ML: All righty, final chapter… so… what now?

 

Kira: Another story starring us?

ML: Maybe, if I'm up to it. Anyway, last time, the Livornos ambushed Kira and Lacus at Cagalli's cabin, and well, things got pretty hairy for the moment. If it hadn't been for Dearka and his team, things would have been REALLY nasty, and I wouldn't have gotten to write this!

 

Athrun: Yep. M doesn't own Gundam SEED, or any song he uses for songfic chapters. He does own the various original characters in the fic though. R&R!

 

 

Chapter 11: Confessions and Proposals

 

Weeks and months had passed since the ordeal at Cagalli's cabin, but all the parties were getting over it. Athrun and Cagalli had since gotten married and had their honeymoon. But Kira was back to his own world-weary demeanour. Athrun thought it was because of the Livorno case being over, and he was right.

 

“Come on, Kira. It's over. You can go back to your old life.” Athrun said.

 

“I know. But I still love her.” Kira replied, as both PIs walked into the office. “I still hope she meant what she said back at the cabin.”

 

“About her loving you?” Athrun asked.

 

“Yep.” Kira answered, and sighed. Just as they entered, Karen, the receptionist said, “Kira? Athrun? Someone dropped this off for you; said it was from an old friend.” She dropped an envelope onto Kira's desk. He opened it up, and it was backstage passes to Lacus' next concert when she was in town, which was next week.

 

“There's your opportunity, pal.” Athrun said, just as Dearka entered the office.

 

“Well…” He began. “It's all over. All the crooked cops were forced to resign, and the Livornos have been put away. Guess it's now done for you guys.”

 

“Well, maybe `till the next case.” Athrun replied.

 

“Or maybe until the next week.” Kira said, as he looked at both backstage passes.

 

(THE NEXT WEEK)

 

“Thank you, thank you all!” Lacus said as she finished her second to last number. “My next performance is to someone very important in my life. My first love, and my current love, Kira Yamato.”

 

“That's you, man!” Athrun said.

 

“So I guess you got your answer, my brother.” Cagalli said, as the song began.

As soon as she began the bridge, Lacus immediately turned to the backstage area, and sang the words to him. Before she did that though she mouthed, “Pay attention, `cause these lyrics are for you, my love.”

After that, Lacus took Kira onto the stage, and into her arms. The couple began a soft, slow dance. Athrun and Cagalli and Dearka and Mirialla were watching as the reunited couple had their moment on stage, in each others' arms. After the dance, Kira went back to the backstage area, and watched her sing the rest.

As soon as the instruments faded out, the applause was loud and long, and Lacus took the curtain call. While Athrun and Cagalli took their leave, Kira waited in the dressing room. Lacus greeted him, and said, “I did mean it that time.”

 

Kira smiled, and said, “I know.” As they began to kiss, he took out a ring box.

 

“You don't have to ask.” Lacus said. “I'll marry you.” She put on the ring, closed her eyes, and then melted into Kira's kiss.
