Chapter 9
Wufei's Ours, Give him Back!
The rest of the week proved no easier than the first day. Quatre and Trowa could only sit back and watch as the man they loved dined out with someone else, spent time with someone else and completely and utterly ignored them. Once Trowa had walked past his office to peak in and find Wufei dancing across the floor in that blond idiot's arms. Hell he'd been dancing for years and he didn't remember needing to run his hands over his partner's body like that! He tried to break it up but Wufei only laughed his concerns away and said he was just giving them pointers on their dance moves. Pointers, right. If anyone actually believed that then he had a big ass bridge to sell them in New York. Quatre tried going straight to Wufei's office and was disgusted to discover that he shared it with the idiots. Damn it couldn't he get a break? Not only was he wasting time with them but he oh so politely told him that he didn't have time to fight today as he had important work to do. Quatre grumbled and crossed his arms; there was really no need to be rude. Besides what was more important than them? Trowa tried again near lunch time hoping to separate him out and invite him to lunch. No luck.
Wufei was already off with Heero and Duo to meet the idiots at a corner deli down the street. Trowa glared, he and Quatre weren't even invited. Damn it they already apologized, how much more did they want? Gods they were willing to do anything!
They hadn't much luck with the other pilots either. Whenever they entered a room Heero and Duo got up and left. Trowa tried calling them once but the moment they heard his voice they hung up. Fed up Quatre went to their office interrupting a conversation. Duo had gotten up and drew one of his daggers and approached Quatre. Terrified of the angry approaching figure Quatre backed up quickly before slamming into the wall behind him. He flinched as the door slammed shut in his face. He sat shaking on the floor for what seemed like hours before shakily climbing to his feet and headed back to Trowa. They didn't bother the others all day. Instead they spent their time calling Wufei's office and cell phone. Neither were answered.
They finally got an opportunity near dinner time when Wufei left the office. Trowa and Quatre cornered him outside the rest room. Wufei remained quite; he just leaned back against the wall and crossed his arms. Faced with an unblinking stare, Quatre shifted from foot to foot. “Wufei we need to talk.”
Silence.
“Please Wufei let us apologize for what we said, it came out all wrong.” Quatre glanced quickly at Trowa hoping for a little extra help. Trowa stared back at him. Ya, he should have known better. He swallowed and tried to think of the best way to approach this. “We wanted to know what it was that we did wrong that made you turn to those two.”
“I beg your pardon?” Wufei couldn't believe what he was hearing.
“Your two new,” Quatre took a breath, “partners. Why did you leave us for them?”
“Quatre I have a new job and with it new people to work with. I didn't leave you for them I was transferred.”
“You could have said no.”
“I didn't want to.”
“Why?”
“Because Quatre I like this job. I love what I do.” He sighed and pushed off the wall. “Its time to grow up, we can't always work together nor in the same department.”
“But that doesn't mean we can't see each other anymore does it?” Trowa asked softly, cupping Quatre's sagging shoulders.
“No of course not, we are still friends.” Wufei shrugged, “We just aren't always going to be around each other anymore.” Wufei walked off down the hall. The two stared after him, not knowing what their next move was going to be, or even if they had a next move.
The rest of the week Quatre and Trowa stayed away. They hoped that whatever problems they caused earlier would lessen or go away entirely if they weren't there to compound them. It wasn't easy. They hurt every time they saw Wufei with the other two. Every time they saw the touches, the laughs, the smiles. More than once they had to stop themselves from putting a foot through the idiots' faces. There really was no need for all that touching. Hell even they themselves didn't touch that much and they were very affectionate. Although if Malcom smiled that cheesy just got lucky smile one more time or Kyle's hand strayed south of the border one more time they were going to explode. No jury in the world would convict them from protecting Wufei's honor. Wufei just didn't realize that he needed it protect is all. They refused to give up though, Wufei was theirs and until he said otherwise, they will try to gain back his trust. And preferably him back into their house. Friday night they went to bed depressed and fearful, not even each other could bring the slightest bit comfort.

“Hey Wufei can you do us a favor?” Kyle set the bowl of mash potatoes down on the table and took his seat. Malcom grabbed the roast beef as Duo passed him with the salad.
“Sure what do you need?” He shut the fridge and handed the beers off around the table.
Kyle winked at Malcom as Wufei's back was turned. “We need someone to go to California and clear out our old apartment for us. We'd do it but we have that “welcome to the job thingy”coming up and can't do it.” He shared a grin with Heero as he handed him the salad. “And if we don't get it done within the next week, our landlord is going to throw all our stuff out.”
Wufei looked up surprised, “Really? Ya sure, of course I'll help you out. I can fly out tomorrow in fact.”
“Oh Wufei that would be perfect.” Malcom leaned over and gave him a hug.
“Thank you so much.” Settling back down the friends began their dinner, chatting and laughing over the past week's events.
Later that night after everyone went to bed, Malcom rolled over and pinned Kyle to the bed. “So love do you think it's going to work?”
Kyle snagged Malcom's neck and dragged him down for a kiss, “well I chased after you didn't I?”
“Mmmm, why yes you did.”
The morning dawned bright and beautiful and Wufei caught an early flight out. His friends came to see him off before heading off to the office. After all they had plans to put in motion. Plans that with any luck would send two desperate lovers after their friend. If not then they had two funerals to plan because they refused to let those idiots act like they had anymore. That day they stayed away from Quatre and Trowa and refused to answer any of their questions relating to Wufei went they did run into each other. It got so bad that they had to take their office phone off the hook. At the end of the day, defeated in their efforts to locate Wufei, Trowa and Quatre went home.
As upset as they were they never noticed the car following them, nor passing them before they turned onto their street. Quietly they entered their house, hoping once again that Wufei had returned. Well Wufei wasn't there to greet them but some one else was. In an embarrassing short amount of time, the two were restrained to their kitchen chairs and gagged. The lights were flicked on, momentarily blinding them.
“We need to talk.” Blinking the spots out of their eyes, they turned to find Duo digging through their fridge, removing four water bottles. He tossed three of them over their shoulders. Turning in their seats they saw Heero standing next to… those lover stealing bastards! Both ignoring the fact that Wufei wasn't their lover. Trowa growled, yanking furiously at his bonds while Quatre glared at the others. The gags were removed the minute they calmed down a little.
“Why have you brought those two into my house?”
Heero glanced briefly at his companions. “Who them?” he smirked at the frown thrown his way. “That Quatre is one of the questions we have. What is it you have against Malcom and Kyle you've only just met Malcom before your trip and hell you don't even really know Kyle?”
“Because that son of a bitch is trying to take Wufei away from us!” Shocked silence followed Quatre's outburst. Quatre blinked, he hadn't really meant to say that out loud. Stunned the others ignored Trowa's furious nodding. Duo blinked confused before shaking his head and clearing his throat.
“I think I speak for everyone here when I say HUH?”
Trowa sighed defeated and slumped in his chair. “For awhile now Quatre and I have been trying to bring Wufei into our relationship.” He ignored Duo's quirked eyebrow. “We didn't want to move to fast and scare him away so we were taking our time.” Heero snorted.
“Just how long have you been planning this?” Quatre flinched slightly as Malcom spoke.
“Since before the war ended.” He replied refusing to look at the man.
Duo whistled, “Damn man any slower and ya'd been going backwards.”
Trowa flushed before tugging at his bonds again. “You know how Wufei is. If we had tried to push him, he'd have disappeared and we'd never had seen him again.” Quatre freed his arms and sat forward, rubbing his wrists.
“We finally got him to move in with us even if it was into the spare bedroom and not ours.”
“So what problem did you have with me?” Malcom's deep voice interrupted.
Quatre glared briefly and the others gasped at the pain shining so brightly in his eyes.
“You had not even known him a full day before you tried to take him. He's ours, you two can't have him.” Quatre whipped his tears away and moved to undo Trowa's bonds. “I was so jealous and scared. I was afraid Malcom was going to take him from us before we had a chance to tell Wufei what we thought. That we wanted him as a partner not just at work.” Trowa wrapped Quatre's trembling form up in his arms.
“But after the way we acted I doubt Wufei wants anything to do with us. He won't even talk to us now.”
Duo inspected his nails. “Doesn't really matter anymore now.”
“Why?” Trowa turned fearful eyes to Kyle and Malcom as if expecting to find Wufei between them.
“Because as we speak he's either still on his way or already headed to the Preventers unit stationed across the country.”
“WHAT!”
“As a matter of fact, already we got a call from a landlord and Wufei has a key to an apartment in his possession.”
Heero hide his smirk carefully while Malcom and Kyle just blinked. Duo may not lie but he sure as hell lead people on a merry chase around it.
Quatre broke down and sobbed, holding tightly to Trowa. Trowa buried his head, tears falling unchecked down his face, soaking Quatre's hair.
“We lost him, we lost him! Gods this is all my fault!” Quatre clutched tighter to Trowa as his sobs raked his body.
“What your not going to case after him?” Duo asked.
“He left. Maybe its time we let him go.” Trowa whispered.
Duo's jaw clenched, oh hell no. “Ya your probably right to let him go.”
Heero's jaw dropped and he spun around to face his lover. “After all there's a huge gay community there and Wufei is exotic so he shouldn't have any problems getting a man.” He glanced at Heero locking eyes, “everyone knows Asians are hot.”
Heero blushed but before he could respond Quatre jumped up. “Oh hell no!
He is way to innocent to get in the middle of some lust starved idiots!” He fumbled in his pockets for his phone. “Dammit if he wanted gay sex he didn't have to go across the fucking country to find it. We are more than willing to give him a marathon right here!”
Duo burst out laughing at his words, leaning against Heero to keep him on his feet. Malcom's eyes glazed over at the image Quatre's words created while Kyle glared at him jealously.
“Oh god I can't breath!” Duo slipped out of Heero's grip and hit the floor.
“Ha ha ha ha ha ha!” Quatre stared stunned at the display before him. Duo struggled to get his laughter under control but one look at the two confused faces set him off again. Finally Heero got control back by slapping Duo across the back of his head. Scowling Duo straightened back up again.
“You idiots are so fucking stupid.” Duo tipped the water back and grabbed a seat. “How the hell would Wufei know you were willing to give him tail if you never said anything? You can't very well expect the man to be willing to jump between a committed couple? You do realize how much honor that man has?”
“What the hell do you expect us to do? He's gone!” Trowa grabbed a water out of the fried pausing before grabbing another for Quatre.
“Look stupid,” Malcom ignored Quatre's glare, “we sent Wufei to go close up our old apartment and settle things with our old job. He's not going there to stay so dry your eyes and chill out.”
“Well why the hell didn't you say that to begin with! Shit we need to pack!”
Quatre jumped out of his seat and raced down the hall. “Come on Trowa some one's going to hit on the cute guy moving furniture in some apartment.”
“We don't even know how long he's going to be there Quatre and unless these two tell us, we have no idea where he is.” Trowa remarked yet got up to grab the suitcases out of the hall closet. Quatre came stumbling out of the bedroom, clothes and hair in disarray.
“Please you must tell us! We need to tell Wufei how we feel.” Kyle stared him down before sighing and writing his old address down. Quatre grabbed it with a quick thanks. He ran back down the hall calling over his shoulder, “although we would have gotten it regardless.” He laughed at Kyle's stunned face. He darted back for a moment. “Oh and don't think for a moment you two,” he pointed at Heero and Duo, “that we didn't notice what was going on between you two.” He grinned at the blush that filled both their faces, “Duo you have your own Asian now, stay away from ours.” He darted back down the hall at Duo's surprised squeak.
