Dream of Me
Chapter 4 : The Other Side of the Coin

Heero slowly walked to his room. It would be a long night for him and tomorrow would be a mall day. He would be looking forward to Relena's days off after the conferences.

He opened his bedroom door and walked directly to his laptop and vid-phone. He reviewed the information in the computer and decided to talk to Trowa first, nothing really exciting was going to happen if they could prevent it.

Relena and Midii were in the study room going over the things Midii needed to know for the meetings in the colonies. Noin left for her trip with her son and Milliardo was away looking at problems in the country.

Heero dialed the number and started to organize everything as he waited for the other pilot to respond the call.

* * *

Trowa could say that his day had gone uneventful. He was on L1 with the traveling circus. He would be leaving the next day for the Cinq Kingdom and then taking a shuttle for the L4 colony. His week would be uneventful too if all went as planned.

He finished the call to Relena noting that she had said there was a surprise. He would be surprised to say the least if Relena was as ecstatic as she sounded and looked. Trowa diminished this from his mind as he went to feed the animals of the circus and get ready for today's performance.

Trowa came out of his trailer and in normal working clothes set for the cages. On the way, he picked a bucket containing the food for the lions which were the animals that he cared for. The lions seemed restless today, as if they sensed something.

The first lion circled the cage growling for independence. He calmed down somewhat as he saw Trowa come with his food. Trowa opened the cage, knowing that the lion wouldn't try to run away. The lion came to him as if in instinct and let him pet him for a while. Trowa leaned down, his shirt's first two buttons open. The lion nuzzled at something in his neck and a small chain was revealed.

Trowa looked at it and remembered that he had it. He hadn't even noticed it, he had it for so long that it didn't even bother him in any way. The cross came out, the gold glittering to the light from the artificial light of the colony.

~ Flashback ~

Catherine and him had been on one of her days in which she wanted to buy some clothes for him and her. They wondered in to a mall and she pushed him to the jewelry section. She pointed for him the small sized cross in the light chain. A memory triggered in his mind and he didn't even look at it anymore.

"Why don't you buy it Trowa?" asked Catherine delighted by it.

"I don't think crosses are my style," that was what he said to not buy it and she dropped it. He really didn't want to have that part of his mind open again.

"Well, come on." Catherine urged him to another part of the mall, Trowa not realizing that his mind wouldn't let him out of this one.

Days later, not really knowing why; Trowa found himself in the same place looking at the chain that affected him so much. He bought it as if for remembrance of his past and never thought of it again.

~ End flashback ~

Now, Trowa remembered the black cross laying on the blood-stained grass, broken by the bullet of his gun. Ten years ago, and the memory was still there. It was as fresh as if it had happened just the day before.

Trowa thought of the scared little girl with the moonlit hair, begging him to come back. Not to leave her alone. He remembered his eyes watching her constantly, following the pint sized girl around, feeling something inside his chest when her face would light up with a smile. Then, her confession of betrayal. Loved at that young age and betrayed at the same time.

The growling of the lion made him come back to the present time. Trowa patted the lion in the head who unknowingly made him feel things he hadn't in a long time. He silently moved to the other cages and gave the food to the animals.

As he finished, he entered the tent that was set for the night performance and carried the bucket back to it's place. As he was getting out, a woman in her late twenties came in. Her hair was plainly set in a French braid and her eyes were behind dark sunglasses. She saw Trowa and went to him.

"Excuse me, but do you work here?" she asked politely.

"Yeah," answered Trowa.

"Can you tell me where I could find Catherine Bloom?"

"She's rehearsing her number on the back," Trowa went with her to where his sister was.

Catherine stopped her practice as she saw Trowa appear behind her. It seemed that someone was behind him. She had a closer look and a smile came to her face.

"Oh, Sonia, it's been a long time," Both women embraced. Both smiling to see each other again after so long.

"I know," Sonia replied. "I heard the circus was here and I finally had time to pay you a visit."

Both women continued their chat as Trowa remained unnoticed by both of them. Finally, Sonia saw that he was still there.

"Who is he?" she asked her eyes taking his physique. "He has resemblance to you."

"He should," Catherine answered proudly. "This is Trowa, he's my baby brother Triton."

"I'm so glad you found him Cathy," Sonia said and walked to him. She stretched her hand and Trowa shook it. "I'm Sonia Guarreros."

"I'm Trowa Barton."

"Your sister and I met when we were children, we worked in this circus together." Catherine joined them, her knives ready to be put back into their casing. "Those were the days."

"So, how's the fortune teller business?" asked Catherine directing Sonia to her trailer. Trowa continued with his daily chores and to practice his high rope act for the night.

Trowa always practiced on the real high rope. He went up the stairs to the small platform and closed his eyes, setting his body in balance and relaxed. He opened his eyes again and set the first foot out into the rope. His arms stretched to his sides for a better balance and look and put his other foot on the rope.

Usually Trowa would be concentrating on the act and not on any other things his mind would throw at him. He put his feet before him looking at the other side.

From the ground, Catherine and Sonia observed as he went from one end to the other.

"There seems to be something in his mind," Sonia pointed out, her eyes seeing his muscles contract ever so often and not relaxed.

"I know," Catherine looked at him. "Today's going to be his last day here, he's going away for some time."

Sonia was a great observer of people and could point out what was bothering them. "It looks like he's thinking about something or someone. Might be a person."

"How in the world do you know that?" Catherine asked.

"I study people Cathy, and I can also tell by the way his muscles contract. Something painful, bad is what he's thinking, not good." Catherine continued looking at him knowing that her friend Sonia was never wrong in this things.

"He's never told me about anything that happened to him," Catherine told her. "I don't know what happened to him when he was young or where he was."

"You've asked him?"

"Sometimes indirectly," replied Catherine. "It's like he doesn't want me to know." Sonia agreed, her eyes coming back to Trowa. He was going to do it again.

Trowa let all of those thoughts back to the back of his mind. He had to concentrate on this or there could be the chance of not getting it right. He relaxed again, this time he stopped on the middle of the rope taking his time to concentrate.

In a quick reflex, he did a back flip and landed safely on the rope again. The rope moved from the sudden movement but stabilized itself in a minute.

"He's good," Sonia stood there gaping. "He has a grace for this."

"I know," Catherine walked with Sonia to where Trowa would come down. "Are you going to stay for the night show?"

"Yeah," answered Sonia. "It may be the only time I can see you for a long time. I wouldn't miss it."

Trowa came down with his usual face on. His mind coming back to the face of the small girl with pale blond hair begging for him to come back. Sonia saw as his face contracted as if on a memory and quickly came back to it's normal way.

"Trowa," He turned to his sister and friend. "Sonia and I are going to have lunch in the city. Come with us, you've hardly left the camp grounds since we've arrived."

Her words didn't leave any space for saying no. He agreed to meet them outside of Cathy's trailer in less than one hour. Enough time for him to see if all of his things were in order for the week trip and take a quick shower.

Trowa entered his trailer and went to his laptop for any messages for Preventers H.Q. Nothing, there was no information on the new group that seemed to make it's way out to interfere with Minister Dorlain's objectives. Five years since the war and four since Marimaya. And whoever said this, he or she was right; As long as mankind Exists, there will always be war.

He cursed the war. It only brought pain to the people and they would still make it come and stay to ruin people's life. They didn't seem to understand and want to. He stepped on his small bathroom and took off his clothes. He entered the shower and just let it run for some time. His eyes closed made him see the small angel who betrayed for her family.

He knew she hadn't had a choice if she had to help her family. He then cursed the Wing Zero. It brought on his memories which he lost in his fight with Quatre and the first thing that came where the incidents of the rebel group that had cared for him in his infant years.

He stopped the water and grabbed the towel to dry himself. *Will I ever see Midii alive again?* That question seemed to ask itself constantly now. It didn't want to let go. *She may have died just after I left her thrown in the ground.*

Trowa wondered if what he had done ten years ago was the right thing. They were both children forced to do things that they shouldn't but it wasn't the cause for them to do what they did. In a way, he had been better off than her.

He quickly dressed in dark green pants and a white colored shirt. Passed the towel through his hair drying it a little, passed a comb, and got out of the trailer to meet his sister and her friend.

Lunch had gone smoothly. Sonia and Catherine spent the time talking about the old days and Trowa listened with interest. His mind wondered sometimes back to the old days for him. It looked like this was a day to remember the past no matter how painful it was. He glanced at his sister and saw the happy look on her face come as she laughed at things that happened to her and Sonia.

Trowa could see that Sonia was observing him at some points but didn't show any indifference that he noticed. She was the kind of person that could tell things about people by just seeing their gestures. They spent a whole hour on the cafe and he accompanied them to go to many places on the colony.

They spend the time on an aquarium. Trowa separated himself from them, knowing that his sister would like some private time to catch up alone. He didn't want to feel like a third wheel. He left the aquarium and sat at a bench in the park just in front of it. The trees moved the leaves with the wind giving it a peaceful atmosphere.

Trowa's fence was on the shade and spent the time looking at the children. Their carefree nature giving him time to think on his own with no one to see him. It was time that he got to think of his past, the one that would be with him forever.

At about seven in the afternoon, Trowa's vid-phone started to ring. He finished setting his dinner in the microwave, activated it and went to answer it. He took his seat and got it. Heero's face appeared on the screen.

"Heard you called this morning," Heero greeted.

"How are things?" Trowa asked.

"Fine, you'll see when you get here. I need all the details of your flight, Relena's coming to get you with me."

"Sure," Trowa told him all the things about it. Heero nodded as if put the numbers on a sheet of paper. "I'll see you tomorrow."

They both cut the communication. There wasn't much to say between them, nothing was really the matter for now, for the need of words. They could understand each other better than most of the other people or pilots for that matter.

The microwave beeped and Trowa started to eat slowly. He's appearance would be in about thirty minutes and he didn't have to do anything until then. He washed the dishes and put them back on their place on one of the counters of the mobile home. The half-clown mask was set by the door and he dressed.

As he washed his hands someone knocked on his door. He went to it, retrieving his mask on the way. The opening door revealed Sonia. "Cathy wants to know if you're ready."

"I am," Trowa closed the door behind him and they both set out to find her.

"You should go to your seat," Catherine told Sonia pushing her toward the audience. "If not, you'll miss it."

The crowd applauded as the last act had been performed. The lion tamer came in just as Trowa and Catherine were announced. Catherine moved toward the crowd as Trowa went to the round wheel. The lights came on and revealed Trowa in his place. Catherine revealed five knives on her hands with her agility, she pointed one to his direction and threw.

Trowa's face remained the same. The knife landed right beside his left straight arm. The others were thrown consecutively by Cathy. The crowd held their breaths as they pierced the board. They streamed with applause as Trowa came away from it leaving the knives on the board.

Both of them came forward and bowed to the crowd. The lights went out centering itself on the announcer. Trowa moved to the high wire platform in record time. His act alone was next.

The lights turned on again, emphasizing the high wire. The audience turned their heads toward it and saw as the man with complete awareness and tranquility started to advance. About the middle of it, he stopped and balanced his arms again. In a breaking second, he jumped up and doing a back flip onto the wire again. The audience gasped as he did it, him being about 100 feet above the ground.

Trowa landed on the wire safe, it moving from the pressure of the landing. The audience burst in clapping at him. The wire stabilized itself and as if no worry, he advanced to the finish platform. He came down the stairs and bowed again.

"There is was, Trowa. Thank you for coming today everyone and we hope to see you again. Good night." All of the workers came out into the arena and they all bowed. The audience clapped for the last time and they started to disperse to the exits.

As the commotion lied down, Trowa abandoned his co-workers and went to his trailer. He would have to get some sleep before getting up to take his shuttle for the Cinq Kingdom. He walked slowly to his trailer taking off his mask. He looked at it absent minded seeing how real it was to him. Another face for him to take, just another one.

As Trowa slipped into his sleeping shorts, someone knocked at his door. He advanced to it with a glass of water in his hands. He opened it and found his sister and Sonia.

"You're going to sleep?" asked Cathy looking at his attire.

"Yes, I'm going to the Cinq Kingdom tomorrow," he answered.

"Well, can I borrow your set of cards?" she asked.

"Sure, I'll have to find them." He let them both in and went to his room. He searched the drawers and found them dispersed all over it.

He entered his small living room and found Cathy and Sonia sitting before the small table. "Where's yours?"

"Can't find it," Cathy answered as she took his assembled cards and handed them to Sonia. She shuffled them quietly. Her eyes were closed in concentration.

"Who do you want me to do first?" Sonia asked.

"Try Trowa," Catherine said excitedly like a teenager. Trowa merely stood there, waiting for them to vacate when they were done. It was as if Sonia was going to say his future or something. He didn't want to do this, but it looked like he wouldn't have a choice. Catherine looked at him standing there and told him to come over. He sat sideways from Sonia and he wondered what they could be doing.

Sonia opened her eyes and set the first three cards on the table. She observed them and set three more alongside them. She studied them closer and got three more out.

"Interesting," she mumbled to herself as she set her gaze on him.

"What is it?" Catherine asked.

"There's something from the past, something tragic." Trowa merely watched it as she talked. "It's coming back to him." She shuffled the deck and got six more out.

"Do you know what that thing is?" Sonia shook her head at Cathy's question setting six more cards out.

"There was a lot of hurt in both parts. On him and the other." Her hands skillfully shuffled the cards she had on her hands as she analyzed it. "There was a lot of death around you. Too much for such innocence."

Trowa kept his face still, his mind paying attention to what was being said. Sonia read her cards and pushed her finger on the last one pondering. "What could this mean?"

She left the last six on front for reference and set six more cards below the last six breaking the pattern. She examined the last card and the six, her mind trying to figure it out. Six more cards came out of the deck and onto the last ones. She closed her eyes a minute, her hand pressed against the confused one. It didn't make sense for now.

"A past emotion will make it's way back into you. It won't be easy to control and you'll see a truth. Past faces aren't what they were, the years changed the way it thought, and the way it expressed it's feelings." Her eyes opened as she smiled. Her eyes were now understanding.

"What do you mean it?" Catherine stressed the word it, her curiosity getting the best of it.

"A past connection," answered Sonia. She set six more down. "A person from your past is going to make it's way back to your life," The six set of cards was laid down, Sonia keeping her thoughts to herself. "That doesn't tell me nothing."

The cards were shuffled again, this time she took more time in it. She asked Catherine to take the cards she had taken out and put them in a pile. The table now remained empty. Her hands moved closer and closer together and she stopped taking a card out from under it. Her eyes widened as she saw the card, it was the joker. Of the two jokers in the card, one was the first to get out.

Sonia's hands trembled slightly at the finding. A joker out on the first row was the indication of something wrong in this. She shuffled the cards again, this time fierce fully. She wanted to be sure that the cards wouldn't confuse her. She knew that her cards weren't even, she would need five more cards from the pile, but it would all come at due time.

Her hands stopped any movement and she held her breath, the remaining five cards came out. They were useless, they wouldn't say or have the connection she needed. Careful as to not break the connection, she set six more down without the usual shuffle. She set them over the last six, careful as to not cover the numbers or sign. An ace, a king, a queen and most concerning; a joker. The second joker with the first. It was the last card of the row, this was getting too complicated for her.

Catherine and Trowa were aware of the way Sonia's eyes turned confused and alert. They looked at each other and back at her. "What is it Sonia?" Catherine's voice was a little shaken from her attitude and silence.

"I'm not sure," her voice quivered slightly. "There's danger and misfortune."

"For whom?" asked Catherine looking at Trowa frightened by the words. Sonia didn't respond as she laid the last set of six cards and held in her hand, the last one. Her breath held, the Ace , two and three came on the same row one after the other.

Three aces on the eighteen cards, two jokers, and three last cards in her hand. She knew what it was, it hadn't shown before in the deck. She held it in her hand as if afraid to look herself. The meaning was getting clearer and clearer by the minute.

"Danger for someone you care a lot. A shadow from the past is in danger and..." Her voice trailed off and her free hand came to her temple thinking. Her brows together making her eyes concentrate.

"And?" Catherine got scared. From her experience in cards from Sonia, she knew that two jokers weren't good for anyone and the three aces... this wasn't good.

Sonia left the last remaining card on the table face down. She went to the pile and shuffled it, it looked like she had to go another round for this to become clearer. The three rows of cards remained in the table as they were. Sonia slid them further from her but with it's cards straight as they were before.

She slid the face down card to the far left corner below the rows as it was. She stopped the shuffling and let five cards out but faced down. She took in a deep breath and started from the right to left, not wanting to reveal the lone card first. Goosebumps made a way to her arms and legs and she shivered. The cards weren't playing, they were dead serious. It was blank, the blank card was the lone card.

She set the other six down, the shuffle sloppier because of her nerves. She needed her tarot cards, these ones were confusing her and making her loose her trail of thoughts. The next six came too, now there were 18 cards, maybe they would clear the conviction.

All thirty six cards spoke on their own. They spoke sideways and in pair of threes. All four ace's were now on the table, the two jokers, the four kings and the blank card. All others connected the thoughts. Finally, her voice came to her and she started to talk and her eyes and hands studied the cards.

"I know that you are not a believer Trowa," Sonia stopped as she examined a pair closely. "There's no way that cards can say so much of you, they're just cards." Catherine knew it was true. Trowa did what the occasion brought itself to do, not that it was predestined for you to do it.

"Someone from your past is back in your life. I can't tell whether it's a female or male. There's a secret and decision that will balance all of this. There are many people involved, friends and unknown to you." She shuffled the remaining cards as she spoke. "Danger will come when you least expect it and when you think it's over, the surprise will come hitting you on the face."

Trowa didn't know what to make of it. His life was as normal as any other, all of the people in his past were dead and his friends were the ones he knew from the war.

"There's someone you've been thinking of lately, a person from your past. A betrayal and a love." Her mind searched for another opening.

"That is the key, the other side of the coin." Sonia wondered what made her say that. "The cards are confusing me, I can't say anymore without making sense to myself."

Sonia examined the cards further and made a discovery very rare on this. All of the heart cards were there on the thirty six. All of them except the queen. Could it be? Her fingers stopped her shuffling and she looked at the deck strangely. Could it be?

Her hands trembled slightly as she set each of the cards down again making another row of six cards. Her nervousness was in her. Her hands were sweaty and her breathing came in rigid gasps. Her complexion was thrown off, she didn't want to see. The cards didn't want to show, what could be that bad?

She set the cards down again, most of them would be useless to her, all of the ones in this deck that showed what you wanted and needed were out. It was not going to be easy for her.

She started from right to left. She turned the first card and the queen was revealed. It was there, the queen was the next card to get out. She turned the other five not really caring what they could be. To do what she wanted, she set two other rows of six cards and for the nine cards from each side of three. She made them into a pile and assembled the other into another and left them on the corner of the table.

This would be the last shuffle, the last one for the last set of eighteen cards. She let her hands do the work as Catherine and Trowa were confused to what she was doing. In the cards, there were the two jokers, the blank card, the queen of hearts and more that didn't mean anything to her.

After a minute of shuffling the deck hard, she stopped and mindlessly put all of the cards on three rows. This would be it for her, it should give her an idea of what would happen. She prayed for what she thought that wouldn't come. What ever happened, those two cards shouldn't be together. Please, don't let them be together.

The blank card was last, it meant the cards wouldn't say more than what they said already. The first row was meaningless to her, the king of clubs was alone. A very important person perhaps? And a joker, right down. The king was in danger, something or someone was after it. The queen of hearts was involved indirectly at some point. And there was the joker again, right beside it with the J and ten.

"There is a sentence of meaning in here. Someone important is in need of help. The queen of hearts represents the person that is involved indirectly and you, the J are involved in some way indirectly. The joker follows you and the queen, more in-tranquility. She pointed to the last card, it seemed to leave an air of nerves.

Sonia shivered involuntarily as she touched it. "The cards aren't sure of what will happen, it all goes back to the beginning. The choices you and the queen make have a lot to do with this. You two are like the other side of the coin. One connected to the other and hearts, it has to do with hearts." Sonia stopped altogether, her eyes and complexion as confused as ever. "Or a representation of something deep."

She stood up, placing the cards on one deck altogether. She shuffled them and without thinking, she took the three first cards out of it and placed the before Trowa. "Be careful. Even if you don't believe in this, be careful of the things that happen around you."

She left the three cards unturned before him, herself knowing which ones they were. It would bother her too much. She needed her tarot cards. They would tell her what it was that bothered her, they would.

Catherine stood up and said Good night to Trowa, her mind already forgetting this whole thing. Maybe it was one of those nights that strange things would happen. Maybe. Sonia and her left the trailer, Trowa stayed there in his seat contemplating the three cards by him.

"She's right. I don't believe in this kind of thing." Still, something inside him didn't let his gaze out of the three cards. *She was right of your thoughts. You've been thinking of Midii for sometime and you do wonder about her a lot.*

*What would that have to do with what she said?* He disputed himself.

*Maybe nothing. Maybe all of it, or it may be nothing at all.* He forced himself out of the chair and into his bedroom. He laid on the bed with the sheets drown to his waist. A small light coming from the window, even as dim as it was, reflected off of his chest.

His hand came to it and found itself encased around the cross on it. His mind wondered again to the blond girl of his past. Something inside his heart, stirred at the thought of her. He remembered her words.

~I can't even tell the one I love that I love him.~

He knew that she meant him, he loved her too. Even if it had only been the love of small children, it was still love. He had never felt what he did for her for another person in the world, not even another girl he knew. He felt love toward his sister, Catherine, but it wasn't the same. Midii hadn't been his sister and as he compared his feelings, he saw differences between them. Differences that were huge to him, too many.

Trowa let his mind wonder and wonder and he fell asleep. His clock set and his things ready for his week in the colonies with Relena and Heero.

His dreams weren't things of his past, they were of the present. Memory brought Midii into his mind. She was standing right before him apologizing and him not being able to move.

The chance to see her again and an encounter was brought. She looked as scared as she was when he last saw her for leaving her alone in between all that bloodshed that she had been the cause of. His hand came to her eyes. They were with tears that had fallen, making their way down to her face and into the clothing.

~I'm sorry,~ she said to him. Her eyes looking at him directly, not hiding a single thing from herself. ~I'm sorry.~

~I'm sorry too,~ Trowa said in his dream and his lips mumbled as he slept. They both embraced in a hug, the past forgotten for a new relation to begin between them.

Trowa looked down at her and saw the same look that she had when he left her. It was still there, he could see it again. She still felt something for him. The same emotion was there. Trowa was sure that his eyes were reflecting the same things. Both of them locked on each others eyes, reading their souls.

He leaned down slowly, she stood on her tip-toes putting her arms on his neck for support. She only reached to his shoulder. His head towering over her body.

Their lips meet, forgetting the distance.

Trowa's eyes opened, his alarm clock was beeping. It was time to get up, his flight would be leaving in less than an hour. He got out of the bed, letting everything ready for when they move the trailers for the tour that the circus was doing.

The cab would arrive any minute. His mind wondered to the dream, it looked so real to him. Too real. He gave another look around the trailer finding everything in order. Then, he remembered the cards. The three cards were still on the table unturned.

There they were. Just as he had left them the night before. His picked up the deck, wondering. He wanted to know what were the three cards. He gave up and turned them up.

The first was the queen of hearts. Followed by it was the joker and the last one. He didn't know what to expect. He turned it and couldn't help but be surprised. It was the blank card. Sonia's words came to him again.

~The queen is someone from your past that is involved indirectly. The joker represents the danger that will follow you and the blank will tell you nothing. The cards don't know what will happen or won't say their selves.~

The queen, the joker and the blank cards.

~The Other Side of the Coin.~ That seemed to be the direct line of approach.

*We are the Same.* He remembered that he had said that to Midii when she asked of why he saved her. *We are the Same.* The cab announced itself by it's horn.

Trowa put the cards down on the deck and took them. He closed the door of the trailer and got into the yellow vehicle.

"The airport," the man nodded and went off into the city and the airport of the colony. *You and I are alike.*

"Two sides of a coin is an expression to say that they are both alike." Trowa said to himself realizing something. "We are the Same."

He and Midii had been like the other side of the coin.
