Judoh's Rain

"Time wasted is time lost. Is that how you want to be? Tell me this, one who looks to see, can you find a way to save this damned city? Or will you let drown in it's own waters?"

These were words she heard every night in her sleep. She needed to know what they ment and how to get rid of them. Tara was this girls name and she was knowlageable only about things that no one had ever heard of. But that did not stop her from learning it. Today she sat at her table and wrote down what she needed for the day. After that she did her daily routine and then went back to sleep and back to those words that made her nightmares seem happy. But it was these words that would create a new place for her to be herself. A new person would rise from her and become something she never new she could be. All her life Tara has been a good little girl and some days she was sick of it. But now was the time for her to be someone else, someone so different from the person she knew she was...

Tara woke up to be very cold. She shivered as she sat up and looked around the room. It was dark and run down. Most certainly not fit to live in. A window to her left was broken and that was the source of the cold. It was raining outside and that just made it even colder. Tara stood up and walked over to the window and looked outside. She was on a high floor and the street looked just as bad as the room she was in. She was a loss for words. She had no idea where she was at this time, although she would remember soon enough. As Tara stood at the window she heard music, no wait it was a gutiar playing. She reconized that song, it was Kia. Tara knew now that she was in Judoh, and it was one of the things she knew a lot about. But how did she get here? Well, she wasn't thinking about that right now, all she wanted was to get outta this place. So she searced for the door and when she found it she left the room. The halls were in terrible condition and when she reached the bottom of the stairs she grabbed a news paper and used it as an umbrella. First things first, find a place to live. Well, Tara didn't have any money so she needed a job of some kind. But the only kind of work she knew was casino work. So Tara would go down to the casino and apply for a job. But where would she find the casino?

She walked down the streets and somehow found her way to the casino and walked inside. She was amazed at what she saw. She had never really seen the inside of the casino in Judoh before. She walked upto a man who worked in the Cage and asked where she might be able to get an application. He told her where to go and she thanked him and left. She followed his directions and came to an office. There she asked for an application but instead of getting one she was told to go into another office. Tara entered and was told to sit down in a chair.

"So, you want a job correct?" Asked the man.

"Yes sir, I do," Tara replied.

"What is your name?"

"Tara."

"My name is Mr. Hanaichi, I'm in charge of hireing people here. So tell me, what kind of work are you looking for? Better yet, tell me your work experience."

"Well, I worked in a casino back home. I was a hostess/cashier for two years and then I was a count clerk for the count rooms for a year and ahalf."

"Well, you have a good start. Let's see here," said the man as he looked through some papers. "Would you like to do one of the jobs you are use to or something new?"

"Hm... since my last job was a count clerk I'll try something new."

"Ok let's see what I have for you... Ah yes how's bartender sound?" Asked Mr. Hanaichi.

"Sounds great," Tara replied happily.

"Great, I'll give you this and you can take that to the desk out front and give that to Kerin. She'll give you the papers you'll need and where to go next."

"Thank you," Tara said as she shook Mr. Hanaichi's hand.

"No, thank you and good luck."

Tara left the office and gave the paper to the lady at the desk. Then she was directed to another place. There she picked up her uniform and given her work times. She saw that she started the very next day. So she would have to live in the slums until she got paid or at least until she saved up enough tips to put down for an apartment. She returned to the room she had woken up in and sat down on the floor. Tara couldn't believe her luck. She had landed a job without a backround check. Well, she sorta knew that the casino hired illigal immagrints and such. But for now she wasn't really worried about that. Her first night went by quickly even though she didn't get much sleep. Tara wouldn't be working until later that night so all she needed to worry about now was finding something to eat. She left the room and looked around for anything she could eat, but with no luck... Night time fell and Tara was ready for work. She made it on time and showed up at the bar. It was a small bar in a private room. Not many people were in this room.

"Oh hi you must be the new girl," called a voice from the bar.

"Yeah, I'm Tara."

"I'm Jane, it's nice to meet you. I'll be showing you what to do. C'mon over here."

As Tara went behind the bar she passed by a mirror, but she didn't notice a difference. Once behind the bar she was shown what to do.

"Oh honey, you can't wear your hair like that in here. Come on, I'll help you."

Jane took Tara to the back and took out a brush. She then took Tara's hair out of its holder and brushed it. In the mirror Tara finally saw the difference. She had long hair at least to her waist. And her face was slimer and a little paler. Once Jane was finished she took Tara back out front and they continued to do their work. When the night was over Tara had made $600 dollars in tips. So this job was a big hit and it was easy. The next day, Tara went out and found an apartment, she had to put down $500 dollars but it was a better place to sleep than the slums. The next night was a busy one, Tara caught on to the work easily. That night Tara made well over $3000 dollars in tips. The next day, she went and bought things she needed for her new apartment. It was surprisingly big for only $350 a month.

With in the next month Tara had made a lot of money. Her apartment was now full of nice things. And living on a high floor was nice too. Tara went to work and found to room to be empty.

"Hey Jane, why is it so empty in here?" Tara asked.

"Oh I forgot to tell you. Once a month the owner of this casino holds a meeting in this place. You aren't to repeat anything they say or do. Or they'll kill you, I've seen it happen before. The owner is very mean so don't do anything that will make him mad," Jane said as the door opened and people filed inside.

Tara watched as the group of men sat at a table. There were four men in white suits and three in black ones. Then there was an old man around 56 or 57 and a boy around 19 or 20. Then one of the men in black suits came over to the bar.

"Hello Jane, you know what to make," he said eyeing Tara. "Hello, you must be the new girl."

"Yes sir, I am," Tara replied.

"My name is Ian, you are?"

"Tara."

"Jane, the Vampire wants you to teach Tara all of our drinks and for her to bring them out."

"Yes sir."

Ian left and Jane told Tara how to make everyone's drink. She told her who had what drink and seemed very frightened about it all. Once the drinks were done Tara was sent out to serve them. As she passed out the drinks the boy kept his eye on her. Tara walked away and brought back the tray. Jane was shaking and quickly placed small snacks on the tray and told Tara to give them out. As she headed toward the table she heard them talking.

"The thing of the matter is, Vampire, is that your company is too much for you to handle at this time,"said a man in white.

"So you think?" Asked the boy with an evil glint in his eye. "Do you think I'm a child? You know, just because my daddy died dosen't give you a right to treat me like one."

Tara arrived at the table and passed out the items. The boy, who she had identified as the Vampire, was the last to be served. As she pulled away, after setting down his plate, he grabbed it and held it close to his face.

"Did you put this together?" He asked.

"No sir, Jane did," Tara replied, looking strait into his lavender eyes.

"Thank you, you may go now."

Tara left the table and returned to the bar. Jane had gone back into the office and was sitting in the chair calming herself. Tara stayed out and tended to the needs of the party. Towards the end of her shift the meeting escalated into an all out fight and the Vampire had shot all four men in white. Everyone looked on in shock as it happened then they looked over at Tara, who was cleaning a few glasses and didn't seem to notice the shootings at all. Once it was all over they left and Jane said good-bye to them.

"Do you think it was right to shoot all of them?" Asked the old man.

"Yes, other wise they would just cause more problems, and I don't like it when they do," said the Vampire.

As they walked back to the office, the Vampire thought about the meeting. He noticed Tara go on about her work and not pay any attention to the shootings. This bothered him some; usually someone who saw that would quit the next day. He now sat in his desk with his head in his hand, thinking. There was something different about this one...

Tara returned home and turned on the t.v. and started some dinner. Tonight had been an interesting night and she was happy it wasn't that busy. She stood by the living room window and looked out at the street. It was a quiet night and it seemed to be very still. Tomorrow she was off so she could go out and maybe do a little site seeing. She went into the kitchen and finished cooking dinner. On the t.v. the news reported a car crash and two murders. But Tara had become use to this by now. Her two days off went by quickly and she was back at work. The Room was nearly empty and both Tara and Jane had nothing to do. Then all of a sudden, Jane ran into the office.

"I'll have a Milky Way please," asked a man as he walked upto the bar.

"Yes sir, just one moment," Tara replied.

The man watched as Tara made his drink and handed it to him. Once she looked at him she reconized him right away.

"You must be new," said the Vampire.

"Yes sir, I am. I started here about a month and a half ago."

"Do you like it?"

"Yes sir."

"That's good to hear. I didn't get your name the last time I was in here."

"Oh, my name is Tara."

"Well, it's nice to meet you Tara. I hope to see you around."

And with that he left and Jane reappeared.

"Why do you disappear every time he shows up?" Tara asked.

"Because he doesn't like me very much. I made his drink wrong one time and he broke my arm. But he seems to like you. It's weird though..." Jane replied.

"Why?"

"Because the Vampire doesn't like anyone. There's always something that makes him mad. When ever someone new starts here he would break something or hurt them in some way to make sure that they don't repeat anything that happens in the place during a meeting."

"Oh, I see."

The night went on and it got a little busier but then it died down. Tara then went home and had completely forgot about what Jane had said.

In his office, the Vampire was sitting at his desk and thinking. He just couldn't get the new girl to leave him alone, and it was starting to annoy him.

"Why the fuck is everyone looking at me?" Asked the Vampire.

"You seem to be preoccupied with something, young master," replied the old man. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

The Vampire thought for a moment.

"Yeah, find the address of this girl and come and tell me the second you get it."

"Right away young master."

The old man went off to find the address and the Vampire sat back and tried to think of something else. But it was no use, it was hopeless. He tapped his fingers on the desk, spun around in his chair, anything to pass the time. Finally the old man returned.

"Here it is..."

"What took you Mauro?!"

The Vampire snatched the paper out of his hand and read it over and over. He then called to the others in the room and told them that they were going for a ride.

Tara was getting ready to make something to eat when a knock came at her door.

"Who could that be?" She asked herself as she went to answer the door. "Can I help... oh hello."

"Hello, Tara was it?"

"Yes, that's right. And you're..."

"Please, call me Claire."

"Ok, do you want to come in?"

"Yes, that would be nice."

Tara stepped aside and let Claire inside. She had not expected him to show up at her door. But then she remembered what Jane had told her.

"Would you like something to drink?" Tara asked as she closed the door.

"Yes, if you have any soda that would be great."

Tara went into the kitchen and got two cans of soda. She then brought one out to Claire. He took it and opened it and looked at her with wide eyes.

"So... what brings you to this part of town?" Tara asked trying to make small conversation.

"I was in the neighborhood and I thought I would stop by and say hi."

"Oh, well that a nice thing to do."

"Yes, I've reccently come to find that out. You said that you've been working at the bar for a month and a half?" Claire asked sitting down on the couch.

"Yes sir, I have."

"How is everyone treating you there? Good I hope."

"Yes sir, very well."

"Please, there is no need to be so formal. I mean, you are in your own home after all. So, tell me, how long have you been in Judoh?"

"I believe about the same amount of time I've been working at the casino. Do you own it?"

"Yes, I own a lot of things in this city."

For once, Claire was calm and that was strange even for him. The men he had came with were waiting in the car; they were wondering what he was doing in there. They thought he was going to kill her. Upstairs Claire was saying good-bye to Tara and told her that he hoped to see her again sometime. He left and got into the car.

"So how did it go?" Asked the man with long hair.

"Just fine," Claire said calmly as he looked out the window at the quickly retreating building.
