Relena paid little attention to her brother's last comment. She knew Heero could never hurt her after his several failed attempts to kill her. She looked back at him and saddened at his ghostly white complication. She had looked so forward to seeing his naturally tan face greet her on Earth, but for now this would have to do. His short, raspy breaths worried her further. He looked at her and tried to reassure her that he would be fine. Of course it did little to make her worry stop. Sally had told her the extent of his injuries. She gathered his left hand in her hands. It, too, was as pale as his face was. Bandages ran over his arms where Sally had popped the greenish yellow substances from the infected areas. She still could hear the slight whimpers Heero gave off as Sally did the painful process of cleaning them and packing the wounds with medicine. It pained her to see him in this weakened state. She found comfort in the fact he had painkillers in him and he felt little pain.
Heero stared at her, feeling his emotions swirling inside himself. She had always done this to him when she was around. He felt so exhausted for his ordeals. He stayed awake to stare at her. Just looking at her made his pain ease off some. His thoughts raced and only one thing came across his mind that could analyze the emotions he felt for her. Could it be that he loved her? He smiled to himself and nodded to himself, agreeing. He felt Relena's hand come his forehead. She begun stroking his soft hair through her hands, delicately. The silent moment of her comforting him was broken. Heero heard the other gundam pilots moving out along with ship. He sat up, wanting to help. He hid the pain that his ribs sent in protest. Relena placed her hand gently on his chest and pushed back to the bed.
"No... You rest. They will take care of everything," Relena said.
As if to keep him from getting up again, she laid her head on his chest. The added weight pinned him to the bed, but it did not hurt him in the slightest. She smiled hearing the rhythm of his heart, proving that he was real and alive. She stroked his hair and occasionally brought her hand down to caress his cheek. Eventually, her actions allowed his body to relax and let him fall into a light slumber. She smiled, knowing that sleep was one of things his body needed. A few minutes passed and Sally walked into the room. She had a chart in her hands. Relena sat up, reluctantly, from Heero's warm chest.
"What's wrong?" Relena asked.
"Nothing is wrong I just need to check on him," Sally answered, staring at his sleeping form. "The results from his blood from earlier are done..."
"And..?" Relena questioned, her worry intensifying.
"He has traces of several different drugs in his system, but they are too long worn out to cause him harm. He has been dehydrated and malnutrition. Luckily, the infection in his arms and has not spread into his bloodstream yet. But other than that he should be fine. Right now he just needs to rest like he is doing," Sally answered, and injected a liquid into his IV. "Just an extra dosage of morphine to calm him."
Relena sighed and her worry ceased a little. She looked at Heero. Sally checked his vitals to confirm he was okay and stable for the moment. She smiled at Relena after seeing Heero was fine for the time being. Sally, silently, left the room and Relena laid her head back on his chest, listening to his breathing and heart beat. She was totally absorbed at looking at his handsome features. Silently, she wished that she could stay like this forever. She allowed her hand to run through his bangs. His hair was soft as feathers from an angel's wing. He had no tangles within them so that stroking the strains was much simpler. Sometimes Relena even wondered if he truly was an angel.
"Please don't leave me again," Relena whispered. "You give me the strength to go on..."
Heero nodded slightly in his sleep and made a slight noise. Relena smiled at his gesture and thanked him silently for agreeing. She just wished there was something more she could do for the weakened pilot. Comforting him was about all she could do. She stayed like this for an hour or so before Heero decided to wake up. Relena caressed his cheek as Prussian eyes stared at her.
----Meanwhile at Research Colony 11:35 PM----
Maya paced around her lab in frustration. She had heard the news that the gundam pilot had escaped. She was furious beyond what anyone had seen her in her life. Her plans had been fouled and she did not like it. She looked to various chemicals and formulas on her shelves and smirked. She wanted him back even if it meant civilian casualties. A shuttle was ready to take her where he was last seen. She grabbed a light green substance from the shelf. She looked at the vial in her hands and marveled at its beauty.
"With this he will not be able to resist me anymore..." Maya said and cackled a bit.
She placed the vial in her pocket and walked out of the lab. She grabbed a luggage bag on her way out. She went to the hanger and boarded the shuttle that awaited her. She was determined and would not come back without her precious prize in her arms, begging her to marry him. No longer did she care what her boss would think. Maya smirked as the shuttle lifted off. Her goal was near. Her shuttle passed Tenshi on its way. Zeion questioned why a shuttle would be sending out right as the battle plans were in their beginning stages. Tenshi imitated his fencing saber slashing the shuttle in half. Zeion knew who was in it and what she was up to. He could only hope that the gundam pilots could protect their fellow comrade from her wrath. Little did he know the other gundam pilots were dealing with the threat to Earth.
---Back at the Peacecraft Shuttle---
Relena was feeling tired and did not want to leave Heero's side. She attempted to make herself comfortable in her chair. She laid her head and arms on Heero's bed. He, too, was tired and exhausted. He noticed her trying to situate herself near him. He knew that no matter how much he would convince her to go to her own bed that she would refuse. He noticed how large the bed he is in was. He shifted to the side a bit, careful not to irritate any of his injuries. Relena looked at him, watching him shift. She welcomed the room for her. She curled up beside him wrapping her arms around his chest.
Heero tensed, having never been this close to another person since his father passed away. Relena noticed his muscles tensing up and stroked his hair to calm him. Soon, this action was enough to lure him into a peaceful slumber. She soon followed him into a light slumber as well. Even in her sleep, she still stroked his hair. He was aware of this, even in his dreams. It was around 2 am when this peaceful scene was disrupted. Relena's hand stopped moving. This awoken Heero, who was worried. Normally, he would not worry over such things, but he knew something was really wrong this time. He shook Relena and to no avail did she awaken. He noticed that she barely breathed. Many thoughts registered through his head, but one he had to do.
He noticed that there would be no way for him to get any help without getting up. He tore away the IV in his arm and stood on the floor. He slumped, favoring his left leg. His ribs protested in pain as did they rest of his exhausted body. He forced back all of the thoughts of pain and walked forward. He reached the interior of the shuttle and cursed at his luck of no one being in sight. Walking down a small array of stairs jarred his rib cage and he hissed in pain. This brought along Wufei and Trowa to the main lobby where Heero was. Heero could only thank the kami that they were light sleepers. They both were staring at him; angry that he had gotten up.
"Please.. get Sally... Relena.. she is not doing so well..." Heero said, stopping.
"You have told us sooner... I will wake her.." Wufei said, dashing off for Sally.
"I should have known it would happen sooner or later..." Trowa said, taking Heero's left arm over his shoulder and supporting his injured comrade.
Sally came running out a few moments later. She told Trowa to let Heero down on the nearby large leather couch in the room. Wufei waited nearby in the doorway in case he was needed further. Heero watched Sally examine Relena as he hid his fear for her. She finished her work. Sally frowned at the IV needle that was on the floor. She fetched a clean needle and reattached the tubing to the IV. She walked over to Heero in an attempt to hook him up to it. Heero pulled his arm back.
"Tell me what is wrong with her...first.." Heero demanded.
"Well for one... She has not been eating much as I know of in the past few days... That has drained her a lot... She has caused her body harm by doing so... It will take a day or two to get her on her feet again..." Sally answered.
"Hn..." Heero said, extending his arm out for Sally.
Sally inserted the needle and strapped it down ,securely to Heero. Heero looked at Relena, lying on the bed. She was pale and looked rather bad. He could do nothing for her as he watched her sleep. Trowa had left the room to get some much needed rest. Relena's hand unconsciously made a very slight stroking motion against the sheets, but nothing greeted it. Heero's heart pained at this. He knew what she wanted him. Sally smiled at the action. She gently lifted Heero and placed him beside Relena. Relena wrapped her arm around him and the other found his hair and begun to stroke it once more. Heero fell asleep soon afterwards. Sally smiled at the pair. She took a seat on the couch and slept there for the rest of the night.
It was around eight in the morning before Heero woke up. Relena was still curled by his side, fast asleep. Sally had long since left the room to help Hilde and the other girls cook breakfast for everyone. He turned and looked at her sleeping form. Her head using his chest as a pillow. He still found this kind of awkward since he was not use to close quarters affection yet. His thoughts were interrupted as he heard all too familiar footsteps approaching the room. His eyes narrowed in anger, knowing and fearing who was coming towards him. Pulling Relena close to him so she wouldn't awake, he sat up. A cackle could ne heard from behind him.
"So we meet again... Heero..." Maya said, smiling at him devilishly. She frowned at the site before her. She unconsciously allowed her fingers to brush against the gun hidden on herself.
"You.... How dare you come here!" Heero snapped, fire was burning in his eyes.
"Silly Heero... You knew I would come after you... I just can't leave you along until your mine..." Maya snickered.
Heero looked down at Relena and his eyes softened. Dare he tell Maya what she would hate to hear? "Well I am not yours!" he screamed, waking Relena slightly.
"So your princess awakes... You think you belong to her then? Ha! Face it I am much better than she'll ever be... At least with me you won't have to watch my every move as if it were my last.. I can defend myself unlike her," Maya replied.
"And unlike her, she shows concern towards me... You only want me because I am a pilot!" Heero yelled back. Relena shifted his protective embrace and looked up at him. She almost screamed upon seeing Maya.
"Heero...? What's going on...?" Relena asked, sounding exhausted.
Heero held her closer to himself and rocked her a bit. "Everything is fine, I can deal with this..." he said, comfortingly.
"Truly.. Heero, why don't you tell her who I really am? I am his future wife, Maya, at your service," Maya snickered.
"Heero...?" Relena said, looking at Heero confused.
"Don't listen to her... She only speaks of lies and false hopes..." Heero assured her.
Heero drew Relena in closer to himself. He decided that the best way to deal with this was to make as much noise as possible. That would alert the others so they could rid them of Maya. Maya fingered her gun once more. She pulled it from its holster and aimed for Relena, her eyes gleaming hatred. A smirk appeared on her face.
"Once I rid myself of her, Yui will be all mine..." Maya cackled.
