Pushing against the doors to enter the kitchen, Duo grinned as he noticed a strong energy emanating from outside the large glass doors that gave view to the wooded area behind the house. Heero frowned curiously, looking outside the window and back to look up to the man next to him. `What's he looking at?' He squinted his large eyes to see through the thick foliage, but came up with nothing of interest.
“I don't see anything.” He stated quietly, but also asking a question.
“You don't?” the taller of the two asked. “I'm surprised. Your half blood should enable you to sense him.” The look on the elder's face looked genuinely surprised and it only irked the other.
Heero glared up into lilac eyes. “I'm not a half breed,” he said with a quiet defiance.
Smirking, the other opted to remain silent and turned away from the window, walking towards the table. Watching the vampire take a seat, Heero glared, slightly angered with the dismissal, but followed him to sit across the table.
“Are you hungry?” Duo asked softly, not turning to face the boy across from him.
Heero ignored his stomach, “No.” The braided one nodded at the reply and finally turned to look into dark blue eyes. Heero raised one thin brown in question, “Well?” his voice was impatient.
The pale man only looked at him before leaning forward, calculating the Japanese singer's features carefully. Heero instinctively sat back when the other's face came closer, and knitted his brows in confusion at the action, “What?” he asked, looking skeptical.
“Nothing,” the other said slowly, but continued staring at the boy, “I'm just examining you.”
Heero made a face; his lip rising slightly, but something in the other's eyes caught his attention. Looking closer Heero could feel himself looking into those endless irises but wasn't looking at them at all. He was falling deep into them, he felt uprooted, like he was floating, but then something snapped and he felt a shock zap up his spine and leave his vertebrae tingling.
He looked away quickly, killing a cry in his throat, and shook his chocolate bangs from side to side in an attempt to clear his head. The violet-eyed man nodded to himself and sat back, “You're definitely not a mere human.”
This earned a heated glare from the younger brunette across from him, “What are you saying?” he asked in obvious annoyance.
The other merely grinned, “Only that I was right. You're an immortal, like myself.”
Pink lips curled in a sneer, “Just how in the hell would you know?” was muttered coldly.
Both auburn eyebrows raised momentarily, “It's simple. I tried to control you, but you resisted unconsciously.”
Heero looked down, `That's what I felt,' he thought to himself. Holding back a sigh of resentment, he lifted his lashes to look into dark eyes once more, “I can sense him,” he relinquished.
Duo nodded, his face serious, “He's coming.”
Heavy bangs shifted, as the youth nodded, “I know.”
Suddenly a slender Chinese youth walked through the glass doors, silently. Heero blinked taken aback, he'd sensed the other but hadn't thought he was going to literally walk through the glass. “You of all people know we can walk through solids,” the vampire stated, his eyes closed.
Heero only frowned, and opened his mouth to protest having his mind read without regard to his privacy. “Wufei.” The name was spoken like a knife slicing the air.
Said vampire merely raised an eyebrow in silent questioning, his eyes remaining closed. Angered at not being paid the respect of acknowledgment, Duo was suddenly behind the Asian, holding him off the ground by the back of the throat.
The surprised vampire hid it well, his demeanor remaining collected aside from the clenched his fists at his sides, “Put. Me. Down.” He seethed, wondering what would make his brother so protective of the thin boy at the table.
Duo's eyes were glowing with restrained anger, “Don't ever read his mind without my permission again,” he hissed, “Understood?” he asked.
The dangling man didn't understand, but answered quietly in a way that would keep the braided ancient satisfied, “Understood.”
Heero blinked and Duo was in his seat once again, and the one known as Wufei was standing with an unpleasant expression. “Brother,” Duo stated, extending his arms, “This is Heero Yuy. The last of kin.” His statement stopped the other whom straightened immediately, and looked with slightly widemed eyes to the small boy sitting at his table.
Said boy's brows knitted once again in opposition and confusion. “The last of the kin?” he asked.
Duo nodded, “I figured it out.” Wufei stared at the beautiful boy in amazement, and walked closer to examine him, mindful, however to keep his distance, lest he displease his `older brother'.
The Japanese glared at the vampire in his face, “Duo,” he intoned, turning away from the one in front of him, “What are you talking about?”
The vampire grinned a feral grin, “I know exactly who you are now.”
Heero only continued his harsh glare, “I thought you already knew who I was.”
Chestnut bangs swayed gently as the vampire shook his head slowly, “No,” he said and took a deep breath, “I only knew that you had tremendous power, and that if the vampyrs wanted you then so did I.”
Hearing this, the small singer made a disgusted face, “You took me away from my friends and my home for this childish reason?” he asked in an incredulous tone.
Duo blew the breath he was holding into his bangs “No, it's more then that. You know it is.” He tried to reason. But the other simply linked his arms across his chest defensively.
“Leave him be and explain how you know he's the last of kin.” The Chinese vampire interrupted.
Duo's eyes darted to dark brown, and he continued, “The last of kin is…” he trailed off trying to decipher how to explain this painful revelation. “The last of kin is sort of a mutt of the superior species.”
Heero, still with crossed arms, tried to feign disinterest as he listened. “The way I was told is that he will be birthed of a hybrid mother; half angel and half demon. Her power will be coveted to an extent of abuse and violation.”
Heero frowned looking out the window, and beyond the forest to dwell in his own thoughts. Those words brought unwanted memories forward. He could see them brutally maiming and raping her even past the point of death. He closed his eyes tightly in an attempt to block out the visions, and tried to focus on what the longhaired vampire was saying.
“Essentially your mother was half demon and half angel. And it was preordained that she would be forced to birth the last of kin, you.” Duo stated, his indigo eyes piercing through Heero's.
“Yes, yes we know,” Wufei said in an exasperated tone, “but what of the last of kin? What shall be the extent of his blood line?”
Duo's eyes softened in pity at the thought, “He knows.” Heero's eyes studied the ground intensely as he waited for the other to continue.
“Go on.” Wufei coaxed.
Violet eyes closed and opened slowly, “The hybrid mother was to mate willingly or not with a turned vampire. The turned vampire must still be in the process of the change, however. So that he's not quite vampire and not quite human, but he's both.”
“That means I am human but I'm not, and I am vampire but I'm not.” The Japanese spoke up, finally dragging his eyes from the floor to look into Duo's.
The other nodded, “Yes, and in order for your power to be realized you must choose a mate from one of the races. Whichever species you mate with, that fraction of your blood takes over, turning you into a pure breed. Angel, Demon, Human…” he paused his gaze intense, “or Vampire.
Heero nodded again, his eyes coming to focus on the table in front of him, “I'm going out,” he stated, and stood from the chair to the glass sliding doors.
Immediately the two vampires were on either side of him, “You can't go out there,” the Chinese intoned.
The blue-eyed boy frowned at being told what to do, “The hell I can't.” he rebutted and reached for the handle only to have his wrist grabbed.
“No, Heero. We're not letting you go. There are demons out there that work for the vampyrs. You could be taken.” Violet eyes bore into his own at the command.
A full lip rose slightly, “I'm going for a walk, and no one is going with me or going to stop me,” he stated, his tone even.
Duo frowned his temper flaring, “You're not going.” He ordered, leaving no room for argument.
Heero's chest rose and fell deeply as he held back and angry outburst, “Fine.” He hissed through clenched teeth, and spun on his heel stomping out of the kitchen.
Duo sighed watching the boy walk out the doors, “We did it for his protection.” The Chinese said, placing a hand on his brother's shoulder, “He'll see it soon enough.” Duo only nodded still starring at the empty space.
Knowing he would find a way outside, Heero hurried to Duo's room. Opening the windows, he slipped out and down the walls into the gardens of the estate. He sighed out in relief after scaling down the side of the house, and sneaked out of view, into the nearby surroundings.
`How dare they…' He thought to himself, looking around the trees as he wandered through them. `They act like I'm some child to be protected, like a porcelain doll…'
Gradually, the serene settings calmed the youth enough to reflect on his newly laid out future. `My mother, a hybrid, was raped…they hurt her so much…' His large eyes welled at the images that harassed him.
`But she was able to love me so much.' As he walked he paused, noticing a small pond. Walking closer to it, he felt himself relax as he looked across it. Suddenly cold wind blew over the water, causing it to ripple and bubble.
Heero frowned as the temperature dropped and his skin began to pebble from the cold, `what's happening?' he thought. Heero gasped, taking a step back from the pond, when suddenly dark shadows began to climb out from it.
The eerie shadows stalked closer until they began to walk on land. The small Japanese couldn't believe what he was seeing and turned around as all his instincts screamed for him to run.
Lifting one foot after another, the teen darted through the clearing, panting in fear, `Duo help me…' was his only thought as he made a mad dash towards the house. The blue-eyed boy suddenly felt himself falling and looked down to see his foot trapped under a root, as he hit the ground. Coughing out dust, and trying to catch his breath, the youth held in a yell as he saw a devilish shadow cast over him.
The shadows seemed to grin down on him like predators before their prey as they closed in. Heero gulped, not beyond screaming at this point, and released a series of shouts as the shadows lifted him up carried him back to the pond, kicking and struggling.
The singer released one last head-splitting scream before he was knocked unconscious, the world around him growing dark. `No…' was his last thought as he fell into defeat. The shadows lifted the slender boy and dragged him under the waters of the pond.
Duo jumped as a cold hand clenched his gut, and a nervous feeling settled over him. He flew up to his room looking for the one he was growing in affections towards but stopped as he noticed the open window. Mouth agape he jumped out the window, landing on both feet from the three-story jump, and began to run through the forest fluidly.
As he ran, out of the corner of his eye, he could see Trowa to his left and Wufei to his right. “The pond.” Trowa uttered as he swiftly ran into the clearing in time to hear Heero's final scream, and watch as the shadows disappeared beneath the waters of his pond.
Growling, Duo's eyes glowed brightly in rage, as his fangs were barred menacingly, “Damnit!” he yelled.
“We'll never catch them.” Wufei muttered, watching after the shadows disappeared, “Treize shouldn't be hard to find.”
Duo nodded glaring after the shadow demons, “I'm going to kill every last one of them for touching him.” He muttered in a low tone, and turned to run back to the house.
