Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ East Side, West Side ❯ I Promise ( Chapter 14 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
So here it is...the last chapter. Wow...I feel so...strange. Ending it already. But I already got another fic lined up. As one of my reviewers said, that’s what sucks about OC’s, you get attached to them and then the end comes. This chapter’s gonna be a little short. So here goes the last chapter of East Side, West Side. Chapter fourteen...

----

“Kasumi, are you ready to go?” Shigure entered Kasumi’s room the morning of her departure.

“Give me a sec.” Kasumi put a few more things into her suitcase. She finished up and sighed, looking around the room.

“Don’t look so sad, Kasumi. It’s not like this will be your last visit.” Shigure smiled lightly, though he felt a bit sad as he watched Kasumi stand in the now empty room. Just a few weeks before, Kasumi had it a mess with all her papers and things scattered across the floor and on the bed.

“Okay, let’s go.” Kasumi picked up her bags and turned out of the room.

Shigure followed after her.

“Kyou, Yuki, and Tohru are coming too, right?” Kasumi asked.

“Of course.” Shigure nodded. “They’re all set and ready to go. Hatori’s downstairs too, he’ll be driving us to the airport.”

Kasumi nodded and went downstairs.

Kyou, Yuki, and Tohru stood near the bottom of the stairs. Tohru had a slight frown on her face. Yuki was still half-asleep. And Kyou...Kyou had his head turned away so he wouldn’t have to see the sight of his sister with her suitcase in hand, ready to leave.

Kyou and Kasumi had made a stronger bond than they ever had before during the past three days. He didn’t really want to because he knew she’d be leaving but somehow they had.

They all left out the door, meeting up with Hatori outside.

“Hi Hatori.” Kasumi smiled lightly.

“Did you have a good stay here, Kasumi?” Hatori asked.

“Uh huh.” Kasumi nodded.

“That’s good. Let’s get going so you won’t be late.” Hatori said.

Kasumi silently nodded again and got inside the car.

Shigure got in the front seat while Kyou, Yuki, and Tohru joined Kasumi in the backseat.

The drive to the airport was long and quiet. No one felt like talking.

When they parked, they noticed a familiar vehicle with a very familiar trio standing beside it.
“Kokoro!” Kasumi smiled and ran towards Kokoro, Kippei, and Sachiko.

“Hey Kassie!” Kokoro smiled, hugging Kasumi. “You ready to go?”

“Yeah.” Kasumi lied. She would never be ready to go. Especially now.

They all went into the airport and waited for Kasumi’s flight to be called. When it was, it was time to say goodbye.

“So this is it, huh Kassie?” Kokoro smiled lightly, trying to hold back her tears.

“For a while.” Kasumi nodded, a few tears flooding her eyes.

“It was great getting to know you. You’re a cool person.” Kokoro laughed lightly, giving Kasumi another hug.

“You too.” Kasumi hugged Kokoro back. She turned to Tohru. “Bye Tohru, it was nice meeting you.” She smiled.

“It was great meeting you too, Kasumi.” Tohru hugged Kasumi. “Write to us, okay?”

“You know it.” Kasumi laughed lightly. She turned to Yuki.

“It was nice seeing you again.” Yuki said. “Come back sometime soon.”

“I’ll try.” Kasumi sniffled. She gave him a hug. “Hopefully it won’t be another seven years.”

Yuki hugged her back.

Kasumi let go and turned to Kippei.

Kippei looked back at her. They didn’t want to risk the chance of transforming in the airport so they didn’t embrace. Instead, Kippei gently took Kasumi’s hand and kissed it.

Kasumi blushed lightly.

Kippei looked to her and smiled lightly.

Kasumi smiled, taking back her hand.

Then...it was time for her to say goodbye to Kyou.

Kasumi looked to Kyou, her tears getting ready to overflow. She bit her lip.

Kyou looked to his younger sister, sad to be watching her leave.

Kasumi walked over to him and hugged him tightly. “Bye Kyou-oniichan...”

Kyou hugged Kasumi back tightly as well. “Bye Kasumi.”

Kasumi let go and took a step back. She turned around and started walking away. After a few steps she stopped. Before anyone could have time to wonder why, Kasumi ran back and hugged Kyou tightly once more. Her tears had finally started to roll down her face.

Kyou was almost knocked back by Kasumi’s hug. He winced lightly. Not in pain from Kasumi almost tackling him, but from not wanting to watch her leave. He hugged her back again, gently rubbing her head.

“Don’t make me go, Kyou!” She cried into his shoulder. “Don’t make me leave!”

“Kasumi...” Kyou said softly, remembering the first time Kasumi left.

“Don’t let them take me, Kyou-oniichan! Don’t let them take me away!” Kasumi had screamed.

“I don’t wanna leave!” Kasumi continued to cry.

Kyou took in a deep breath. He knew he had to do something that he really didn’t want to. But neither of them would learn to let go if he didn’t...

He pushed her away hard enough to make her let go but not hard enough to hurt her.

Kasumi looked up at him, confused. The tears kept rolling down her cheeks.

“Go.” Kyou simply told her.

Kasumi just kept staring at him.

“Go!” He raised his voice. “Go on, go back to America.”

“K–Kyou...” Kasumi’s eyes shimmered.

“This isn’t the last time we’ll see each other, Kasumi. Trust me.” Kyou said. “Just...work hard and...I’ll see you again...I promise.”

“B–But..” Kasumi started.

“Kasumi, go.” Kyou urged.

Kasumi sniffled and slowly nodded. “I love you, Kyou-oniichan...” She turned and left, trying not to look back.

“I...love you too, Kasumi.” Kyou said quietly as he watched Kasumi walk away.

And that’s it! ...Wow...that’s it...What now? Well...that’s easy! You thought this was the last chapter, didn’t you? Well it is! The one after this is a preview of this fic’s sequel! Ha! I’ve been planning this all along! X3 I have a good feeling about the next one too. Yay!
