Just as Mustang had planned Edward met Mary after school everyday for the rest of the week. Everyday they went somewhere of amusement before Ed returned Mary to Mustang. Ed felt bad that he was lying to Mary about all the things he knew. But secretly he was glad that he had been assigned this duty, partly because it was better than any other job they would have assigned him. And he was beginning to take a personal liking to Mary. He spent the entire day looking forward to seeing her everyday after school; he even got her school an hour early on Wednesday, just to make sure she wouldn’t think he wasn’t coming. And Mary just went along with it not knowing that everything she did and said was reported right back to Mustang. And after the school week was over Mary still had Saturday and Sunday until her brother would come to pick her up on Sunday night. So just like the school week Edward was with her except it would be for all day and truthfully Ed had no problem with it, and he went along like it was no big thing.
Saturday had come and Edward was planning on surprising Mary with a trip to the fair. He waited for her outside HQ hoping that she would like his idea of a day at the fair. He smiled when he saw her approaching from inside the building, but ended up having to force it when he saw her being escorted by Mustang and Hawkeye (his problem mostly was Mustang)
“Hi Ed!” Mary greeted pulling Ed into a light hug. When she pulled away she didn’t notice that Ed was blushing very hard at her affection, of which Ed was very grateful for. But Mustang and Hawkeye however, they took notice.
“Elric where are you and Mary going this evening?” Mustang asked raising an eyebrow at the crimson boy.
“Well I was going to surprise Mary with a trip to the fair that’s going on today down in the fields” Ed replied smiling at Mary. Mustang however really did not like this idea, but when he saw the excitement on Mary’s face he forced himself to comply.“Where is this? And when will you be back? Who is the establi-?” Mustang began but was cut off by Mary who had become quite irritated with his constant questioning and complete lack of faith in her.“Mustang! Ed isn’t going to lead me into harms way! You need to trust his judgment. And mine. Plus I really want to go!” Mary said putting on a little sad face in which she had learned in the short time she was there would ensure her getting her way with Mustang and just about everyone else. Mustang just groaned then waved his hand to excuse them. When he did this the two turned and began to walk away from the building in a fat pace as to make sure he could not change his mind and stop them. Mustang and Hawkeye both stood there watching when all of a sudden Ed slipped his hand into Mary’s. Apparently he was unaware that he was still in view of the two adults. When they had traveled out of their line of vision Mustang turned to Hawkeye to see her smiling!“Hawkeye, what is your assessment of the situation?” he questioned the First Lieutenant eyeing her strange behavior.
“ He likes her, and if my female instincts are correct she likes him back.” Hawkeye replied looking to Mustang, whose expression did not change as to match his thoughts.
“Well she will be leaving tomorrow. As you know that will be of disappointment to me, but it will separate the two. I’m sure you can agree that a girl like Mary doesn’t need a boy like Ed” Mustang declared.
“If I may speak so boldly sir, I think they do need each other. Think, they have both suffered great loses in their life and now with Alphonse with not long ago having gotten his body back and Mary’s life finally taking shape again they can bound back together, they can relate in a way most people can’t. Just saying sir I think you’re dead wrong” Hawkeye replied turning and walking away leaving Mustang alone.

“So Ed what are we gonna do first?” Mary asked excitedly as they entered the grounds for the fair. Edward was paying the fee while Mary’s eyes darted around at all the sights.
“Well we could play some games if you want” Ed replied walking towards her with the tickets in hand.“Okay!” Mary agreed smiling as Ed led her towards the game booths. He was amused by her childish delight in everything she saw. He had never seen anyone act like that before, except for Nina when he had taken her to the fair, for the first time. He then thought.
“Mary have you ever been to a fair before?” Ed asked her. Mary turned to him and her smile somewhat faded. He knew the answer.
“No I haven’t, I’ve lived in the country all my life, and I’ve only left once or twice. I’ve never been to a place like this.” Mary replied looking somewhat defeated.
“Oh well then I’m glad I brought you here today then” Ed said which brought her smile back.“I’m glad it was you who brought me here” Mary said smiling just as big as she had been before. Ed then smiled back and led her to the booths.“Knock over the bottles you get any prize you see here” the man at the booth said advertising the game that he stood with. Ed looked towards Mary who nodded in approval. Ed then gave the man the required amount of tickets and then received the balls that he would have to throw at the bottles as to knock them over. Ed took one into his right arm and was then stopped by the man that was in charge of the booth.“No using automail limbs for throwing” the man stated threateningly.“But I suck with my left arm” Ed groaned. He was surprised to see Mary then take the ball from him. The man at the booth just laughed.
“Look little girl, I suggest you leave these things to the men” the moan stated arrogantly. Mary just smiled at him then brought her arm back then lurched the ball at the bottles knocking every one of them over. The man just stared at the spot where the bottles once were with an open mouth until she spoke up.“What did I win?” Mary said smiling plainly at him. The man gave her a sour smile then handed her probably the largest stuffed animal known to mankind. A very large pink crocodile. Mary then began to walk away followed by Ed.
“That was a good throw” Ed complimented her, she only smiled and opened her mouth to say something but didn’t cause she stopped and stared into the sky as something lurched from the ground.
