It was early. Too early for someone in his house to be awake. It sounded like rain but upon further inspection it was just the shower. He rolled over and opened his pocket watch that sat on the bedside table. 6 Am. damn how could she get up so early? He rolled back over and covered his head with a pillow. He didn't have to go into work until 9 so he went back to sleep. But he couldn't. He tossed again when he heard the shower stop. He heard the mismatch sound of someone walking down the hall. That wasn't right, as far as he knew Jay didn't have automail. So when curiosity got the better of him he slipped on his pants (because he sleeps nude) and cracked the door to get a better look. Jay was toweling off her hair and was wearing very short shorts and a tube top. He saw her right leg. From the bottom of the knee down was automail. She hid it so well with her boots that he hadn't noticed before. They were tall lace up boots that just covered the knee. She opened the guestroom door and disappeared behind it. When she came back out she was wearing socks as not to disturb Roy's sleep and headed downstairs with a book in her hand. Roy fought with himself whether or not he should go downstairs and ask her about it but he decided against it and went back to bed.

At seven thirty he couldn't sleep anymore. The smell of bacon and eggs drifted into his nostrils. He climbed out of bed and put on a clean uniform. When he went downstairs he saw that Jay had forgotten to put her boots on but was still wearing her socks. She was so engrossed in the book she was reading she didn't notice him come in and pour himself a cup of coffee. He looked over at he and saw that she had made him breakfast as well but she had none.

 

“What happened to your leg?” He asked. She jumped so high he thought she was going to have a heart attack. She looked at him like a deer caught in the headlights. She looked down at her legs and tried her best to cover it up.

 

“It's alright, you don't have to hide it from me, I don't mind.” He said as he sat down beside her. She lowered her head and put the book she was reading down.

 

“It happened before I made my way to Xing.” She told him. When she looked up amber gazed into onyx.

 

“I got hit by a car in Rush Valley. A really nice man named Dominique made this leg for me.” She told him.

“Why did you go to Rush Valley? You were only 12 at the time right?” he asked her.

 

“11 actually, I went there searching for a boy named Ling, he's from Xing.” She told him.

 

“I found him and we became good friends. That's when he offered to take me to Xing with him to learn Xingian Alchemy.” She told him.

 

“By the way, I was wondering if I could go to work with you today, you know to get an idea of how I'm going to be living the rest of my life?” She asked him and he laughed.

 

“Why not, you made me breakfast, how can I say no to that?” He smiled.

 

“And tonight I'll let you have a pair of my gloves and we can start practicing,” He told her. She smiled.

 

“That would be great... one problem…I can't go to Central HQ wearing this.” She told him. He smiled and went to his closet. He pulled out one of his old uniforms from when he was a major.

 

“See if this fits,” He said as he handed the uniform to her. He took it into the bathroom to change. When she came back out Roy gasped.

 

“You look great in uniform,” He said with a devious smile on his face.

 

“Rule number one,” She said as she raised a finger and waved it in front of him.

 

“Fine we have to go I'm going to be late for work.” Roy said as he pulled her out the door.

Eyes. They were looking at her. All of them from SG Furry to even Hawkeye. She felt a little strange and walking a few steps behind Roy and didn't noticed that he had stopped until she ran into him.

 

“Sorry,” she apologized.

 

“That's alright, what do you plan on doing for the day? Sitting and watching me sign papers isn't a fun thing to do.” He said as he turned around to look at her. She sighed and showed him the book she had earlier and her journal.

 

“How…when?” he asked baffled. He knew he drug her out before she could get anything.

 

“The Xingian art, it's called the way of the Ninja. I can sneak into anywhere and steal anything with out you even noticing. She held up on of his gloves as proof. He was amazed. She had taken his glove off his hand without him noticing.

 

“You should head up investigations,” he joked. She rolled her eyes at him and gave him back his glove forcefully as she walked passed him into his office.

 

The next few hours passed in silence. Roy busy with his work and Jay reading and making notes in her journal. Then lunch came and Roy looked at the clock on the wall.

 

“Are you hungry? It's lunch time,” He asked. She looked up from her book and smiled.

 

“Sure, I could use something to eat.” She said as she sat her book down and closed her journal. She stuck the journal in her pant's pocket as she stood up and stretched.

 

“The lunches here are not that bad, if you like we could go to the Café across the street.” He suggested and she shook her head.

 

“No, here's fine,” she said as she looked into his eyes like she was challenging him to break rule number one. They walked to the Mess Hall in silence. Once there they saw just about everyone eating. All but Edward. Jay looked around to see if she could find that short brother of hers but she didn't see him.

 

“Where's Ed?” She asked him.

 

“I don't know, he probably slept in again,” He said and pretended mock anger until Jay grabbed him by the sleeve and pulled him to the line. She chose something simple. Tomato soup and some vegetables and Roy got some of the Beef Raman.

 

“You don't eat very much,” Roy said as he looked at her tray. She grabbed a glass of milk and walked out to one of the empty tables. He sat down with her and she looked at him.

 

“If I rush into eating Amestrian food, I'll get sick and you don't want that do you?” He smiled.

 

“True,” Roy agreed. She slowly ate her food as Roy watched amazed. Jay and Edward's eating habits were completely different. Then he noticed the milk.

 

“So you do drink milk.” He said as a statement rather than a question.

 

“Helps build strong bones, prevents breakage, Vitamin D.” She said as she nibbled at some of the carrots on her tray.

 

“Ed hates milk, that's probably why he's so short.” She told him then smiled.

 

“But the main reason for that is it's in the genes.” Roy made a confused face and Jay laughed.

 

“Genes? What are you talking about?” Roy asked her.

 

“Alright let me explain, take myself for example. My mother had brown hair and green eyes. My father had blonde hair and golden eyes. Both of the genetics for eye color are recessive traits because both colors are light. Brown hair color is dominate because it is dark. My mother's mother had blonde hair so she passed that gene through my mother to me. That's why my hair is blonde. Eye color. You usually get your eye color from your father in some instances but remember all of this is random.” Roy was completely confused but he understood somewhat.

 

“Alphonse took after our father in height and Edward and I took after our mother. But Alphonse took after our mother more for his hair and eye color.”

 

“Where did you learn this from?” Roy asked her amazed.

 

“A Dr. Washington did some experiments with pea plants, I read his research. Xing gets a lot of foreign material from all over the place.” She told him as she took a sip of her soup. Roy stared at her for a moment and then laughed.

 

“Prodigy, all three of you are geniuses,” He laughed.

 

<i>That's what I like about you. You're smart and you're beautiful.</i> He thought to himself.

 

“Why are you staring at me like that?” She asked him and he snapped out of musing to see that she was blushing madly at him.

 

“Because you're beautiful,” He answered her. She looked like a deer caught in the headlights of a speeding car her face turned a bright red and she kept looking at him speechless. She tried to say something but everything she tried to say got lost in the way from her brain to her lips.

 

“God Roy! Rule Number Fucking One!” She shouted at him causing all the eyes in the Mess Hall to stare at her. She blushed and put her hands on her face.

 

“I hate you,” she said lowly almost inaudible. Roy flinched inwardly.

 

<i>I'm pushing too hard…I have to watch myself.</i> He thought to himself.

 

After lunch Jay walked back in silence not two feet behind him. He could have sworn she was swearing in Xingian but he wasn't sure. She was talking too lowly.

 

“Hey watch where you're going!” a voice picked up from in front of him. He had knocked someone down in his musing. The blonde hair said it all. It was Edward.

 

“Fullmetal, you're late as always,” He said with a smirk on his face.

 

“I wasn't supposed to come in today remember?” He said as he got up and dusted himself off.

 

“That's right, he came here to pick me up,” Jay informed Roy.

 

“Alright, fine. Go spend time with your sister and report in tomorrow no later than 10:00 hours.” Roy told him as Jay grabbed him and pulled him out the door.

 

“Where the hell did you get that uniform?” Edward asked as they exited the gates of Central Headquarters.

 

“Roy gave it to me, say you should wear them they are really comfortable though they don't look it.” Edward huffed at this and pulled her to the side.

 

“Why are you letting him manipulate you like that?” Edward asked her and she frowned.

 

“Edward,” Ed stiffened, ready for the serious conversation he was getting ready to have with his sister. She never called him Edward unless she was either mad at him or she was very serious.

 

“I don't let anybody manipulate me. Especially not that womanizing man whore.” She told him. The look in her eyes told him so.

 

“Fine, just watch yourself ok? Now where do you want to go?” He asked her.

 

“I want to go shopping, you can use new clothes,” she laughed at him.

 

“You mean you need new clothes, my clothes are fine.” He said with a warning in his voice.

 

“EDO!!!” she pleaded with him and he sighed. He was always a sucker for his little sister.

 

“Fine but you first,” He regretted those words as she drug him off to a clothes store.

 

After trying on about a million things she finally settled for four pairs of pants that were all leather and four tank tops. She settled on button up shirts to go overtop of them. They were navy blue or white. Edward paid for them because she forgot her money at Roy's place. Then the moment Edward Elric the Fullmetal Alchemist feared the most came and he almost ran out of the store.

 

“Your turn Edo!” She smiled at him and pulled him over to the men's section. She picked out a navy blue long sleeve hoddie and put it up to his chest.

 

“You look good in navy, I think you should get this one,” She said as she handed it to him. He sighed and looked at the front. It had hand embroidered designs on the front and he had to admit, he liked it. He sighed again and Jay giggled.

 

“I knew you'd like it.” She said as she went through some more shirts. She picked out four pars of slacks and three shirts that weren't black and made him try them on. After purchasing the clothes that he thought there was no way of knowing how Jay knew he liked them they walked out of the store with bags in their hands.

 

“Can we go somewhere else that doesn't have to do with clothes?” Edward asked as disdainfully as he could but was unsuccessful. Jay knew he rather enjoyed her company so she pulled him into a bookstore. As Edward browsed through the Alchemy section Jay went through the novels. She picked one up and was going to show Edward when she ran into someone.

 

“Watch where you're going pipsqueak.” The stranger said and she looked up to see who had said it because she knew that she recognized them.

 

“Russell!” she said throwing her arms around him. He had short blonde hair that covered one of his eyes and they were crystal blue.

 

“I thought I heard you, get your hands off of her you leach!” Edward growled at the Tringham boy.

 

“Brother?” a slightly high voice asked and Edward turned to see Russell's little brother Fletcher. Fletcher was a smaller version of the elder Tringham but he was almost as tall as his brother.

 

“For your information she hugged me, and I know her.” Russell spat at Edward. Edward was about to start shouting cuss words when Jay got in between both of them and raised her hands.

 

“Stop it you two,” She growled. They both froze and looked at the Elric girl.

 

“Edward why don't you go back home,” Jay said with a scowl on her face. At first Edward flinched. Then he walked out the door all the while cursing under his breath.

 

“Fletcher will you go back to the hotel? Jay and I have things to discuss.” Russell asked his little brother. He curtly nodded and walked out the door.

 

“Well long time no see,” Jay said with a frown on her face.

 

“Jay,”

It had just started to rain as Edward made it back to the dorms. He was mad at his sister for not letting him give Russell a piece of his mind and an automail fist. Though as mad as he was at his sister he couldn't help but laugh that she had also scared Russell. He snickered as he lie down on his bed and stared up at the ceiling.

Roy gazed out his window. He was home and was waiting for Edward to drop Jay off from their day of shopping. He walked over to the window and saw that the rain had made it dark outside. Placing is hand on the curtain he looked out and saw that the street was completely dark save the lamp posts that lined its wake. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Jay walking up the road with someone. It wasn't Edward because the blonde was too tall. When they reached Roy's walk she did something that he thought only she had for him. She rose up on the balls of her feet and kissed the blonde deeply. Then and there Roy's heart felt like it had taken a nose dive off of a cliff.

 

<i>I didn't see that coming…</i>
