Frozen In The Snow
Chapter Two: Confrontations
By: Demon Priestess Saturn
Yuki panicked and ran as fast as he could towards Haru. It almost seemed to take forever, like running in a dream. Yuki's mind was fixed on the situation at hand. His feet pounded hard against the cement and his heart pounded like a drum. It all seemed like a blur to him but when he reached Haru his body moved on its own. He swung his hand outward and smacked Haru's hand knocking the knife to the ground. Yuki bit his lower lip and looked at his right hand. He must have hit the knife's blade. He looked at the deep cut on his hand and cringed as blood started to drip off the side of his hand and onto the ground. His hand was in severe pain but he didn't care at the moment. He glanced at Haru with a look of absolute fear on his face.
“What are you doing?” Yuki gasped and fixed his purple eyes on Haru's browns. Haru stared up and him but said nothing. “Haru! Answer me… What's wrong with you? Why won't you talk to me?” Yuki looked about to cry. “You're hurting me.”
Haru stared at him and his eyes changed. He stared back a Yuki with a hurt expression on his face. He didn't mean to hurt Yuki's feelings. But he wasn't thinking about how he was making Yuki feel. Haru opened his mouth but the words wouldn't come out. He stared at Yuki and Yuki stared back.
“Please just answer me!” Yuki yelled and started to cry. “I want you to tell me what's going on. You're scaring me. Haru everyone's worried sick and you need to talk to someone. Tell me what's going on… Please Haru.” Yuki was begging. He was afraid and Haru wasn't saying anything. “I just want to help.” Yuki calmed and fell to his knees he stared at the ground.
“It's not…” Haru started to say something. Yuki looked up at him with tears streaming down his face. Haru kneeled down and wiped the tears from Yuki's eyes. “I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking. Now look what I've done. I've hurt your feelings.”
“Stop thinking about me for two seconds will you! What's wrong? What possessed you to pick up that knife? Haru stop avoiding my questions.” Yuki snapped lightly in his daze. Haru stared for a while and then he pulled out his hanker chief. He lifted up Yuki's cut hand and started bandaging it up.
“I just don't know how to deal with this pain.” Haru began calmly as he carefully bandaged up the cut hand. “I fell in love with someone, I asked her out, then she dumped me two weeks ago. She got hurt, ended up in the hospital, and then she changed. She told me I was just a fling and that she was never in love with me. I thought maybe because we were in the zodiac, that it would work out. But she changed and now I'm hurting beyond what I can express. I can't stand the pain and I didn't know how to tell you. I was keeping this relationship a secret from everyone. I feel guilty cos I never told you. I'm sorry… I just… I wasn't thinking. And now I broke my promise to myself. I'm sorry.” Haru finished with Yuki's hand and leaned back against the wall. He looked up at the blue sky with sadness etched into his eyes. Yuki stared at Haru, he wasn't sure what to make of what Haru had said. In fact Haru almost sounded as if his mind wasn't staying on track either.
“You were dating someone from the zodiac?” Yuki said almost out of shocked.
“Yeah. And I thought we were in love with each other. I thought she loved me but I guess that wasn't true. Or maybe it was my fault. Maybe I'm to blame. Perhaps I didn't prove to her that I loved her.” Haru leaned forward and place his head in his hand. “I don't know. I'm so confused. I can't think anymore.”
“Haru…” Yuki hugged him. “Don't be afraid to talk to me. I'm your friend that's what I'm here for. I want to help.”
“I know… I'm so sorry.” Haru hugged him back and buried his face in Yuki's shirt.
“It's okay. You can get through this. I'll help just promise me you won't scare me like that again.” Yuki pulled away and looked him in the eyes. “Promise me you won't try and kill yourself again.”
“I promise.” Haru smiled softly.
“Good.” Yuki fully relaxed and sat a crossed from him. The two stared at each other for a moment.
“Man I got so worked up over after singing that song.” Haru said to himself.
“I know. I could tell. I'm just glad I followed you.” Yuki said calmly.
“Me too.” Haru said. “That was so stupid of me.”
“I can tell you weren't thinking straight. You couldn't even explain the situation straight.” Yuki commented.
“Still no excuse for me to do that to you.” Haru muttered and glared. He was more than a little angry with how stupid he was being. “And don't you start saying or thinking you are being selfish because your not.”
“Whatever brought that up?” Yuki stared innocently to hide the fact that he had been caught red handed. “You sang that song really well.”
“Thanks.” Haru smiled to himself.
“Yuki… Haru?” Tohru walked up with a worried expression on her face.
“Miss Honda?” Yuki looked up at her.
“I heard yelling. Is everything okay?” Tohru looked at them.
“Everything's fine now.” Yuki smiled.
“But who was yelling?” Tohru asked.
“It's okay. I just needed to be talked down too.” Haru smiled at her.
“Oh…” Tohru looked confused. Kyo came stalking around the corner.
“Alright what was with the yelling?” Kyo glared.
“Nothing important to you.” Yuki huffed.
“Excuse me rat boy for asking why you two were causing a scene back here!” Kyo snapped and got in Yuki's face.
“Well there wouldn't be a scene if you had kept your unusually large mouth shut.” Yuki closed his eyes and crossed his arms.
“What's that supposed to mean!” Kyo yelled.
“That you're the one causing the scene.” Yuki retorted.
“Why I ought to…” Kyo raised his fist and stopped. Yuki opened his eyes and looked over at Haru. Haru sat on the other side of them giggling.
“Hatsuharu san?” Tohru looked at him and smiled lightly. Haru started laughing.
“You two act like siblings. It's funny.” Haru laughed.
“What did you say!” Kyo yelled.
“Kyo stop it.” Yuki said and smiled. Haru continued to laugh and Tohru sat next to him. All of them were happy to see Haru smiling and laughing again, though Kyo wasn't about to admit it. Tohru looked over at Yuki and he smiled at her. Then her expression changed to one of extreme worry.
“Oh my goss! What happened?” Tohru screeched a little. Haru stopped laughing and fixed his attention on her. Tohru slid onto the ground and over to Yuki. “Your hand's bleeding!”
“Oh…” Yuki looked at his bandaged hand. The blood was now seeping through the cloth.
“Oh crap… You probably need stitches.” Haru said looking at the blood. “I guess you smacked that knife too hard.”
“What knife?” Tohru flipped and looked around quickly. Kyo stood there and remained quiet. He had noticed the bloody knife on the ground and he glanced from Haru to Yuki.
“So how did your hand get cut?” Kyo inquired. Everyone looked at him.
“He smacked it on a knife.” Haru said calmly.
“So why was the knife involved in the first place?” Kyo asked. Haru stared at him with an expressionless face. Yuki turned his head and fixed his wide eyes on Haru. He didn't expect Kyo to ask about it.
“We don't have time to discuss this right now.” Haru glared and helped Yuki up. “Lets go to the nurses office and call Hatori.”
“You're going to have to explain it to the nurse.” Kyo snapped. Haru stopped, while Yuki stared at the look on Haru's face. Kyo's attention drifted to Yuki.
“I'm coming to.” Tohru said. “I want to make sure you're going to be okay.”
“Come on.” Haru said finally and the three walked off. Kyo stared at them with a glare on his face as they walked off. What was Yuki and Haru hiding?
…………………
“Hatori says he's on the way.” Haru walked back into the nurse's office. Tohru sat next to Yuki fretting over his injured hand.
“Oh good cos it wont stop bleeding.” Tohru said as she put pressure on the wound. Yuki cringed a little and Haru frowned.
“This is my fault.” Haru muttered as he leaned against the wall.
“Don't say that.” Yuki said as he looked at him.
“What's going on? Are you okay Haru san?” Tohru looked at him.
“Yeah.” Haru mumbled.
“YUKI!” Momiji ran in. “What happened? Everyone said you got into a fight with Haru.”
“What?” Yuki looked confused. Haru sighed.
“Stupid kids. That's not what happened.” Haru shook his head.
“Then what happened? Oh yeah did you hear! Isuzu is going to be getting out of the hospital soon.” Momiji smiled. “Hiro sounded so happy about it.”
“Isuzu…” Yuki whispered and then he glanced at Haru.
“When?” Haru asked calmly.
“In a week. Isn't that good news? Oh and Ayame is going to be at Shigure's house when you guys get home.” Momiji smiled.
“Great…” Yuki sighed and looked at the ground. He wasn't found of his older brother.
“Aya san is coming over? Oh no! I should plan for dinner!” Tohru pulled out some paper and started writing frantically.
“Haru. Hiro said he had a bone to pick with you.” Momiji looked at Haru.
“Over what?” Haru looked at Momiji.
“I don't know something about Kisa.” Momiji said as he played with his hat.
“Is this about her broken arm?” Haru looked at Momiji.
“Kisa has a broken arm!” Tohru jumped off the chair. “What happened? Is she okay?”
“She's fine.” Haru answered.
“How did her arm get broken?” Yuki asked absentmindedly.
“How does everyone usually get hurt?” Haru answered. Yuki looked over at him.
“But why her?” Yuki asked.
“Because Hiro likes her.” Haru said calmly.
“Then was Isuzu hurt by him too?” Yuki asked. Haru opened his mouth and then closed it again. He had no idea how Rin got hurt. In fact he didn't think to even ask.
“I don't know.” Haru said finally. “I didn't ask.”
At that moment a tall man walked into the room. He glanced around at the people in the room with icy brown eyes. He walked over to Yuki and unwrapped his hand. His short dark brown hair fell annoyingly in his face and he looked as calm as always.
“Yuki. How did this happen?” The man looked harshly at Yuki.
“I smacked my hand against a pocket knife.” Yuki answered. The man looked at the cut and shook his head.
“Who was the one with a knife at school?” He looked at Yuki.
“Um…” Yuki bit his lower lip.
“It was my knife Hatori” Haru stepped up.
“What were you doing with that knife at school Haru? You know better than to bring weapons to school. I am going to have to tell your mother.” Hatori glared.
“I know.” Haru looked at the floor. “I'm sorry.”
“It was your knife…” Tohru looked at him.
“Yeah.” Haru said.
“You attacked Yuki with the knife? Is that what the kids meant when they said you were fighting?” Momiji looked surprised. “I thought he was your friend Haru.”
“No that's not what happened.” Haru didn't know what to say. For a long time they said nothing that's when Yuki decided it was time to do something.
“It was a group of kids. They cornered Haru around the building and pulled his knife out of his pocket. They were going to kill him but I kicked the knife out of there hands.” Yuki answered. Hatori looked over at him. Hatori just stared and Yuki stared back at him hoping that Hatori wouldn't catch the fact he was lying.
“I would believe that accept one problem.” Kyo said as he walked in the door. “You and I both know Haru has the same martial arts training as us. So how could they corner him?” Kyo looked at Yuki. Yuki glared back at Kyo, he was a little more than pissed.
“Why do you have to doubt what I say Kyo! I told you what happened. Even martial arts masters get cornered sometimes.” Yuki snapped.
“Then how come you both don't really look like you were in a fight?” Kyo countered.
“Yuki. Is there a reason you feel like you have to lie?” Hatori asked and Yuki looked at him. He hadn't convinced Hatori after all.
“It's personal… Do we have to tell you?” Haru said finally. “It's nothing damaging. I just don't…”
“Haru did you try and hurt Yuki?” Kyo glared at him. Haru looked insulted.
“No. It's true what we said about how his hand got cut. He smacked the knife.” Haru said again.
“It's true okay. I smacked the knife. I knew I might get cut in doing it but I needed to get it away from Haru.” Yuki was trying to defend as much as possible.
“Why won't you just tell us? We wont get mad at you guys.” Tohru put her hand on Yuki's shoulder. Yuki looked at her.
“Because I respect Haru too much to say it. If Haru wants to tell it's up to him.” Yuki answered. Hatori looked at Haru and noticed how distraught he looked and sighed. He started to stitch up Yuki's hand.
“It's not that important anyway.” Hatori said and Kyo stared in disbelief.
“I don't believe this.” Kyo stalked out.
“Thank you Hatori.” Yuki said calmly.
“Now do you want to tell me what was going on?” Hatori looked over at Haru. Haru sighed he had finally given in.
“Okay… I was going to take the knife to my wrist. That's why Yuki cut his hand. He smacked the knife and cut his hand.” Haru finished. Hatori stared at Haru and then went back to Yuki's hand. “But I'm okay now. And I promise I won't do it again.”
“You must be really upset about that whole thing.” Hatori said calmly.
“I'm sorry.” Haru looked at the ground.
“It's okay Haru. I just want you to know that we are here for you if you have a problem.” Hatori said as he finished up with Yuki's hand. Tohru stared in shock at what she heard and glanced at Yuki and then at Haru.
“Am I still in trouble?” Haru asked calmly.
“No.” Hatori answered.
“Thanks Hatori.” Yuki smiled lightly.
“I'll leave this to you then.” Hatori finished with Yuki's hand and stood up slowly. He walked over to Haru and looked into his brown eyes. “If you ever need to talk you know where I am.”
“Yeah.” Haru nodded and Hatori left.
“He took that a little better than expected.” Yuki said.
“Yeah he did.” Haru stared at the door as Hatori disappeared around the corner.
End Chapter Two
Okay I think I really need to get this moving. It's to bad I had to stop writing here. On well I didn't want the chapter to be too long.
