Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ East Side, West Side ❯ The Term's "Bond" ( Chapter 12 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Okay, okay, I admit, I’ve been procrastinating to write my fic lately. Why? Because it’s summer and I wanna be lazy! I love my fic to death and all but I’m the kind of kid who lazes around all summer, watching tv and eating ice cream! Okay, so I won’t procrastinate any longer. Here’s chapter twelve.

“Finally home? I thought you four would decide to stay another night.” Shigure smiled as the four entered the house.
“You mean we could’ve?” Kasumi kidded.
“No.” Kyou growled.
“What’s wrong with you, Kyou?” Shigure asked.
“He’s just angry because he was the joke of the breakfast table this morning.” Yuki sighed.
“Joke of the breakfast table? What happened?” Shigure looked to Yuki.
“Long story short, Kokoro made breakfast and Kyou was eating like he hadn’t eaten in days.” Kasumi giggled.
“It’s not funny!” Kyou yelled.
“Yeah it is, Kitty kitty.” Kasumi laughed.
“No it’s not!” Kyou glared at her.
“He’s right.” Yuki said. “It was more gruesome than funny.”
“Nobody asked you!”
“You don’t have to be mean about it, Kyou. You know we were just joking around.” Kasumi pouted.
“This is all your fault!” Kyou yelled at Kasumi.
“How is it my fault?” Kasumi blinked.
“You’re the one that made us stay over there! And if it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t know them in the first place!”
Kasumi blinked again, trying to remain calm. She wasn’t going to yell. She couldn’t yell. Not at Kyou, at least. She took in a breath and sighed lightly. “Okay...it’s my fault.” She nodded. “I’ll be in my room.” She quickly fled to her room.
“Kyou, did you really have to yell at her like that?” Tohru asked. “She just wanted to stay over there to help Kokoro.”
“You didn’t have to make her feel bad, you idiot.” Yuki slightly glared.
“You should apologize, Kyou. She was only trying to have a little fun.” Shigure said.
“Forget it!” Kyou went outside.
A couple hours later, Kasumi peeked out of her room. She looked around for any signs of Kyou and sighed. She crept out of her room quietly and walked to Shigure’s office. “Shigure?” She called as she found him in there.
Shigure looked up from his desk. “What is it, Kasumi?”
“Where’s Kyou?” She asked quietly.
“I imagine he’s probably up on the roof.” Shigure said.
“Oh.” Kasumi nodded.
“Kasumi, don’t let whatever Kyou has said get to you. I told you, he’s not very good at controlling his emotions.” Shigure explained.
“I know.” Kasumi sighed.
“I should’ve warned you before you came that he probably wouldn’t be as you remembered him from when you were a child.”
“It’s okay. Everyone warned me about it.”
“Everyone?”
“Dawn, Anita, everyone back there. They told me not to be disappointed if Kyou wasn’t like he used to be when we were kids.”
“And...?”
“I’m not. I’m just...not used to being yelled at, really.”
“Why don’t you go talk to him?”
“Huh?”
“Go on. Go do some brother-sister bonding. Who knows when you’ll ever get to.”
“I don’t know...”
“You only have a few more weeks left here. After that, who knows how long it’ll be before you see him again.”
Kasumi sighed. “I guess you’re right. On the roof, right?”
“I believe so.” Shigure nodded.
“Thanks, Shigure.” Kasumi smiled lightly and left.
Maybe I shouldn’t have yelled at her like that...Kyou thought, laying on the roof.
“Kyou?” Kasumi sat down next to him.
“What the-? How’d you get up here?” Kyou arched an eyebrow.
“I jumped.” Kasumi smiled lightly.
“Oh.” Kyou sighed.
Kasumi looked around. “Nice view...”
“It’s alright.” Kyou shrugged.
Kasumi nodded. She lightly bit her lip and looked at Kyou. “Hey Kyou?”
“What?” Kyou asked.
“Do you still mean what you said the first day I was here?”
Kyou sighed heavily. “No.”
Kasumi smiled.
“I’m sorry I yelled at you, okay? It’s just...I dunno. It was so annoying! Especially Kokoro and her stupid jokes...”
“But wasn’t it better than having her all depressed and sad?”
“I guess.”
“You wanna know something?”
“What?”
“You know if you keep going east from here, you’ll be in America. California, to be exact. And in California, if you keep going west, you’d be here.”
“What’s your point?”
“My boarding school’s in California. Right near the shoreline. When I first went there, you know...when I didn’t want to be there, I would go to the beach everyday and look out to the ocean. I’d always think, ‘You know, maybe if I swim fast and far enough, I’ll be home again.’” Kasumi laughed. “Pretty silly, huh?”
“Why would you want to come back?” Kyou asked.
“To be with my Kyou-oniichan, of course!” Kasumi smiled.
Kyou blinked in surprise.
Kasumi looked to her feet. “I haven’t called you that since I first left, huh? After that it was always ‘Kitty kitty’.”
“Yeah...” Kyou said.
“Remember when they took me?” Kasumi asked.
“Hm?” Kyou looked to her.
“That day...I was about five, right? When they first separated us?”
“What about it?”
“I screamed bloody murder that day, begging you not to let them take me away.” Kasumi laughed lightly.
“Oh...yeah...”
“You can’t imagine how angry I was the whole way. I wouldn’t do anything for the first few weeks. Then they told me that if I did good enough in school, I’d get to see you again. So I did. I worked my hardest for three years and then they finally let me visit.”
“For a few weeks.”
“Yeah, and then I had to work hard again for another seven years. It’s kinda unfair, isn’t it?”
“Yeah.”
There was silence for a while.
“So...how long are you staying again?” Kyou broke the silence.
“Maybe until the end of the month. I’m not completely sure yet.” Kasumi laid back with her arms underneath her head.
“End of the month? That’s next week.” Kyou sat up, looking at her.
“Yeah, so?” Kasumi blinked.
“I thought you said you were staying two months. It’s only been one.”
Kasumi couldn’t help but smile. “What is this, Kitty kitty? You actually want me to stay here for the full two months?”
“That’s not what I meant, it’s just–...” Kyou started.
Kasumi laughed lightly. She sighed as she stared up at the sky. “I wish I could but...I have school. The whole two month thing was just to see your reaction. After I get back I’ll have to go back to working my ass off to see you again.”
“Oh..” Kyou sighed lightly.
“Well, I told Tohru I’d help her with dinner. Actually, I’ll prolly just watch unless she needs me to do something.” Kasumi stood up. “See ya at dinner.” She walked to the edge of the roof, ready to jump off.
“Hey,” Kyou called.
Kasumi looked back at him.
“For what it’s worth...I’ll miss you.” Kyou slightly looked away.
Kasumi smiled and walked back over. She tightly hugged Kyou and, before he could say anything, quickly kissed his cheek and ran. She jumped off the roof, barely landing on her feet. She stumbled a bit and ran inside.

X3 Awww, cute. I liked this chapter. Now you got to find out a little about Kasumi. So that twist I mentioned a bit before I’ve decided to make it into a different fic. Hopefully I can write is as good as I’ve been writing this one. Keep reading!
