Commitments Made In Blood

Chapter 40

 

 

 

“If you let me go now, no one will get hurt. The police will kill you if they have to you know.”

 

 

“Silence human, you seriously underestimate my abilities if you think any human can kill me.”

 

 

Naraku adjusted his hold on the girls neck and drug her further into the mall, seeking a way out of the building. If it came down to it, then there would be a confrontation but he was wary about tipping his hand so soon and alerting these insects to his abilities.

 

 

He watched with only the slightest bit of concern as the throng of humans thinned out and the building became for the most part deserted. Shortly after people started to come back in but they were dressed strangely. His best guess was that these were some sort of warriors, their clothing vaguely resembling some sort of armor. Each of them held some sort of contraption in their hands, had Kagura stuck around she would have been able to tell him that he was going up against the entire police force by the looks of it and they were heavily armed.

 

 

Naraku had never seen a gun before and as such dismissed them from his concern. A rather foolish thing for him to have done, but at the moment he had the girl and as such it afforded him a small level of protection.

“Well, we're all here so now what?”

 

 

Yusuke looked to Kurama momentarily to make sure that whatever disagreement that was between the two was put aside enough to concentrate on the task at hand. Kurama on the surface was calm, he would not allow himself to be distracted by his anger over what Yusuke had done. They could deal with each other at a later time. For now they had an opponent who had repeatedly tried to kill their mate and must be made to atone for his sins against her and everyone else who he had wronged.

 

 

“We can't go in unless Botan makes a portal, they have the building sealed off.”

 

 

“Even if we did that Yusuke the police inside would escort us back out as soon as they saw us.”

 

 

“So what are you saying Kurama? We just sit here while this dude has some lady trapped inside with him? We can't just leave her to him.”

 

 

Kurama looked to Kuwabara and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Charging headlong into the building would do absolutely nothing except maybe get people killed. Any battle that was going to take place would have to happen outside, preferably away from all of these people. They were at a disadvantage at the moment and he wasn't about to watch while any member of the team rushed off to get killed.

 

 

“I'm saying nothing of the sort. We need to draw Naraku out into the open. Only then can we consider engaging him.”

 

 

“So how do you suggest we do that?”

“I'm sure they will be fine Kagome. I've ended up going with them on a couple of missions. They can handle themselves, you shouldn't worry.”

 

 

Keiko was trying to convince herself of that just as much as she was trying to assure Kagome. She had no idea who Naraku was, but if the other girls reaction was any indication he wasn't a demon to play with. She could tell she was ready to bolt at any moment and hadn't left already only because she was effectively sandwiched between Kuronue and her mother on the couch.

 

 

“You just don't understand. You don't know Naraku like I do.”

 

 

“I don't, but they survived the Dark Tournament. If they can live through that then I am sure that they can handle this Naraku character.”

 

 

Kagome's mind wandered through her memories. The scenes played out like a horror movies. Flashes of blood, dismembered bodies, the screams of Naraku's victims echoing in her ears. She shook her head trying to dispel them but they just wouldn't leave. The sight of the slaughtered demon exterminators village stayed for a while. The entire clan of the Tajiya killed in moments. People who had trained starting from the time they could walk, felled by the minions of this bastard. And Keiko thought that they could take him on without a problem.

 

 

“It will be fine, you'll see. So how did you meet Kurama?”

 

 

Keiko was extremely curious about Kurama's new love interest. She had seen him date a few times but it had never turned into anything serious. In fact he spent so much time with Hiei that they had begun to think that there was some sort of relationship going on between the two of them. She had never gathered up the courage to ask though, it wasn't any of her business.

 

 

“I fell into his lap bleeding to death one night while Youko was out.”

 

 

That raised Keiko's eyebrows. She didn't know that much about Youko, she had only seen him a few times but he didn't strike her as the type to allow a human to fall into his lap, especially a bleeding one. Even if the human was female.

 

 

“I see. And Youko decided to help you?”

 

 

“Yes he did, though I met Hiei first. Without his help I never would have made it to Youko.”

 

 

Hiei helping a human? Without Koenma forcing him to do so? What was it about this girl that would make those two assist her of their own accord? Things were getting stranger and stranger. And what was worse was the girls mother was acting calmly as if such things happened to Kagome every day.

 

 

“So what happened if you don't mind me asking.”

 

 

“Naraku is what happened. He wants to dominate the world and has no problem destroying anyone in his path to get what he wants.”

 

 

Keiko noticed the glimmer of tears in the girls eyes when she said that. She mistakenly took it for simple worrying for Kurama's safety when in reality she was reliving the memory of seeing her fallen comrades. Taken down by Inuyasha when he had no control.

 

 

“They'll be fine, you'll see. Naraku won't get passed them.”

 

 

“That's what we thought before but now they are all dead. All except me and Shippou.”

 

 

“Whose all dead? Who is Shippou?”

 

 

Shippou and Souta chose that moment to come through the door. Shippou with his enhanced hearing had been listening to the conversation and immedietly went to her, crawling up into her lap. Kagome affectionately ran her fingers through the fur on his tail, thankful that he had come back to life.

 

 

“I'm Shippou, who are you?”

 

 

Keiko looked at the kit in surprise. He had dropped his illusion immedietly on seeing that Kuronue was not making any attempt to conceal what he was. She had not expected the young boy to develop a tail, pointed ears and have tiny, paw-like feet.

 

 

“I'm Keiko, a friend of Kurama's. What kind of demon are you?”

 

 

“You're a friend of Kurama's and you don't know what a kitsune looks like?”

 

 

Shippou looked at her rather dubiously. Kuronue couldn't help but laugh at the kit's forwardness. That had been the last thing they had expected him to say. Shippou was certainly outspoken but Keiko seemed to take it in stride. Shippou was inwardly pleased with himself, he had diverted Keiko's attention from the more painful question she had asked about the rest of the group.

 

 

“You look a lot different than Kurama does when Youko is out. He has fox ears and you don't. Why is that?”

 

 

“He's a different kind than I am of course. He's a spirit fox, they don't look like most kitsunes do.”

 

 

“So that explains it then. Well, it's nice to meet you Shippou!”

 

 

“Nice to meet you too. So why are you here?”

 

 

“Well I came here looking for my boyfriend Yusuke but he wasn't here. Now I'm just here visiting.”

 

 

Shippou shrugged it off, there were plenty of people who came visiting. It was a shrine after all, tourists came by frequently though most didn't stay long. He liked this girl and hoped she would stop by more often. Kagome didn't get out much anymore, perhaps this would be a new friend for her and she would cheer up some.

Hiei took it upon himself to draw Naraku's attention by letting his energy flare in a blatant challenge. Anything and anyone at all that had any sort of spiritual or demonic energy within a ten mile radius had to have felt that wave of power Kurama thought.

 

 

Hiei knew that Naraku likely held a grudge against him, now the question was would the hanyou be able to resist his call? He kept his energy elevated, showing that he was waiting and would not back down from this fight. The temperature in the immediate area raised a few degrees much to the dismay of his companions. Still, they had endured worse before and likely would in the future as well.

 

 

“If he didn't feel that, the cops have already killed him and we can go home.”

 

 

Inside the building Naraku's senses screamed an alarm to him, feeling the apparitions call to battle. He knew this signature energy well, he lusted after the kind of power that the fire demon had. Extending his senses past the elevated energy, he felt the strong pulse of energy from the Toushin. The one who had outright refused his offer of an alliance. He would take him by force as well, absorbing him into his body. But first he needed to get out of here.

 

 

“Allow me to walk out of here and I will release the girl unharmed.”

 

 

“We can't let you go. Release the girl, I'm sure the Judge will take that into consideration.”

 

 

Naraku snarled at the man in black who had spoken to him. If they would not let him walk out then he would force his way out. The girl was now useless to him, with or without her they were not intending on letting him go. With ease he snapped the girls neck and then dropped her. Shots rang out before she had even hit the ground, pain tearing through various parts of his body but he steadfastly ignored it intent on making his way outside.

 

 

“What the fuck is this shit?”

 

Naraku smirked as miasma poured out of the wounds they had dared to inflict on his body. Kagome and her little group had learned first hand how deadly his miasma could be, these humans did not have a chance once they had inhaled it. It would be a slow, painful death without the necessary herbs to treat it. One by one they dropped into unconsciousness as he walked out.

 

 

`Kagura where are you?'

 

 

The wind demoness in question was still watching from her tree. She had noted the arrival of the spirit detectives and the way the fire apparition had challenged her master. They had yet to notice her which was all to the good as far as she was concerned. She had no intentions of interfering if she could help it. The gunshots had startled everyone into silence and now they were all waiting to see what the outcome was. Based on the voice in her head, she already knew the answer.

 

 

`Outside waiting to see if you survived the encounter.'

 

 

`You should know better than to question my survival abilities Kagura.'

 

 

`Perhaps but you know the spirit detectives are here waiting for you. They don't intend on letting you leave alive.'

 

 

`We will see who kills who.'

 

 

Unknown to the spirit detectives or even Kagura he had a call to Kanna at the onset of this situation and it was likely she was already in place ready to assist her master if he should have use of her abilities.

While Keiko, Shippou and Kagome talked, her mother had turned on the television so they could keep track of what was going on at the mall. When they announced there had been shots fired all conversation ceased as they waited for more news. Kagome knew that a bullet wasn't likely to stop Naraku, no matter how much she wished otherwise.

 

 

She had felt the energy spike that Hiei had broadcast but as of yet she didn't feel anything resonating through the bond with Kurama so she knew that at the moment they weren't in any danger. However if she even felt the slightest tremor then they weren't going to be able to hold her there.

 

 

 

 

 

Author's Notes: Short chapter I know, sorry about that. I normally don't do this, but this was just too good for me to pass up. I have a nominee for the H.U.M.A.S. Award (For those who don't know what H.u.m.a.s. is it's Head Up my ass syndrome.) Our nominee left this nice little review for me, of course without her email address so I could be sure she got my response when I made it to an email compatible computer. Instead I'll have to hope that she reads this little author's note which includes my response.

Kagome does not have blue eyes, you simpering idiot. NO one in Inuyasha, in Kagome's time (LET ALONE HER, YOU DUMB FUCK) has blue eyes. His name is "Suichi," not SHUICHI. Do you have any fucking (literally) any fucking idea who Shuichi is? He's a lovable, homosexual scamp who definitely wouldn't be doing anything sexual with Kagome because he's attracted to Yuki Eiri, who also has golden eyes, like a certain hanyou we all know. And given the evidence, in case you're too dumb to figure this one out: INUYASHA.

Well.. you did have 39 chapters. But why couldn't you get your details straight, even the simplest ones?? (Like names and basic eye color) If you don't find Kagome's eye color attractive in the first place and wanted to change it, then she has no business the way you've written her and who you've put her with.

Now for my response to this extreme show of stupidity:

 

Black Lucy

I'm going to go through this nice and slow for you. Normally I'd include responses like this at the end of my chapters but somehow I get the feeling you never made it past the first few chapters of my story.

1.) In the summary it states : IYYYH crossover. Now for those that don't understand abbreviations that stands for Inuyasha Yu Yu Hakusho crossover. So where you got the idea that this was an Inuyasha Gravitation cross over I will never know. Yuki Eiri is clearly a Gravitation character so it is obvious that somewhere along the way you became confused and felt the need to lash out. Ever consider anger management classes? They'll help you play nice with others instead of feeling the need to curse and name call.

2.) Since you are so hung up on eye color let me please be the one to point out to you that Suichi (In Gravitation) has purple eyes. That should have been a clue to you that you were thinking of the wrong anime series. Shuichi Minamino has green eyes in YYH. Green, purple, eh I would think there is a large enough difference for you to notice but then who the hell am I to judge. I'm just an author.

3.) Here we go with eye color again. Perhaps you should pull yourself away from the tv series and go buy some of the mangas. Because clearly on the covers of them Kagome is drawn (In color mind you) with blue-grey eyes. So before you take me to task in error for something so damn trivial do your research. I could make her with blue eyes or brown. Either one is correct and since it is my fic, it's my prerogative to portray her however the hell I want to. If you want to complain about how she's portrayed, go find the author's that give her wings and such. Leave me the hell alone.


Now if you want to whine about the spelling of his name I don't really care. I've seen it spelled Shuichi, Suichi, and Shuuichi. As for which is right, who the hell knows. I specifically went looking on the YYH Official website and they don't have him listed under his human name, only as Kurama. (In case you aren't familiar with the series no he isn't human, he is a spirit kitsune.)


It's funny how out of 130 reviews on this site, over 300 on mediaminer and over 100 on fanfiction.net you are the only one to date who has managed to attempt to take me to task over such stupid crap. Even more laughable is the fact that you were the one who was confused. As it is I'm going to let your review stand. I'm quite interested in seeing what the other readers think of such idiocity. As always, this is Fanfiction. In other words, my plot, my story. If you don't like how I write, find something else to read.


Thanks for giving me a good laugh for the night, I needed it.

ArcticKitsune: Actually I've heard that term used quite a few times, mainly on AFF in the YAOI fics. In regards to Youko, Hiei, Kuronue, Yusuke, Sesshoumaru and hell even Kouga. Since it was an issue I went ahead and removed it. No, I am not trying to copy anyone else's work by any means. If it comes across that way I am sorry. When I think about it, almost everything I have read in the fics that have been posted have been used at least once by someone else at sometime. It would be an extreme waste of time to hunt out every single detail through four different sites and attempt to find out who said what first. If any one else takes issue to something I put in one of these fics please let me know.
