Chapter 31:
“So I see they've gotten into trouble already.” Wufei drawled walking through the deserted gym area. As ordered, all the other inmates had vacated. He sniffed at their behavior. No onna could possibly be that bad. But then again, there were too many unknowns about the colony to determine that. Silently, he moved to do the same having nothing better to do.
It wasn't long since he left the area when he ran into someone. It was girl.
“Oh, sorry `bout that.” The girl apologized. She bowed shallowly hiding her almond shaped eyes behind her unruly bangs momentarily. When she straightened she grinned widely. “Name's Kelsea but you can call me Kage.” She offered her hand that Wufei felt almost compelled to take. He did so.
“Chang Wufei.”
“Nice meetin' ya. Have you seen a girl about five-four with shoulder length black hair? Her name's Maree.”
“Uh…no I haven't.”
”Darn! I wanted to catch her before she went to that agent trainee thingy.”

“Jax Conelly, Trey Conelly, Jacob Martinez, Maree, Xavier Romerez…all is present?” Cold eyes looked over the youth standing before them. All were fit and capable of becoming agents and so much more. It was the so much more that would really pose as a problem however.
“My name is J. You will go through tests, physicals and paperwork here and head towards the training area if you pass me.” J stalked up the row of rookies and inmates alike eying them carefully. Finally he stopped before the only female of the group. He `hmm-ed' thoughtfully before looking down at the clipboard in his hand.
Maree, no last name, was five-five with an even brown complexion, clear ebony eyes, rich black shoulder length hair and a soccer player's build. Perfect specimen indeed.
“How old are you, girl?” the old scientist asked gruffly. He frowned when he only received silence as an answer. “What is your age, girl?” He rephrased stepping a little closer to the person in question.
Maree looked down at him and sniffed. “If I am correct, you have my name on paper. You address me by that or you won't get an answer at all.” She stated coldly. Inwardly she grinned as the elderly man turned an interesting shade of red.
“You're very disrespectful; I'll have to write that down.” J sneered.
“By all means, go ahead.” Maree countered.
J scrolled the bit of information down angrily. He mentally grimaced at the angry scratching sounds his pen made as he wrote. Slowly, he stepped away attempting to gather what little professionalism he had left. “Jax Conelly, 23, Japanese-Latino-AmJasonan.”
“Yes, Sir.” Jax saluted. He was a young man from the Earthside FBI. Three years in the bureau along with five more years in the air force. J nodded at the information before scanning over the youth's physique. He was six-one with a football player's build, pale bronze skin, almond shaped violet eyes, short spiked black hair…..another perfect specimen.
“Trey Conelly, 21, Japanese-Latino-AmJasonan.”
Trey looked up at the sound of his name. Since he made no move to speak, J went on to the visual evaluation. Trey was six-one, lean almost supple build, olive bronze complexion, thick black hair kept back in a ponytail, wide eyes with swirls of blue, violet and green……perfect specimen again.
The youth had spent some time in the marines, scrapyards, and was a self defense teacher for two years.
J moved on finding the last two men to be the usual hulking prisoner. The ones that thought they were tough enough to be in the SOPA division because they could stand in 30g. The question was if they could walk in it but that would be answered soon enough. “Let the analyzing begin.”

Talim stared emptily out into the darkness of the room. Every so often a tremor would run through his body as he remembered his encounter with Serpent. “How….how long have you been here?” He asked. He didn't expect an answer but his nerves were shot. Talking was the only way to get them back under control.
As expected, he didn't get an answer.
“Whatever, wasn't expecting an answer really.” He said truthfully. “My name's Diablo and from what I'm told, your name is Shai. I'll warn you not to try anything though. I've had my tolerance for being molested passed today. Try next week if I'm still here.” He sighed and moved through the darkness. He purposely kept his gaze from locking onto anything making it easier to make out the shapes of the furniture they were allowed. Eventually, he found his bed and sat down.
Across the room, Shai cocked his head at the strange youth. He felt compelled to talk to the boy about how he came to be in a place like this. Realizing this, he winced and turned away to stare into the darkness. His icy blue eyes glittered coldly.
“They say, eyes are the windows to your soul.” Talim said. “Why are yours cracked?”
Shai looked back in surprise.
“You'd have to get up close to notice it but I can see it from here. There's a line…kinda like white lightning going down your iris. Why is that?” Talim asked once again moving to lie on his bed completely. “I'm just wondering if you know cos my friend, Heero, has one. You can barely see it but its there. I've been with him long enough to see it. It looks like it was visible at one point…only now it's…covered up. Hell, maybe I have one too.” The youth yawned heavily then turned away from the older inmate. “Bet you've had a hell of a life too….” He trailed off as his body finally succumbed to its fatigue.
Shai stared at the boy's sleeping form. A vague sense of companionship threatened to rise inside him. He squashed it brutally convincing himself that he was better off alone. He'd done good so far. //I…I can have him loose in the public. Look at him! He's nothing but a monster now!!// With that memory in mind, he let sleep take him only to be woken up a mere two hours later.
He blinked groggily towards his visitor and frowned. He couldn't hear anything. Then why was he awake? Slowly, he stood stretching his long legs as he went. He stalked across the room and stared down at the younger inmate. Sure enough, the redhead was tossing and turning in the throes of some kind of nightmare.
//Let him be, he won't die from it.// Yes, he wouldn't die from it. It was just a bad dream.
“DON'T TOUCH ME!!!” Talim shrieked jolting up from his bed. He looked around the room anxiously finding it brighter than before. His breath came out in ragged short breaths.
Without thinking, Shai reached out the teen intending to rest his hand on his shoulder to let him know that he was awake. Instead, his hand was kicked away hard enough to cause the appendage to tingle.
“Don't you fucking touch me!!” Talim shouted again backpedaling towards the corner of his bed. He glared murderously for a few seconds before beginning to tremble violently. “Just leave me alone. Why do you want to hurt me?” He asked brokenly.
Shai cocked his head at the childlike tone. //Is he like me?// He sat on the bed slowly and simply stared curiously. //Who has hurt him so badly? Is he like me?//

“So you put them in solitary confinement.” Knight commented looking over the new updates for the day. “And one of the inmates is missing. Might I ask which one?”
Shaharra stared back at him coolly. “Quazie…the big one.”
“Ah, and how does someone so large go missing?”
“Beats the shit out of me.”
Knight only sighed and rubbed at his temples slowly. “Back to the solitary confinements. Who's rooming with who?”
“Serpent is with Pebbles, Duo is with Heero, Quatre is with Amber and Talim is with Shai.”
“Amber is in solitary confinement?”
“We found another blade on her, switchblade this time.”
“Well….and you room Talim with Shai?”
Shaharra shrugged confidently. “I don't think your son with harm him in any way. Who knows, they may be kindred spirits.”
”And Chef?”
“Infirmary.”
“Ah…I guess everything is up to par as it can get. Will you be supervising the new recruits?”
”I'll be there as soon as I'm done here.”
“Very well, you're dismissed.”
