Yusuke snorted as he sat back down in his chair. "Nope, give me another beer or three and ask me again." He laughed at the look of horror Kagome gave him before she turned to her soda, taking a long drink of it. "You know I'm just teasing ya Kags. If I didn't have Keiko I'd be all over ya." Satisfied that Kagome hadn't taken offense to his words Yusuke involved himself with drinking his beer.

 

 

Kagome couldn't help but squirm. Surely he didn't mean that right? Keiko had broken up with him a couple of times over the years and not once had he given her any indication that he was interested in her, even before she had become involved with Hiei. She looked down at her soda, yeah. He had to be kidding, he wouldn't want her and even if he did he was involved and she was pregnant. She took another long drink, trying not to think on it. She didn't need to get depressed again that was for damned sure. She turned to look at Yusuke who was staring at her. "And just what makes you think I'd let you be all over me you big jerk?" Kagome sniffed, feigning indifference. "You presume too much." She reached for her soda again but Yusuke snatched it out of her hand.

 

 

"I don't think I like your tone Kags. You're sounding stuck up!" Yusuke grinned as she tried to swipe her soda back from him. "I don't think so, it's mine now!" Yusuke brought the can to his lips with a cocky look. It was all in play after all, something to get her mind off of things. He ignored her cries of protest as he tipped the can back and proceeded to drink what little was left it. He set the can down and belched, Dr. Pepper always did that to him.

 

 

"Gross Yusuke, you are such a pig." Kagome shook her head at him, he would never change but then again, she didn't want him to. Kagome got up and went to the fridge to replace her soda. She stopped at the counter as another wave of dizziness passed over her. She gripped the counter top tightly as she waited for it to pass cursing to herself. If it wasn't one thing it was another. First it was morning sickness, now getting dizzy. She had no desire to find out what was next in the list. Thankfully her first appointment with the Doctor was in two weeks. She could ask her all the questions she had been saving then. Once she felt stable enough to walk again she turned back to the table and made her way to her seat.

 

 

Kameko looked at her oddly. "Kagome are you okay? You're looking rather flushed." She hoped that the girl wasn't getting sick on top of everything else, it was the last thing she needed. The party was starting to wind down and soon people would start going home. They had the option of staying there the night, she was sure Kayane wouldn't mind if they did. She was in no condition to drive anyway and by the looks of it neither was Kagome.

 

 

"Yeah, I just got a little bit dizzy. I'm fine now." Truthfully Kagome was feeling rather warm. In fact it had gotten downright hot in the room and she was beginning to feel uncomfortable. She thought about going back outside where it was cooler but she also didn't feel like going out alone.

 

Eyeing Yusuke, still sitting at the table, she decided to throw caution to the wind. He had been kind enough to go after her before, maybe he would humor her now. "Yusuke?" She started, smiling inwardly when he raised his head and locked eyes with her. "Would you mind taking a walk outside with me? I need some fresh air and don't really feel like going out by myself." She waited for his response, hoping that he would go with her. The heat was beginning to get to her and she tugged at her blouse lightly.

 

 

Yusuke frowned slightly, she was really beginning to look rather overheated. "Sure thing." He stood up and waited for her to get to her feet. She seemed to stumble, slightly off balanced and he put a hand out to steady her. He should be the one falling over himself, not her he had been the one drinking. "Are you sure you're okay?"

 

 

Kagome put a hand to her head, she had to get out of there. "Yeah, let's just go. It's too damned hot in here." She allowed Yusuke to lead her back out into the backyard. There were a few other people in the area but not so many that they wouldn't have any privacy. They walked back over to the tree they had sat under before and Kagome leaned up against it. "Dammit, where is the breeze when you need one?"

 

 

Yusuke watched Kagome as she kept tugging at her shirt, accidentally giving him peek at her creamy white shoulder and the barest hint of cleavage. He leaned back against the tree and wondered why he hadn't noticed how truly beautiful she was before? He stepped forward and grabbed her hand, stopping her from fanning herself. If she kept that up he wouldn't be able to stop from trying to get a better view. She looked up at him in surprise when he touched her hands. He held her gaze as her brought them up and lightly kissed her fingers. He didn't know when it had happened but somewhere along the way she had worked her way deep into his heart. It pained him to see her hurting earlier and when she had become uncomfortable, the feeling resurfaced. He wanted to do whatever it would take for her to feel better; to be happy again. He couldn't stand the haunted shadows that crossed her bright blue eyes when she was in pain.

 

 

"Yusuke?" The move had surprised Kagome, she hadn't been expecting anything of the sort and her eyes softened. She could honestly say she loved him, but Hiei held her heart and always would even if he never wanted to see her again. But at the same time, it felt good to know that someone cared for her. She closed her eyes for a minute, things would work themselves out. They had to. She sighed softly and tried to open her eyes. Another wave of dizziness washed over her and she fell forward, the last thing she knew was Yusuke's arms wrapping around her keeping her safe.

 

 

"Kagome?" Yusuke had caught her before she had a chance to hit the ground. He didn't waste any time in picking her up gently and carrying her back inside. Kameko came running up to him as he walked through the door. He brushed aside her questions wanting nothing more than to get Kagome comfortable and find out what the hell was wrong with her. "Do you have someplace I can lay her down?" His voice was sharp yet laced with concern, instantly drawing the attention of the others in the room.

 

 

Kameko nodded, she'd find out what happened soon. "Follow me, there's a guest room she can rest it. She began walking down the hall quickly knowing that he was right behind her. She pushed the door open and allowed him to pass her, watching as he laid her carefully down on the bed with a gentleness that seemed out of place with him. "What happened?"

 

 

Yusuke frowned down at the sleeping girl, sweat was already dotting her brow. "Damned if I know, we were talking and she just fell over." She had complained about being hot but he wasn't taking any chances. He pulled the blanket up over her and shook his head. "Has she been eating?"

 

 

Kameko shrugged feeling helpless. "I think so, I've been on her ass about taking care of herself. I think it's probably stress and it just caught up with her. Though if she isn't better by tomorrow I think she needs to see a doctor. She can have the room for the night, Kanaye won't mind at all. You're welcome to stay too if you want, I think she might need you if this was caused by an emotional breakdown of some sort."

 

 

"Thanks, I'll take you up on that." Yusuke wasn't about to leave her alone after this. He'd stay the night, tomorrow he'd take her home and if he had to he'd drag her to the doctor himself. Afterwards, he'd go and find Hiei and ask him what the fuck his problem was. He wasn't going to sit by and watch her destroy herself over him. It just wasn't going to happen. He barely noticed when Kameko left, instead sitting in a nearby chair so he could watch over Kagome.

 

 

A short time later the sounds of crying roused him from his doze. He hadn't even realized that he had fallen asleep. Cursing himself to hell and back Yusuke reached towards her, not missing how she latched onto his shirt pulling him closer. He didn't hesitate as he crawled onto the bed with her pulling her into his arms. She clung to him desperately and he couldn't help but wonder what she had been dreaming to get her so upset. "Kagome?"

 

 

She looked up when she heard her name but could see only darkness. It didn't matter, now that 'he' was here. She clung to him brokenly, it had all felt like such a horrible dream to her. She had begged and pleaded with him not to leave her, but of course Hiei wouldn't listen. Why would he? He had told her that he never loved her and he never wanted to see her again. But then she had felt it, strong arms wrapping around her and pulling her out of her nightmare. He had come, the dream had been wrong. Hiei would never abandon her. "Please, don't ever leave me. Please! I love you!"

 

 

Yusuke stilled as he heard those words. Had she meant them? His sleep fogged mind finally kicked in and he held her closer. He had never thought he would hear those words from her but he wasn't going to question it. The alcohol along with the drug he unknowingly ingested took away his ability to think otherwise he would have known it was Hiei she was crying for. None of that mattered at that moment, his thoughts scattered to the winds. "Never, I'll never leave you. Promise."

 

 

Kagome shivered as she heard those words, she had felt the conviction in them and believed him with all her heart. She had missed Hiei terribly and now that 'he' was there with her once more she felt complete again. She looked up trying to see him in the darkness but her eyes refused to focus properly. It didn't matter, she could still feel him and that was what was important. Her hands opened, sliding along his chest and up to his shoulders. The drugs had affected her perception so badly that she never noticed the difference in his clothing and size. Her lips found his, caressing them gently. She went slowly as if she was afraid this was all a part of another dream.

 

 

Yusuke groaned as she touched him. His hands went to the sides of her face as she kissed him. He deepened the kiss, gently dipping his tongue into her mouth. They explored each other slowly at first, taking their time but as moments passed their need grew. When Kagome's hands slid back down his chest he knew that he wanted more. "Hold on." He pulled back from her and grasped his shirt, pulling it over his head. It was tossed to the floor, forgotten until morning came. He groaned as her hands sought him out once more, gently running down his chest. Her touch was indescribable, sending jolts of pleasure straight to his groin. "Kagome, I don't..."

He could feel himself losing control to his inner youkai as she urged him on. He fought to hold it back, he wouldn't give over control so easily but he knew that he wouldn't keep it contained forever.
