Frozen In The Snow

Chapter Three: The Damage
By: Demon Priestess Saturn

Haru paced around the schoolyard thinking to himself. It had been a week since the incident behind the school and he was feeling anxious. He hadn't been able to find Yuki all day, which was by far a strange occurrence. Haru sighed deeply to himself and wondered what was going on. He glanced over at Arisa and Hana as they headed over to they're favorite spot under the large cherry tree. He wondered if he should ask them about Yuki. Haru then spotted Tohru and smiled. He walked over to them and gave a slight wave.

“Hello Haru san.” Tohru smiled brightly.
“Hey. I was wondering have you seen Yuki?” Haru asked calmly. Tohru frowned at this and looked at the ground. Arisa and Hana also seemed to be avoiding his stare. “What's up?”
“Well you see.” Tohru began.
“Hey guys.” Kyo walked up and smiled happily. Haru looked over at him and frowned. Kyo had been usually nice to him since that day he tried to take his life. And yet Kyo hadn't asked him or pressed him for the answer he didn't receive. On another usual note Kyo seemed really happy.
“Kyo.” Tohru smiled brightly and gave him slight a hug.
“You feeling okay?” Kyo asked at he looked into her large brown eyes.
“Yes I am.” Tohru replied with her cute little smile. Haru stared at them almost in shock, what on earth was going on here.
“Hey Haru.” Kyo looked at him.
“Hey.” Haru was still dumbfounded. “Have you seen Yuki today?” At the mention of Yuki, Kyo also frowned.
“Yeah he's around here somewhere.” Kyo looked away from Haru.
“So when are you love birds leaving for your trip.” Arisa asked calmly.
“We're leaving tonight.” Kyo said with a smile.
“Remember Kyo if something should happen to her.” Hana glared.
“I know! I know! You'll both kill me. Don't worry nothings going to happen. I'll protect her. She's my woman after all.” Kyo said quickly.
“Oh Kyo.” Tohru blushed bright red and looked at the ground.
“You're woman?” Haru looked at him confused.
“Don't tell Akito but I'm dating Tohru.” Kyo said. Haru almost lost his balance from shock.
“What?” Haru said and stared back in shock.
“Me and Tohru are going out. Do you have a problem with that?” Kyo glared.
“No. I don't have a problem. It just surprised me is all.” Haru sounded calm but underneath it all he was furious. Kyo knew damn well Yuki liked Tohru so why would he make this move?
“Yeah me and Tohru were going to go up to the summer home for a few days. Hatori's taking us up there.” Kyo said with a smile.
“And what does Yuki think of this?” Haru finally asked.
“Yuki's been avoiding both of us. He won't even talk to us.” Tohru frowned. “Haru I'm so worried about him. Is he okay?”
“That rat will get over it.” Kyo snapped.
“Get over what?” Tohru looked back at him.
“Kyo you can be so heartless sometimes.” Haru glared his anger rising. “Now I know you did it on purpose.”
“Did what on purpose? He was stupid enough not to make a move so it's his fault.” Kyo glared. Haru was about to come unglued. How dare Kyo say such things.
“Kyo you are so selfish it's unbelievable. I feel sorry for Kagura when she finds out.” Haru stormed off. He didn't feel like going black at the moment. It was bad enough that he could barely control his temper as of late. He also wanted to talk to Yuki. He must not have taken the news well because he was hiding. And Yuki only hid when he was hurt. Haru walked into the school and looked around. He asked various people if they had seen Yuki but everyone shook they're heads.
“Hi Haru!” Momiji jumped on his back. “How are you feeling today?” Momiji asked happily.
“Cranky. Momiji have you seen Yuki?” Haru glanced up at him.
“Yeah he's on the roof. He seems really upset today. Did something happen?” Momiji asked.
“That's exactly what I am trying to find out. Thanks Momiji.” Haru smiled and pulled Momiji off him. He turned and ran down the hall and up the stairs. In truth he knew what was wrong but he didn't what to bother Momiji with the news. That and he wasn't sure if Momiji would accidentally tell Hatori or even worse Akito about the latest event. When Haru reached the door to the roof he paused glancing back down the stairs. He watched the kids walking back a forth for a moment before opening the door. As he stepped onto the roof he squinted his eyes at the brightness of the white top. He glanced around at some kids in groups here and there but he didn't see Yuki anywhere. He walked to his right and looked around. As he pasted the square box he had just walked out of he spotted Yuki sitting on the ground leaning against its white wall. Haru sighed and walked over to him. He sat down beside him and looked at his grey haired friend. Yuki looked at him and seemed as though nothing was wrong.

“Hi.” Yuki said as calmly as ever.
“You okay?” Haru asked. “I heard what happened.”
“I'm fine.” Yuki said as he looked back out at the buildings in the distance.
“Don't lie to me.” Haru said with a frown. “Yuki please talk to me.”
“I just.” Yuki rested his forehead on Haru's shoulder. “If I had known…”
“Yuki.” Haru felt something warm and wet drip on his hand. “Are you crying?”
“I last time I cried it was the day I realized I was in love with Miss Honda and now Kyo's won.” Yuki mumbled. “And now I wish I had never met her.”
“Don't say that. And don't give up. I'm sure Kyo will drop it sooner or later once he stops being an igit.” Haru said calmly.
“Then I guess you don't know Kyo after all.” Yuki said but not moving from his spot.
“I know him well enough to say it wont last.” Haru commented.
“How can you be so sure?” Yuki said pessimistically.
“Hey. Listen to me.” Haru lifted Yuki's chin so he was looking him in the eyes. “I don't want you to give up. Promise me you wont give up.”
“Haru I can't…”
“Promise me.” Haru said firmly.
“I'll try.” Yuki said with a hint of sadness.
“Don't try do.” Haru said as he let go of his chin. Yuki stared at him for a moment and smiled sadly. He diverted his attention to the white floor and thought to himself. Haru sighed. He knew he hadn't gotten Yuki to agree but he wasn't about to push him either.
“So did Isuzu get out of the hospital?” Yuki asked finally.
“She got out yesterday.” Haru leaned back against the wall putting his arms behind his head.
“Did you see her?” Yuki looked over at him.
“I saw her as she came back into the main house. I watched Kagura take her home. She didn't see me though.” Haru stared at the sky.
“But you didn't want her to see you. Did you?” Yuki stared at him.
“No. I didn't.” Haru stood up. “Well I better get to class and you should too. Get better okay.” Haru smiled softly.
“I will.” Yuki returned the smile. Haru's smile brightened. He was happy to see Yuki was feeling better and walked back down the stairs to head to class.

Later that afternoon Haru walked back into the main section of the Sohma estate. He closed the gate behind him and started to head home. He stopped walking and looked over at the main house. It was a little quiet today and for some reason Momiji didn't seem to be home yet. Haru glanced over at Hatori's house, was Hatori gone too? Haru continued to walk along the path to his home. It was an amazing sight considering Haru usually never found his way home by himself. As he wondered up to his house he could see a little boy with short blonde hair and big maroon eyes staring at him as he walked up. Haru sighed, he had been trying to avoid this kid since he had heard he wanted to talk to him. Haru continued to walk up to his house and prepared himself for a whip lashing.

“Hi Hiro.” Haru said as he stopped a few feet from the porch.
“Oh so now you decide to talk to me you ungrateful twit? I should get you in trouble for avoiding me. What are you a coward or something? Not prepared to face the worst. Or is it that you could be feeling sorry for yourself? You are so selfish Haru.” Hiro glared and folded his arms.
“Just tell me what you came here to say.” Haru wasn't in the mood to put up with his long-winded bullshit.
“Well that was rude. How dare you speak to me that way. Don't you treat anyone with respect? Oh I guess that's why you're the cow. You must be too stupid to understand what respect is. After all you were lead around by the nose by a rat. In fact you still are.” Hiro taunted. This line pissed Haru off. He hated being called stupid and more than ever he hated being called a mindless slave.
“I could say the same thing about you sheep.” Haru snapped.
“Yeah well at least I'm not stupid enough to get tricked by a rat.” Hiro countered.
“Shut up.” Haru was starting to loose it.
“So typical. Well anyways I came here to tell you to stay away from Kisa. You aren't good enough to protect her.” Hiro stood up.
“Well neither are you. You're just a kid. And I'll protect Kisa if I want to.” Haru glared.
“I may be just a kid but so are you. You couldn't even protect Rin from Akito. What makes you think you could protect Kisa?” Hiro's eyes went wide and he covered his mouth.
“What?” Haru looked strangely at him. “What are you talking about that I couldn't protect Rin from Akito?”
“Did I say Rin? I meant Yuki. Idiot.” Hiro said trying to cover up his mistake.
“Don't lie to me Hiro. What are you talking about?” Haru said firmly with a glare.
“What do you care for?! It's your fault Rin got hurt! If you hadn't asked her out, maybe Akito wouldn't have found out and wouldn't have thrown her out the window. Because of your stupidity she ended up in the hospital! And I am not about to let your stupidity get Kisa hurt!” Hiro yelled.
“So that's what happened. Akito found out. Yuki was right.” Haru looked pissed and glanced at the ground. Hiro realized he had said too much he backed up and leaned into the wall. “She broke up with me because Akito got to her.”
“No…” Hiro looked down. “She broke up with you to protect you from getting hurt. It was the deal she made with Akito. Akito was going to punish you until Rin stepped in. She told Akito that she would break up with you and take your punishment. She didn't want you to get hurt.”
“So it's my fault. It's all my fault.” Haru looked at the ground.
“I wasn't supposed to tell you but I just got so angry with you. I'm sorry.” Hiro ran off and disappeared around the corner. Haru tossed his bag on the stairs and stalked off towards the main house. He had a bone to pick with Akito. As he walked up the stairs and into Akito's house he could hear the loud creaking of the floor under his feet. He walked into the main room and stopped. Akito was sitting up holding the bird on his finger. He stared a crossed the room at Haru and let the bird fly to it's perch.

“Hello Haru. What are you doing here?” Akito sneered at his disrespect.
“You threw Rin out the window.” Haru glared. Akito smirked.
“She needed to be taught a lesson.” Akito stood up slowly.
“A lesson?” Haru started to walk towards him. “You tormented Yuki for years. And I let that slide because I got him out. But I will not tolerate you abusing Rin.”
“You are being very disrespectful Hatsuharu.” Akito glared harshly.
“I don't care.” Haru stopped right in front of him. “I am telling you here and now Akito. I don't respect your rule nor do I think we should be lead by you. And I don't approve of the way you treat us. We are not your pets!”
“Well you know I wouldn't have punished her if you hadn't asked her out without my permission.” Akito said calmly.
“And why do I have to have permission to live my life and make myself happy?” Haru snapped. Akito grabbed him from the scuff of the shirt.
“Because I am the head of this family and my word dictates all. You will abide by it.” Akito snapped. Haru broke Akito's hold on his shirt.
“Fine then. Let's see what Shigure thinks about this.” Haru turned and stormed out of the room. Akito glared after him and looked outside his window for a moment. He then looked back in the direction Haru went and smirked.

Haru stormed out of the gate and down the path. He was going to speak with Shigure if it was the last thing he did. As he walked down to the street he turned the corner and heading to the stoplight. He figured if he headed towards the school he could find Shigure's house from there. It had just gotten dark though he didn't care because he wanted something done about this. He pushed the button for the crosswalk just as the light had turned green. Haru glared at the light because now he was going to have to wait for it to change. Some cars went by and he thought about Rin. He soon realized nobody was on the streets tonight. Though people usually weren't out after dark. He felt a slight tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see who it was and he was suddenly shoved. Haru landed in the street on his back and then sat up. His eyes went wide as he glanced back at the sidewalk and then down the road. He heard a loud honk of a horn and saw bright headlights in his eyes. Then the pain shot throughout his body like being smacked with a sledgehammer accept ten times worse. He went flying a crossed the street and came to a stop in the middle of the intersection. His body wracked with pain and blood spilling from the large gashes that were now in his body. He felt dizzy and the pain got worse. His vision blurred and the noise around him got louder and then nothing.

“I'm home!” Tohru said happily as she came in the door after work.
“Hey.” Kyo smiled and walked up to her. “You better get ready. Hatori should be here soon.”
“Okay. Hi Yuki kun.” Tohru waved to Yuki as she went upstairs.
“Ah young love is so cute.” Shigure said from the doorway.
“Shut up before I smack you.” Yuki snapped coldly.
“Oh you are so cold Yuki. No wonder she didn't pick you over Kyo.” Shigure exaggerated.
“Shut up.” Yuki glared at him just as the phone rang. Yuki grumbled to himself and then answered the phone. “Hello? Hi Hatori did you want to speak to Kyo?” Yuki's face suddenly went pale.
“What's up?” Kyo asked.
“I'm ready.” Tohru smiled as she came down the stairs. She frowned when she looked at Yuki.
“Hatori… What happened? How did it happen?” Yuki's voice sounded shaky.
“What's going on Kyo?” Tohru looked over at Kyo.
“I don't know I guess Hatori's on the phone.” Kyo shrugged. Shigure was also frowning.
“We're coming over there. I'll talk to you when we get there.” Yuki hung up the phone.
“Yuki kun? What wrong?” Tohru walked up to him and placed her hands on his shoulders.
“It's Haru… He was hit by a truck... He's slipped into a coma.”
