Chapter 1
Yusuke walked down the road from his ex-girlfriend's, Keiko's, apartment with a heavy heart. `I don't understand why she cheated on me.' He thought. Keeping his head downcast he felt someone bump into him knocking him to the ground. “I'm sorry, please forgive me.” A female voice said. Yusuke looked up and saw the girl who bumped into him start picking up her discarded papers. “Just watch where you walk.” Yusuke said coldly. He stood up and began walking to the park. The girl looked after him before standing as well. “Wonder what's eating him.” She whispered to herself. “KAGOME!” She heard Koenma yell in her mind. “Yeah, yeah I'm coming. Keep your diaper on.” Kagome mumbled.
Yusuke sat down on the bench and let out an in human growl. He failed to notice the two pairs of eyes watching him. “Did you get anything from his mind Hiei?” Kurama asked. “No that detectives keeping whatever happened to him blocked.” Hiei said. Kurama nodded before he felt his communicator vibrate in his pocket. “Yes, what is it Koenma?” Kurama asked. “Yusuke won't pick up his communicator; do you know where he is? I have a mission for all of you.” Koenma said. Kurama looked up at Yusuke before looking back down at Koenma. “I have a suspicion of where he could be.” Kurama said. He heard Hiei `hn' above him and smirked. “Good get him and Kuwabara than call Botan to create a portal for you all.” With that he hung up. “Well you heard him Hiei go get Kuwabara and meet back here.” Kurama said walking over to Yusuke. Hiei glared at him before going to find the buffoon.
“Alright Koenma we're here what do you want?” Yusuke asked annoyed. Koenma appeared to not have heard him and continued cowering in front of a girl that looked vaguely familiar to Yusuke. “Come now Koenma, I have no idea what you are talking about.” She said. “You just want me to change your life. Well it's not going to happen.” Koenma said, his voice getting stronger. The girl put both of her palms onto his desk and leaned towards him, making him jump and fall out of his chair. “I can change my life on my own. I don't need your help.” She growled at him. “If you say so, how's this, after you finish this mission I'll fire you so you can go and peruse your career.” Koenma said holding out his hand to her. The girl jumped and sat down on his desk, facing Yusuke and the gang, thinking over his deal. She turned around half way and grabbed his hand. “Koenma sir, you've got yourself a deal!” She said happily. Koenma smiled and finally noticed the audience they had.
Koenma cleared his throat and motioned for the gang to sit down. “Everyone this is Kagome, she's been a Spirit Detective for years and you're going to help her with her mission.” Koenma said. Kagome nodded her head in acknowledgement before humming `Ready, Steady, Go'. “I ran into her!” Yusuke exclaimed. “Yusuke please calm down.” Kurama said. “I don't know what you're so upset Urameshi it's just a hot girl.” Kuwabara said. “The detective is probably mad because she didn't comfort him when Keiko dumped him.” Hiei said. Everyone in the room, minus Kagome and Hiei, stared at Yusuke. “Keiko dumped you?!” They exclaimed. Yusuke gave a small nod. “You know you shouldn't dwell on the past.” Kagome said. `You should talk, maybe I should remind her that she spent eight years looking for the jewel shards.' Koenma thought. Yusuke glared at her before marching up to her. Kagome looked at Yusuke innocently before flipping her hair over her shoulder and tucking the remaining pieces behind her ear. “Yes, what is it that you need?” Kagome asked. Before Yusuke could open his mouth to yell at her a spirit popped up in front of Kagome.
Kagome stared at it before a tiny ghost of a smile appeared on her face and tears began to well up in her eyes. “Hey Hughes.” She whispered. “Who the hell are you?” Kuwabara asked. Yusuke would have yelled but having a ghost go through your body was not one of the most pleasant feelings in the world. “Are you by any chance from the military?” Kurama asked. Hiei stared at him with his eyes opened a fraction larger than they normally were. `I recognize him from the park, with his daughter.' Hiei thought remembering how the man had seen him and began scaring him a bit with all of the pictures of his daughter. “Yeah I am, you should be in the Investigations Department. Hey Kagome, so Koenma did you find out where I should be at yet?” Hughes asked leaning through Kagome. “Not yet, I'm pretty sure you get to go to heaven but I need to ask my father. Kagome, Yusuke what's wrong with you two?” Koenma asked noticing how still and quiet they were.
Hughes looked at his body that was still through Kagome and remembered that he had walked through Yusuke. “Sorry, you two. It's kind of weird not having to worry about not hurting when you walk into things.” Hughes said stepping all the way through Kagome. Kagome jumped off of Koenma's desk and walked slowly over to where Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama were standing and gave an involuntary shiver. Kurama placed his hand on her forehead and noted how cold she was. “Kuwabara go check and see if Yusuke is cold.” He commanded. Kuwabara opened his mouth to argue but quickly closed it seeing Kurama's look. “Hiei let me borrow your cloak.” Kurama said holding out his hand for the material. Hiei glared at him before removing his cloak and handing it to Kurama. “Yusuke's fine, shocked but fine.” Kuwabara said. Kurama nodded before Hughes walked over. “Let me see her.” Hughes said. Kurama turned her to face him and let go of her shoulders. “Hey Kagome, you okay?” Hughes asked looking into her empty hazel eyes.
Kagome blinked and continued to stare at him, this time her eyes showed him emotion. “You're dead?” Kagome asked. “Yeah I am.” Hughes answered. Kagome shook her head before creating a portal under her feet, to take her to Central HQ. “Well I don't think that was how you wanted it to go.” Koenma said. “It wasn't, she wasn't supposed to run like that.” Hughes said running a hand through his hair. “Let me guess you want us to follow her.” Yusuke said coming out of his shocked state. “Precisely, but you must keep reporting back to me.” Koenma said. They nodded as Koenma called Botan in to make a portal for them. “Where to sir?” Botan asked. “Central Headquarters, if I know Kagome like I know I do, she is going to head to my house to see if I ever left.” Hughes said. Botan nodded and created a portal for the Reikai Tentai. After they left Koenma turned on his TV screen and split it in half so they could watch Kagome and the Tentai.
Kagome sighed in relief as she landed in her empty office. Picking up her newly cleaned uniform she hurried up and changed before going out of the office. “Good evening General Higurashi.” Major Armstrong said. “Good evening Major. Tell me, is Lieutenant Colonel Hughes here?” Kagome asked. “No I'm afraid not. He left about an hour ago and fired Scieszka.” He said. Kagome groaned and ran past him. “Scieszka? Scieszka? Scieszka where are you?” Kagome yelled. Armstrong watched her run and shook his head. “Hey big guy.” A male voice said. Armstrong looked down and saw Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei standing there. “Who are you? What do you want?” Armstrong asked. “We're looking for Higurashi.” Hiei said moving slightly. Armstrong looked at him and noticed his sword. “NO ONE SHALL HARM THE GENERAL AS LONG AS I, ALEX LOUIS ARMSTRONG THE STRONG ARM ALCHEMSIT, WORK ALONG SIDE HER!” Armstrong said as his shirt ripped off and he began to flex his muscles with the little sparkles around him. He failed to notice that his audience walk past him and begin their search for Kagome. In Koenma's office Koenma was laughing hysterically, Hughes slapped his face with his hand, and Botan had a sweat drop on her head.
Scieszka stopped packing her things from her desk and walked out into the hallway. “Scieszka, have you seen Hughes?” Kagome asked panting. “Not since he fired me half an hour ago.” Scieszka said. “Do you know where he is?” Kagome asked. “Well he went to go and see the Fuhrer's secretary because she was taking him to go and see Doctor Marcoh in Hotel Perfect.” Scieszka said thoughtfully. (A.N. I know sucky hotel name, deal with it.) Kagome smiled happily and pulled her into a hug. “Thank you so much! You're hired again, get to work!” Kagome yelled as she ran down the hallway. Scieszka groaned quietly as four males ran past her and in the direction Kagome went. “That was strange.” She said. “Damn it Kagome hold on!” Yusuke yelled. Kagome stopped and turned to a phone both. She walked inside it and didn't bother closing the door. “Hello?” She asked. “Hey Kagome, can you pick me and Hawkeye up at the train station?” She heard Roy ask. “I don't know any Kagome.” She said with amusement in her voice. “General Higurashi, can you come and pick us up at the train station?” Roy asked agitated. “Sure, but not at this minute. I'll call you when I'm about to come and get you.” Kagome said hanging up. Turning to walk out of the phone both she came face to faces with four people she didn't want to see at the moment. “Look guys, I can't stay and talk right now I need to go and find someone.” Kagome said. “You know he's dead, why don't you just live with that?” Kuwabara asked. Kagome stopped walking and looked like she was going to turn around before taking off at full speed towards the city. “Nice going buffoon.” Hiei said disappearing in a black blur. They rest of the team just turned and glared at Kuwabara.
Kagome sprinted into the hotel and up to the front desk. “May I help you?” The receptionist asked. Kagome nodded her head trying to catch her breath. “I'm looking for Doctor Marcoh.” Kagome said. The receptionist nodded and gave Kagome a smile before looking at the list of people who checked in or out. “I'm sorry but there was never anyone in here named Doctor Marcoh.” She said her smile fading. Kagome's eye twitched before bowing and walking back outside. `I better call the train station.' Kagome thought. Walking to the phone both off to the side of the hotel she walked in and put in the money. “Hello?” Roy asked. “Hey, I'm about to come and get you guys. Were you standing right next to the phone?” Kagome asked. “Yeah, what of it?” Roy asked. “Don't take that tone with me Colonel. I'll see you in a few.” Kagome said hanging up. She walked out of the phone both and looked to the left and saw a body a few feet ahead of her. “What the hell?” She whispered. “I wouldn't go over there. You might not like it.” Hiei said. Kagome looked in one of the trees and saw Hiei lounging on one of the branches. “Thanks, but I can handle myself.” Kagome said. “Suit yourself.” Hiei said shrugging. Kagome glared at him before walking over to the body. Her eyes widened and she broke out in a cold sweat, she could feel the tears pouring down her face as she screamed into the night. “AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”
Yusuke, Kuwabara and Kurama heard her yell, as well as all of Central, and took off sprinting to the sound. When they found Kagome she was kneeling on the ground hyperventilating. “Kagome, what's wrong?” Kurama asked. Kagome shook her head and stared at Hughes' body before scooting back into a tree and bringing her knees up to her chest as she placed her arms on top of them and her forehead on top of her arms. “What is it?” Armstrong asked as he stopped sprinting. “How'd you get here so fast? Do you have in human powers or something like that?” Yusuke asked shocked. “That is not important right now. General Higurashi, why did you scream?” Armstrong asked kneeling next to her. Kagome slipped an arm out from under her forehead and pointed to the body. “Oh dear God.” Armstrong whispered.
