Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ East Side, West Side ❯ The Breakfast Club ( Chapter 11 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Wow, eleven chapters already. So here’s another one, explaining a bit more about the Okurimono family. This will explain a little more about their illnesses and such. So here we go, chapter eleven.
----
They had crashed out in the living room the night before. By the time Kasumi had woken up, everyone else was asleep. Except for one person missing...Kippei. She got up and looked around for him, but she couldn’t find him. Then she heard the sound of a gate rattling, like something had hit it, from the backyard. She walked out the back door, finding Kippei kicking the soccer ball back and forth across the yard.
Kippei stopped as he noticed Kasumi standing on the porch. He kicked the soccer ball over to the fence once more and walked over to Kasumi. “Morning.” He greeted.
“Hey.” Kasumi smiled lightly. “You’re up early.”
“Yeah, I couldn’t fall back asleep.” Kippei shrugged.
“I didn’t know you played soccer.” Kasumi looked to the soccer ball by the fence.
“It gives me something to do.” Kippei looked around the large yard. “You, do you play any sports?”
“Track. Star of my school’s track team.” Kasumi smiled.
“Where do you go to school?” He asked.
“Sophronia’s Boarding School for Girls.” She replied. “In California.”
“Oh, that’s right, you’re only visiting Kyou.” Kippei remembered.
“Yeah.” Kasumi nodded.
“Hey...wanna play that truth game that we were playing last night at the restaurant?” Kippei looked at her, sitting down on the porch.
“Uh, sure.” Kasumi sat down next to him.
“I’ll go first.” Kippei sighed. He looked at the ground, taking in a breath. “Kokoro...has abandonment issues.”
“Abandonment issues?” Kasumi blinked.
“She thinks our parents abandoned us. See...they didn’t even tell us that we were going to live with Sachiko. That day...Kokoro had gotten in trouble at school for punching some kid. They held her in the office until our parents could go to pick her up. While they weren’t watching, she ran out of the office and to the field nearby. When my parents arrived, my dad went after her. He finally caught her and gave her a sort of farewell hug, but she didn’t know it meant farewell...” Kippei explained.
“Didn’t she transform?” Kasumi tilted her head.
“That’s the strange thing. See, there’s a day in every cursed member’s life that they don’t transform. The downside is that we don’t know which day it is so it could be any day. That day seemed to be Kokoro’s, probably because that would be the only hug she ever got from her father.”
“I see.”
“Ever since then...that’s when Kokoro’s been getting schizophrenic little by little.”
“That’s tough.”
“It is...and...remember that day when we first went to Shigure’s house? When Kokoro and I said something about the day Ariel graduates from high school?”
“Yeah, what about it?”
“It’s because...Sachiko isn’t the true leader of this family. Though she is the oldest, she’s not the leader. It’s only temporary until Ariel graduates. Because...Ariel’s the true leader.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah. And some of us fear that day.”
“Why?”
“For Leo’s sake. See, Ariel has this inferiority complex with Leo. When Okurimono children are born with a curse, depending on how many cursed children there will be in a family, the child will be born either one or two months premature. Therefore acting like a sort of fortune teller.”
“Uh huh...”
“Leo was born one month premature, and although his mother adored him, she didn’t want another cursed child. She did everything she could to keep another baby from being born but...Ariel came anyway. Helena, their mother, neglected her. Ariel hated Leo because she believed not only did they share the same curse, but she was the true leader of the entire family and yet Helena still adored Leo and hated her.”
“So you’re all afraid that when she becomes the true leader she’ll give Leo what she thinks he deserves when he really didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Exactly.”
“Wow. What else haven’t you told me?”
“Takeru’s abusive step-parents. Jon’s little sister Katarina. Hinako’s twin actually being Sachiko’s daughter.”
“Woah, wait right there. What was that last one?”
“Hinako’s twin actually being Sachiko’s daughter?”
“How is Kiriko Sachiko’s daughter if Hinako’s not?”
“Long story short, Sachiko had a baby at the age of fifteen but an embrace from her husband made her a ‘virgin’ again, therefore making Kiriko never exist. A few months later Hinako was born under the sign of Gemini with Kiriko mysteriously being her twin.”
“Wait, Sachiko’s married?”
“Divorced. Her husband’s memory was erased after he threatened to expose our family secret out of rage from Kiriko disappearing.”
“And Sachiko’s okay with Kiriko being alive again even if she’s not her biological daughter anymore?”
“Sachiko doesn’t know.”
“Wait, what?”
“Sachiko had never seen Hinako transform until one day at the supermarket. Hinako bumped into a boy and Kiriko came out. Leo took them to Sachiko and Mizuko. Sachiko was still silently grieving the disappearance of her child so when she saw Kiriko, she practically went mad. Ryu had to take Hinako and Kiriko while Leo and Mizuko held Sachiko back. Mizuko did the hardest thing she ever had to do...and erased Kiriko from Sachiko’s memories.”
“Damn, that sucks.”
“You would think, right?” Kokoro asked from the doorway.
“You’re up already?” Kippei looked at Kokoro.
“I heard you guys talking.” Kokoro said. She looked to Kasumi. “As for Takeru’s abusive step parents. His real parents died in a fire and he was entrusted to their closest friends that knew of the curse. They pretended to love him, but they hated him. There wasn’t a day that went by that he wasn’t beaten.”
Kasumi’s eyes went wide.
“Mizuko’s working on adopting him and filing a lawsuit against them for child abuse.” Kokoro explained.
“And Katarina is Jon’s younger sister who believes Jon hates her because he left her to go live with Sachiko and us. She doesn’t speak to him anymore, causing Jon to go into some state of depression. Which, as it says in the book you saw last night, is one of his malfunctions.” Kippei stated.
“And I thought the Sohma family was dysfunctional.” Kasumi sighed.
“Yeah well...come on inside already. Tor and I made breakfast already.” Kokoro walked back inside.
“She cooks?” Kasumi tilted her head.
“I don’t know.” Kippei shrugged. He stood up. “Let’s go see.”
“Okay.” Kasumi nodded.
Kippei offered took Kasumi hand and helped her up from the porch.
“Kyou, wait until Kasumi and Kippei get in!” Kokoro snapped as Kyou started to pick at his food.
“So Kokoro, are you feeling any better this morning?” Tohru smiled at Kokoro.
“I feel much better. Thank you, Tohru.” Kokoro smiled back.
Kyou took that moment to snatch a piece of bacon from the plate on the table.
“Stupid cat.” Yuki sighed, still half-asleep.
“Alright! Food!” Kippei exclaimed as he saw the wide variety of food set out on the table. “You and Torrence should make breakfast more often, Kokoro!” He sat down at the table.
“I’m glad you think so.” Kokoro smiled.
“Where’s everyone else?” Kasumi looked around as she sat next to Kyou.
“Still asleep.” Torrence sighed. “But the early bird gets the worm. Dig in.”
“I think Kyou’s done enough digging in to find the lost city of Zanbar.” Kokoro looked at Kyou scarfing down his food. “Do you like my food, Kyou?”
“It’s not half bad.” Kyou shrugged.
“I fear I’m going to lose my appetite.” Yuki looked at Kyou with a disgusted face.
“Who made the french toast?” Kasumi asked, taking a bite out of a piece of french toast.
“The Americans, really. The French had nothing to do with it.” Kokoro answered.
“I mean who made this french toast.” Kasumi laughed lightly.
“I did.” Kokoro smiled lightly. “Now that I think of it...Tor, what did you contribute to this meal?”
“The regular toast, the beverages, the fruit...” Torrence half sighed. “It wasn’t my fault. I didn’t wake up until I smelled the sizzling of the bacon that Kyou’s eating as if it were going out of style.”
Kyou stopped at the mention of his name and slightly glared at Torrence.
“What is it, Kyou?” Torrence crossed her arms. “Did I insult you?”
“Don’t mess with the Taurus Bull, Kyou. Trust me, you’ll get the horns.” Kokoro laughed, nudging Torrence in the arm.
Torrence laughed lightly.
The others were just glad to have Kokoro back to her old self.
“Yuki, Tohru, eat. Eat like it’s an eating contest or something. Hell, eat like Kyou.” Kokoro joked.
“Will you shut it?!” Kyou yelled.
“You know we love ya, Kitty cat.” Kokoro smiled.
Kyou glared at her for a moment but softened up a bit. He had to admit, it was better having the annoying, crazy, but still fun Kokoro around rather than the depressed, easily angered, yelling Kokoro.
“I’d rather not.” Yuki shook his head. He got a waffle off the plate in the center of the table and putting it on his own.
“Wow, Kokoro, your cooking is good.” Tohru commented.
“Thank you, Tohru.” Kokoro smiled. “I wanna try some of yours sometime.”
“Miss Honda’s cooking is the best.” Yuki said, taking a bite of the waffle.
“Aw, Yuki, are you saying mine compares nothing to Tohru’s?” Kokoro pouted.
“Don’t get me wrong, Kokoro, it’s good.” Yuki smiled lightly.
“Yay.” Kokoro smiled. “I’m glad you all approve.”
“I say M–...” Kippei started but stopped after Kokoro looked at him. “M–izuko taught you a few things, right?”
“Yeah.” Kokoro admitted.
Kippei sighed in relief to see that Kokoro’s smile hadn’t faltered in any way.
“Well, I’m done.” Torrence stood up, getting her dishes. “Kokoro, do you want me to do the dishes? It’s only fair. You cooked, I’ll clean.”
“If you want to.” Kokoro shrugged.
“I’ll do them. Just put them in the sink when you’re all done and I’ll get to them.” Torrence smiled.
“Thanks, Tor.” Kokoro nodded.
“No problem.” Torrence walked into the kitchen.
“What’s this, Kyou? You slowed down? Wow.” Kokoro joked.
“Yeah well your food’s not worth getting sick over.” Kyou growled, though he didn’t really mean it.
Kokoro smiled. “I’m glad you like it.” She knew he didn’t mean it. She got up and got her dishes together. “Please, eat until you’re full. If the others wake up hungry, I can just make more.”
“My pleasure.” Kippei said, chewing his food.
“Don’t talk with your mouth full.” Kokoro lightly pushed his head to the side. “I’ll be in my room.” She walked out.
“Do her and Torrence always get along that well?” Kasumi asked.
“Well they have to get used to each other. They share the same room in both houses.” Kippei chewed. “But they only get along that good after Kokoro’s had a ‘schizo attack’, as Torrence calls it. Being nicer to Kokoro cheers her up a bit so it helps.”
“Oh...” Kasumi took a sip of her apple juice.

And there’s chapter eleven. Yup. That’s it. Wow. See...Kokoro and Kippei are gonna spend a lot of time with Kyou, Kasumi, Yuki, and Tohru. Mostly with Kyou and Kasumi. Because Kippei and Kasumi develop a crush on each other and Kokoro thinks she develops a crush on Kyou. I’m still debating whether or not I wanna make them a couple. And in answer question I forgot to answer from one of the older reviews...Sachiko is actually 28. I think. Or was it 27? -Looks at Okurimono chart-mabob.- Yeah, 28. Stay tuned!
