Chapter 4: A Somewhat Odd Start…
The next morning as the guests were woken by Kagome's servants, Kagome herself was in her room looking out the window with her eyebrows pulled down in a slight frown. There was something wrong in the air she could feel it. Something was going to happen today.
~*~Kagome's Pov
I sighed as I turned away from the window and looked at my bed where Shinya lay curled into a ball. His hair was spread across my pillows like a blanket of hair, his eyes were closed and his face completely lax. His pants were wrinkled from sleep and his hands were tucked under his chin as he lay on his side. He was adorable. I chuckled at the stray thought.
It was a normal occurrence for him to spend the night in my bed; it's nothing sexual it's just the fact that he feels more comfortable with me. Though I do care about him, I'm not exactly sure what I feel for him but he's been with me for almost 2 years now and he's somehow wormed his way deep into my heart.
I saw his eyes flutter to reveal unfocused Red-orange eyes. His scarlet colored eyes settled on my face as he stretched lazily and yawned in a wide cat-like motion. He blinked sleepily and smiled at me. I crawled onto the bed and laid a kiss on the crown of his head and told him to get ready for breakfast.
I walked into my bathroom and quickly stripped out of my baggy pajama pants and sports bra that was my customary sleep wear. I set the water in the shower and hopped in. I thought about Tohru's companions, the family that she is staying with. Something about a few of them unnerves me for some odd reason. They are hiding something from me. I don't like not knowing something it makes me…feel inadequate.
As I stepped out of the shower I grabbed the fluffy black towel that I had previously laid out and dried off. I wrapped that towel around myself and grabbed the other towel for my hair. As I stepped out of the bathroom I saw Saito sitting on my bed waiting for me. I raised an eyebrow and inquired what he wanted.
~*~End of Kagome's Pov
Saito flushed when he saw Kagome come out of the bathroom clad in nothing but a towel. The flush giving him a boyish-charm. Kagome found it simply cute. She gave him a peck on the cheek and asked, "Is there something that you need Saito?"
"Uh…You're guest are making their way to the dinning hall for breakfast. Shall we wait for you?" he asked.
"No, that's quite alright. I will be down shortly; we should not keep the guests waiting." She replied with an amused tone, while keeping her face carefully blank, as always.
Saito nodded his black hair falling into his eyes; Kagome instinctually brushed the rebellious locks away from his face before turning away and proceeding to get ready. Taking that as a sign of dismissal he left the room, not that he had to, it was her house though so it was only right he listen to her…Not that he did most of the time but there were guests over…
Kagome pulled on her underwear which consisted of black satin panties and a matching sports bra. Over her sports bra she put on a tank-top that cut off just below her breasts. She put on matching black cargo pants; she added a black jacket to hide her weapons. The weapons that she had on her were her two knives in there wrist sheaths and a long blade in its spine sheath the hilt of the blade hidden in her hair which she put in a long thick braid. She also had a blade hidden in her hair. In her cargo pants there were other various…goodies. Around her neck she put on a silver chain with a small pendant of a neko on it. It was a gift from Shinya. She put no shoes on.
With that she deemed herself ready and left her room silently gliding down the hall towards the dinning hall downstairs. As she rounded the last corner and through the door to the dinning hall she already had her barriers erected. As she walked into the dinning hall the hall instantly fell silent. Kagome raised an eyebrow at there antics before gesturing for them to continue with whatever they were doing.
Kagome took her spot at the head of the table with Sesshoumaru at her right and Shinya at her left. She calmly ate breakfast but it was clear to everyone else that her mind was somewhere else thinking of something else. It was as if she wasn't really there. She was thinking about her past and what made her do some of the things that she did. You see she isn't human, but she isn't a full breed vampire. She's in a class by itself, but how she got to be that way was painful and terrible.
Kagome was snapped out of her thoughts when a soft feminine voice asked her a question. She turned to the perpetrator…Tohru.
"I'm sorry, what was that Tohru?" Kagome apologized.
"How did you afford this place?" Tohru asked tilting her head to the side her warm chocolate eyes questioning and curious.
"I do not have a certain income that I can tell you but lets just say with how much I do…I am pretty much set for…forever…really but that doesn't matter. Money is so very trivial." Kagome said, "Money lacks significance to me. There will always be more out there."
Kagome shrugged nonchalantly as her eyes remained aloof.
"Oh…I see…" Tohru said even though she didn't quite understand, "I thought money was important?" She said more to herself.
"To some people money is important, but like I stated before not to me." Kagome said.
Kagome suddenly turned as her ears picked up the sound of Bankotsu humming under his breath as he walked down the hall. `Shit.' Kagome thought, `I forgot to tell Ban and the others that we have guests…he is not going to be happy about this.'
With that Bankotsu pranced into the room wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and the braid down his back. He froze. His dark eyes scanning the people and glaring at them. He then turned and faced Kagome, she cringed slightly barely noticeable.
"Kagome, darling, did you forget to tell me we had guests?" Bankotsu said huskily.
Kagome sweated a bit and narrowed her eyes warily. The `guests' watched all of this with fascination.
"Maybe?" she made it a question.
"Oh, snookums, how could you forget to tell me something so IMPORTANT?" he said emphasizing snookums and important. Kagome cringed visibly this time at the nickname snookums.
Kagome shot a glare at Bankotsu growling slightly.
"It simply slipped my mind…I was preoccupied last night and I completely forgot about telling you." Kagome said regaining her calm and looking at Bankotsu with emotionless eyes.
"M-Hm…I'm sure that's the case." Ban said, "Jak isn't going to be anywhere near as calm as me." Kagome stilled.
`Uh-Oh…' Kagome thought to herself as the door burst open revealing Jakotsu.
Jakotsu was wearing a white wife beater and black shorts. His shoulder length locks pulled into a ponytail and his brown eyes startled when he saw all of the odd people that he didn't know. He did the only thing that he could think of, the only thing that would bring Kagome to him. He wailed.
"Oh no!!! `Gome's house is being invaded by aliens from mars, cute aliens, but aliens none the less!! They have eaten her, or no!! Maybe Kagome's trying to escape from rabid toad demons like Jaken trying to have her as a mate. My poor, poor `Gome!!! Where is my `Gome!?" Jak wailed much too several people's displeasure, including the guests who did not like being referred to as aliens.
Kagome stood from her seat and was at Jak's side in an instant worried about him. She gently held his shaking form in her arms as she sighed softly and glared at the chuckling Bankotsu over Jakotsu's head. She cooed gently and stroked his hair. He nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck as he whimpered.
"Shh…Don't worry Jak, I'm right here…I'm fine." Kagome said trying to calm the handsome mans worries.
Jakotsu sniffled and said, "You're not being attacked by rabid frog demons like Jaken who want you as a mate? You're house isn't being invaded by aliens that look like cute humans but really are horribly ugly things?" He asked.
Kagome sweatdropped.
"No I'm perfectly fine, I simply forgot…to tell you that we had guests over…" Kagome said trailing off.
"Oh…Okay then! Let's eat."
The Sohma's and Spirit Detectives fell to the floor anime style.
Jakotsu raised a curious eyebrow at them. Kagome shrugged.
"Are you sure there not really aliens that all seemed planned to me." Jak whispered into kagome's sensitive ear as she shivered. Hey she was a woman and women had needs to.
"I am pretty sure most of them are not aliens but some of them I am not so sure about." Kagome whispered back huskily into his ear as he shuddered. Kagome smirked in satisfaction that she had the same affect on him as he on her.
Bankotsu, Sesshoumaru, Shizen, Kashaku, Shinya, Saito, Kazero and Hitaru all watched this with slightly amused expressions. They were used to the playful flirting. Kagome was very good at that, but cautious as to not let it get out of hand. She did not wish for her heart to be manhandled as it had been once before. She absolutely refused it.
The Reikai Tantei and the Sohma's as well as Tohru were quite surprised by this, they had not expected Kagome to be the teasing or flirting type depending on what way you were looking at it. But behind the mask of Kagome's playful banter and careful blankness was a lost and lonely girl, a girl that had never had a chance to truly live, a girl whose life ended before it had even begun.
An aching soul that guarded itself fiercely. A soul that had been lost and broken long ago by a few horrible tragedies that only came to follow through with more of them. She hid it from all of those she considered friends. She did not to need, nor want to be pitied. No one new of the endless pit of rage, sorrow and pain that consumed her.
No one ever saw inside her carefully guarded heart and mind, soul and body to the broken woman inside. Therefore no one ever knew the truth and she intended to keep it that way…Some secrets were best kept secrets…The Secrets of the Broken of the Forgotten.
A/n: I know this chapter is excessively shorter then my other chapters. I promise the next chapter will be longer. I just got out of the hospital today which is why I didn't finish as early as I wished. I had an Asthma Attack while in school and well it took me a while to recover. The next chapter should be up around tomorrow if I'm lucky!! Thank you to all of you reviewers! You made my day!
