A large bolt of lightning forked across the sky as they were approaching Shuichi's building, causing the singer to jump and grab onto his friend. He quickly let go so as not to appear scared, though he knew as well as Hiro did that he didn't like lightning or thunder.
The pink haired singer muttered a soft “Sorry,” under his breath as the two men stood under the eave of the apartment building, waiting for Shuichi to get out his keys.
“Don't be sorry, Shuichi,” Hiro said sympathetically, “I know you don't like lightening. I don't mind.”
Shuichi looked up at Hiro.
“Oh…well…I just…For the longest time, Yuki didn't like me grabbing onto him in public…It's just an old habit to apologize for it I guess.”
Hiro looked at Shuichi with gentle eyes.
`How could he have not wanted Shuichi holding onto him?' He wondered as the pink haired singer opened the door and they both walked over to the elevator,
`I know I wouldn't mind if he…'
The guitarist paused in mid thought. How could he think about his friend…his best friend that way?
Sure, he loved him, but … it was purely plutonic. Right?
He loved Shu like he loved his older brother Yugi, though he had to watch out for the accident prone kid to make sure he didn't do something stupid, so that made it slightly different.
The guitarist laughed as he thought about his and Shuichi's strange sort of relationship.
Even though he didn't like to make open remarks about his friend's sexual preference, because frankly he didn't care one way or the other as long as Shuichi was happy, Shu really was like a little sister to him in a lot of ways. The similarities between the two relationships were all there and slightly hard to miss.
Hiro suddenly felt a strong surge of affectionate pride for the kid beside him and he reached over and rubbed his friend's head vigorously, sending water droplets flying off everywhere and causing Shu to turn around smiling.
“Hey!” Shuichi cried playfully as he reached up to grab onto Hiro's hand, oblivious to the unintended flirting.
“Hey yourself!” The guitarist jested as he removed the offending hand and put it back in his pocket.
When the duo reached their desired floor, Shuichi was the first one to hop out of the elevator. He raced quickly down the carpeted hallway, trying to be quiet but not doing a very good job of it. He reached his front door panting as he dug in his pocket again for his key ring.
Hiro caught up just as his friend walked in through his front door.
Shuichi turned around in the doorway.
“Honey,” He said primly, hands hanging gracefully off his hips as he playfully filled the role of flamboyant, gay best friend which Hiro liked to bug him about sometimes, “Don't just stand in the door, get in here!”
The guitarist burst out laughing. He hadn't expected Shuichi to do that and it was just too funny because the kid rarely acted like that on purpose, nor did he ever call him “Honey”.
The pink haired vocalist blushed and laughed as well.
“You think I went a bit over the top with that one?” He asked impishly as he kicked off his shoes and walked sock footed down the hall to hang his coat in the closet.
Hiro hadn't meant to laugh so loud, it was just hard not too.
“I didn't mean to laugh like that,” He apologized meaningfully, “It just sort of came out that way. You're just too much sometimes!”
Shuichi laughed and walked back to the front door where Hiro was now shucking his boots off onto the mat and slipping on a pair of guest slippers.
“Oh,” Shuichi muttered as he turned around, “Hiro here, I'll get you a different pair, Those are Yuki's. You can wear…”
He ran back down the hallway to the closet once more and rummaged around in the bottom until he came across a nice green pair of slippers.
“These ones!” He finished as he came hopping back to present his friend with the new slippers.
“Oh, sorry Shu I didn't mean too—”
Shuichi waved his hand in front of his face and dismissed Hiro's apology.
“That's okay. You didn't know, It's actually my fault for not being a better host and putting some out for you.”
Shuichi bowed apologetically to emphasize his statement.
“Oh…Okay then,” Hiro commented as he stepped up into the apartment and headed into the living room.
Shuichi followed closely behind, though he walked down the hall a little ways first before making a left. He had gone into the kitchen for snack foods and drinks.
“Hey Shuichi! What are you doing?” Hiro called out when his friend didn't follow him in.
The vocalist called back and told Hiro to make himself comfortable on the couch.
“I'm getting snack foods and junk like that!” He shouted, his head buried in a cupboard.
“Alright then!” Hiro answered back as he instead, started walking around the room, stopping to look at the Kandinsky print Yuki-san had positioned next to the window.
“Nice,” He commented as Shuichi came into the room with a tray of junk food and pop.
Hiro didn't often come over to visit, it was normally the other way around, so he hadn't actually looked at the picture upon previous visits.
The singer put the tray down on the couch and came over to the picture.
“It's one of his favorites,” he commented as Hiro turned around to see where the kid was, “He's had that for a long time, I guess. I don't know where he got it from or even why he likes it, he just does.”
Hiro nodded in agreement. It really was a nice painting and the guitarist could see why the older man admired it so much.
Shuichi put his hand on his friend's shoulder to guide him over to the sofa, only to draw it back astutely.
“Hiro you're all wet!” He said, his voice full of what could only be interpreted as shock.
Hiro looked down at his damp clothes.
“Oh yah,” He muttered off handedly, “I didn't wear my coat because it was so hot out and then it started to pour… I'm fine Shuichi, really.”
He didn't want his friend to get in a tizzy just because he was a little damp.
“Well you can't sit around all night in damp clothes!” He declared playfully, “Come on, I'll get you something dry to wear.”
The pink haired vocalist took Hiro by the hand and dragged him to his and Yuki's bedroom, leaving his friend by the dresser as he began rummaging through his lover's closet.
The red haired guitarist was feeling a bit awkward, standing in his friend's bedroom, especially since Shu shared it with Yuki.
He was almost certain that Shuichi was getting him some of Yuki's clothes to wear, since Hiro wouldn't fit into any of the singer's tiny little outfits.
The hyper little vocalist came back out of the closet, triumphantly holding up and pair of black slacks and a blue shirt.
“There!” He stated as he threw the clothes at Hiro, “Those should fit you pretty good, better than any of my clothes would anyway. Yuki's a bit taller than you, but you guys have the same shoulders.”
The singer left so that his friend could change in privacy.
“Let me know when you're finished, okay?” He called back through the bedroom door.
Hiro sighed.
“Alright! I will. Thanks.”
He was grateful that he wouldn't have to sit around in damp, clammy clothes the whole night, though he wasn't so sure that Yuki-san would appreciate having his closet plundered and his clothes lent out while he was away.
Hiro had seen the man in his “author wear” as Shuichi liked to call it, and he actually looked like a normal guy, albeit being tall, blonde and foreign looking.
The guitarist pulled off his clothes and folded them up on top of the dresser near the wall.
He un-bunched the clothes that Shuichi had thrown at him and set the pants on the dresser next to his own stack of clothes.
He straightened out the shirt and put his arms through the sleeves, leaving it un-buttoned for the time being.
The red head next turned to the pants on the dresser. They were just a nice pair of black polyester pants with a simple zipper and button clasping system in the front.
He stood on his right leg and pulled his left leg through the appropriate pant leg. Trying his hardest not to fall over, the guitarist repeated this step for the right leg and was buttoning the shirt when Shuichi called in to check on him.
“Does everything fit Hiro?”
Hiro left the top two buttons undone and called back that everything fit well enough.
The clothes really did fit him well, though the pants and sleeves were a bit too long, but this was to be expected since he wasn't the person the items had originally been purchased for. He wasn't nearly as big of a guy either.
Hiro gulped when he thought of what his friend's lover could actually do to someone.
He really had pitied Ma-kun when Yuki had beaten him almost to death because Taki had had Shuichi raped by those guys. The guitarist believed that, though the novelist's actions had gotten back the film and scared the shit out of Aizawa-san, he could have left Ma-kun out of it. The blonde guitarist hadn't been involved in any of it.
Hiro came out of the bedroom and walked down the hall into the living room. Shuichi was sitting on the couch munching chips when Hiro strolled in.
“Oh they do fit you!” The singer exclaimed as he got up to get a better look.
He circled Hiro like a hawk twice and then nodded his head in approval.
“Yes, they fit you really good Hiro,” He said appraisingly as he returned to the couch.
The guitarist followed him over and settled in for what he hoped would be a very fun evening.
