[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
So here’s chapter thirteen. Sad to say, this fic is almost at it’s end. I just wanna say that it was a fun fanfic to write and I’ll love this one forever. Anyway, here’s the next to last chapter. (Sniffle.)
----
“What’s this? Does my little Kokoro have a thing for Kyou?” Sachiko’s words echoed in Kokoro’s head as she lay on her bed.
“Oh! Snap out of it, Kandi-kane!” Kokoro told herself. “You don’t have a thing for Kyou Sohma.”
“Just think...it could be a double wedding!”
“No...” Kokoro shook her head. It had been four days since they all hung out together.
“My little Kokoro’s growing up so fast.”
“I don’t like him!” Kokoro yelled.
“Don’t like who?” Kohaku stood in the doorway. He was passing by Kokoro’s room when he heard her yell.
A small blush spread across Kokoro’s face. “N–No one”! She quickly defended.
Kohaku arched a brow. “Alright, whatever floats your boat.” He shrugged and left.
“Kokoro! Telephone!” Sachiko called from down the hallway.
Kokoro got up from her bed and walked down the hall. “Who is it?” She asked Sachiko.
“Your boyfriend, Kyou.” Sachiko teased.
“He’s not my boyfriend!” Kokoro almost yelled.
Sachiko laughed lightly and handed Kokoro the phone.
“What do you want, Kitty cat?” Kokoro put the phone to her ear.
“What’s your problem?” Kyou asked.
“Nothing.” Kokoro said. “What’d you want?”
“Kasumi’s leaving in a few days.” Kyou informed.
“She’s what?” Kokoro switched the phone to her other ear. “How many days?”
“Well...the end of the month.” Kyou sighed.
“The end of the month? That’s like...three days from now.”
“I know.”
“So? What did you call me for?”
“Kasumi likes hanging out with you and Kippei so I was wondering if you guys would want to–...”
“Hang out?”
“Yeah.”
“When?”
< br> “Later on today?”
“Sure.” Speaking of leaving...Kokoro thought. When are we supposed to leave?
“Thanks.”
“How does right now sound?”
“Right now?”
“Sure. No time like the present, as Sachiko always says.” Kokoro smiled lightly.
“Alright.” Kyou agreed.
“The park. Kassie likes the park.” Kokoro suggested.
“Okay.”
“I’ll be there with Kippei in a few.”
“Okay.”
“Bye, Kyou.”
“Bye.”
Kokoro hung up. She took a step back, barely realizing that her heart had sped up the entire time she had been talking to Kyou. You don’t like him, Kandi-kane. She insisted. “Kippei, Kippei...” She looked around.
“Kokoro!” Mizuko called from the living room.
Kokoro blinked and headed for the living room. She walked in, noticing everyone sitting down. “Woah...don’t tell me this is some kind of intervention for me. What’d I do?”
“Sit, Kokoro. It’s not an intervention, it’s a family meeting.” Mizuko said.
“Uh oh, what’d Aunt Sachiko decide without you this time?” Kokoro sat down on the floor.
“Nothing, surprisingly.” Mizuko said. She looked to Sachiko and Ryu and nodded.
Ryu and Sachiko stood up along with Mizuko.
“We’re not going back to America.” Mizuko announced calmly.
“What?!” Ariel practically screamed.
“Shush, Ariel.” Leo said quietly.
“Don’t tell me to shush, Leo!” Ariel yelled. “What do you mean we’re not going back to America?!”
“We’re moving here officially.” Ryu said.
“Are you serious?” Torrence blinked.
“Dead.” Sachiko nodded. “We thought it was best for us. The environment here has done all of you a lot of good.”
“Excuse me?!” Ariel yelled again. “What gave you the right to decide for us?!”
“I’m not only your guardian, Ariel, but the leader of this family as well.” Sachiko looked to Ariel.
“Not for long.” Ariel grumbled. “Only a few more years until I graduate.”
“Until then, or until you’re eighteen, you’re under my watch.” Sachiko said.
“So Leo and Torrence don’t have to stay?” Kippei asked.
“No, they don’t. But they look like they want to.” Mizuko said.
Leo and Torrence nodded.
“This isn’t fair!” Ariel screamed.
“Life isn’t fair, Aries!” Kokoro yelled back at her.
Ariel fell quiet and glared at Kokoro. “What was that, Cancer?”
“Life isn’t fair.” Kokoro repeated. “Besides, look at it this way...would you rather be here where your whole family loves you or back in America where your own mother hates you with every breath in her body?”
“That’s a little harsh, isn’t it?” Torrence winced.
“It’s the truth.” Kokoro shrugged. “I say we stay. Kippei, we’re going to the park.”
“We? Since when?” Kippei looked to his older sister.
“Since Kyou and Kasumi requested our presence.” Kokoro rolled her eyes. “Let’s go.” She got up and walked out.
Kippei got up from the couch and followed Kokoro out the door. “Hey, what’s your problem?”
“I’m glad we’re staying.” Kokoro mumbled as she walked towards the park.
“Is this about Mom and Dad? Is that why you wanna stay?” Kippei asked.
Kokoro stayed quiet.
Kippei walked in front of her and stopped. “Kokoro, one of these days you’re gonna have to face the fact that Mom and Dad did not abandon us. They did what they felt was right for us to grow up.”
“Kippei. Shut up.” Kokoro commanded. She walked past him.
“Kokoro!” Kippei followed after her. “They didn’t abandon us!”
“It’s not about Mom and Dad, Kippei!” Kokoro yelled. “Or...maybe it is. I don’t know. There’s just a lot going on in my mind.”
“Sorry.” Kippei apologized.
“Come on, Kyou and Kasumi are waiting for us.” Kokoro said.
Kippei quickly followed.
Finally it dawned on her. She suddenly realized...she was moving to Japan for good. A small smile spread across Kokoro’s face as she began to run to the park.
“What’re we doing at the park, Kitty kitty?” Kasumi asked as they arrived at the park.
“You’ll see.” Kyou said, looking around.
Kasumi’s eyes searched the area. No one was really around.
“Where are they?” Kyou grumbled under his breath.
“Hey!” Kokoro ran over as she and Kippei spotted them. She was so excited that she tackled Kyou to the ground, both of them transforming.
Kippei and Kasumi stood stunned. They stared down at the orange cat and red crab in the grass.
“What was the big idea?!” Kyou yelled as he stood up.
“Guess what!” Kokoro said excitedly.
“What?” Kasumi asked, kneeling down.
“We’re not going back to America! We’re staying here in Japan!” Kokoro jumped up and down on her little crab legs.
“Kokoro, you’re a nut case.” Kippei kneeled down and picked Kokoro up in his hands.
Kasumi scooped Kyou up into one of her arms and wrapped his fallen clothes around the other. “Really, Kokoro?”
“Yeah, Sachiko and Mizuko told us just before we came.” Kokoro crawled up Kippei’s arm, onto his shoulder.
“That’s great.” Kasumi smiled lightly.
“Yeah!” Kokoro laughed.
They fell silent for a moment, leaving the silence victim to the soft sound of purring.
Kippei and Kokoro looked confused as they stared at Kasumi and Kyou.
Kasumi had started petting Kyou without realizing, scratching behind his ears. A hotspot on any cat.
“Uh...Kyou?” Kokoro looked at Kyou.
“Kassie.” Kippei nodded towards Kyou.
“Hm? Oh!” Kasumi stopped scratching behind Kyou’s ears. “Sorry...it’s like a reflex whenever I hold a cat.”
“So, Kasumi, I hear you’re leaving in about three days.” Kokoro said.
“Uh yeah...” Kasumi looked to the ground.
“What?” Kippei blinked.
“Oh, I guess you don’t know yet.” Kasumi sighed. “I have to go back to California so I can catch up on my school work in a few days.”
“Oh.” Kippei looked to the ground as well.
“Hey Kippei, Kokoro,” Kasumi called.
Kippei and Kokoro looked to Kasumi.
“It’d be great if...you could go with us to the airport the day I leave. That way I could say bye right before I leave.” Kasumi smiled lightly.
“That’d be great.” Kippei smiled.
“So will you?” Kasumi asked.
“Of course!” Kokoro nodded.
“Great! Hear that, Kyou?” Kasumi looked down at Kyou in her arms.
“Of course I heard. I’m not deaf.” Kyou said.
Kasumi smiled and hugged Kyou.
The rest of their day was spent laughing and playing around the park. Kasumi was glad she wouldn’t leave empty-handed without any good memories to reflect back on.

And there’s chapter thirteen. (Sniffle.) I can’t believe the next chapter’s the last one! Dear Lord Jesus. Well, that one should be up soon. I’ve had it pretty much planned out since the end. I’ve even seen it in my dreams. X3 So there ya go!
