Eternal Darkness - Chapter 4 -

 

Why had she kissed him? As much as he would have like to Hiei could not forget the tiny slip of a girl who dared to invade his thoughts. Even now when he would have like to be anywhere else he found himself watching her through the window. She sat next to her sister talking and laughing with Kurt. He felt incredible anger over that fact that the blue elf had made her laugh. She's mine!

 

Inside unaware of Hiei's troubled mind Kagome couldn't help feeling that she had failed. She masked her unease easily flirting and joking with her new friends. /Souta I fainted before giving him all the energy…/

 

/We'll fix it tonight muirnín/

 

Before Kagome could say anything Ororo interrupted the conversation. “Professor Xavier would like to have a word with each of you as soon as you are able. Kagome may I have a moment of your time please?”

 

Oh Crap! Silently Kagome followed the wind witch from the room. “Kagome your blatant abuse of your power last night will not be tolerated ever again. I have already spoken to Botan she knows she is not allowed to sleep in Souta's room while attending this school. We do not use our abilities to manipulate others. Do you understand?”

 

“I was wrong to manipulate the situation last night but that doesn't change the fact that I would do it again. Eh I don't care for what you will say,” Kagome held up her hand forestalling the ready retort. “You have said what you will and I apologized we are done here.” Before Ororo could recover the young woman walked off joining her siblings as they headed towards Professor Xavier's office.

 

Back outside Kurama appeared besides the brooding demon. He sat in silence enjoying his friend's discomfort. Noisily Yusuke crashed through the underbrush finally locating his friends in the tree. “Yo what's up?”

 

/Quiet Yusuke there are cameras out here/

 

/Right my bad/

 

/Hn/

 

/Youko thinks the shikon assassins did something during the fight/

 

/Like what/

/We are not sure do you feel different/

 

/No pretty much the same I'm more energized and my senses seem clearer. Hiei/

/I feel as I normally do/

 

/Why's Youko so sure they did something/

The small group lapsed into silence watching the full moon crest the horizon. Each one was thinking about tonight when they would get to search for the nameless evil. Inside Logan watched them on the cameras wondering what they were thinking. Something was going on with the Japanese students and he was determined to find out what they were up to.

/We have to hurry and get them away from here. Adair take Kurama into the forest, Loch you and Yusuke will head towards the city. Stay out of sight…Kagome, Hiei will find you before the moon rises finish it then. /

 

/What will you be doing? /

 

/Botan and I will search for it tonight. If the spirit detectives survive then they can search tomorrow. /

 

Adair and Loch hurried off in search of their partners. Souta disappeared into his room to wait for his lover's return. Kagome shook her head envying her older brother. She walked into her room but didn't get far as she bumped into a very solid wall. The wall moved reaching out to grab her wrist preventing her from moving. “We need to speak onna.”

 

Kagome couldn't waste the energy to block his jagan and the physical contact allowed him the conduit to pry into her memories. At that brief contact images berated his mind. Visions of unknown people swamped him flooding his system. There were many of a young kitsune demon, a demon hunter of old, a monk who seemed more of a playboy then a religious man, a demon with a young girl, an evil demon wearing a baboon mask, but most of the visions were of a young hanyou in red and a pale miko who looked much like Kagome. They flashed by out of sequence but instinctively he knew just what they were, meeting Shippo, kissing Miroku after seeing Inuyasha with Kikyo, the final confrontation with Inuyasha choosing Kikyo for the last time. He saw images of Souta as a young boy younger than Kagome sweeping a shrine there were others of Adair and Loch as young children training to be assassins. Even more still of a family lost and friends long gone.

 

Hiei abruptly pulled back releasing her wrist while trying to stem the flow of memories. It didn't work if anything the memories became sharper more vivid as if demanding to be seen. /Enough no more/

 

At his mental command Kagome's eyes flew open though still shaking from the barrage of emotions she shoved the demon. /Get out of my head! / Kagome snarled within Hiei's mind giving him a not so gentle mental shove to accompany the physical one. The memories slowed now that she was attempting to block them. They took on the consistency of cobwebs lingering in both minds.

 

/I'm not trying to get in your head onna. Stop forcing your memories on me woman/

 

“You idiot it's that jagan of yours. Get control of it or I'll gut you like a chicken.” A wavy blade flashed as she moved her hand from behind her back. Her anger was giving her strength, strength she would not normally have had after draining her energy, to stand in front of him.

 

When she spoke he realized it was true. Somehow without his command the jagan had easily pierced Kagome's barriers and drew out all the memories she held dear and hidden away. With an effort of will he had not needed since he first gotten it he sealed the jagan back until it was finally under his control again. The fact that the jagan had broken free from the iron control it was under told Hiei that something was very wrong. But before he could wonder about it Kagome distracted him.

 

“Since you invaded my mind stole my memories you owe me.” She moved more and more towards the demon backing him into a corner since he refused to run from her.

 

“Hn.”

 

“No Hn…” Before Hiei could react she kissed him. Not the passionate kiss they had shared earlier this one was gentle and sweet. That was until Kagome bit his lip lapping up the blood that oozed from the small wound. Maybe it was the scent of blood or the little mewling noises Kagome made when he returned her kiss, but for some reason Hiei lost control of his beast at that moment.

 

With a growl he grabbed her spinning around until she was pinned against the wall. That didn't last as they fell through the shadows until they appeared in the same meadow they had been in earlier. Hiei barely noticed the change. His attention was focus entirely on Kagome and that thing she did with her tongue. Not realizing it he slammed her against a tree. Her head hit with such force that her teeth clanked together. She laughed drawing him in for another ravishing kiss. Unsatisfied Hiei gripped her hair in one hand drawing it tight to force her head up and to the side. He licked, kissed, nibbled, and bit the side of her neck drawing whimpers from the young reiver. She returned the favor biting his shoulder as he pinned her to the tree.

 

He lifted her up holding her hard against his body. She gasped at the contact her eyes becoming smoky as he deliberately moved. At this time Hiei was having trouble controlling his beast. Mine she belongs to me

 

An onna she's just an onna. One minute Hiei had Kagome pinned against the tree ready to rip her clothes off and the next he was staring at her with a look of disgust in his eyes. Even separated from her he could feel his blood heating desiring her as it had never done for another. The lust was slow to leave his body and he knew instinctively that she had something to do with it. His body felt incredibly hot one moment and frozen solid the next.

 

Pinpricks of pain began flashing through his body in increasing frequency. The pain did nothing to dull his beasts roar. Take her mate her OURS! Even as his senses dulled he reached for her again only to have her easily evade his grasp. Her smile was sad as she watched him teetering on the verge of collapse.

 

With a look of pure loathing he collapsed backwards dead to the world. /It's done Souta. I just gave him the remaining energy he passed out. /

 

/We knew it would be hardest on Hiei, his fire half and his ice half will battle once more for dominance and his jagan will continue to break free until he regains complete control. /

 

/Hai I know you are right what happens if he fails? What happens if any of them fail? /

 

/We must not think about that Kagome. Get some rest muirnín; it's likely you will have much to answer for later. /

 

Kagome pulled Hiei onto her lap stroking his hair as he fought his demons. There was nothing she could do but wait. It was up to him to defeat his worst enemy himself.

Adair walked just behind Kurama. She could sense the energy building and knew it was all about to come to a head. “Kurama…” She waited till the redhead looked at her.

 

“Hai Adair, what is the matter?”

 

“I'm sorry…I was only following orders.” With that said she pulled back the restraints she had set in place allowing the abundance of energy to finally fill his body. There was a brief pause a moment when his eyes were both green and gold. But to soon that moment was gone as the young man's senses were overwhelmed and he was knocked unconscious. Knowing he would be more comfortable next to nature Adair moved him to lie on a thick tree branch.

 

/It is done/

 

/Pretty boy's out? /

 

/Shut up Loch/

 

/Touchy touchy what's with you/

 

/Nothing how is Yusuke faring? /

 

/I sense the energy overflowing in him but he has yet to succumb/

 

/How bad is it/

 

/Blue sparks everywhere should I…? /

 

/Do it/

 

Adair severed the mental link with her twin and opened one with Kurama. Unlike with her brother there were no words only emotions, flashes of pictures. She tried to make sense of what she was seeing and hearing but the connection was fuzzy. Something was trying to keep her out. With a muttered oath she laid herself half on the human body of the demon kitsune Youko. One of her hands came to rest on his heart and the other gently touched his temple. Once she was sure no one was around Adair allowed herself to sink completely into Kurama's nightmare.

Yusuke could feel his energy spiking. He could swear he was glowing blue but Loch seemed oblivious so maybe it was in his imagination. He stopped to look back at his partner. Loch was standing in the middle of the road head cocked to the side as if he was listening to someone only he could hear. Yusuke pondered that for a moment before realizing he could no longer sense either of his companions. He reached out searching for them but it was as if they had dropped off the face of the planet. Only then did he begin to grow concerned.

 

“What the hell did…?” He never got to finish the sentence. Loch had him pinned against a building before he could blink. The young man's eyes were so blue that they mesmerized the young spirit detective.

 

“Just following orders Yusuke, sorry. Don't fight it.” With that said Loch tossed his friend into the adjoining building. The blast knocked Yusuke unconscious and the energy would keep him that way. “Hope you survive man.” Loch muttered picking up his friend to move him to a more secure location.

“They are watching over your son's detectives as we speak. We will know by morning if any will survive.”

 

“Is there something you are not telling me Valia?”

 

“Indeed I could hide nothing from you my lord. I fear that the weapon master is heading back to the school. He will reunite with the assassins by tomorrow night.”

 

“This will be interesting whom do you think she will choose?” Valia shook her head leaving to the sound of her lord and master's laughter as if echoed off the pillars.

Back inside the mansion Professor Xavier watched the footage of the Higurashi's fight. He studied the charts and watched the footage again. On the third go through he noticed something flickering in the shadows behind Kagome. Rewinding the tape he watched it again zooming to see the shadow better.

 

Once he had a clear image he paused and called Logan into the room. “Do you get the feeling the Higurashi children are hiding something from us?”

 

Logan could only nod as he stared at the picture it was enough to make anyone's blood run cold. Kagome was blocking Hiei's blade but that wasn't what drew Xavier's attention. It was the man hiding almost completely out of frame that caught their attention. He seemed ordinary enough long black hair with a bit of a wave to it, pale skin, not to tall. But the sunken yellow eyes made him out as other. His hand was stretched out as if to touch the young woman but even that didn't scare the mutants looking at the footage. It was the pure hatred and lust conveyed in the yellow depths as he watched the youngest Higurashi.
