Fate's Guardians

Chapter 5: Seek and ye shall find

Alecto's house

War was awoken by something, at first he couldn't figure out what it was - but then he realized that Alecto was mumbling and tossing about in her sleep. Kane was awake and sitting next to Alecto trying to get her to wake but it didn't seem to be working. War quickly sat up and went to pull her into his lap, however when his hand touched her she reacted instinctively by lashing out with her claws. War grabbed her hand and pulled her against his chest, struggling to restrain her. Alecto yanks herself away and lashes out again, War did the only thing that he could think to do - he yelled her name and let a tiny amount of power shock her. Alecto came awake instantly, shaking and disoriented.

“What's going on?” She asked quietly.

“Alecto, are you alright? You were dreaming.” War answered.

Kane sat beside her and nuzzled his head against her shoulder while purring.

“It was a nightmare, my past, my parents, my captivity - it was all jumbled together.”

War kneeled in front of her on the bed and placed a hand on her knee “It's alright now Lec, I will help you with whatever you need. I will stay with you I promise.”

Alecto looked up at War and smiled slightly “Thank you War.” Kane meowed, “You too Kane.” She saw something on his cheek and lifted one hand to it, she discovered it was blood - she had managed to catch him with one of her claws while struggling in her sleep.

“I'm sorry.” She said quietly while healing the cut.

“It's alright Lec, really it is.” He lay back down and pulled her against his chest (her back to his chest) and Kane curled up on her other side. “Let's get some more rest.”

“Alright” Alecto mumbled already falling back asleep.

War lay awake for half an hour to make sure that Alecto was sleeping serenely, his arms wrapped around her abdomen one hand resting on her stomach and the other on her hip, his fingers massaging lightly to relax her. Finally he fell asleep too and hoping that Alecto would be able to sleep peacefully.

 

Koenma's office (the detectives have gone home)

“That could have gone better sir.” Botan said.

“I know Botan; but now all we can do is wait and see what Alecto does. We can't interfere with her or the siblings otherwise we'll be in real trouble.”

Botan nods “Do you think she will talk to them sir?”

“She might, it just depends on what she decides about the detectives.” He sighs as he goes back to his work.

 

Sengoku

The group had arrived back at Keade's village with three more jewel shards and a handful of injuries, ranging from bruises and scratches to several sprains. They decided to rest up for a week and Kagome decided to go home for a few days to restock her supplies. As she was preparing to leave Shippo rushed up to her clings to her leg, “CanIgowithyoupleasepleaseplease?”(Can I go with you please please please?)

Kagome blinked then smiled “Alright Shippo, but you have to behave ok?”

Shippo nodded “Yay!”

After Kagome told the others that she was taking Shippo with her and that they would be back in a few days, they headed towards the well. When they reached the well Kagome made sure she had a good hold on Shippo before jumping in. They arrive on the other side of the well and quickly made their way into the house - which was easy since it was getting dark, they did not notice the person watching them from the Goshinboku.

 

Alecto smiled as she watched the girl and kitsune kit as they headed into the house, she had arrived at the shrine earlier in the day after resting for a few weeks. She had left Kane and War at the house so as not to frighten anyone.

{Kane, War Kagome is back and she brought Shippo with her. He's so cute.}^__^

[I'm sure he is Lec. Are you contacting her tonight?] War answered.

(How are things going?) Kane asked.

{Yes I am contacting her shortly and things are going fine for now, if anything happens I'll let you guys know.)

Alecto hopped down from the branches of the God tree, landing without a sound and quietly walking towards the house. She knocked on the front door and waited. When the door opened she saw a little boy standing in front of her. He stared and it appeared he was speechless. Alecto raised an eyebrow “You must be Souta, do you think it would be alright if I talked to your sister?”

Souta nodded before yelling into the house “Kagome.”

“What is it Souta?” Kagome asked as she walked towards the door, but before she could say anything else she caught a glimpse of the person at the door.

“Someone wanted to talk to you.” Souta answered as he looked between Kagome and the stranger. Kagome looked confused and she was slightly worried.

“It's alright; I'm not here to hurt you or your family. I just want to talk to you.”

Kagome nodded and Souta stepped back as Alecto stepped into the house and shut the door behind her. They went into the living room and sat down to talk, Souta following them.

“First I would like to introduce myself, my name is Alecto.”

“Hello Alecto, my name is Kagome Higurashi and this is my younger brother Souta.” Just as she finished speaking Shippo rushes into the room, he stops and stares at Alecto - blinking a few times. “I'm Shippo, who're you?”

“My name is Alecto little kit.”

“What are you? I'm a kitsune.”

“That little one is a much longer answer then I have time to explain tonight, but I am a friend. Anyway I came to visit you, it may not be my place and you probably don't remember me but I knew you before you had a physical body and we were quite close.”

Kagome blinked “You do look familiar and you voice sounds familiar. Wait you're the one that was telepathically talking to me the other day.”

Alecto smiled “Yes, well I thought that it would be best if I came here without an illusion, sorry if I shocked you and yes that was me. It seemed that you needed some help.”

“It's alright, I'm glad you came and I'm sure more memories will come back to me. Thank you, I was able to help Sango.”

“I'm sure they will, and I'm glad that I could help but it's late and I need to be getting home. You all should be getting some sleep as well.” They said there goodbyes and Alecto steppe outside. As Alecto stepped into the shadows she disappeared and arrived back home.

“Well, that was … weird.” Souta said while they all headed to bed. Kagome nodded slightly while carrying Shippo to bed.

 

Alecto walked into the living room and plopped down on the couch next to War and scratched behind Kane's ears.

“That seemed to go really well.” She said.

War raised an eyebrow “Did it?”

Alecto smiles “Yep I believe that it did.” She curls up against War and started watching Love at First Bite and then Edward Scissorhand. She started to fall asleep in the middle of My Best Friend is a Vampire.

“Alright, I think it's time for us to go to bed.” War said.

“I don't wanna.” Alecto mumbled.

War shook his head slightly as he turned off the TV and walked over to close the curtains and shutting out the early light of dawn before lifting Alecto off the couch and heading to the bedroom, followed closely by Kane. The three settled into the bed, quickly falling asleep as the sun came up.
