 5 minutes!" Edgar stated, getting up from his seat and leaving the room.
Erin had no idea what was going on. That dream was still fresh in her mind. She remembered the look of the second one, how she looked exactly like herself, Erin, as a baby.
