Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Deuces Wild ❯ Chapter 1

The Deuces Wild hung motionless and unseen in space, waiting to ambush the cargo shuttle from Earth. On the bridge, Duo Maxwell, former gundam pilot and captain of the Deuce, sat quietly, the only sign of his impatience the way he fiddled with the end of his braid. He glanced over his crew, pleased with the efficiency and disciplined eagerness. The Deuce's Wild might be smuggler and pirate, but his crew were not criminals in the common sense.

"Cap'n, I've got the shuttle on scanners. Should enter our zone in approximately 2 minutes."

"Right on time. Everyone knows the drill. All we want is the cargo. Blowing up shuttles is a quick way to go broke." //Not to mention getting yourself hunted down.// Duo added the thought silently.

As the cargo shuttle entered the previously designated zone, Duo smiled, a predatory grin. "Match course and speed. Give them a warning shot across the bow, just to let them know we're serious."

"Aye, Cap'n."

~~~
The first inkling the pilot had of his trouble were the proximity alarms going off and the shuttle rocking through the shockwaves azure laser bolts left as they streaked in front of the nose cone. "Shit!"
"Shuttle Whiskey-Tango 129, stand to and prepare to be boarded."
He cursed again, as his computer chirped and attempted to identify the agressor. Mass, propulsion and energy signature all matched the pirate that had been preying on the Earth-Colony space lanes.
"Negative. I'm on an official run for the Earth Sphere with emergency cargo for L1. I cannot comply." The pilot threw the shuttle into evasive maneuvers, hoping against hope that it would be enough.
~~~

Duo narrowed his eyes at the tactical display. //More like emergency supplies for Senator Grant's private army. I wonder how our patriotic pilot would feel knowing he's a gunrunner?//

"Cap'n, he's trying to run."

"Let him. Those shuttles carry the exact amount of fuel they need for their run. Even adding in his reserve fuel, he can't go far. He'll be easier to board once he can't maneuver."

Duo grinned and toggled the comm channel open. "Shuttle Whiskey-Tango 129, you can run, but you can't hide. I say again, stand to and we'll only take the cargo."

~~~
"Taunt me, will you!" The shuttle pilot growled in frustration, but he knew the pirate was right. His craft was heavily laden, lethargic at the controls, and already running low on fuel. The tempting thought of standing to, then running once the pirate came to a stop wandered through his mind, but he instantly dismissed it. Not only was the pirate faster, but he was armed and the shuttle wasn't. "Will not comply. You're gonna have to do this the hard way."
"Roger, Shuttle Whiskey-Tango 129. Keep your pride, we'll just catch up later."
~~~

Duo laughed and shook his head as his gunner offered to fire. "This one has spirit. He should be about out of fuel. Prepare boarding parties. Do NOT harm the pilot or the shuttle, is that understood?"

Affirmative answers from his crew in the air lock satisfied him as the Deuce drew up along side the shuttle, matching the remaining momentum. In a neatly orchestrated maneuver that spoke of long practice, the docking arm latched onto the shuttle and illegally obtained override codes opened the airlock after pressure was equilized.

Reports from his boarding party confirmed that the pilot offered no resistance, merely sitting in the cockpit while his cargo was steadily transferred. One crate was opened to be sure of the contents. "Cap'n, boarding party confirms arms shipment. Small arms, ammo, and explosives."

"No mobile suit parts." Duo frowned. "I thought our intell said Grant was building a new squadron."

"Maybe they're on another shuttle. Likely Grant is taking precautions now that we've started hitting his shipments."

"We'll just have to get a little more ecumenical in our targets, then." A Shinigami-esque grin crossed Duo's face before he sent out his next order. "Boarding party, erase sensor logs and program time-delay retrieval for the shuttle."

"Roger, Cap'n. They'll only have the pilot's word that it was us. And the batteries should keep life supoprt going long enough to let us get well away and the shuttle picked up."

Shifting to the pilot's frequency, Duo smiled, "Shuttle Whiskey-Tango 129, it's been a pleasure. Please feel free to do business with us again."
