Chapter 33:

Shaharra reclined in her swiveling office chair grinning pleasantly to herself. Her amused brown eyes watched the videofeed of the survelliance cameras in front of her. They were stacked by threes in rows of twelve forming a semi circle around her. They were also grouped by sections of the prison. Being that it was late, not much activity shouldn've been seen at the moment. However, the feed showing Nita's cell said otherwise.

The hazel eyed girl had gotten in trouble no sooner had the others been placed into solitary confinment.
The redhead warden watched as the girl's legs disappeared into the ventilation shaft carrying oxygen and heat to the room. Eventually she'd have to convince Knight to recruit the young troublemaker. At least then her skills would be put to some use other than providing the agents with a good game of hide and go seek.

Nita squirmed into the vent as quickly as she could. No doubt Shaharra knew she was out already. How far she got depended on how fast the sadistic woman counted to 3932470394. If she was lucky, it would take her a while or she would forget all together. Shuffling quickly she shimmied through with the pressing cold of metal all around her. And to think that she had been claustaphobic no more than a few months ago.

There was no telling how much time passed before the first turn came up. The young prisoner took it coming to a fork not too long afterwards. She took a left finding an outlet over a brightly lit room. Carefully she peeked out. Her curiosity piqued as she viewed ropes and ropes of wires leading to some unknown source.

"What's his status, G?"

"His brain isn't hemoraging as much anymore and the download is at 20%, however, the seizures are intensifying and I do believe that there is an anerism developing at the base of his skull."

"Very well."

Nita shifted in an attempted to get a better look around the room. At the new angle she could see a man's foot quivering over the side of a Frankenstien table. Every now and then, his leg would kick violently only to fall back into the series of muscle spasms. "What the hell." She bunched her body up to change her body again being careful not to make a sound.

"His heart rate has been elevated for some time now."

"No ruptures?"
"No, none at all."

A man with an oddly shaped haircut came into view. He turned his head back to the console as he spoke to the other presence.

"I suppose now, it wouldn't matter if I left the room. His brain will either take or implode, it all depends on him." The man stood brushing at the white lab coat he wore. He nodded once before turning to leave. "Were there anymore volunteers?"

"One..."

"Beggers can't be choosers, I suppose."

With that, the man left along with the other. Once the room fell silent, Nita removed the small square of metal keeping her from entering the room. She dropped in silently bending at the knees so her feet made no sounds. A quick survey of the room, informed her that she was in something like the Twilight Zone. Humming the theme song to herself quietly, she turned and tensed.

"I know you don't I, big guy?" She said softly. She circled the table Quazie was laying on slowly. Her eyes held some compassion as she took in the pained look in his face. "Let's get you out of here." She slowly reached for the visor over the man's eyes. She was in the process of lifting it when the door opened. She dropped low not making any noise.

"I think I'm getting a little senile...forgetting the documents. Unacceptable." G muttered to himself. He reached for the folder holding the papers he needed and paused. His beady eyes flickered up to the now open vent in the ceiling. Frowning, he grabbed the folder and left the room.

Nita stood slowly and moved towards the door. She pressed her back to the wall off to the side listening as the old man's footsteps faded in the background. //I'll have to come for the big guy later// She thought as she cracked the door. She poked her head through slowly finding the hallway empty. She slunk out still crouched low to the ground.

"Seems that we have a spy." Nita turned sharply towards the voice. G stepped back around the corner smiling mockingly. J followed suite at the opposite end of the hall. "And just when we were in the need of a new test subject."

"Test subject." Nita narrowed her eyes slowly slinking away from the beak nosed man only to remember that there was another geezer on her other side. "Who...me?" She pointed to herself looking from side to side.

"Now come with us and we might leave you with most of your free will." J drawled.

"Ah, hell no." Nita grumbled taking a sharp turn towards G. G tensed and watched the girl approach him with deadly speed. For someone to move so freely in the gravity the colony was under was exceptional. No matter. He took a stance and watched the teen calculatingly. Nita smirked up at him eyes glittering lethally. She let her legs go from under her so that she was sliding across the floor in baseball player fashion. She slid through G's slightly spread legs and quickly kicked to her feet. She took down the hall quickly cackling loudly as she went.

G and J sweatdropped. "Should we go after her?"

"Leave her. Its just a matter of time."

"Now where the hell am I?" Nita mumbled turning yet another color. Everything looked the same, was the same. The only difference was the sudden smell of sanitizer. Just for a change, she stopped and opened one of the many doors at her disposal. The room it revealed was one of the deluxe hospital rooms. It had a blue carpet with whitewash walls. A bookshelf was on the wall opposite to the entrance. A recliner was beside it. Leaning in further, she could see there was a queen size bed to the right with someone in it.

That someone tossed and turned to face her.....and it was like staring in a mirror.

"What...the...fuck..." She cursed in shock. Her wide eyes still riveted on the woman occupying the room.

Gypsie could feel the eyes of someone on her. She tossed and turned restlessly. It was hard to sleep with someone watching her. Agitated, she opened her eyes to glare at her unexpected visitor. The retort she was ready to give that person died on her lips as she took in the youth in her door. She sat up quickly heart beating away in her chest. Tears welled in her eyes. "Shenita?"

Nita jumped when the woman spoke. Her eyes lost all light as she took in the woman, no her mother. She sneered giving the woman no false impressions. She spun sharply not bothering to wait to see if she had something to say.

Gypsie reached unconsciously towards the fleeing girl. The tears that had quivered at the edges of her eyes fell along with her outstretched hand. "Shenita...."

Nita closed her eyes against the tears the threatened to well. She was not going to cry over a woman that she didn't know. Why should she? So busy fighting against the emotional turmoil building inside her, she didn't notice that she had made it to the outside of the infimary and onto the prisoner grounds where Havoc and Shaharra waited for her.

"Hey, Nita, time to go back." Shaharra stated fully expecting the youth to take off and give her a bit of a chase. She was disappointed and a little concerned with the dulled resigned look in the girl's eyes.

Nita smiled bitterly before raising her hands just above her waist. "Fine, I'll go back." She said lowering her head so her bangs shadowed her face. The bitter smile grew wider as the first tear escaped her.

Wufei walked into his hut sighing to himself. The gravity didn't seem as pressing as before. In fact, it was a refreshing challenge to his body that he hadn't had in a while. He looked around the room absently finding Badunda in the very same position he'd been in for the pass day and a half. If his sense of time was correct, the elderly man only had a few more days until his execution. How he could sit theree and accept his wrongful incarceration was beyond the raven haired teen.

Silently, he sat at the table in the middle of the room and closed his eyes. It was peaceful having the man around. No doubt he'd be honored in his memory.

"Will you mourn me, Dragon?" Badunda asked.

"I cannot mourn a person I have only known for a few days, however, I suppose I can mourn a fallen warrior." Wufei answered forcing his body to relax. "You're an honorable man to have taken your fate so acceptingly."

"Great words from such a intelligent youth. I am honored."

"No, I am honored to be able to carry on the memory of your great deeds."

"You flatter this old man, Dragon."

Wufei blushed lightly. A ghost of a smile formed on his lips. "Flattery is wasted if the words are untrue."

"Thank you, Dragon."
