Fullmetal Alchemist Fan Fiction ❯ The Lovely Bookworm ❯ The Last Ingredient ( Chapter 2 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
(7 Hours Later)

Night was dawning in over the sky, and it was getting dark and late. Sheska was still near the front about bored and tired as ever. Being in the checkout area was such a nuisance to her, she couldn't do anything without any of the employees or better yet the boss catching her slacking off.

"Well 1 more hour to go and then I can get on home...I can't wait!" Sheska said, in agonizing whisper.

It was just so boring staring at these other state alchemist get their books and exit on out. She so much wishes she could exit on out of the library too. Suddenly the sound of the boss was heard coming up, interjecting her from her thoughts.

"Sheska?"

"Oh..Uh yes, Ms. McJill?" Sheska said, quickly getting out of her daze, and turning her full attention to the boss.

"Listen you can take a break now, if you want. I'll take this position. You have been doing a excellent job assisting everyone...I must say."

"Well thank you very much. I appreciate it." Sheska said, happily that she achieved well on being up in the front.

"No thank you. It was pretty crowded in here today, seems all the military personnel’s were searching for something important..." Ms. McJill said, giving off a smile.

"Yeah it does...Well thanks a lot for the break." Sheska said, starting to walk to the back. Until...

"Oh and Sheska since your heading into the back, can you takes these two books with you to the 'Restricted' area room. I meant to put those up myself, but never got around to doing it."

"Oh sure, no problem." Sheska said, with a heartiness smile.

She then takes the books heading for the 'RESTRICTED! Top Research Files & Information' room. As she got near it, she noticed the door was cracked open a little and a light seemed to be shining out of the room. Someone was still in there.

"Now who could be still in here...I know they know we're about to close up." Sheska said, to herself and takes walk up to the door, pushing it forward until the door was completely opened.

Quickly she noticed the familiar blonde haired figure before her and needless to say, he really was going through all those books.

"Oh my god, you’re still in here?" Sheska said, with pure shock. She didn't really think this boy would be serious enough to stay here and actually read all of that. But she thought wrong.

Ed didn't seem to hear her, all that was heard from his mouth was mumbling that was from steadily reading the pages. Sheska could see he was in deep thought with his reading. Nonetheless, he could not be in this library all night.

"Hey listen...Um Ed, was it?"

No response was giving back to her from him, his mind was too focused in on the books laid out before him. Sheska figured he had to be reading and searching through really hard, because all the books were now open and laid out messily over the table.

"What could he possibly be looking for?" Sheska said, in her mind getting even more curious by the min. She then decided again, to try to get his attention. "Hey--"

"Ah ha! I finally found it!" Ed said, in a happy tone.

"Found what?" Sheska said, now really confused.

She noticed he had his hand pointed in the book, moving it as his eyes swarmed the page. Sheska did not noticed this before, but this boy was also wearing white gloves...Why? It was at least 70 degrees outside, how odd. However, she decided to stay quiet, this boy was indeed very mysterious and she didn't want to offend him.

"There something odd about this boy..." Sheska said, through her mind while staring at the boy intently.

As Ed was reading, his expression for one moment was happy. But then suddenly, it started to melt down. His eyes going lower and his mouth turning more into a frown. Something wasn't going right, Sheska could see it.

"Is something wrong?" Sheska questioned, with concern.

As it had been going with Sheska questioning him, he did not answer. Instead, he lowered his head a little, and shut his eyes tightly. It seemed as though whatever he read just now broke his spirit and heart.

"Hey are you going to be alright?" Sheska asked again, about to place her hand on his shoulder to get him out of his stance. However, she didn't need to, because in a instant he got up from the seat he was in and started to head for the door.

"I got to go..." Ed said, now with a depressed voice coming out of him.

"What?...Wait, what happen?" Sheska questioned, totally confused.

The boy still had his head looking to ground, with these blonde bangs covering his eyes, from Sheska seeing them. But when he looked up at her, she noticed these extraordinary golden eyes filled with sorrow and pure sadness.

"I-I just got to leave. Sorry about the mess..." Ed said, his voice even sounded like it was about to crack.

Sheska stared on for a sec and was going to ask him again, until he quickly exited out of the room not saying anything else to her. Sheska went by the doorway, to see the boy now exiting out of the library.

"W-what happen?" Sheska said, now to herself since she was the only one in the area.

She was concern as to why he got glum all of sudden. There must have been something in those books that disturbed him. Sheska didn't take any more chances on it and instead went over near the books (which she specifically went to the one Ed was reading in). She carefully took a look in to noticed the first sentence she seen which was 'The Philosopher Stone'.

"The philosopher stone? Why would he be reading on something like that?" Sheska said, to herself.

She heard around about that stone was forbidden and that no one should try to seek any information on it. The stone brought nothing but deaths all over the world. Nothing good would come out of it. Suddenly she noticed at the bottom of the page, the last sentence that stated 'The last ingredient on making the philosopher stone was...'HUMAN LIVES'. Sheska lets out a gasp when she sees it. No wonder no one seek for the philosopher stone, you had to kill people in order to make it.

"Oh my goodness...But I wonder what this has got to do with him." Sheska said, to herself while looking to the doorway, which was the same direction the boy had ran out of.

[Did get any reviews from the last chapter, but that's alright. I guess it must be that bad (lol). Anywho I decided just for the heck of it, that I will post a chapter everyday. By the way, this story is pretty short, since it's just a one-shot.]
