Frozen In The Snow

Chapter Six: Fading Illusions
By: Demon Priestess Saturn

Tohru walked calmly into the house. She had been talking to Kyo and fretting over his wounds for quite a while now. She looked up the staircase and glanced over back at Shigure who nodded at her slightly. She knew what she needed to do. Kyo walked into the doorway and looked at her with a frown on his face. Tohru smiled to him half-heartily and went up the stairs. She walked to the top of the stairs and down the hall. She walked over to Yuki's door and knocked on it softly.

“Yuki?” She said as she quietly opened the door and peaked inside. She spotted Yuki sitting in the chair. He was leaning forward with his arms crossed on the desk. “Yuki?” Tohru said again as she walked over to him. She rested her hand on his shoulder and looked at him. “Yuki?” She became worried when he didn't look at her. She knelt down letting her worry consume her. Finally she sighed and smiled when she realized he was just asleep.
“Fell asleep on the desk did he?” Tohru turned to see Kyo in the doorway.
“Yeah.” Tohru nodded. Kyo walked over at looked down at Yuki with a solemn look on his face.
“I just don't get it.” Kyo said his expression changing. “Why did I win?”
“But I thought that's what you always wanted Kyo.” Tohru looked confused.
“I thought it was but now I see that I was wrong.” Kyo frowned and looked at the floor.
“Do you think we should put him in his bed?” Tohru looked back at Yuki.
“I'll put him in bed.” Kyo said as he walked over to the sleeping rat. He reached down to grab Yuki's side and gasped.
“What's the matter?” Tohru asked as Kyo lowered his hand.
“Do me a favor Tohru and go get Shigure.” Kyo said calmly.
“Oh… Okay.” Tohru looked confused and reluctantly walked downstairs to get Shigure.
“Hey…” Kyo shook Yuki gently. “Yuki… Come on wake up.”
“Wha…” Yuki opened his purple eyes and sat up. He looked sleepily back to Kyo and rubbed his eyes slightly. “Kyo what?”
“Why didn't you tell me you got hurt?” Kyo looked straight into his eyes.
“What are you talking about?” Yuki glared at him slightly in annoyance.
“Your lower back is bleeding. Why didn't you tell me I hurt you that bad?” Kyo stared at him with a sad look in his eyes.
“You act like it's a serious injury.” Yuki went to stand but he soon fell back down in his chair.
“Look… Just don't move okay.” Kyo rested his hands on the rat's shoulders.
“It's not serious.” Yuki glared at him.
“Well I think it is and I am worried. I want to make sure your okay will you at least let me do that?” Kyo glared at him and raised his voice slightly. Yuki stared back at him with a strange look on his face. “At least I know why I won. I cheated. I didn't realize I hurt you so bad.” Kyo looked away.
“Don't you ever let me hear you say that again.” Yuki snapped. “You won fair and square and you are going to tell Akito that.”
“It wasn't fair…” Kyo went to argue.
“Don't make this whole thing mean nothing Kyo! You won.” Yuki pressed him.
“What do you mean?” Kyo looked confused.
“What's going on Kyo?” Shigure walked back in with Tohru.
“Oh Yuki you're awake. Are you okay?” Tohru ran over and looked at him. It was his turn to be babied. Kyo stood and walked over to Shigure.
“I didn't want Tohru to flip. Yuki has a bad injury on his back I suggest you contact Hatori.” Kyo whispered.
“How bad is it?” Shigure asked.
“I didn't look.” Kyo shrugged.
“Figures he would go and throw the fight and get hurt in the process. Okay I'll go call Hatori.” Shigure turned and walked out of the room.
“Threw the fight?” Kyo looked confused for a moment and then turned back to Yuki and Tohru. “You threw the fight?” Kyo asked and continued to stare Yuki looked back at him with calm eyes. Tohru looked between the two and wondered what was going on. “Did you?”
“I told you already you won fair and square.” Yuki answered.
“But Shigure…” Kyo pointed to the door.
“Shigure doesn't know what he's talking about.” Yuki closed his eyes and looked away from Kyo. “You just get a meeting with Akito and tell him what has taken place today. Accept you might want to leave the fighting over Tohru out of the story.”
“So why is it important to tell Akito?” Kyo asked. Yuki shrugged.
“So maybe Akito would see that I'm not that great. After all it's a shame to loose to a cat.” Yuki replied.
“You two are talking so nicely with each other. I'm so glad.” Tohru smiled brightly. Yuki glanced over at her and smiled slightly.
“Yeah well…” Kyo looked away for some reason her saying that didn't upset him at all.
“Miss Honda? Would you do me a favor and make me some tea?” Yuki asked politely.
“Sure! I'll go fix it up right now.” Tohru smiled brightly and quickly left the room. Yuki cringed slightly and looked out the window. He spotted little water drops landing on the window and knew that it was raining again.
“So are you going to tell me what's going on?” Kyo looked back at him. Yuki sighed.
“Kyo how hard can it be to understand?” Yuki looked at him.
“You can't tell me you didn't throw that fight on purpose. I know your moves…”
“Yes and you caught my leg. You have improved. You figured out just how predictable I am.” Yuki looked at the ground. “And that's why you won.”
“I know that's not the reason and no your not. Stop saying that.” Kyo glared slightly. Yuki looked up at him with curiosity in his purple eyes. “You are way better than me. You always have been. Don't tell me that you suck at fighting because you don't. You are always good at everything.”
“Heh…” Yuki covered his mouth. Kyo looked back at him and opened his mouth slightly. Yuki lowered his hand and looked back at the cat with stern eyes. “I'm not good at everything. I have no idea why you would think that way.”
“Did you almost laugh?” Kyo asked.
“No.” Yuki lied. Kyo's statement actually did amuse him.
“You know… I wish you would open up to me… I don't understand what's going on and right now you have me wondering. I know this whole thing with Tohru has made a large gap between us. And to tell you the truth when Haru was here I didn't care. I care now and I just wish you would talk to somebody.” Kyo felt he was at a loss. Yuki smiled.
“Kyo…” Kyo looked up at him. “You'll find out in time… Just not right now. I know your changing I can see that. But the truth is I don't think anyone will be able to understand, not you, not Shigure, not even Haru.”
“The only reason we don't understand is because you don't say a damn thing.” Kyo snapped. “Over the past two years I've watched you. I always used to think you were happy all the time but then I realized something. You hardly ever smile, you're quiet all the time, you never laugh, and you just seem angry and alone. It bothers me.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Yuki narrowed his eyes.
“Why because I am tired of not saying things to you when I should. Look I know I suck at making people feel better but I just what to know that everything's going to be okay. I'm not Haru and I don't think I could ever take his place but I just want to see you be a little happier.” Kyo felt like he was being stupid. Yuki smiled at him.
“You know… You don't suck at it. You just don't know how to say what you want to say right.” Yuki rested his head on the back of his hands.
“Why are we even talking like this?” Kyo seemed annoyed suddenly. “Why the hell am I opening up to you? Your right I should just go tell Akito that I won.”
“I think I figured it out… You only act like a jerk when your trying to hide your feelings.” Yuki said calmly. Kyo opened his mouth to argue and then shut it again.
“How come you figured that out and not Tohru.” Kyo looked down at the floor.
“Probably because Tohru doesn't understand.” Yuki shrugged.
“Then how come you do?” Kyo glared at him.
“I guess because I finally started paying attention.” Yuki looked down at his desk.
“I feel terrible… Kagura told me goodbye and for some reason it hurt.” Kyo said suddenly.
“I think she would have liked it better if you had told her you were dating Tohru and planned to marry her. Kyo you devastated that poor girl and I devastated her even more by telling her.” Yuki sighed.
“Why did you tell her?”
“Because I didn't want her to continue chasing after someone she could never have. That would have been cruel and unjust to her.” Yuki leaned back on the desk again.
“Did it hurt you?” Kyo asked.
“What do you mean?” Yuki looked at him.
“To find out Tohru was with me?” Kyo asked. Yuki glared suddenly.
“Why would you ask me such a stupid…”
“But its true isn't it?” Kyo pressed. Yuki stood up and glared at him.
“How would you know?” Yuki snapped.
“Because of the way your acting.” Kyo said with a glare.
“Well maybe I am tired of loosing to you all the time.” Yuki glared.
“Yeah well I'm tired of loosing to you.” Kyo snapped. The glare came off of Yuki's face and he stared back at Kyo. He tilted his head to the side and looked confused.
“To me?” Yuki repeated the line. Kyo blinked at him the realization soon hit him. They both thought the same things about each other.
“No wonder we don't get along.” Kyo sat down on the bed. Yuki looked down and him and sighed.
“I guess it takes one long conversation to figure out some things.” Yuki commented. “We've never had a conversation like this before.”
“Why did you even listen?” Kyo looked up.
“For the same reason I listened to my brother a while back. I wanted to try and understand.” Yuki smiled. “And just like with my brother I learned something. You're not as bad as I thought you were.”
“Funny. I'm actually glad to hear you say that.” Kyo smiled himself and looked at the ground. Yuki stared at him for a while and a guilty feeling came over him.
“Kyo… I need to tell you something.” Kyo looked up at Yuki and waited. “I…”
“I'm sorry if I am interrupting but Shigure said we had and emergency.” Hatori said as he walked into Yuki's room.
“An emergency?” Yuki looked confused.
“I need to take a look at your back Yuki.” Hatori said as he stopped in front of Yuki. Yuki glanced back at Kyo as he stood up.
“It's my fault. I told Shigure to call him.” Kyo stared back at Yuki. Yuki raised a brow.
“We're you really that concerned?” Yuki asked.
“Yes.” Kyo nodded.
“Then keep Tohru downstairs.” Yuki sighed as he pulled off his shirt. Kyo smiled and nodded slightly he walked downstairs and caught Tohru in the hall.
“Kyo?” Tohru looked at him.
“Come on lets go wait in the kitchen. Yuki said he would come down after he changes.” Kyo lead her back into the kitchen.
“Okay.” She smiled.

………………….

Hatori examined the wound in Yuki's back. It was a rather deep wound and was about as big as a golf ball. It was bleeding slightly and appeared to have little tiny bit of brown inside it. Hatori sighed as he starting pulling out the small bits of wood from the discolored wound. Yuki cringed a few times but otherwise remained quiet.

“So what happened?” Hatori asked as he pulled out an alcohol bottle from his bag.
“Kyo and I had a fight.” Yuki shrugged.
“Usually you two have fist fights.” Hatori commented.
“It was a fist fight.” Yuki said calmly. “The only difference was I hit a broken tree branch.”
“Well then that explains it.” Hatori replied. “I'm going to give you a little bit of anesthetic. I have to stitch up…”
“Don't bother. Just stitch it. I'll be fine.” Yuki said calmly.
“Are you sure?” Hatori looked at him.
“Yes.” Yuki nodded.
“You don't have to pretend to be tough you know.” Hatori looked at him.
“Just stitch it. I wasn't bothered when you stitched my hand.” Yuki said as he looked over his shoulder. “Besides it doesn't hurt that much.”
“Turn back around.” Hatori instructed. Yuki did as he was told. “When were you planning on telling me about this? If you didn't you would have gotten a bad infection.” Hatori finished cleaning the wound and began to stitch it up. “Your lucky you kidney didn't get hit.”
“I fell asleep after it happened.” Yuki said calmly.
“You were in pain and you fell asleep?” Hatori raised a brow.
“I was tired.”
“Hatori would you like some tea?” Shigure was standing in the doorway.
“In a minute Shigure, I just need to finish stitching this up.” Hatori didn't look over at him.
“That's a pretty nasty wound you have there.” Shigure examined it. “Got a little carried away with that fight did you?”
“Hatori is it possible to arrange a meeting with Akito so that Kyo can come?” Yuki asked.
“What for?” Hatori asked.
“Kyo needs to speak with Akito so I want to know if it's possible.” Yuki stared at the wall. “I want you and Shigure to come.”
“You want us to go with Kyo?” Shigure asked.
“No I want you to come with me and Kyo.” Yuki corrected him.
“You're going to the main house too?” Hatori raised a brow.
“Yes. I need to speak with Akito myself. Do you think you can arrange it for us?” Yuki looked at him.
“I'll see what I can do.” Hatori said quietly. “Though I am not sure you want to see him right now.”
“Sometime soon will be fine.” Yuki looked away.
“Are you sure about this?” Hatori asked as he finished stitching.
“Yes.” Yuki said firmly.
“Alright. I will speak with Akito.” Hatori said as he bandaged Yuki's lower back. “You be careful. I don't want you to rip your stitches so I suggest you and Kyo get along for a while.”
“Don't worry. That was the last fight I think me and Kyo will have for a long time.” Yuki stood up and walked over to his dresser. He pulled out another shirt and put it on. He turned back to both Hatori and Shigure and smiled. “Thank you Hatori.” Yuki turned and walked out the door taking his bloody shirt with him.
“Strange.” Hatori put his tools back into his bag.
“Yuki seems like he has something under control.” Shigure commented.
“Yes he does. I wonder what happened to make him act that confident.” Hatori said calmly. “I'm glad to see he's doing better.”
“He lost that fight with Kyo.” Shigure said calmly. Hatori looked over at him.
“He did?” Hatori looked surprised.
“Yes.” Shigure looked at him. “He lost that fight on purpose.”
“No wonder he's injured.” Hatori picked his bag up and walked out into the hallway.
“Yes. I'm still not sure why he did it.” Shigure smiled.
“Probably to save Kyo.” Hatori stated.
“Do you think he found out about that?” Shigure looked over at his friend.
“I think he has because he is sure taking control of the situation and I am not used to seeing him do that.” Hatori walked down the stairs.
“He only does it when his friends are in trouble and when he knows he can do something about it. Or at least that's when I noticed him do it.” Shigure followed him down the stairs.
“Then he must know.” Hatori sighed.
“So how is Haru?” Shigure asked as they walked into the kitchen.
“He's still in the same condition he's been in for the past two years. Minus the serious injuries he received from the truck.” Hatori said as he looked over at Kyo and Tohru.
“Hatori? I didn't know you were coming back so soon.” Tohru looked surprised.
“I had to come back for an emergency.” Hatori stared back at her.
“Emergency? What happened?” Tohru looked worried.
“It's okay all is fine now.” Hatori set his bag on the floor.
“So how's Yuki?” Kyo asked.
“What's wrong with Yuki?” Tohru looked at Kyo.
“He's fine. I cleaned the wound and stitched it. He should be fine now.” Shigure handed Hatori a cup of tea. “Thank you Shigure.”
“Yuki was hurt?” Tohru covered her mouth.
“That tea smells good.” Yuki walked into the kitchen.
“Yuki.” Tohru ran over to him. “Are you okay what happened? Hatori said he had to stitch up a wound.”
“It was nothing serious. Don't worry.” Yuki smiled at her and rested his head on her forehead. He stared into her brown eyes. Tohru smiled back and blushed a little.
“Okay.” Tohru looked down.

Kyo stared at both Yuki and Tohru and almost smiled. Tohru looked happy and Yuki seemed to be as well. He didn't know why but he suddenly felt better. Then he remembered Kagura and he frowned. What was he going to do about that? Apologize? Kyo's eyes lit up.

“Apologize…” Kyo whispered.
“What?” Yuki looked over at him.
“Nothing.” Kyo quickly walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. He picked up the phone and dialed her number. “Hello. Kagura this is Kyo. I…” Kyo frowned and hung up the phone. “Damn it.”
“What's the matter?” Yuki asked as he walked over.
“She hung up on me.” Kyo grumbled.
“That's strange why would she do that? Try it again.” Yuki said calmly. Kyo picked up the phone and dialed the number again.
“Hello is Kagura there? It's Kyo.” Kyo looked pissed and hung up the phone again. “God damn it!! How mad can she be?”
“Maybe you should give her a few days to cool down.” Yuki suggested.
“Yeah okay.” Kyo's frown deepened. He thought he felt bad before now he felt worse.
