chapter 10
It turns out Seifer was in one of Zell's classes he just didn't show up the day before. Now they were both there just seats away from each other. Zell was trying his hardest to pay attention and not stare at where Seifer sat. The day had gone surprisingly well for him and that Rob from the other day hadn't bothered him or Nida since but now Zell had new problems to worry about. He was thrilled to find out Seifer was in one of his classes but of all ones sex-ed. The last thing he needed to be hearing while his first real crush, sexiest thing to walk earth was sitting a seat away from him to his left on the diagonal.
Their instructor was rambling on about body parts Zell didn't even know he had and no matter how much he told himself to pay attention to that instead of the body parts a few feet away from him he couldn't help but stare.
'I'm never gonna get through this course alive. Why gods of all classes did he have to be in this one!? Stop staring Dincht before someone notices.'
He glanced away for a second but returned his gaze. 'Maybe today I could talk to him tell him my name and all. I mean its not like we don't have anything in common. I could talk about boxing, hey! maybe he saw the match I had last night........ or not why would he be interested in some amateur fight. Real nice self-esteem there Zell. Man I gotta stop talking to myself.'
When he'd managed to get out of his mental world he noticed Seifer had left his seat.
He quickly glanced around the room but he was nowhere insight in fact no one was there. When he turned forwards again the instructor was in his face. "I take it you liked today's lecture mister Dincht?" "Uh- I." "Class is over son you can go." She gave him a smile and he got up from his seat trying to hide the blush on his face, he waved goodbye and floored it from the room. When he made it to the safety of the hall he stood against the wall and breathed out.
"Real smooth, I wonder if anyone noticed my staring? Ah fuck." He pushed himself from the wall and ran for the front of the building. Not really seeing where he was going he ran into someone's back and fell backwards hitting the floor. "Shit."
The person he'd hit was standing over him now smirking down at him, Zell didn't know what to do but sit and stare in awe. "You know chicken if you keep slamming into me I'm gonna have to hurt you." Seifer laughed and helped him up.
"S-sorry." "I know you wanna get outta here as soon as possible, who doesn't, but you know running in the halls will get you in trouble." He crossed his arms over his chest still staring down at the smaller boy. "I know,"
'This is my chance to really talk to him and all I can manage is a stutter, breathe and go for it.'
"So uh a-are you busy later m-maybe we could work out together or something."
As soon as the last words came out Zell held his breath and waited. "I always work out alone but maybe sometime you'll run into me again and we'll do something." Seifer said, he turned to walk away but called over his shoulder. "Nice fight by the way, you did good." Zell wanted to say thanks but was too stunned that Seifer saw to even move.
He smiled slowly watching Seifer walk out the door. "Are you gonna stand there all day?" Squalll asked "Huh, where'd you come from?" "Can we go I don't wanna be in here any longer than I have to." Still not sure where Squall had come from Zell picked up his things and followed him to the car.
.........................................
"I'm so proud of you Zell, we all saw the fight last night you were wonderful."
"Thanks Ma, but it was just one I might not get so lucky next time." Zell sat at the kitchen table using the phone on the wall, talking to his Ma who he'd finally remembered to call that day.
"Now what did I tell you about that negative attitude? You'll do good in all your matches and win ya hear?" "Yes Ma." "Well the girls are here for bridge gotta go honey. That Leonhart better be treating you right, are you eating good, sleeping well, getting those check ups at the doctors?"
"Yes Ma, everything's fine." He tried to hide the annoyance in his voice long enough for his Ma to hang up. Even from a distance she smothered him and treated him like a baby.
"Oh alright then. Call me again soon sweetie, you be careful now. I love you."
Zell could feel himself getting embarrassed and turning red already. Squall was sitting at the couch with a newspaper watching him in amusement. Zell's Ma talked so loud he could hear her from where he sat.
Zell looked away from him and mumbled quietly into the phone. "LoveyoutooMa, bye." He quickly hung up and sighed. He looked back over at Squall who was trying not to smile. "Yeah like you've never said it before." He got up and went over to the couch to sit beside him. "So are we doing anything tonight?"
Squall stared at the wall thinking for a moment then shook his head. "Why you have plans?" He asked. "Not really I just wanna go watch a few matches tonight. Is that ok?"
"Fine, just-"
"Be careful I know. Geez you're worse than Ma." Zell threw his hands up and placed them behind his head.
"We just love our sweetie so much." Squall said and pinched Zell's cheek laughing through a smile. "Very funny." Zell smacked his hands away but couldn't help laugh a little too. Seeing Squall act out of character was a rare thing for him.
He stood up and headed for his room. "I'm gonna take a shower and thanks for the Linkin Park concert last night, it really helped me get to sleep." He said sarcastically, going into his room. Squall just shrugged and went back to reading the paper.
Zell got himself some clothes for the night and went into the bathroom. He turned the water on warm and started getting himself ready.
* * *
The hot water from the shower had created a fog in the bathroom as Seifer washed himself. He had a match that night and wanted to relax himself before getting ready for it. He ran his hands over his chest to rinse the soap off better. Then down farther to his thighs his hand paused before they lightly brushed over his dick. He let out a shaky sigh before moving his hand back up pulling it through his hair.
'Don't do it Almasy. What the hells is wrong with me? I don't even know if I'm happy anymore. Its always the same routine, I force myself through school come back and listen to Irvine's bitching about anything that comes to mind. If there's a match I take a shower and end up fucking myself over then go drive around angry at myself for doing it. What happens next another lecture from coach of the year about running off before the fight. Does he think I won't show up on time? some supporter.'
"Hey you gonna be in there forever or what?" Irvine's voice broke through his thoughts as he yelled through the door. 'That's new' He sighed and turned the water off. "Why am I talking to myself I'm not lonely am I?" He stepped out of the shower and grabbed his towel drying his face.
Then he stared at himself in the full length mirror on the door. "Pathetic, damn good looking but pathetic." He then wrapped the towel around his waist and reached for his clothes then opened the door. "Its all yours." He said going into this room.
"Bout time," Irvine walked into the bathroom and tripped over the dirty clothes left on the floor. "Do you have to leave these here and why do you insist on using all the fucking hot water on the planet? Sometimes I swear that boy ain't right in the head." He mumbled the last part to himself then shut the door.
Seifer slid into his pants then sat down heavily on the bed putting his face in his hands. After staying that way awhile he reached under the mattress and pulled out a bag with the same white powder from before.
"I don't care what Kinneas or the fucking boxing league say." "What was that?" Irvine said suddenly appearing in the doorway. Seifer looked to the door surprised and Irvine didn't look too happy.
"What is that?" Irvine said his voice was very low and serious, he was staring at the little bag Seifer was holding up. Seifer stood up and angrily grabbed the rest of his clothes and started putting them on. "I don't have time for this." He said sitting on the bed again and started putting his shoes on.
"You're damn sure gonna make time. I told you to quit that stupid shit and-" "And what you expect me to obey your every fucking command? Don't think so." Seifer stood and made his way to the door but Irvine wouldn't move.
"Get out of the way!" "Give me the bag Seifer." Irvine said keeping his voice surprisingly calm. "Move, you're not in charge of me." When Irvine didn't give in Seifer pushed past him shoving Irvine against the door. Seifer rushed to the front door but Irvine ran after him and caught his arm.
"I need this Irvine, let me go." "What the hells do you need it for?" Irvine held Seifer's arm as tight as he could and stared him in the eyes.
"Y- you don't understand," "Then tell me." Seifer looked away from him trying to think of what to do. "Give me the bag Seifer." Irvine said he was so angry his accent seemed to have faded away. Seifer didn't know what else to do so he yanked his arm away from Irvine and left slamming the door behind him.
Irvine opened the door and yelled down the hall to him. "Where are you going.........damnit Seifer if you blow this match tonight." "I'll be there as usual with fucking bells on." Seifer yelled back getting into the elevator. Irvine watched the door close and Seifer was gone. "Shit." He pulled his hat off and ran his free hand roughly through his bangs then went to the elevator himself.
Seifer went into the parking garage and jumped on his motorcycle and started it up. Before he took off he pulled the bag out of his pocket and opened it taking a big sniff of the powder. "Fuck." He yelled his voice echoing off the walls. He ripped the bag in half and the cocaine powder spilled everywhere, he dropped the bag to the ground and speed off.

Squall opened the apartment door quickly after hearing the urgent pounding. "What?" He said and Irvine stormed inside throwing his hat on the couch, then angrily pulling his coat off he throws that beside it. All the while he was swearing to himself, then he started kicking at the coffee table and throwing the couches pillows on the floor.
When he finally stopped and calmed down he looked over by the door where Squall was still standing and watching him. Irvine shook his head as some kind of apology and walked over to Squall kissing him deeply for a minute.
"I'm sorry darlin I- I didn't mean to do that its just that damn-" Squall was walking Irvine towards the arm chair picking up the pillows as he went.
When Irvine was seated he sat on the coffee table in front of him. "What happened?" "Seifer happened, stupid fuckin' kid. I tried to show him a little compassion and what does he do? I tell ya I don't know why I got into this business in the first place." He put his head down on the arm of the chair and huffed out a breath.
"What am I gonna do Squall?" He whined into the chairs arm. "First your gonna sit up so I can I hear you clearly and tell me what the problem is so I understand it." Irvine groaned but lifted his head enough so his voice wouldn't be muffled.
"The boys doin' drugs Squall. Not your simple smokes and drinks, gods only know what else he has stashed in that room. I never know where he goes when I'm not around and I can't ever go after him unless I take a cab,"
Zell was about to come out of his room until he heard Irvine's voice and stopped to listen.
"He never really talks to me, not about anything serious anyway. His attitude just gets worse everyday, he's been constantly reminded to keep his grades up and doesn't seem to get why. Do you know what'll happen if he gets kicked out of school, or gets caught doin' that fucking shit? Then he's out of the league and I'm out of a job."
"Where is he now?" Squall asked, Zell recognized Irvine's voice from before when they met in the hall way.
'That's Seifer's coach, I wonder what's going on?' He sat on the floor between his doorway and turned himself slightly to look into the living room. He saw Squall's back sitting on the table and Irvine in front of him.
"He ran out just a while ago because I caught him with it. I've told him before to knock it off but the boy doesn't listen. He has a match tonight and I swear if- if he doesn't show up I'll lose it." Irvine sat up in the chair and pulled his bangs back, Squall reached forwards and took one of his hands holding it on his leg.
"Did he say anything to you at all?" Squall asked.
"No nothing I understood, wait that's what he said, I don't understand. Ha! understand what that he's a fucking crack head. This match is being broadcast live Squall everywhere. Do you know what it'll look like for me if he doesn't show. There goes my reputation, he never thinks about me." Suddenly Squall drops Irvine's hand and stands up. Irvine confused looks up at him.
"You know Irvine maybe if you'd stop thinking about yourself and your fucking image for one minute you would understand things. Its been years now and you're still doing it you never learn. Now you come to me like you've got a problem when its really him with the problem. It can't always be about you Irvine."
When Zell heard Squall start yelling he quietly stood up and went back into his room closing the door.
"Wait a minute what are you talking about?" "Damnit Irvine, you're still gonna play stupid aren't you. This guy- Seifer ran away from you because he has a problem and obviously knows you don't really wanna hear about it because you're too obsessed with yourself. Do you wanna know why we broke up years ago, because I started those rumors about you sleeping with your students!" Squall said and turned around away from Irvine.
"You? I don't get it, why?" Irvine stood to stand behind him but not too close, Squall ran his hand through his hair and sighed.
"Because, because I wanted you to quit. You got so obsessed with yourself and your "image" you completely ignored the fact that we were together. I tried to put up with it, I tried for years but it wasn't working. So I started getting absorbed in my own work to ignore the problem. Then you ended it because of that. I guess I brought it on myself though." Squall sat on the table again and Irvine was still behind him, staring at the back of his head in shock.
"Squall I-" "Don't say anything just go ok." Irvine wasn't sure what to do but he didn't want to leave. He moved closer to Squall but backed off when he yelled again. "I said go! I'm sorry Irvine just- I hope he shows up tonight." Squall said quieter this time.
Irvine grabbed his things and walked to the door. "Yeah me too, see ya around." He left closing the door loudly behind him.
"Damnit." Squall slammed his hands on the table and went into his room slamming the door.
Zell jumped from the sudden noise sitting against his own door on the floor. He got up and went out to talk to Squall but when he heard loud music playing he decided to back off.
"This isn't good." He looked at the clock and there was only half an hour left before the nights matches started and he figured he'd go and wait there to see if Seifer would show up. He went to the kitchen and wrote a note for Squall leaving it on the table and left the apartment.
