Chapter #6: 'Area 51' Part 2/3: Mission Impossible
"Mandy, I don't think they will be teaching 'How to bust into area 51 and steal top secret craft in high school any time soon," Sage said, making her usual wise-ass comment. "Bite me," Mandy replied. "Guys quiet… the have mikes here, everywhere, and I do mean everywhere," Jessica chastened. "Here is our ticket in," Heero spoke he was standing over something. The gang gathered around and saw a covered air vent, "too convenient," Jessica spoke out loud.
Heero took out infrared goggles, "Laser beams," he added. "The fence is electric," Trowa added quietly. Heero kneeled and examined the emitters, he pulled out a slim knife and expertly pushed the blade between the metal of the cover and the earth around it, he came up with a tiny wire, which he cut effortlessly. Looking into his infrared binoculars he checked that the beams were off, "All clear," he spoke. "Way to go Hee-man," Duo cheered him on, rather loudly. "Shut up Maxwell, I mean it," Heero replied. "Ok, how do we get this cover off now?" Sage asked, looking at the huge bolts on it. "They look like steel to me," Amber spoke from the back. "Hmm…" Jessica went into the back of the van and came back with a pair of large pliers, "use these," she handed them to Heero, who nodded. In three minutes flat he effortlessly snapped the bars off.
Hooking the ropes on the edge of the ventilation shaft, one by one the ten of them descended down in to the murky darkness of the ventilation shaft, it was heading right underground right to the middle of the fenced off area. Suddenly the girl's stones reacted, beginning to shimmer pink once again, they lit up the passage like candles. "Common," Heero was leading the group, once it a while he would check the passage ahead for more infrared beams.
They arrived at a fork in the shaft, it was still large enough to walk trough it standing upright but the shaft ahead looked like it was dipping slightly deeper into the ground, "Now where?" Duo asked. Heero pulled out a plan of the ventilation shafts he got from his hacking trials and looked at it, trying to find their location, "Go Right," he said after a second. They continued to move.
After about ten minutes they come up to a dead end with only a rail under them, and under the rail it looked like there was some sort of underground chamber.
Some distance away from the same opening to the ventilation shaft, a guard was walking by, whistling happily when he head something, turning around her drew a gun. Suddenly from the ventilation shaft, a figure jumped down, landing in a crouch. The figure stood up, to the guard it looked like a young boy, he was dressed in black, his hair was messy, drawing his gun he approached, "Stop right there," he said pointing the gun at the intruder.
Heero turned around sharply and cursed inwardly, he was caught. "What are you doing here? And how did you get here?" the guard asked. Heero remained quiet; he heard a gentle click above him. The other saw his turmoil.
The guard was still looking at the intruder, he was about to grab his radio and initiate intruder alert when another figure jumped down from above, "Lights out big boy," the figure said, before he could do anything the apparently woman spin kicked and blew him right into a wall, knocking the guard out cold. "Oh he's going to feel that in the morning," Duo commented as the other also jumped down from the ventilation shaft.
---Elsewhere---
The guards were sitting around, watching the strange humanoid machine, some were playing cards when suddenly a green glow emitted from one of the machines, the guards looked up, the machines, their eyes were flashing green, but then they dimmed and the green glow vanished. The guards shrugged and went back to what they were doing.
---With The Gang---
Heero once again took the lead, carefully listening for approaching guards. He knew where he was heading, that and the stones were giving them pointers. "Ok… the map says that there is only one room in this main building large enough to house all ten, and were getting close," Mandy was looking at the map curiously. "This is too easy, far too easy," sage whispered, she had a nagging feeling that something wasn't right.
Heero made a turn and stopped dead, five guards were guarding the room they need to enter. The guards noticed him; "Hey YOU! Stop right there!" four of them lunged for the youth. Suddenly alarms blared. "Crap… nail 'em," Heero ordered. All hell broke loose, the guards weren't giving up, they were big and brawny. But the Gundam pilots took care of them.
---At the control center---
The general was awoken with a buzz of alarms. His men were rushing around machines, "Sir… there are ten intruders by sector thirteen, they maybe after those machines, but sir… the intruders, they are teenagers," the man looked at the general in shock. "Well obviously they aren't your average teens, seal off the main hangar, they mustn't get to the machines, now!" the general barked at his men. The men nodded and complied.
---At the main hangar---
The pilots got into the hangar just as heavy metal doors slammed over the entrances, sealing them off inside. "Look! There they are!" Mandy Squealed, indeed there stood nine humanoid forms, and some distance off was a fighter, it's wings closed about it, it's rifle barrels glittering with the flashing red lights of the hangar. "Is that Phoenix?" Amber asked, pointing to the fighter. "Yep… but I'm amazed it is in Jet mode, never mind, we did it, lets get them and bust out of here," she said. The pilots nodded. "Not so fast, look… they are wired with something," Sage pointed out. "Explosives," Heero chimed in monotone, "Simple ones, they underestimate Gundanium, these explosives wont even make a dent on them," he added.
"Well then, let's get them," they broke into a run to their respective machines. The guys had no trouble activating their hatches and getting inside, the girls however hesitated, unsure what to do. Suddenly a hot pink glow erupted for their stones, enveloping them in the glow, a second later It subsided… with a hiss Wolf Zero, Absolute Zero, Tempest Hurricane opened their cockpits. Phoenix lowered a platform under its belly, allowing Jessica to climb in.
---At the Control Center---
"Sir… the machines… the teenagers have gotten inside," one soldier looked at the general. The general slammed his fist unto his armrest, "they aren't normal teens, deploy the C4… blow them up… maybe the government wont find that we let them pass trough the area 51 perimeter," the general hated blowing these machines, but now they had no choice but to do it. The soldier gulped and typed in a few commands, he was hesitating, it didn't seem right to him. Finally he pressed the detonator command.
On the cameras the explosives went off, forming giant fireballs, the fire swept over the room, covering its walls. The soldiers watched, waiting to see the smoking remains of the machines on the ground, what they saw terrified them, out of the falling flames the fighter machine rose, completely unscratched, flames raced across it's wings, making them look like they were on fire, the machine was hovering over the ground. The others also emerged from the flames, completely unharmed, "General! The C4 had no effect! They aren't even scratched!" the soldier yelled in horror.
On the screen the fighter turned to the giant doors on the roof, the barrels of it's canons begin to shimmer and swirls of energy formed on them, a second later the canons fired an orb of yellow energy, it blew the doors right of. It fired again, the orb going right up the shaft of the roof and blowing the top doors off, now a clean shaft formed, with nothing but open skies above them. "Deploy the F16 fighters, and the ground troops, don't let them leave area 51!" the general yelled, the men nodded.
---With the Gang---
Heero was the first to go up the tunnel, Wing Zero burst out of the shaft with the blue burn of boosters. The others followed one by one and Cosmic Phoenix emerged last. Tanks were already waiting for them; they raised their canons up towards the head of the machines. Cosmic Phoenix was still hovering above them watching the tanks.
Trowa raised one double gantling at the tanks; the machines took a few paces back. "Trowa don't, they cant hurt us, but we can kill them all here effortlessly, we are not their enemies, lets not make them think we are by opening fire," Jessica cautioned. "You're right," Trowa replied, Heavyarms lowered his gantling.
Cosmic Phoenix hovered up a bit and suddenly it began to shift and slide, the buster rifle halves came together and folded back behind it's back, the cone nose split into four metal parts that folded unto it's chest, revealing the head. Its feet came out and its legs snapped to full length, revealing the knee joint, the landing gear folded away and shoulder pads rose from the upper arm, forming the arms. The wings flapped and folded like that of Wing Zero's as joints were revealed from behind folding plates. The Gundam spread its arms and from its loud speakers a loud shriek of a wild bird escaped. Cosmic Phoenix landed heavily on the ground on its feet, right beside Wing Zero, the two suits had striking resemblance everyone noticed.
It then moved to the tanks, they fired shells, but Cosmic Phoenix wasn't even rocked by impact. The soldiers were terrified, Phoenix kneeled before them, it's hands reaching to grab the tanks by their canons, the soldiers moved back, Phoenix retained a strong grip, and suddenly the canons gave away and tore off.
None of them however noticed a squad of F16 fighters rise behind them, the jets tore off and suddenly they let their missiles loose. The missiles impacted every Gundam, but once again caused no damage. Phoenix got up, "No body fire… they don't know what they are doing, leave them to me…" Cp once again jumped into the air, boosters activating the Gundam flew up and in mid flight transformed, the jets began to fire missiles at it in a barrage…
