CHAPTER FIVE: SHACK FROM HELL

Seras sent a mean look toward the sound of her Master's laughter. She hadn't even been with him for more than one night and her Master had already found something about her that amused him. Her face became serious as she forced herself to step into the abandoned shack. A board suddenly creaked, making her remember a scary movie she had once watched. She shifted her bags more onto her shoulder, getting ready to run if a monster jumped out at her. And after a few minutes of just standing there, she breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that they were alone in the shack after all.

Seras cleared her mind of all the silly ideas of monsters and followed her Master's retreating back further into the small shack. She clenched her teeth at the idea of sleeping with the filth that covered the floors and almost walked right past the doorway that Alucard had entered. He went down a flight of steps into the darkness below, not even looking back to see if she was following. Seras quickened her step, almost flying down the set of stairs at the thought of being alone in the shack that was now above them. When her Master lit a match, she was thankful for the poor lighting, hoping that it would help hide how nervous she felt herself getting.

Alucard's face was covered with a large grin at how Seras seemed to be reacting to the run down shack. She didn't know about the basement like he did, and when he lit the match it came into view exactly the way he had left it all those years ago. His eyes scanned the small room, checking for any sign that someone had been there. When he saw none, he walked further into the room and toward the only things that occupied the space, a small bed and a crate next to it. He squatted down, reaching underneath the bed and pulling out a box of candles and a small candle holder. He sat there, merely letting the match go out as he put a candle in the holder. But he waited a few moments before he relit another match, waiting to see what Seras would do in the complete dark. His eyes narrowed as he watched her just stand there in the dark doing nothing, and he felt disappointed when she didn't let out a scream or do anything. He turned back to the candle and lit another match, putting it to the candle wick and then killing the flame of the match with a flick of his wrist.

Seras couldn't see much as she followed her Master into the room, but she followed him anyway. She noticed that they seemed to be in a small room that had no windows. For that she was thankful, deciding that it must be where they were going to sleep. She saw her Master hunch over a small bed, and bring out a box and a candle holder. When she saw the match burn itself out, she just stood there. She was scared but knew that she was with her Master and he would protect her from any dangers. She didn't know what had taken him so long to light the next match, but when he did she welcomed the flickering light it gave off as he lit the candle. It then hit her that if they had to use a candle, then most likely the shack didn't have any electricity, making the everyday things she needed useless to her now. She cleared her throat and decided to ask her Master, just to make sure if she was indeed right

“Um, Master, is there no electricity in this house?” Alucard stood up from the floor and flashed a smile at Seras' question, as he answered

“No need to worry Police Girl. There is electricity in the upper half of the house, along with running water as well. I made sure of that before I left.”

Seras breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that she had been wrong after all. She let her bags drop to the floor, dust flying up from where she had dropped them and making her sneeze. As her Master set the candle, now brightly lit, onto the crate next to the bed, Seras took a look around and noticed that there wasn't much to look at in the first place. She glanced at the bed, noticing that there was only one, and it had a large black bag tossed over the end of it. She did a small full circle, checking for anything threatening but found none. Her movements caused her foot to nudge one of her bags, making her look down.

Seras' eyes widened as she remembered that she had forgotten to fill the bag with ice before she had left. She lifted her head, staring at the ceiling in hopes that when she found the kitchen there would be a working fridge. She threw a glance at her Master as she lifted the bag off of the floor, but he seemed to be deep in thought. So she said nothing as she turned, climbing back up the stairs and through the doorway. Her heart shrank at the thought of all that blood going to waste, thinking that Walter would be furious at her forgetfulness.

She walked to the opposite end of the house, knowing that the kitchen was most likely in the back. It wasn't a large house and, in fact, looked the same on the inside as it had on the outside. Finally she stepped from the creaky wooden floors to a tile one, feeling along the walls looking for a light switch and flipping it on when her hand came into contact with it. The bulb flickered on, revealing a very bare kitchen. The only things in it were a table a few chairs, a sink, and then her eyes scanned over a large white fridge. She immediately walked over to it, slowly opening the door with the hope that cold air would meet her face. She had to suppress a squeal of delight when it did.

Back down in the basement, Alucard sat on the dirty old mattress deep in thought. There were no signs of any intruders, which was good. Most of the people that lived in the town below had steered clear of the abandoned house, especially since there were rumors of it being haunted. The last thought made Alucard smile, thinking that maybe those stupid humans were smarter than he thought. But he quickly changed his mind to thoughts of his Police Girl. His eyes lit with fire hidden behind his sunglasses, his lips thinning into a large grin. Her scent was faint after she had gone upstairs, but either way he could still smell it. He could feel his teeth lengthen and sharpen as he grew more and more excited in his thoughts of his dark child. He played around with the idea of how funny it was that she didn't even know that the most dangerous predator to her was right below her.

This made Alucard laugh. He loved the control he always seemed to have over his Police Girl and wondered if he perhaps should wait on making her a true vampire until after he had mated with her. He did after all like how she called him Master. With his mind made up, Alucard decided to let his future mate hold on to her last threads of mortality for a little while longer. If she was still bound to him, than he wouldn't have to make her choose between her mortality and mating with him. He gave off another laugh, thinking that she would be more willing to mate with him by her own will if he had something to bargain with. And her last shreds of humanity seemed to be very precious to the foolish girl. He knew that he would mate with her one way or the other, and also knew that once they had mated he could probably force her to shed her last few ties with the filthy humans. He just had to hold out a night or two before he made his move on her, wanting to see just how deep her feelings of desire ran for him. He sat on the bed, giddy with excitement at how he was going to have so much fun. He almost thanked Integra for sending him away on this order of training but quickly stopped, almost going into a fit of laughter at how she had thought of it as a way to punish him.

Alucard raised his gaze to the ceiling above, wondering what Seras was doing at the moment. The groaning boards had stopped making noises, and it seemed awfully quiet up above. He knew that she had to be doing something. He hadn't heard the front door open and, getting up from the dusty mattress and grabbing it with one hand, he flipped it over, his eyes still glued to the ceiling. He finally let out a sigh, brushing the dust from his coat and heading toward the kitchen where he had last heard some sounds.
