Chapter #19: Mike's Gone

When they got home, Mike for once was quiet. Not bothering his cousin, he was satisfied by what he seen, even shocked and amazed by the gundams. Only now it really began to sink in that his cousin's dream came true in all forms. He was really smug with himself, although he couldn't pilot Cosmic Phoenix, and he seriously doubted he ever would since the gundam seemed to seriously distrust him, he was glad to have been at least inside the cockpit.

He sat on the patio in though, musing over all the things happening. When he first saw the newspaper he though that it was a prank, his mind didn't fully believe it. He thought pigs would sooner fly than he would see the gundams within his lifetime, especially Wing Zero and the others. But now, it fully sank in that the guys have somehow appeared in their world, and Mike could bet it had to do with the strange pink stone hanging around the girl's neck.

Mike looked up at the sound of a car approaching. He saw a limousine stop by the house on the opposite side of the road. It was black, shining like a beacon. Something struck Mike odd and he was about to move into the house when a window of the car rolled down, a barrel of a sniper rifle peaked out, aiming right at him. Before mike could move, the assailant in the car fired, Mike felt something hit his arm, looking down he saw a dart was sticking out of his arm, before he could pull it out, the tranquilizer took effect and Mike collapsed soundlessly.

Jacob Lee watched from the car, "Take him, but silently, also leave the note in his place," he commanded. Two men nodded and exited the car, silently moving to the building, both grabbed the unconscious teen, and one placed a note on the bench, and placed a rock over it. With that they moved back to the limousine, a minute later it drove off.

That evening, Jessica walked unto the patio, "Mike get your -" she stopped cold when she didn't see Mike anywhere. "Odd… Mike? Where you?" she wondered. She expect him to jump out in his cheesy attempts to scare her, he always did that, ever since they were little he loved to scare her. "He's not here," Jessica jumped at the quiet cold voice coming from behind her it wasn't Mike's. Turning around she sent her stalked a fair impression of his own death glare, "Heero stop sneaking up on people!" she barked. Heero's lips arched a little bit, a ghost of a smile; he motioned to the piece of paper he held in his hands. Jessica took it and opened it.

Heero could pin point the exact second the girl finished reading it, her eyes narrowed, "That's the last straw…" she muttered, "I may take being called Vigilante, I will take being called a rebel, but I will not take some scum messing with my family!" she hissed. Brushing past Heero she stormed into the house, the note slipping from her hand. Heero picked up the note and looked at it, the crest of the black lotus instantly noticed, in an instant he understood.

He found Jessica in the house talking to the other pilots, "Jess that is awful, this Jacob Lee guy is pushing it," Sage commented. "That's right, and I am going to teach him how to mess with my family," Jessica replied. "You can't possibly be thinking of going there alone!" Duo chimed in shock. "Let her go," Wufei put in, earning himself a death-glare from the girls, and Even Trowa glared at him.

Heero placed the note on the coffee table but otherwise remained quiet. "Jess don't be foolish, this Jacob Lee guy has hundreds of men by now, you cant get Mike alone by yourself," Amber warned. "That's why I'm coming with her," Trowa voiced over, the room became silent when he spoke. "As much as I appreciate it Trowa, you cant… Heavyarms can't possibly keep up with Phoenix in full flight; it would be more of strain on me to fly slower, Phoenix's wings is designed for fast flight," Jessica turned to Heero, "Alright Heero, produce the van keys," she ordered.

Heero made no move, "He may not be able to keep up, but Wing Zero can, I'm coming too," he replied. "So am I, Tempest Hurricane can keep up too," Amber added. Jessica growled, "Fine," she turned around and left. Heero and Amber followed. "I have a feeling we all better follow," Sage spoke. Everyone followed.

After five minutes the red van tore off. It escaped everyone that Jessica had a sinister grin on her features, 'Heero may think he can keep up because Phoenix is so similar to Wing Zero, but he doesn't know that it has more boosters, he probably will soon realize that… a little too late,' she thought, smirking. It escaped even her that at the instant, the stone around her neck began to shimmer, a symbol formed on it, a second later however the shimmer was gone, and the stone was dormant once again.

Meanwhile in their hideout. Mike woke up, he was still drowsy but coherent again. He found himself tied to a chair in an open field; next to him sat a man. "Good of you to wake up Mr. Bailey," the man spoke. Mike looked up at the man, "Who the hell are you and why have you kidnapped me?" he wondered. "Ah… allow me to introduce myself, I am Jacob Lee, leader of the Black Lotus resistance corp. And lets say… we have some business with your cousin and her friends," the man spoke. "What kind of business?" Mike asked in a low hiss, "If you are trying to get her to work for you, fat chance, the guys would never work for anyone, they are used to being rebels, and she will follow wherever they go," Mike spoke coolly. "Ah… so tell me Mr. Bailey, who is the leader of them? I think I just might know, is it the one you call Heero Yuy?" Jacob wondered.

"How did you know?" Mike began to struggle. "You see, we know everything about them," Jacob replied. "Obviously not everything, if you truly knew everything you would know that you are soon to be looking up the twin barrels of my cousin's buster rifle, and let's just say… that weapon wont leave as much as a DNA shred of you if Jess decided to fire," Mike replied smugly. "And that is why you're here, Michael, she will not fire on her own cousin," Jacob countered. Mike gulped, this Jacob Lee guy didn't know what Jessica was capable of, he didn't know about the Zero system, and he didn't know about how far the gundam pilots would go. Mike hung his head low, 'I'm so dead…' he thought.

At the limestone cave, the pilots drove the car right into the cave, hiding it in the chamber. Jessica immediately went to her gundam and got into the cockpit, "Phoenix begin nitrogen collection, I have a feeling we will need all the firepower we can muster," she commander. "Yes mistress," Phoenix replied. Jessica strapped in and closed the cockpit; a second later Phoenix came online and stretched out. Before all the other gundams could power up it's wings unfolded and the gundam took off in a hurry. "Jessica!" Sage called, but the links were severed and blocked.

Heero moved after her, Wing Zero also took off, "Heero don't follow here too closely, if I know her, she's up to her old 'I want to prove myself' tricks," Sage warned. "Roger that," Heero replied. The other gundams also followed, Tempest Hurricane in the lead, but soon it overshot the rest and joined Heero on their attempt not to loose the speeding Phoenix ahead.

When the Phoenix cleared the cave, in a barrel roll it transformed into a jet and blasted foreword, causing a loud sonic boom. Heero gritted his teeth and ordered Wing Zero to accelerate. He only now realized that Jessica wasn't kidding when she said that Heavyarms couldn't keep up, he was having trouble keeping up. In jet mode Phoenix has reached mach two, and it was only flying on six boosters, Heero knew it had at least six more in those wings of hers, that made him wonder what was phoenix's top speed and would Jessica be crazy enough to push her gundam to go that fast.

Jessica growled she knew Heero was following her, and he was gaining slowly, she didn't want to accelerate because of the G-force, she didn't want to hurt herself. He appeared on her video links, "Very clever, jamming your link on a shifting frequency," he smirked. "Heero leave me alone, I want to do this myself," Jessica replied, Phoenix banked up and gained attitude. Wing Zero followed, Heero expected evasive maneuvers, he was glad however that Jessica decided to try and loose him through her superior speed, rather than taking the chase down unto the streets of Chicago. Already people were noticing the two high speed machines flying over them, they didn't need to see them flying between the buildings, playing cat and mouse.

"Heero I'm warning you, get off my tail," Jessica hissed. "I can't do that," Heero replied. "Have it your way," she replied, Heero saw Phoenix brake in the air, taking Heero by surprise Wing Zero overshot her. In an instant it took Heero to safely come about he found himself starring at Phoenix, which transformed, its flame canons pointing at him. "You fire those, and I will have to retaliate," Heero warned, Wing Zero reached for it's saber.

The people below watched the two giants float above the buildings, in what appeared to be threatening stances. Heero meanwhile was trying to keep his wits about him, he didn't know what was coming, and he had no clue whether Jessica would be crazy enough as to actually fire at him. The two mobile suits continued to stare each other down, "Heero… Final warning, leave, I want to rescue Mike on my own," Jessica warned, Heero could see the tell-tale signs of a Zero activation gritting his teeth he knew that he'll have to knock some sense into Jessica, one way or the other, "Jessica… you know I cant do that," he replied.

Before he could respond the link was cut and Phoenix blasts out a pillar of fire at him, Heero only barely managed to dodge it. Taken aback he grabbed his gundam's saber and moved at Phoenix, but the bird gundam dodged him effortlessly, Heero knew he was fighting half heartedly, he really didn't mean to hurt Jessica, or cause damage to her gundam, but he wasn't sure whether Jessica had the same feeling, but he knew she needs to be stopped.

Author notes: Yikes! So it looks like Heero got himself into a duel, but is Jessica really loosing control? Did Heero's worst-case scenario coming true?
