Ed sat beside Lilly as she slept. It was early in the morning. After he broke the news to Lilly yesterday he had been by her side. He asked Winry and Al to watch Rika so he and Lilly could have some time together. Once he told Lilly the news, he cuddled up beside her and held as she cryed untill she fell asleep. He stayed awake the whole night watching her and hopeing that she would show some sign of adjusting to her new body without her powers. But nothing happened. So here he was, holding her close against his chest as she slept. He kissed the top of her head and she moved a little. The sun would be rising at any moment now and she would wake. He wanted her to sleep and get as much rest as her body could. She began to wake and Ed looked down at her. Before she opened her eyes, Ed began to sing. He sung a song his mother use to sing to Al and him when they couldn't sleep. Lilly's body settled down as Ed's singing hit her ears. Ed pulled her closer and she began to breath evenly once more. Ed continued to sing as tears of fear fell from his eyes. In a way, the singing brought him comfort as well. many night mares when she sung this song. Ed didn't even noticed Lilly had fallen back to sleep. He was busy singing and thinking of what he would do without her. He couldn't imagen a life without her in it. In his future, he saw her. She was healthy and happy. How could it change so fast? What had he done wrong that could alter his future? He thought of Al's words. One small thing could alter one persons whole future, but he couldn't think of anything he had done to make something go wrong. Al was right, your not meant to see the future for a reason. Ed now knew that.

Al opened his eyes when he thought he heard his mother's voice. He looked at the door and listened hard. Then he heard it. Ed's voice. He was singing a song that his and Ed's mother use to sing. Al smiled at the memories and closed his eyes. "
He's really worried about her. I know he hasn't slep all night. He's singing to her. That song brought us such comfort, I almost forgot all about it. Lilly needs those words. She needs the comfort. I can still hear her voice cry out when Ed told her the bad news. All she wanted to do was be held and told that it wasn't true. I didn't think she would ever stop crying. Winry cryed all night as well. I don't know what to do. Now that Rika is in our room, I have to be aware of eveything around me to protect her if anything should happen.
Al turned his body to his side and met Winry's face. She was sleeping and had her eyes tightly shut. He brushed her cheek and her eyes flew open. Al smiled at her. Winry's lip began to quiver. She flew into his chest to muffle her crys as her tears fell. Al held her and rubbed her back.
She's still in pain. Lilly had became one of her closes friends. She moans already.
Before Al knew it, he too was singing his mothers song. Winry looked up at him. She knew that song. She had heard Ed hum it many times whne they were younger. Al closed his eyes and sung gently. Winry layed her head back down and let silent tears fall on their own. She closed her eyes and fisted Al's shirt as he sung.

When Rika turned a week old, Ed brought her back to sleep in the same room as Lilly and him. Lilly had demanded it and Ed wouldn't argue for fear that she might get to upset and end up out of breath once again. Ed had Dr. Mile over each day to check on Lilly and report any changes on her. But each time, Dr. Mile would say the same thing: it's to difficult to tell. He made sure to tell Ed each day to let Lilly get plenty of rest. Soon, she two was like a baby. Sleeping all day. That's all she could do. That's all her body would let her do.
Ed would stay close to her and open the windows in the room so she could see the sky and green trees. When she was awake she would stare out the window and Ed would always know that she longed to be out there. She asked him many times to take Rika outside to see the flowers and the sun, but Ed always told her that Rika was to young to e out, and he would only take her if Lilly was with her. He always used the phrase 'Once you get better....' to make it seem that there was no dout that she was going to get better. Not once did he talk as if she was dieing, not even when he was talking about her to others.
Before Ed had brought Rika back to their room, he noticed Lilly was sleeping less and eating more. She began to talk more and smile, even though it was weak. She even began to pick out funiture for their home. She made sure to write down everything she liked and had Ed take Al with him to go get what she wanted. Then she told him o go ahead and put it their new home. Ed didn't want to get his hopes up, but the sight of seeing her like this was slowly macking him feel like she was going to get better for sure. Once he did bring Rika back, Lilly showed more signs of getting better. She wouldn't let Rika feed for a bottle unless she wasn't around. She would talk to her and tell her all about the things she has seen and what Rika would oneday see. Of coarse, Ed knew that Lilly understood that Rika didn't understand her, but the thought of Lilly talking more and getting better was enough to make him keep his mouth shut about it.
In the middle of the second week Rika had been in their lives, Ed came upstairs to check on Lilly. To his surprise he heard her voice singing as he came to the door. He paused outside of it and waited. She was singing the very song he had song her the morning after he told her the news. He smiled and opened the door. Lilly was dressed in her white dress with her hair pulled into a half pony tail and a white ribbon. She was sitting in a rocking chair holding Rika and rocking while infront of an open window. She was singing and staring at Rika while the breeze hit her face and sweeped her long hair. Ed gasped. This was the first time she had been out of bed without his help and fully dressed at that. He couldn't see her whole face because she was turned half to him, but he could she that she was smiling. Ed walked in and Lilly kept singing. He stood behind her and looked at Rika. For the first time ever, Rika was smiling. Ed let a small tear of joy fall from his face and it hit Lilly's shoulder. She looked up at him and stoped singing. Her smile disappeared.
"Edward....I just wanted to hold her for a minute...." She explained guiltly.
Ed shook his head. He had told her never to pick Rika up without him watching or suppervising ust incase she suddenly passed out.
"It's alright. I'm just glad you look ok. How are you feeling?" Ed asked stroking her cheek.
"I'm fine. I feel like I just took a long nap and now I feel refreshed. I'm glad your not mad at me. I ust had to hold her. I haven't really been able to." Lilly said looking at the still smiling baby.
"She's smiling for the first time." Ed saidlooking at Rika. "She's she beautiful. You are too." Lilly blushed. Ed smiled to himself. "I'm going to call the doctor to come and do another check up. I want to make sure your fine." Ed said.
Lilly smiled at him. He kissed her on the cheek and then kissed Rika on he blond head. He left the door open as he headed for the phone. Al and Winry came running in. Lilly looked up with happiness to see her friends and confussed at their excitment.
"Ed told us that you were feeling better!" Winry cryed out and ran over to Lilly.
"I am." Lilly confermed.
"That's great." Al said and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Ed alson told us that the baby smiled for the first time. Can we see?" He added with a sparkle in his eye.
"Of coarse." Lilly smiled and looked down at Rika who was still smiling at her mother.
Both said 'awwww' at the same time.
"I bet she's smiling because she knows her mother is all better." Winry said and touched the baby's small cheek.
"Thanks, Winry. That means alot to me." Lilly said.
Twenty minutes later Ed let the doctor in. He did his normal check up on both mother and baby, then turned to smile at everyone.
"She's adjusted. She now a normal human and so is Rika." Dr. Mile said smiling.
Lilly's eyes lite up. Ed rushed to her and kissed her lips. He had longed to do that for a long time now. Mustang allowed Al to plan a small party. Lilly mentioned it being at their new home since Ed and her had almost finished decorating it the way they wanted. Ed had been there and seen how it was and asured Lilly it was the way she wanted. It was built the same way as his and Al's house had been before they burned it down. The only thing different was the things Lilly wanted in them. Pretty much, the house was ready to be moved into. Lilly held Rika close as Ed agreed that it was ok to move in.

The next day, Ed, Al, Mutang, Havoc, and Armstrong moved all of the baby stuff into Rika's room. Lilly walked in her home and gave Rika to Ed and ran to check out the house. Winry and Riza were right behind her, looking at all the rooms and the funiture Lilly had picked out. Lilly ran to Ed and jumped up and down as she tryed to get out words that came out in excited noises. Ed just laught and nodded like he understood. Al brought all the guest over and they had a party full of music drinks and laughter. Lilly listened as Mustang told stories about Ed and Al's missions that somehow ended up with them causing troubled and him having to write long reports to cover for them. Ed only laughted and scratched the back of his head. Al tryed to hind his blush as Winry giggled at the stories.
The night went on untill Rika began cranky and Ed told everyone it was time for them to go. Mustang told him not to be late for work the next morning since he was behind in his paper work. Ed smiled and assured him that he wouldn't. That made Mustang dout him and then he turned to Lilly and asked her not to let 'shorty' be late. Lilly giggled and nodded as Ed screamed at Mustang for his name calling. Lilly closed and locked the door behind Mustang and slowly picked up Rika. She walked upstairs to the nursery and rocked her in the rocking chair while she breast feed her. Ed watched from the door way and smiled. Once Rika was done feeding, Lilly looked up at Ed who usually burped her. Ed walked over to Lilly and showed her how to do it and Lilly watched and learned so she would be able to do it while Ed was at work. He showed Lilly how to change her dipers then put her to bed and Lilly smiled as he kissed baby Rika on the cheek. Lilly did the same and Rika moved a little, but didn't wake.
"How will we know if she crys?" Lilly asked with a worried look on.
Ed held up two baby monitors. He explained how to use them and what they are used for. Lilly nodded.
"Tommorow and anytime I'm not here, you take this monitor with you all over the house while Rika's asleep." Ed said as they walked to their room.
Lilly nodded and opened their room door. She walked in and looked back at Ed who was looking around the room. She smiled at him.
"This was my mother's room. It's weird being in here when it looks so different and knowing that she died in this room." Ed said looking the place up and down.
"But, Ed, this wasn't the room she died in, this only looks like it." Lilly said grabing his hands and pulling him in.
Ed smiled at her and he knew she was right, but still...it did feel weird. Lilly pulled him to bed after they got into their pj's. She kissed his bare chest. Ed moaned and fliped her over. He was above her now. He kissed her neck and sent shivers down her spine. Slowly Ed began to take her night gown off.
Outside their window, in a tree stood Envy. He smiled big as she watched Ed and Lilly.
Go ahead. Enjoy what you have now, Fullmetal. Make her wish she had more as she screams your name. Because tommorow you won't have her any longer. Tommorow she will die. And you will be there to watch. This time, you won't be able to save her. This time, she won't come back.
Envy let out an evil laugh before jumping out of the tree and heading into the woods. His mind ran with the plans he had set out for tommorow. He had been watching Lilly's everymove. He knew she was powerless, which meant, to him.....easy killing.
