Tohru smiled as she walked to school. She was happy that it was so sunny outside after an entire weekend of rain. Kyo walked ahead of her. She hoped he was Ok like he said since he had spent the entire weekend in bed with a cold. Yuki had some student council business to take care of so he had left earlier to head to the school.
“Kyo are you sure, you're Ok.”
“For the last time, I'm fine. It was just a little cold. Nothing to get too serious about.”
Just then a body came leaping through the air and landed on Kyo's back.
“Kyo, Ha'ri said you were sick. Shouldn't you be in bed? I'm sure Tohru could make you some soup,” came the cheerful voice of Momiji Sohma.
“Momiji, you know that's just going to upset him,” came the duller, calmer voice of Hatsuharu Sohma, who walked up behind them.
“Yeah, you little brat. I swear every time you open your mouth it pisses me off,” Kyo said as he yanked Momiji off his back and hit him on the head.
“Waaah, Kyo hit me,' Momiji whined with fake tears streaming down his face.
“You know Kyo. Hitting him just makes it worse,” Haru said.
“Momiji, it's Ok. Don't cry,” Tohru said.
“Tohru,” Momiji yelled excitedly as he jumped and hugged her.
Immediately a pop was heard and a small white rabbit was in Tohru's arms. She had fallen over in the force of Momiji's excited hug.
“Momiji, you're not supposed to transform at school. You're father and Hatori are going to hear about this,” Haru said as he bent down to pick up Momiji's uniform.
“Awww, Haru, do you have to be so mean?”
“Shut up you little brat. You brought this on yourself,” Kyo yelled.
“Come on, I'll take you to the bathroom so you can get changed when you transform back,” Haru said as he took Momiji from Tohru and carried him into the school.
Kyo helped Tohru off the ground and they turned to follow the other two Sohmas into the school. They traveled down the hall until they ran into Yuki.
“Is there something wrong, Miss Honda? You look upset.”
“Oh no, I'm fine. Momiji just transformed this morning, that's all. I hope nobody saw him.”
“So that was what Haru was trying to hide when he ran past me. Don't worry Miss Honda. Everything will be all right.”
It wasn't long before the two Sohma cousins noticed each other's presence. They stared each other down with equal hatred and annoyance.
“Couldn't you find another place to have an inferiority complex,” Yuki taunted.
“Shut up you damn rat or we'll take this outside so I can beat your ass.”
“Oh really.”
“You are so dead.”
“A cat and a mouse,” a haunting voice said that caused the boys to freeze.
They both glanced over to see Tohru's friends Saki Hanajima and Arisa Uotani standing there, staring at them.
“They still fight like a cat and a mouse,” Hana said explaining her previous statement.
“Yeah, some things never change,” Uo said agreeing with Hana.
“Oh Hana, Uo, good morning,” Tohru said as she ran around the boys to her friends who struck up a lively conversation.
Why can't she ever say something normal when she approaches us? Kyo thought as he glanced over at them.
How can Miss Honda stand her? Yuki thought as both boys lowered their heads in embarrassment for fighting in front of Tohru.
The group walked into the classroom and took their seats. Time seemed to fly and soon the students in class 2-D were ready for their lunch break. Tohru, Hana, Uo, Yuki, and Kyo went up to the roof where they were meeting Haru and Momiji for lunch. Tohru had wanted to have a picnic for a long time, so she had cooked a lot of food for the seven of them and brought it with her to school. They decided on the roof since it would be a place where they could have privacy from the Prince Yuki Fan Club and other admirers of the Sohma family.
“Tohru,” Momiji yelled as he tried to take off towards her from the far side of the roof.
Haru caught the back of his uniform so that all Momiji could do is run in place.
“Momiji, you do remember what we talked about this morning, don't you?”
“Haru, you're so dull. I can't have any fun while you're here.”
At this Kyo hit Momiji on the head causing the boy to once more whine and complain. Yuki was able to calm the boy down by quietly telling him that it was a bad idea for the family to transform in front of Tohru's friends. Meanwhile the girls were spreading out a blanket and pulling food out of the basket.
“All of this looks delicious, Tohru,” Hana complimented.
“Yeah, you're food is the best,” Uo said as she joined them on the blanket.
One by one, the boys joined them. Tohru smiled. She was happy that her friends and the Sohmas could get along so well despite her friends odd qualities. Soon they were done with their lunches and were engaged in a game of Rich Man, Poor Man.
“You and your cheep ass tricks,” Uo yelled at Kyo when he called out Revolution.
“Tricks nothing, that's fair game Yankee.”
“You really shouldn't fight with a girl, Kyo,” Haru commented.
“What's it to you, you damn cow.”
“Kyo…” Yuki started to warn, but it was too late.
Haru had backslapped Kyo.
“You sissy little kitty cat, you couldn't beat me let alone a girl,” Haru said.
“Too late,” Yuki said as he sighed.
“Oh no, it's black Haru,” Tohru said.
“I'm seriously going to murder you,” Kyo said as a fight between him and Haru broke out on the roof.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
~ 1 hour and 30 minutes later…~
Kyo and Haru were both breathing quite heavily. The group had decided to skip class to either watch the fight or try to find a way to stop it. It had continued for quite a while until both fighters were out of breath and bruised. Soon the bell rang signaling the end of classes for the day.
It seemed like that's what they did every time they came to school. They would be fine until they got to school and then the Sohma family would fight amongst each other. Tohru only wished that one day the boys would start to get along. Hana and Uo soon left to go home. Hana had to look after her younger brother Megumi and Uo had to get to her job. Tohru waved goodbye and then turned back to Kyo and Haru.
“You've gotten even stronger since our last fight, Kyo. You won today,” Haru said.
Kyo said nothing. He had been training hard so that his master would be proud of him, but he knew that his master wouldn't want him fighting for stupid causes. After the events of the previous month, Kyo realized how much Kazuma Sohma meant to him. Kazuma had treated him like a son when his mother had feared him and the rest of the family ridiculed him for being the cat. They were a family and both of them shared a tight bond with the other. He knew his `father' wouldn't want him to fight for stupid reasons.
“Forget it, I'm as worn as you. Let's just go home.”
Tohru smiled and clasped her hands together. Kyo was trying to get along with Haru even when they had just had a physical fight. Haru rose with a smile on his face.
“Come on, Momiji. Hatori will want you to come strait back to the house and I think he should have a look at a few of my bruises. Let's go,” Haru said as they left the roof.
Yuki followed them, knowing he had a student council meeting to run.
“I'll be back at the house late so don't worry,” he told Tohru before he left.
Tohru turned back to Kyo who was getting off the ground.
“Come on, let's go home Tohru. Not a word to Shigure about the fight, I don't need to hear his mouth right now.”
“OK,” Tohru said as they both gathered the things from the roof and the classroom before changing their shoes and walk back to the house.
”Welcome home, you two. How was school?” Shigure asked as he hung out of the doorway to his study.
Kyo walked passed him and up the stairs.
“Oh Kyo, you are so cruel. Tohru how was your day?”
“It was Ok.”
“How did your picnic go?”
“We had a really good time. Everyone liked the food and then we played Rich Man, Poor Man.”
“Well, I'm glad. You deserve to have a good time with your friends and not have those boys fighting. How it pains my heart when they fight in front of you? It's so cruel.”
Tohru smiled and left Shigure to put her bag upstairs. When she passed by Kyo's room, she noticed that his door was open, but he wasn't in sight.
He probably went to the roof. I wonder if he needs any bandages or if he's hungry. He used up all that energy while fighting.
Tohru quickly changed into regular clothes and grabbed her first aid kit before going downstairs to make a snack for Kyo. She made some rice balls and carried them and the first aid kit to the roof. Sure enough, Kyo laid there staring at the sky.
“I thought you might be up here.”
He rolled over to look at her before sitting up.
“What do you want?”
“I thought that you might be hungry and I brought a first aid kit in case you needed it.”
“Thanks,” he said as he took the plate of rice balls and the first aid kit from her so that she could finish climbing up the ladder.
“Thank you Kyo.”
“Uh, it's no problem.”
He helped himself to one of the rice balls. They sat there in silence for a few minutes, before Kyo decided to speak.
”I'm sorry that I caused so much trouble today. You stayed out of class today so that you would make sure that I was Ok. I know you made a promise to your mom that you would graduate and sitting out of class doesn't help.”
“I wanted to stay. I could have left and gone to class, but I wanted to make sure that you and Haru were Ok. Besides, mom always said that close friends are the most valuable assets that we can have in this life and they would be cherished and cared for.”
Kyo looked at her and smiled. She was really special.
“You're really something, you know that?”
She smiled as they continued to talk. Soon it was time for her to climb down and make dinner.
“Are you feeling a bit better now, Kyo?”
“Yeah, I'm all right. Thanks Tohru.”
