Disclaimer: All right, let's get this straight. - I at no point will ever own Gundam Wing as it belongs to its wonderful creators and many different companies that have premiered and animated it. The only thing I own is a box of bubble gum and my warped sense of mind. In addition, as much as I love the GW boys, I can only wish to have them at my beck-and-call.

Warnings: yaoi/shonen-ai (3x2/main, 1&2, 4&3, 5&2more pairings will evolve later on), ncs, angst, drama, some humor, romance; etc.

Taki-Nobori: Chapter 4 - Kon'i

By: Liz a.k.a-Kochiyami

(Third Person POV)

As Duo entered the lunch area, he tried to find a decent line to get some food from. Except, almost all the lines had tons of kids lined up already. Grumbling softly, he marched his way to the nearest one, hoping that he'd get some food before lunch ended.

......

"Did you see, Trowa?" a soft but deep voice said.

"What do you mean Heero, see what?" Hearing Heero talk voluntarily somewhat shocked Trowa. It wasn't everyday Heero would actually do something like that. If Heero took some time to actually mention something to him, it must've been highly intriguing or important.

"That girl with the long braid. The one we saw on Friday at the mall." That rang a bell. "She's coming here. She's even in my first class. Apparently a freshman. Also, she seems to be already picked out by the bakayaro, James." That was already a bad sign for the poor girl. To have grabbed the attention of James Landers, it was bad news to anyone. There was nothing that idiot wouldn't do to get what he wanted.

"Why are you telling me this?" Trowa asked levelly. "We don't even know the girl. What's it to us?" He didn't receive an answer at his questions. Only silence. It seemed that Heero was deep in thought once again. Sighing, Trowa set his attention on his lunch once more.

.......

A happy Duo was a safe Duo. Moreover, if a safe Duo is a happy Duo, then the lunch lady is a relieved Lady. A lesson that was to be learned by all who witnessed Duo's explosion of being held back by a hideously long lunch line from his precious, much needed food. Or, so the few survivors say. Let's just say, it's a story to tell at a more... acute time.

Anyways, Duo had finally received his lunch and was happily making his way to a vacant lunch table. However, as he finally sat down and starts to dig in, he was startled out of his concentration as he heard someone say a meek `Hello' in his direction.

.......

(First Person POV)

I don't know what actually made me do this. I've never done something like this! God, I'm so stupid to even try. I know what would happen to anyone I talk to, or is even nice to me. Something would happen to them, the other people would make sure of that. However, when I spotted him walking down the hallway, I couldn't help myself. I did try to talk some sense into my dreams; it didn't work. I soon convinced myself that I should just get it over with. I didn't even know I had made myself unconsciously seek him out in the lunch area. I was somewhat safe there; some teachers actually ate lunch outside with us too. I wasn't really paying any attention to where I was going, just seeking out blinding I suppose. I didn't notice, until I was standing right in front of the lunch table he had sat down at to eat his lunch. I've been standing here for almost two minutes now. He seems too focused on eating that he doesn't even notice me. I guess I need to actually talk up a bit.

"H-hello?" I said nervously. My voice seemed to jot him out of his concentration. He looked up at me curiously, most likely wondering who a dope like me was. It shocked me though, when he grinned widely and laughed out a bit.

"Hi!" He cheerfully said. "Care to sit?"

I was hesitant. No one's even asked me to do so before. However, before I could doubt myself about his sincerity, I sat myself down in front of him.

"Are you new here? Freshman?" I shook my head to his questions. It seemed to make his grin soften, as he must have realized exactly how nervous I was right now.

"Well, can you tell me your name? If you want that is..." He was just smiling reassuringly to me. I guess he was trying to seem like less of a threat. Should I tell him? I mean, I do want someone to be my friend... but after all this time...

"It's WuFei Chang." I said to him. "And wh-what's yours?" I cringed at how weak I sounded. I needed to seem stronger than I was acting. But, how long would he be safe? They always do something to someone who actually is nice to me...

"Interesting name you've got there. My name's Duo, Duo Maxwell. It's very nice to meet you, WuFei." He held out his hand to me, his grin a lot bigger and his eyes all the more brighter. And something just clicked in me. I felt... happier just looking at that expression on his face. I let myself smile some, trying to depress the nervous jot I received as I took his hand in mine. I gave it a light shake and my courage doubled. After a few seconds, I let go of his hand, and I shyly folded my hands in my lap.

"You're quite nervous... there's no reason to be." I was somewhat shocked at his kind words. "I don't bite." He winked at me. "So, what grade are you in exactly? I can't really tell..."

"I'm just a sophomore," I blurted out. "And I know for sure you're a Freshman. `can tell you know." I stopped right then. I wanted to so badly ask him if he would like to be friends or something. Maybe just even ask to just have lunch with him. I couldn't find the courage I had just seconds before, I was left in my petty nervousness once again.

"Hm, WuFei, do you mind if you and I, well, if you and I have lunch together? During school I mean." I guess the look I was giving him at that moment was quite amusing because he busted out in laughter. "-`m sorry! Haha... but that look! ahem sorry... I couldn't help it, really. Nevertheless, my offer still stands if you want it."

A flood of different emotions washed over me as I realized what a kind offer he had just given me. It was the first time this had ever happened, I only always hoped. But here was this boy, someone who didn't know me, nor did he know what would happen to him for even talking to me nicely, was giving up such a kind offer. I think my face broke out into such a wide grin, that I surprised even him. I was just so happy right now! Enthusiastically I confirmed my opinion on the offer with a happy `yes, I'd be happy to!'

For the rest of lunch, he and I talked a bit about different things of our likings. And for once, I was happy.

.......

(Third Person POV)

Lunch for Duo had ended quite nicely. He had met someone who would be a good person to talk to and maybe be a good acquaintance in the future. Lunch had really brought his spirits up, and he happily met up with Zechs to be lead to his second to last class of the day.

Since he'd already had four classes earlier, he now only had two more left before the day was over. Ah, almost over, then I can go back home...He had made it to class at a decent time, so this time he was hoping he'd have more available seats to choose from.

Upon entering the room, he took a brief sweep of it with his eyes. What he found certainly surprised him.

In the second to last aisle of desks that was nearest to the windows, sat the one boy whose eyes had been hunting most of his dreams since Friday. It's him! The guy that has that odd emotionally detached façade! Duo shivered as he remembered the eeriness of those particular dreams. He didn't like them much. They made him feel like he was being put on display and being picked from the inside out. Shaking his head slightly, he forced himself away from his thoughts so he could find a decent seat. He was disappointed to find that other students actually had the same idea he had, that is, to be early. The only seats that were left were the ones in the back aisle, mostly near the emerald-eyed boy. How...odd. The thought was quickly pushed aside.

Sighing, he trekked his way across the room to sit in the very back. As he approached the green-eyed boy's seat however, he felt himself being frozen in place at the penetrating look he received from the other boy.

Duo stood there, his mask firmly established, as he didn't want those piercing green eyes to see into his inter-most soul; as he feared they would. As soon as those eyes pierced at him, they left his line of sight as the retreated back to the book on the boy's desk. Taking a deep breath, Duo felt all the tension he didn't realize that had gathered, start to fade. He turned away from the other boy, but just as he did so, he was stopped by a low, monotone like voice.

"I remember you." He heard. "At the mall. I remember bumping into you."

Duo was somewhat surprised. He did not expect the boy to actually acknowledge their meeting. He looked back down at the top of the boy's head. "Do you now." He said (somewhat) politely. "I didn't know you went here." It was a long while before the green-eyed boy answered. Duo had almost thought that the conversation was over and was (again) starting to make his way to his chosen seat.

"I couldn't forget such hair as yours." Moreover, just as simple as that statement was, it made Duo blush a soft pink, barely noticeable.

"Ah...well." It was an interesting moment. Just imagine, the one ever-ready-for-a-chat Duo was speechless at such a simple comment. "Ah..." Holding out his hand in front of the other boy's face, "I'm Duo Maxwell. I wish we could have met, maybe, on other terms than on Friday."

Looking at the hand with a nano-second of a spark of interest, the boy took Duo's hand and shook it with a gentle amusement.

"Trowa Barton."

Nodding to each other, they separated their hands.

With his mask still in place throughout the whole introduction and conversation with Trowa, Duo smiled his masked smile and just said a pleasant `It's nice to meet you' and received one in return.

A few minutes passed by before the bell rang and the class started smoothly. However, during the whole time of class, Duo couldn't help but remember the intense feeling he felt when those green-eyes were settled on him.

The feeling was unnerving, to say the least. He never found someone who actually invoked such a feeling. Duo just couldn't shake off the feeling he could not control.

Piercing my soul...as if he could see right through me...
