CHAPTER SEVEN: SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

 

Seras walked down the stairs leading to the basement, breathing a sigh of relief when she saw the flickering of the candle still burning. When she reached the bottom, however, she wasn't very happy at what she saw.

 

Her Master lay on the bed, all stretched out and with his eyes closed. He had taken off his tie, vest, and overcoat, but left his boots on for some reason. Seras tilted her head to the side in thought, wondering where she was supposed to sleep and why above all had he decided to sleep in his boots of all things.

 

Seras quickly shrugged her shoulder, covering her mouth as a big yawn came out; she would just have to sleep on the floor. She marched her big fuzzy green slippers up to the side of the bed. Seeing that Alucard's boots were resting on a pile of unused blankets, she decided that the floor would be a lot less dirty if she could sleep on a blanket. Besides it was kind of cold under ground in the basement.

 

She bit her lower lip as she carefully picked up Alucard's boot that was on top of the blankets, snatching one as soon as it cleared. She nearly fainted when she heard him laugh at her. She had thought that he was asleep!

 

Alucard had heard Seras come down the stairs but acted like he was asleep to see what she would do. And when he heard her come near and lift his boot that he had deliberately placed on top of the unused blankets just before he had lied down, he couldn't help but laugh, making her jump the highest he had ever seen her jump. He opened his eyes, seeing that she had backed away from the bed and was now standing a few feet away, the blanket clutched in her hands. He gave her a smile as he asked

 

"What are you doing now Police Girl?" Seras tried to make herself look unaffected by his little scare but failed miserably as she started to stutter, saying

 

"I-I wa-was getting a blanket Master." Alucard gave another laugh at how she had actually stuttered, so he decided to have a little more fun before the sun rose.

 

"And what are you going to do with a blanket, Police Girl?" He gave her his best innocent look he had, waiting for her answer and suppressing his laughter.

 

"I... well, I thought that the floor might be less dirty if I slept on a blanket is all, Master." She cleared her throat, making it obvious that she was nervous and wondering why he couldn't ask her after she had gotten some sleep.

 

"And why would you do that Police Girl?" Seras raised her eyes to his, immediately returning them to the floor. She was mad at how her Master always liked to make her look like a fool, so she thought she would answer his question with one of her own asking

 

 

"Do what Master?" She stood proud, her back straight, though her eyes still wouldn't meet his as they stared off at a dark corner. Alucard started to laugh as he said

 

"Sleep on the floor, Police Girl. Why would you sleep on the floor?" He waited, laughing again as he got the reaction he wanted. Seras jerked her head up, her face filled with confusion as she answered

 

"Because you're already on the bed Master." She then rolled her eyes like she thought him mad. Didn't he know that was where he was laying?

 

"You can sleep up here with me, unless you are scared Seras." Seras' eyes almost popped out of her head as she took a cautious step back, the hands that held the blanket now shaking. She didn't know what she had done so wrong for her Master to call her by her name. He had never done that before.

 

Alucard was very pleased at the reaction he had gotten by calling Police Girl by her actual name. It seemed that she wanted to panic and run, but all she could do was stare at him with her mouth hanging wide open. He gave another laugh, saying

 

"It's not polite to stare." Seras snapped out of the trance she seemed to have gone into, mainly out of fear, and lowered her eyes back down to the floor while mumbling a soft sorry.

 

Alucard was having so much fun teasing her but he could feel the sun rising and knew that his fun must come to an end for the day. So he opened his arms, saying

 

"Police Girl, it is almost sunrise. Now come lie down like a good little girl and stop whining like a spoiled child." This made Seras shrink back, but she could also feel the sun rising as she tried to meet Alucard's eyes again. But as soon as she met them and noticed his arms, she looked back down at her feet again, cursing her self for blushing and hoping beyond all hope that it was dark enough that Alucard didn't see. She jerked when he said

 

"Are you going to sleep standing up or are you going to do as I say?" Alucard put a little extra feeling into what he had said, hoping that it would make Seras at least give him a dirty look.

 

Seras started to fidget, feeling the sun start to spill over the mountains above. She didn't know what to do but finally decided that Alucard couldn't have any bad intentions with her sleeping next to him. He was after all obsessed with Sir Integra. She took a cautious step toward the bed followed by another, only stopping when Alucard gave a sigh, saying in an annoyed voice

 

"At this rate Police Girl, you will be up all night walking over here. So do I have to come and get you, holding your hand like a little girl the whole three feet over here?"

 

 

Seras gave him an annoyed look, quickening her pace only to pause again when she came up next to his boots. She bit her lip as she asked in a small voice

 

"Master, are you really going to sleep with your shoes on?" Alucard gave another sigh as he sat up, taking his boots off and throwing them over in the dark corner. He laid back down, one arm on his side and the other underneath his head. He threw Seras another annoyed look, making her start to walk again. When she came to the middle of the bed she sat down, using as little space as she could. She then took each one of her slippers off, dusting some of the dirt off of them and then setting them down next to the bed on the floor.

 

Seras suddenly sat straight up, hearing a growl come from behind her followed by the ground out words of her Master saying

 

"Will you quit stalling already? I am tired!"

 

Seras swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat as she lifted her feet off of the floor, laying on the edge and trying to put as much room as she could between her and Alucard. She gave the wall at the other end a small smile at how she couldn't even tell he was there. But she nearly fell off the bed when Alucard made her jump again, reaching an arm around her head. But he quickly pulled it back, giving a sarcastic laugh and saying

 

"Why so jumpy Police Girl? I was only trying to put the candle out, but I guess that can be your job since you are the closest to the edge." He laughed again at his little joke.

 

Seras' eyes narrowed as she stretched up, blowing the candle out in one try. She would give her Master a piece or two of her mind as soon as they woke up the next night.

 

Alucard could hear Seras' thoughts, due to the force and anger she put into them. He smiled in the dark, his white teeth showing, as he took the hand from his side and quickly slid it around Seras' waist. He almost died laughing when she gave a little scream, quickly asking

 

"Is that you Master?"

 

"Yes, it is me Seras. I like to hold something when I sleep. Do you mind? It would help me sleep better."

 

Seras tensed once again as her Master used her given name, but she could feel the exhaustion from the night surrounding her and if it would help her Master sleep then she didn't really care anymore. She was way too tired to be nervous about being in a bed for the first time with a guy, even if it was her Master. She yawned, saying

 

"Sure Master, if it will help you sleep."

 

 

Alucard smiled, taking the invitation as he moved his other arm from underneath his head slid it underneath Seras' head like a pillow. He heard her mutter thanks, already half asleep. He tightened his hold on her waist, bringing her back firmly against his chest. He could tell that she was already passed out by the soft snores coming from where her mouth should be.

 

Alucard himself was exhausted and he finally decided that he should be going to sleep too. He laid his face against the back of Seras' head, taking a deep breath and filling his lungs with her scent. He smiled as he thought of the next night, wondering if Seras would wake up first or if he would. His eyes started close, his last thoughts being that either way, whether Seras woke up before him or not, he wouldn't let her out of his arms till he decided to wake up.
