''Yuki!" Shuichi whined. ''Please come with me!''
Eiri grunted. Couldn't the idiot do anything without him?
''Baka! You know I've got a deadline!"
"So bring your laptop with you," Shu countered. The writer sighed, and Shuichi continued. "Please, Yuki? It's not like you haven't come om tour with us before. And it's only for a few weeks."
Eiri leaned his head back against the soft leather of the couch he was resting on, and closed his eyes in silent contemplation. 'I really should work on that damn novel,' he thought. 'Why am I even thinking about -'
His thoughts cut off abruptly as he felt his lover climb into his lap and straddle his hips. His flesh tingled as Shuichi ran his hands from Eiri's stomach up his chest, and laid his head on the writer's shoulder. Unconsciously, Eiri wrapped an arm around the boy's waist to hold him in place.
The blonde reveled in Shuichi's heat, and leaned his own head atop his lover's. It was still a wonder to him that this kid could evoke such feelings in him. They remained still for several moments before Shuichi spoke again.
"I hate flying,'' he whispered. Eiri raised his head as Shu continued. ''I always have, I just never admitted it to anyone. I mean, my job kinda relies on planes, so what choice do I really have?" Shuichi raised his own head from Eiri's shoulder to look into his eyes. He really wished he hadn't needed to divulge that information, but he felt it important to explain to his lover why he was on the verge of falling to his knees and begging Eiri to come with them. After all, the writer was the only thing that calmed him down and made him feel safe.
A serious demeanor had taken the place of his normal genki one.
"Please, Yuki? It's a five week tour to the east coast of the US. You can bring your laptop and e-mail your manuscript." He dropped his eyes to his hands, which were still pressed to the writer's chest. "I'd feel better knowing you were with me. I'd feel safer."
Eiri moved a hand up to lace through Shuichi's pink locks, his other arm firmly in place around the boys waist. ''Baka," he began, ''you know there's no reason to be afraid of flying. How many times have you been on a plane before? How many times have I?''
Shuichi glanced up into his eyes for a moment, then tried to push himself out of Eiri's lap, but the writer held fast. Shu sighed. 'Looks like I'll have to risk it,' he mused. He really didn't want to be within striking distance when he revealed his usual calming method, but the man wouldn't let him go, and expected a response from him.
Shu took a breath. "It doesn't really matter how many times I've flown in the past. I don't remember any of the flights," he stated. Eiri's brows furrowed together. It wasn't like Shuichi to forget things that related to his job or to music. Shu glanced to the side when he caught his lover's reaction, and Eiri caught his chin between his thumb and a crooked pointer finger, making the boy return his gaze.
"You wanna tell me why you have these memory lapses?'' he inquired sternly, worry edging into his voice slightly.
"Not really," Shu murmured.
''Shuichi," Eiri warned softly.
The singer sighed again, and closed his eyes. ''Fine, if you really want to know, I usually take a couple sleeping pills and drink till I pass out once we're in the air," he admitted warily. "Wake up with a killer hangover, but it keeps me from destroying the plane in a panic."
Eiri's head was reeling. Shuichi did what? His Shuichi. Did he realize the risk in which he was putting himself? Sleeping pills and alcohol never mixed well to begin with, and drinking on a plane is usually bad in itself due to the dehydration from both the alcohol and the altitude. Putting both scenarios together had the potential to be deadly. Eiri shuddered and his body fell numb. How many times had his love done this? How many times could he have lost the boy when he could have easily prevented it?
Shuichi felt the writer's arm loosen around his waist, and he dropped his head and began climbing out of the writer's lap.
However, as soon as Eiri felt the boy shift, all feeling returned to his body, and he not only tightened his arm around Shu's waist, but wrapped his other arm around the boy's back, pressing his hand against the boy's shoulder.
"Why?" he choked out, his voice coming out thicker than he'd anticipated. Shu shrugged.
"I hate flying," he repeated. Eiri growled deep in his throat, flipping Shuichi over and pinning him harshly to the couch.
"Why didn't you just ask me before now and explain?" He was speaking dangerously now.
"Honestly?" Shuichi started, before hesitating, sighing, and trying to look anywhere but his lover's face. "I didn't think you'd care."
Eiri sighed and closed his eyes. 'I deserved that,' he thought. Only in the very recent past had he begun to open up to his lover. He'd given Shuichi no reason to think that he's care about the dangerous situations the boy was obviously putting himself in. He lowered his head.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
Shuichi's eyes shot straight towards Eiri's at his words. "Yuki?"
The older man averted his eyes, and shook his head. "I wish you would have known I'd care. I should have let you know before you started... doing what you were doing. Maybe then you wouldn't have done it in the first place." He paused and raised his eyes to the boys. "Dammit, Shuichi," he said quietly. "Do you have and idea how dangerous that was?"
Shu couldn't meet the piercing golden gaze any longer, and he looked to the side.
Eiri raised himself from the boy, but pulled Shuichi towards himself once he had reseated himself on the couch.
Shu draped an arm across his waist, and rested his head on the writer's chest. "Will you come?" he whispered, hopefully.
"If you promise you'll never do anything like that again."
"I'll promise if you promise to fly with us whenever physically possible."
Yuki sighed. That would pose difficult, but if it meant keeping his koi safe for just a little longer, he'd damn well try.
"Deal," stated the blonde.
Shu looked up at him, smiling timidly, and kissed his lips gently.
"Thank you, Yuki."
Eiri ran his fingers through the pink locks on his lover's head. "Come on, baka. I have a few phone calls to make, and we have some packing to do."
