Chapter 35
Kurama watched as the teenage boy came up the stairs and approach them. A wind picked up his scent and brought it towards them. It was familiar but he knew he had never met this guy before. He thought for a moment before he could place it. This guys scent lingered occasionally around the shrine. It was obvious he visited fairly frequently so why had he never met him before? Kurama looked over to Kagome and saw the dread that marred her face before she plastered a fake smile on.
`So, she knows him.'
`It would seem so Youko.'
`Why haven't we met him before then?'
`It doesn't seem like she is thrilled to see him. Maybe her mother has been making excuses for her so she doesn't have to see him.'
`It's possible I suppose. I wonder what he wants.'
`Based on the look he is giving her, he wants Kagome.'
`He better rethink that if he wants to live.'
Kurama sighed and kept a tight grip on Youko. They didn't need him coming back out to slaughter this kid when they weren't even sure why he was there. He nodded imperceptibly when she glanced over at him. She didn't want this guy killed, whoever he was. They'd have to ask about him later and find out how she knew him.
“Hi Hojo, what brings you here today?”
Kurama filed that away for later use. The name Hojo seemed familiar to him but it wasn't through Kagome. It was quite likely through school then, this guy looked almost the same age as he was. Both him and Youko had decided they did not like the way Hojo was looking at Kagome.
“Oh Kagome I am so glad that I was able to catch you today. I've been stopping by but you've always been at Doctors appointments.”
Kagome reminded herself to thank her mom later on. She had been well aware of the attention Hojo had given her daughter and understood the difficulties that were going to come up if Hojo had ever shown up, especially if Kurama was there. While she may not have agreed with the level of possession the kitsune avatar had for her daughter she understood that it wasn't necessarily something they could control. So she did the best she could in keeping him away from Kagome. And since her sicknesses had come in so handy before with him, she continued to use them.
`Well Hojo, you know how it goes.”
“I do, it looks like your feeling much better though.”
“I'm having a good day so far Hojo.”
“That is excellent news Kagome.”
Kurama was more than tired of being ignored. The other guy had looked at him once and dismissed him as if he was not even there. That was totally unacceptable and would have to be rectified immediately He stepped closer to Kagome effectively drawing Hojo's attention to him.
Hojo knew exactly who the red head before him was. There wasn't anyone in the district who hadn't heard of Shuichi Minamino. He had been the talk of most of the student body when they had been in school. He had never worried about Kagome being drawn to him since they didn't attend the same school and she was out so frequently that she wasn't likely to hear the gossip about him. He had been most displeased to see him standing next to her.
“Excuse me, it's been a while since I have been able to speak to Kagome. Could you please excuse us for a few moments?”
Kagome looked nervously between the two men. Kurama's green eyes narrowed dangerously at Hojo's request and she could swear she could see gold flecks in them. Youko was more than likely becoming quite annoyed at the audacity that Hojo was showing. She started to say something but Hojo apparently decided he wasn't going to wait for Kurama's response since he hadn't moved. Hojo reached forward, taking Kagome's hand.
`Oh fuck no he did not just touch her!'
`Calm down Youko, I'll handle this.'
“Hojo I don't think-“
“Come on Kagome, this will only take a moment!”
Hojo began to drag her away when Kurama growled. Youko's influence was certainly manipulating how he reacted to the situation but a good portion of the rage he was feeling was his own. Kuronue looked over to Hiei who was poised as if he was ready to step in between the fight that was brewing down below them.
“Let them fight it out Hiei, this could be amusing.”
“Hn.”
Kagome snatched her hand away from Hojo when she heard Kurama. She didn't know whether or not he would be able to hold Youko in or not so she had to end this right now if at all possible. Hojo looked at her surprised and with a slight look of hurt when she pulled away from him.
“I'm sorry Hojo but if there is something we need to talk about then it can be said in front of Shuichi.”
Her use of his human name brought him back to himself for a moment. That name just didn't sound right coming from her. Damn this guy for interfering, he was in complete agreement with Youko. They needed to send Hojo on his way.
“Oh… Well in that case. I was wondering if you would accompany me to dinner tonight. My treat, there is a new seafood place not far from my home. I've heard they have a lobster bisque that is to die for.”
`He's about to die just for asking her out. Fuck the food.'
`Agreed.'
“I'm sorry Hojo, I can't go out with you.”
“Oh, I wasn't aware you had other plans. Perhaps another time then?”
“No, she will not be accompanying you tonight, nor any other night for that matter.”
Kurama's cold voice cut off any response that Kagome might have had for him. His expression warned her not to say one word about it. He simply could not tolerate another male attempting to court her. She was Youko's mate and always would be. He would join with her as well to finish the bonding between the three of them. Demons would know by smell alone once the relationship was consummated, but humans were another matter.
“Perhaps you should leave that decission up to her.”
“Hojo, Shuichi is right. I cannot accept a date with you. Please understand.”
“Kagome, I've waited years to be with you. I won't give up on you I promise. If it's because the two of you are in a relationship, I know it won't last. Just know that I will wait for you.”
Kuronue shook his head at the impudence of this youngster. He was surprised Youko hadn't already come out and gutted him by now. Although judging by the look on Kagome's face now, she just might beat him to it.
“Who's going to kill him first, Kagome or Kurama?”
“Hn. My money is on Kurama.”
They turned their attention back to the drama unfolding before them. Kagome had stepped forward, looking like she was going to slap Hojo's face clean off but she hesitated when she looked at Kurama again. Hojo followed the look and his eyes widened in disbelief. Slowly but surely Kurama was losing the contest of wills over who was going to dominate their body. His hair was already liberally streaked with silver and his eyes had turned completely golden.
“Kagome what the hell is wrong with him?”
“Hojo get out of here now!”
Kagome forcibly turned him around and gave him a good hard shove towards the stairs. However Hojo couldn't leave like she had ordered. After all, what kind of man would he be if he abandoned her to some potentially dangerous situation. Little did he know the only one in danger was him.
“Shuichi calm down please!”
Kurama didn't even register her voice as he battled internally with the kitsune. Youko was determined to make this insolent whelp pay for his comments with his blood. He might not be able to kill him, but he could certainly make him regret the words that he had spoken.
“Kagome come with me! I'll protect you from him!”
“Hojo just go, I'll be fine!”
It was at that moment that Kurama lost and Youko surged forth intent on bringing pain to this stupid human who dared to touch what was his. Hojo looked on in horror at the transformation that had happened right before his eyes. He could have sworn this was some nightmare gone horribly wrong. After all, a seemingly completely normal human did not grow to over seven feet tall. Nor did their hair color change from red to silver and they certainly did not have large fox ears appear out of the top of their head.
If Youko had any doubts about physically harming this human they were quickly banished when Hojo grabbed Kagome by the arm and proceeded to drag her away as fast as he could force her to run. Hojo was so determined to get her away from the creature that he completely ignored her when she yelled at him to let her go. He also ignored the cry of pain that escaped when he continued to hold her arm in a crushing grip.
That cry of pain is what prompted the three demons to leap into action. Hiei and Kuronue were by her side within moments, separating her from the human who had unintentionally hurt her. Hojo's eyes couldn't have possibly gotten any bigger when he took in the fact that Kuronue had wings. He also didn't fail to notice that the two new demons were armed and looked to be quite willing to use those weapons.
“Youko please! Don't kill him!”
Youko's hard glare softened when he looked over at her. As much as he wanted to, he wouldn't kill the human. She would never forgive him if he slaughtered one of her friends, especially if it was over her. But that did not mean that he couldn't hurt him. Quick as lightning he lashed out with a clawed hand, raking it down the left side of the boys face starting from his temple and angling it down until it ended at his chin. He would be permanently disfigured as a reminder to never come near his mate again.
Hojo grabbed his face and collapsed to the ground crying out in agony. Youko knelt down next to him grabbing him by the throat and hauling him back up to his feet. Hojo clawed frantically at the hand that was cutting off his air supply. Youko's voice cut through his panic with its coldness.
“You have touched my mate. You hurt her, which I should kill you for yet she wishes me to spare your life. Never come near her again or I will drag you into the Makai and watch as the lower level demons feast on your entrails while you are still living.”
Kagome had gone silent when Youko had struck him. She was angry he had done so, but she was not going to challenge him over it at this moment. He could have just as easily killed him and he would have been well within his rights as her mate to do so. She didn't dare go over there to interrupt them even though Hojo looked as if he would pass out at any moment. Kuronue silently looked over her arm making sure that it wasn't injured. If it was then no amount of pleading would save Hojo. If Youko didn't kill him, then he would be perfectly happy to do it for him.
“Hn. Fox you should not have revealed yourself. Now we must wipe his memories. The lesson will be lost.”
“I trust that you can leave enough of a warning in his mind Hiei. Otherwise I shall kill him now. He is not to come near her again.”
“Fine, lower him and let me get this over with.”
Youko dropped Hojo unceremoniously to the ground. He had already passed out, having lost control of his bladder in the process. Hiei was not happy about having to go anywhere near the wretched human but if Koenma found out that this guy knew about them then there would be hell to pay.
He removed his headband that concealed the Jagan and set about erasing the youth's memories. He firmly implanted into Hojo's mind that Kagome was no longer to be approached. Now as long as the boy had any amount of self preservation he would heed the danger signs that screamed at him every time he saw her. Once it was done he had the unenviable task of removing him from the property. With a look of disgust he drug the unconscious boy off of the shrine grounds.
Once Hiei was out of sight Youko turned to Kagome with a look of concern. He immedietly started to examine her arm, looking for any injuries. Already a large bruise in the shape of Hojo's hand had begun to form.
“I'm sorry love, he shouldn't have even gotten the chance to touch you.”
Author's Notes: For those who wanted Hojo to die, I haven't decided whether I am killing him off yet or not. There will be at least one more confrontation concerning him most likely. So, what do you think? Should we kill him off?
Reviewer Responses:
Whirleeq: We're likely to have quite a bit more interaction between those two I just have to figure out how to work it . As much as I dislike his attitude you are probably right. He is quite sexy in that dark, evil, mysterious way.
Ralina: Hehe Poor, silly Hojo. Bet he wasn't expecting that to happen. That might teach him not to mess with her anymore though I'm not betting on it.
Jasmine Fields: Not at all. And the poor kid won't remember what happened to him either.
Autumn Norris: It's quite alright. I didn't take offense, I just wanted to explain a bit better what I was trying to accomplish.
Gem: Yep, there is quite a bit more where that came from. Probably in the next chapter in fact once Kagome decides it's safe to yell at him for the Hojo encounter.
Shabopo: You know, it does me too. So I think that will be a definite addition to the plans lol
Rabid: You're quite welcome. I'm literally foaming in anticipation of seeing the updated version. Youko in dream form, that could get quite kinky *snickers* If only she had seen him face to face, talk about pleasurable dreams from then on. *Goes off into a daydreams* Ah yes, where was I again? Hmm the tornado, so far I've heard one person was killed in it. Reminds me of the time I was living beachside and a tornado came through a house two spots away from ours. Right down the center of it. Very odd to see. I hope I didn't disappoint when it came to this Hojo encounter. I'm leaning towards killing him in the next one, we will see. You being over descriptive? Tell your sister details are good. If you want no details then the best bet is the news paper funnies, instead of fanfics. I'll take major detail over none any day of the week. Then again, you see my style of writing. I've been told I go into too much as well. Eh well, it makes me happy. Write how you wish to write. If she doesn't like it, she doesn't need to read it. :-) Hmm Pretending about having a fox spirit in your head could be fun. Although if he actually starts talking back to you it is time to worry. Or start jumping up and down for joy. I'm not sure which.
Kura-kun's-lovr: I got to hear all about that particular fight when Kuronosuke came home. I wish I could have seen that you know. It sounded like quite a bit of fun. Perhaps next time I can watch :-D I wondered where he had gotten to, I woke up because the bed felt decidedly empty compared to the way it normally is. Did you know that Kuronosuke is a pillow thief? Seriously I have 6 pillows on the bed and somehow they all end up on the floor before it's said and done. His excuse is he doesn't want them in the way when he wakes me up in the morning. Then again, I can't blame him for that, he has some rather interesting (and extremely enjoyable) ways of pulling me from my sleep. After I tended the injuries he had gotten while over there he made sure to thank me. Many, many times. Then he popped the question, thanks for warning me it kept me from melting on the spot. And of course I said yes! I don't think I have ever seen him so nervous before. That was incredibly evil of the site *Beats it with a shoe* I'm sure the second draft will still be quite good, I look forward to reading it. And if the site messes up again we will have to send the guys out to take care of the problem. Kuronosuke has already volunteered his services for it. Most likely the next story I work on is You will be mine. There's just something satisfying about the torture and eventual demise of Hojo. I'm trying to think of a plot for another Kuronue/Kag story though it's quite likely that Youko will be included too. That package deal thing, that and you're right he does have wandering hands and has been asking me when he's going to get some action with Kagome. Poor guy is frustrated lol Have fun with Kuronue, I need to get going too. My guy looks like he's up for round 12 here. Insatiable and I love it! :-D
Thanks to everyone who reviewed! Until next time.
