Eye of the Beholder

Xandyr stopped walking up the steps, her eyes drifting upward. A white feather drifted down in front of her eyes. She reached out her hand, catching it in mid-air. She looked up, catching a glimpse of platinum hair. Her heartbeat sped up. Venkia knew where she was again. Xandyr was calm about how she walked up the remaining steps. When she opened the door, Edward greeted her with a soft kiss on the cheek and a single white rose.
“What's this for?” She asked gently. He shrugged.
“Just for.” After pulling her inside the room and closing the door, he ran a hand through her hair, their eyes meeting intensely. “So, have a nice talk with Winry?”
“Yeah. She told me some things I didn't know about you. About your childhood, among other things.”
“I thought that a guardian angel was supposed to know everything about the person they're watching.” He said it more as a statement just above a whisper, his lips mere centimeters from her own lips. She smiled.
“They are but I'm not exactly caught up on your past. She helped a great deal, though. She told me that even when you were a kid you used to have a bad temper about anyone picking on your height.” Edward slightly threw his back and lightly laughed.
“Yeah, she would say that, wouldn't she?”
“I met her husband.” Ed suddenly became rigid again. “He's a good man. He's good for her, Edward.” She ran her fingertips over his cheeks and outlined his lips while staring into his golden eyes.
“It's funny. I never thought I'd be good enough for her…and neither was anyone else.”
“You're good enough; you just have to believe it.” She kissed the tip of his nose, a smile on her lips. “I love you, so much you can't even imagine.”
“Yes I can. I love you the same.” Xandyr wanted to let her own tears fall. She knew that Venkia knew where she was and most likely why she was there. If he knew that, he most likely knew that Edward knew of her existence. If he did…the end of her being Ed's guardian would be coming soon. Her heartbeat sped up as tears fled to her eyes. She quickly looked down hoping that Edward hadn't caught sight of the moisture in her eyes. Too late. “What's wrong?” Xandyr shook her head quickly. “Liar. What's wrong? Did I do something wrong?” She shook her head again. He hooked his fingers under her chin and raised her head so that she was facing him in his eyes. A few tears ran down her face. He wiped them away, the hardness leaving his golden eyes replaced by what used to exist there when Al had been alive…caring, genuine love.
“You haven't done anything to me. You haven't done anything wrong.” She looked slightly to the side of him at the balcony that was slowly becoming enveloped in the coming night. “The angel lord, Venkia, knows I'm here.” She looked at him again. “Do you remember me telling you that you weren't supposed to know of my existence? I think he knows we've actually met. My title of guardian angel might be revoked in the near future.” Ed looked down, sadness filling his eyes. He met her eyes again, trying his hardest to banish the sadness for her sake.
“But we haven't slept--”
“It doesn't matter anymore. They know you know of me. That's all I need to never see you again.” A fresh batch of tears fell from her eyes. Edward let them run down to his fingertips and wiped them away, kissing her lips softly. He slid his arms around her waist, pulling her close to him. She wrapped her own arms around his neck, kissing the skin of his neck that rested under his golden hair. Once again, her body reached out for his. She wanted to deny it but then again, she might never get the chance to hold him again.
Without words, she trailed her lips from his neck to his chest. She slipped the coat off his shoulders and then the red shirt until he wore the black vest. She felt a shiver run through his back and looked up into his eyes. He didn't need words to know what ran through her mind. She shrugged out of her own trench coat, letting it fall to the floor around her feet. Next he slowly unbuttoned her vest running his hands down the front of the peasant's blouse.
He unbuckled her belt as she unbuckled his. His vest came next and for a moment, Xandyr stopped to kiss his chest, running her fingers over the area that, eight years ago, was metal. Catching her hands, he kissed each of her fingertips in turn not taking his eyes from hers. She only smiled as he let go of her hands and slowly began unbuttoning her blouse. Her heart beat faster and faster the lower he went. With each button undone, a small portion of her was revealed to him.
Ed pulled the shirt from where it was tucked between her flat stomach and tight-fitting pants on her waist. As the shirt hang open for him to see, he was taken aback that she had an innocent air about her. Her skin looked fresh and untouched by any hands; her lips looked unkissed before him. Before going any farther on her shirt, his hands found their way to her hips, slowly sliding the pants down her soft, round curves. Slowly, he sank to the floor, taking her pants down with him until finally she stepped out of them. As he stood back up, he ran his lips up her stomach, breasts, and neck, finally finding her lips again.
Xandyr pushed him backward gently, the both of them walking toward the bed in the middle of the room. His hands slid up under her thighs, lifting her up so her legs could wrap around his waist. She put her arms back around his neck and bending down into him for a kiss. He turned around, gently laying her on the bed only to toss the sides of her shirt aside. Xandyr reached down between her legs to unfasten his pants and ease them down his hips. Edward couldn't help but smile.
Xandyr slipped her arms from the sleeves of her shirt as Ed pushed his pants down, finally stepping out of them and pulling off his shoes. He then pulled off her shoes, running his hands down her legs and stopping right where her thighs met. She squirmed lightly at a man being so close to her innocence…the innocence Edward didn't know existed. He reached up behind her, unhooking her bra and bringing the straps around, slipping them from her shoulders. He moved the thin cloth from her, putting only two pieces of clothing between them. Bringing her legs together, he slipped her underwear off and finally slipped his own off.
Edward positioned himself at her center, looking over her body. Xandyr moved her legs on either side of him, closing her eyes feeling her face become hot. He slipped inside her, pushing gently deeper and deeper until a barrier stopped him. His eyes widened.
“Xandyr, is there something you forgot to mention to me?” Edward asked.
“Um…I'm a virgin.” Xandyr whispered. Ed pulled her up to sit on his lap, grasping her hands tightly. He pulled her close for a kiss as he broke through the barrier receiving a small whine from her. Pulling the blankets back, he laid her down on the sheets and pulled them up around the both of them. He began moving in and out over her. She gasped while arching to him. Not being able to control her power anymore, her wings went from transparent visible. She wrapped them around Edward, making a canopy of feathers over them. He put his hands on her hips guiding her.

A knock on the room door brought him to consciousness. He rubbed his eyes, looking around the room. Xandyr lie sleeping on him, both her arms outstretched to her sides just like her wings. She lay on her stomach breathing softly. Her hair hung like a curtain over her face. The knock came again but more persistent this time.
“Edward. I need to speak with you.” It was Mustang. “Edward!” Ed stroked her face and hair and slipped from underneath her. He quickly pulled on his pants while walking to the door. When he opened it, Mustang walked in without saying anything more. When he saw Xandyr lying asleep on the bed, he stopped and turned around. “Maybe this is a bad time.”
“No. Better just tell me now.” He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed while Mustang took a chair across the room.
“A strange man came over this morning. He was looking for Xandyr and he didn't exactly look friendly.” Ed looked down, remembering what Xandyr had said the previous night about the angels revoking her title. “He asked me where she was and who she was with. I told him that I didn't know where she was and last I saw she wasn't with anyone but I think he saw right through it. I also think he already knew.” Mustang noticed the faraway look in Ed's eyes. “What's going on, Edward?”
“Last night Xandyr said she thought the head angel lord knew where she was and she was worried they would revoke her title as guardian angel.”
“I said I knew he knew where I was.” Xandyr said, resting her cheek on her hand. “Get it straight.” She smiled getting a smile in reply.
“Do you think you're in any danger, Xandyr?” She turned over, pulling the blanket close to her chest and sitting up.
“If they find out what happened last night…yes. They wouldn't like me interact with mortals and they would banish me for sleeping with one.” Ed looked down shamefully. “I didn't tell you, Edward, because I was afraid I'd never get that chance again. I knew you would deny yourself just to save me.”
“The second you jumped into the river to save my life, you risked your own. It would have been the least I could do.”
“Yes, but neither one of us wanted me to save you even though I did. Both of us wanted last night.” Edward looked away again.
“Look, I have somewhere to be.” Mustang stood up, looking at the couple. “If you need anything, including train tickets, give me a call or stop by. I'll supply you with whatever I can.” Edward stood up and shook Mustang's hand.
“Thank you, Roy. Thank you for everything.” Mustang nodded and turned to leave the room.
“Roy.” He stopped and turned to look at Xandyr. “May the Heavens guide you.” He smiled.
“I wish I could say the same.” He then turned back around, leaving the room.
“So…what now?” Ed asked turning to face Xandyr.
“How about you help me out of this bed so I can take a bath?” They smiled. Ed hooked his hands around her, lifting her up into his arms and carrying her to the bathroom.

Venkia rested his chin in his hand. He looked across the table at Death in the form of a black angel, as they were called. He wasn't a demon but wasn't an angel. The black angel, Zaine, had been banished years ago for taking the life of another angel. After spending years on the mortal plain, his wings became black and he became Death. Now, he was the only way Venkia would ever find who Xandyr was with.
“So, it is a `he' who she's with.”
“Yes. I believe that she saved his life a few times. Last I saw of her, she was at a hospital with him about a week ago.”
“Do you expect me to believe that?”
“Yes. It's true.” Venkia stared deeply into Zaine's eyes. Inside rested the truth he sought.
“Thank you.” He rose to his feet, walked from the diner and turned the corner. Zaine breathed a sigh of relief. It was hard to lie to someone who could read eyes so he'd gotten as close to the truth as he could without saying what he already knew. Xandyr was in love with that mortal man. By now, she had to have given herself to him. Zaine bowed his head knowing the consequence for something looked at to be so vial to the angels. He looked up again and looked around the town. Xandyr was here but he had yet to see her. He knew she was with him, somewhere. He could only hope that Venkia never found her. The punishment for sleeping with a mortal was death or banishment. An angel who knew their Heaven well was put to death so they could never tell the stories of what they knew. Hopefully, Venkia had an inch of mercy and just banished the child. Who knew? Maybe if she was banished, she would stay with him. It was thought impossible for a mortal to truly love an angel but maybe he did. Maybe it would be a happy ending after all. Just maybe.
