Chapter Nineteen.
Hiei stared at Kayane with a cruel smile. "I see you are recovered now. You know who I am do you not?" The human before him was pale and soaking wet, just having been brought out of the regeneration chamber. It had taken two weeks for the man to fully recover, far longer than they had really expected. Yusuke had done quite a number on Kayane it would seem. He'd have to remember to thank him for that later, it had given him time to come up with the perfect punishment for this piece of human filth.
"What do you want with me?" Kayane stared up at the short man, he had no idea where he was or what was about to happen to him. "Please, just let me go. I don't know why I'm here." He flinched as the small man's eyes seemed to glow with an inhuman fury when he said that.
"You are here because of what you did to my mate. Under any other circumstances I wouldn't waste my time with you, however what you did is unforgivable. I won't even grant you a quick death, that would be far more than you deserve." Hiei grabbed the man by his hair and pulled him across the room, ignoring his weak flailing. He shoved the man to his knees in front of a very large cage and looked down on him. "What you see before you is called a Vorseth and as you can see, it's not exactly the friendliest of demons."
Kayane looked at the rough skinned demon that paced the cage. Scales gleamed harshly in the dim light as its twin tails lashed back and forth. Occasionally it would try to force it's way through the metal bars, growling viciously as saliva ran from its lips. He tried to back away from it but found that he could not move, his gaze transfixed on it's black eyes. It struck out with a clawed hand, raking the razor sharp objects down his bare leg drawing blood. "No!" His voice was shrill as he watched the creature lick his blood daintily from its claws. He noticed with an odd sort of detachment that the Vorseth's tongue was barbed before it reached for him again, waiting to taste more of his blood.
Hiei smiled coldly at the creature's reaction, knowing exactly what it was the Vorseth wanted. "He likes you though I wouldn't consider that a good thing in this instance." The smell of urine filled the air as Kayane lost control of his bladder, causing Hiei to wrinkle his nose in disgust. The Vorseth however didn't seem to mind though, he threw his head up in the air and tested the scent. "Yes, I would say he definitely likes you. You see, he is at the peak of his reproductive cycle. Once we learned exactly what it was that you had done to Kagome, we searched for a creature such as him."
Horror coiled around Kayane like a serpent ready to strike. His body began to tremble violently as he watched the creatures massive erection begin to slip from it's sheath. Suddenly he knew exactly what it was the man was talking about when he said the Vorseth liked him. "Don't put me in there! Please! I'll do anything you want!"
Hiei latched onto Kayane's arm and pulled the shaking man to his feet. "You have nothing I could possibly want. You will pay for what you did to Kagome, but unlike her, you will know exactly who it is that is fucking you." He dragged the screaming man over to the first door to the cage and opened it, throwing the man inside and then locking the door. the Vorseth continued to pace just outside of the second door. "One more thing you should know. Since you don't exude the pheromones necessary, he will kill you once he's finished with your body."
Kayane screamed as he watched Hiei push a series of buttons on a control pad, opening the only barrier between him and the Vorseth. Claws raked his fresh as he was dragged into the main chamber, already he could feel it's hot tongue probing at his body. He tried to fight back but it was futile, there was no way he could overpower such a creature. He threw a desperate look over to Hiei who was looking on. "I'm sorry, please! I didn't know what would happen! Let me out of here!"
Hiei was unmoved by the man's protests. Normally he wouldn't even consider watching such a thing but this was different. he needed to see the man suffer for what he had done. His attention was diverted when he heard the door open and Mukuro walked in. Kagome was no doubt up in the room, where she should be. After the little "talk" she had with Mukuro he had made the decision she was not to leave the room without him there and for once she agreed with him. Neither female really liked the other though they were civil enough when they had to see each other. "Come to watch the show have you?"
Mukuro chuckled slightly, her attention on what was happening in the cage. "I was merely making sure that you had everything under control. It was difficult to subdue that beast to begin with. Now that he has the scent of the man, he will be twice as problematic." It would seem that she had chosen the creature well, it cared not if it's current partner was male or female. Nor did it care that Kayane was human, it only wanted one thing and that was to satisfy it's sexual desires. Already he was clawing Kayane into position though the human was fighting it with everything he had. Frustrated by the lack of cooperation the Vorseth had its jaws clamped around the back of his neck as it pulled his hips up.
"I can't picture you as having a problem with men Mukuro. Are you telling me that creature was more than even you could handle?" Hiei winced as the man's screams increased, the Vorseth had finally succeeded in positioning Kayane like he wanted. It's hips thrust forward harshly, impaling the man on its length. Hiei turned his back to what was happening in the cage now. Justice was being served, he had seen to that. He could smell Kayane's blood in the air, it was sickening.
"I think you are mistaken Hiei, I haven't found a man yet that can handle me. Perhaps you could but I doubt we will ever find out." Mukuro's lip curled in disgust at the sheer amount of blood that was running down the man's legs. The room was going to be hell to clean once this was over, thankfully it wasn't her job to do it. "How is your mate doing anyway, I haven't spoken to her in a few days."
Hiei gave her a flat look. As if she needed to ask such a thing, she was well aware of everything that went on within the fortress. She could probably give him a running account of just how many times he had rutted with Kagome since they had arrive. Mukuro was that thorough. "She's homesick and bored but you knew that already. Why ask?"
"Perhaps a trip to the Ningenkai would do her some good then. She has family there does she not?" As much as she disliked the idea of Hiei leaving again she knew that he would refuse to send Kagome off without him. He was taking his bond with her seriously, just as she knew that he would. If only he had been ready for a relationship when they had first met, such loyalty was hard to find. It was too late for her however and she accepted that. So long as they avoided Yusuke they would be fine.
"She does, though I'd prefer to wait a few months before returning. There is a good chance if we were to return now we would see Yusuke and I doubt just a few weeks is going to have made a difference to him." Hiei turned to look into the cage, the screams finally died down to next to nothing. No doubt Kayane's vocal cords were raw from use. Already the Vorseth's body was trembling with the strain of riding the human underneath him. The screams ended abruptly with the creature reached completion, tearing Kayane's head off at the same time.
"Well that takes care of one of them." Mukuro turned to walk out the door, a cleaning crew would come in once the Vorseth devoured it's meal. "What do you intend to do about the other one?" This Maiko wasn't going to get off, that was for certain. Just because this kill had been particularly gruesome did not mean that Hiei's thirst for revenge had been satisfied.
Hiei contemplated the question as he watched the creature tear off one of the corpses legs with a violent jerk of its head. "I haven't decided yet. Regardless, she will pay as well. Remember Kagome is not to learn of what happened in this room. I will be most displeased if she were to hear of this." The last thing he wanted was to have her feeling guilt over this human's death. He had gotten exactly what he deserved, never again would she have to worry about Kayane's treachery.
"I think you coddle her a bit too much Hiei. She's seen killing before, why would you worry about her reaction over this?" Mukuro was truly puzzled over this. Kagome was a miko of the old ways, one who accepted that death was a necessity. She also knew and understood demon customs, Hiei had made sure of that.
"She is human Mukuro, no matter what she has learned she will still feel guilt over it. She would not be the Guardian if she were any other way." Hiei walked out the door knowing Mukuro was right behind him. Whether he liked it or not his fun for the day was over and it was time for him to get back to work. He still had patrolling to do, Kagome would need to content herself with reading until he returned. Perhaps later he would take her out, if nothing else she did enjoy taking walks. "I will return tonight. Make sure that the idiots send dinner up to my room if you would. I wasn't happy to hear that they didn't think my "pet human" needed to be fed."
Mukuro nodded curtly, knowing the hard look on his face did not bode well for her staff. She was surprised that he hadn't gutted them upon hearing something like that. o doubt she would have to talk with them if they wanted to continue breathing. "Consider it done."

Yusuke looked up when he heard the phone ring, he very rarely got any calls, especially during the day. he considered ignoring it but then thought better of it, no telling if it was Kagome letting him know they had returned from the Makai. Ever since she had left with Hiei he felt a constant ache that was eating away at him. He stared at the caller id and turned away. It was Keiko's number and he had no desire to talk to her at the moment. He heard the beep of the answering machine as it picked up and moments later Keiko's voice came on the line.
"Yusuke pick up, I know you're there. This is important, Kagome's mom called trying to reach her and she hasn't been able to."
Yusuke frowned when he heard this, he doubted that Keiko would make something like this up. Sighing heavily he walked back over to the phone and picked it up. If this was some sort of ploy to get him to speak to her again there was no telling what he would do. "Alright Keiko I'm here. What's going on."
Keiko wrapped the phone cord around her finger, she hadn't actually expected him to pick up and for a moment she couldn't speak. She wanted to tell him that she was sorry for what she had said and the way she had acted. For once she was wrong and didn't know how to fix it. She knew he would wait for her to say something forever though and she had a message to deliver. "Hey, I didn't know if you'd be home. Umm as you probably heard Kagome's mom called and said that it was urgent that she speak with her. She sounded extremely upset, all I could get out of her was something about her father."
Yusuke frowned at this, he was well aware that the old man was in poor health. The last time he had gone with Kagome and Hiei to visit he had looked like he had aged another ten years in the span of six months. "Thanks for the message Keiko, I'll find out what's going on."
"Yusuke wait! I'm.. I'm sorry for what I said before." Keiko didn't know if he would accept her apology or not. If she was in his shoes she doubted that she would be able to, but still she had to try. She just hoped that he could find it in himself to forgive her.
Yusuke sighed heavily and stared at the wall trying to think of how to word what he wanted to say. He was never any good at this shit and always ended up saying the wrong thing. He really wished she would have waited on this. "I know Keiko, I could see that night after we left the restraunt. I'll be honest with you, I never thought you could be that cruel to someone but I forgive you for what you said about me. But, what you said about Kagome I can't. You know her Keiko and you know she would never do anything like that to hurt you. Just.. Stay away from her, she's been hurt enough. I gotta go, I need to find out whats going on." He waited for her to say something but no sound came, it was as if she was just sitting there holding the phone. "Goodbye Keiko."
He hung up the phone and went digging through a stack of papers. He knew that he had the phone number somewhere. "Where the fuck is it?" Yusuke ran a hand through his hair in exasperation. This was ridiculous, how hard was it to find a damned phone number? Once more Keiko's voice came to him, this time in his head reminding him that he should put all of his important numbers in a planner. "Dammit I don't need this shit now." He pushed her voice away and searched through the stack again, once more coming up with nothing.
Sighing he snatched up the phone once more, there was one other person who was likely to know it. He just hoped Kurama didn't get too upset for bothering him at work yet again. He punched the numbers in and waited for Kurama to pick up. As soon as he heard his friends voice he got straight to the point. "Kurama I need your help. Keiko just called me with a message from Kagome's mother. She said she was pretty upset and it had something to do with her grandfather. I can't find the number you wouldn't happen to have it would you?"
Kurama blinked in surprise and dismissed his secretary. They were almost done with the letter he was dictating to her anyway. "I'm sure I do Yusuke, did she say anything else?" Already Kurama was looking through his list of phone numbers. He hoped it wasn't anything serious but he knew her family. They wouldn't call Keiko without a very good reason. "I found it Yusuke, let me give them a call and find out what's going on. I'll call you back in a few minutes."
Yusuke almost protested but changed his mind. Kurama was infinitely better at calming people down and getting answers from them. He on the other hand... Well, he tended to rile people up worse. Better to let Kurama do this part. "Okay, I'm at home now so I'll be waiting by the phone. Thanks Kurama."
He hung up the phone after Kurama said his goodbyes. He threw himself on the couch and waited for the phone call. If something was wrong they'd need to get in contact with Kagome immediately so she could go home. He wasn't sure how Hiei would feel about him showing up to deliver a message but he wasn't overly concerned about that. He should realize by now that if Kagome needed him he was going to be there one way or another.
