Chapter three

(One month later)

I knew the dawn had approached. I knew I should have been sleeping but for some reason, I was restless. I had tried lying there for thirty minutes, reading a book, watching t.v. and drinking something warm but nothing helped. After I drank the warm blood that I heated in the microwave I heard Joseph crying.

Integra had returned a few days later after my explosion on my husband. She wasn't too happy about it nor about loosing so many men.

I sighed as I made my way to the crying child. I peeked in the room and saw no one, so I walked in and looked down into the bed. The child had stopped his crying when he heard me. I smiled down at him and reached down, picked him up and held him close. Tears began to fall from my eyes as I walked with him.

"He seems to like you."

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't hear you come in and he was cr…."

"I've been watching you for about five minutes. You got him to be quiet faster then I ever could."

"I always wanted a child of my own but…..unfortunately fate was against me."

"I can't excuse what you did to Adam, but I can understand why you did it. Because of that outburst though, you are confined to this house till further notice."

Integra watched as I sat in a rocker and began to rock Joseph with ease. I looked up and I saw her eyes. She looked so tired, so stressed. I saw the desk that she sat at. Papers were piled almost to the ceiling.

"Integra, is there anything I can help with or that you could teach me so you can have more time with the baby and get more sleep?"

Integra looked at her watch at the mention of sleep. "Shouldn't you be asleep? It is well past nine a.m."

"I couldn't sleep and have tried many things but with no success then I heard little Joseph here."

She smiled. "If you really wish to help, go get some rest and meet me back here at nine p.m. Walter can handle things with me and Joseph this morning."

I got up and handed the child to Integra and thanked her. I kissed the child on the head and turned to leave. As I opened the door, Walter stood right in front of me. He gave me a questioning look, probably because I was up, then he smiled and said good morning. I smiled back and left.

I drifted down to my room and to my bed half-expecting Alucard to be up and especially in my bed. I gave him a strange look when we both heard the scream from Seres's room. I ran as fast as I could. When I reached her room, the door slammed open on its own.

I saw Alucard standing over Seres. I knew he was asking her what was wrong snice she was shaking but it wasn't her who drew my attention. Off in the corner of her room, by the dresser, stood a child. The child saw me and began walking towards me. I was frozen in my spot and my eyes were frozen on her. I had wondered if any of the others had seen her. My mind told me not to fear her but for some reason, I did.

Right as her hand touched mine, the room changed. I closed my eyes for a moment as bright room flooded in and then almost total darkness took over. When I opened my eyes, I saw a basket in front of me holding a child. Looking up, I saw Seres huddled in the corner rocking back and forth with her face buried. I could barely make out the words I heard being whispered by her. Make it stop, make it stop.

I walked to the basket and looked down. I covered my mouth in an instant and turned. What I saw made my stomach turn in so many directions. The child's head was severed from its body and gone, a knife stood in the chest where the heart was. The insides were scattered throughout the basket.

As I was looking away in disgust, I felt something run under my feet. I looked down and saw blood spreading on the floor. I looked back at the basket and saw that it was the source of the flowing blood. I looked around to see if Seres was still huddled in the corner but she wasn't. I called for her but no answer.

"Don't be afaird."

I looked down at the little girl. As I began to reach for her, she began to change. The skin on her began to peel away as her eyes fell out of their socket's. Soon, a rotting corpse stood in front of me. I backed away and fell into the sea of blood that kept growing.

The girl looked at me and spoke. "Will you follow me into the darkness with the life you have chosen?"

She began to laugh as a light began to circle her. "Danger is on the way."

I shielded my eyes as she exploded. Bits and pieces of her landed on me. Blood had totally soaked me as I began to scream

I took in a big gulp of air and opened my eyes. I was no longer in that frightening place. When I looked around I saw Walter and Integra above me. I felt someone holding me down also.

"Are you alright Miss Angel?"

Suddenly in a panic. "Where is Joseph?!" Without waiting for the answer, I knocked whomever it was holding me down, leapt up and ran to find him. I finally found him. He was quiet and lying in his cradle. All my fear began to wash away as I saw him stir. Tears began to fall from my eyes as I fell to my knees next to him.

I heard the others enter the room but I did not turn to see them. They saw me on the floor and they heard my crying and soon they saw me pass out.

The girl appeared before me again, smiling.

"I chose this life. No one forced me to. No one forced me on this path. I willingly took it. What has shattered me will only make me wiser and stronger. I accept my destiny."

The girl continued to smile but now her body began to change. It was no longer the corpse from before, but now it had become the repaired form.

Why had I not noticed before. She looked so much like me when I was little. Then I gasped.

"Thank you." She whispered as she came up to me and threw her arms around my legs. "I love you, mother."

My arms went around her and I could feel her form disappear. A warmth of peace filled me that I had not felt in over a year.

"I promise we will see each other again." Her voice trailed off as she left.
