Chapter 3- First Day of Imprisonment

Homeroom was quick and easy. The five of them sat in the back of the room and waited for the first announcements for the school year. Most where for signups for the new fall activities and to join the many clubs. And to welcome them to their first of many days in the imprisonment they called school, but they called hell.

When the announcement where done their homeroom teacher took roll call, gave them the books they would need the school year. Then they where excused to put their books away and go to first period, which was Senior English.

Once again they all sat in the back of the class, waiting for class to begin. Their teacher leaned up against his desk as everyone entered and took a seat. Most of the girls took the front while the boys opt for the middle since they had the back.

Kagome could understand why the girls sat in front. The English teacher was attractive in a way. He was tall, almost six foot two. His long brown hair was tied back at the base of his skull. Sapphire-blue eyes scanned the room quickly.

“Good morning class. It looks as though everyone is here today.” He said as he checked the clipboard that had the class roll sheet, “I know you all are upset that summers over. But it’s your seniors, and with one year left of our torture. This is why I welcome you to Senior English.”

He grinned at them all, causing the girls in front to swoon at his charm. The guys just glared at him, daring him to make them to read some stupid book about romance and give them crap about “it’s good for you mortal soul”.

“My name is Mr. Tasuni. But I would prefer you to call me by my first name, Kouga. We all are equals are we not?” Kouga said as his gaze swept across the room.

Kagome took a quick intake of air when her English teacher introduced himself as Kouga.

‘It can’t be him. He’s in the past’ She thought to herself.

‘But Kouga is a demon, remember? He could easily be alive today.’ Her mind spoke back.

‘If it is him, then could the others be alive?’ She asked.

‘You mean is he alive. Probably. He is a demon too.’ Her mind replied.

“No. Oh gods no.” Kagome whispered.

Then everything went black.

Yusuke sat behind her as class began. He was half listening to the teacher talking. He was more involved in thoughts of Kagome. That was until the girl began to fall out of her seat and about to hit her head on the solid floor.

He yelled her name out loud, catching everyone attention, before jumping out of his chair to capture her. She landed in his arm awkwardly. Her legs where tangled with the bars of her desk. Kurama, who sat next to her, helped untangle her so she wouldn’t get hurt. Boton come to check and see if she was badly hurt. Her hand over her body she let her energy flow thought the pale girls form. Kurabara blocked them from view.

“She just fainted. It’s nothing threatening. We should take her to the nurse so she can lie down.” Boton said to them all.

“Yes you should.” The teacher said from behind them, “I’ll write all five of you a pass for the rest of the class. Just make sure to stop by at lunch to get your book and homework.”

Kurama took the note from Mr. Tasuni and waited as the others to stand up. Yusuke held on to Kagome a little tighter as they all headed towards the nurses office. Everyone was silent the whole way there, till Kagome began to stir.

Everyone gathered around her as she slowly opened confused blue eyes up at the four of them.

“Kagome? Are you okay?” Boton asked the dazed miko.

“Yeah, I…well, I thought….never mind. It’s embarrassing.” Kagome spoke, a slight blush appearing on her pale cheeks.

“Oh! Well, as long as you’re okay.” Boton said. ‘And have some color returning.’ She thought.

“Do you think you can stand Kagome-chan?” Kurabara asked, worried about his new friend.

Kagome looked down towards the ground and then at Yusuke. Her whole face turning a bright shade of pink and quickly turning red with ever moment Yusuke held on to her.

“You can put me down Yusuke. I don’t think I’m hurt.” She whispered, embarrassed at everyone seeing her being held so close by Yusuke.

He slowly set her down, balancing her in case she was hurt and hadn’t noticed it. Standing on her own two feet now she looked at the worried group of people that surrounded her. She smiled, reassuring her new friends that she was indeed unharmed.

“I can’t believe I fainted. And on the first day of school. Of all days it could happen!” Kagome said a sheepish smile on her face as she tried to change the mood for them all.

She had to admit it was embarrassing. Fainting in class all because her English teacher had the same name as a certain wolf youkai she knew through the other side of the well.

“I wonder what the school will think of me now.” She asked curiously.

“Do not fret so much Kagome-chan. It must be just stress. You’ve moved here and started school all at once. We understand that you might be feeling flustered.” Kurama said trying to ease her worries of what their class might say.

‘Yeah. I’m just flustered from the change of environment. That’s all. It’s got nothing to do with him.’ Kagome thought to herself.

“Why don’t we all go get ready for second period? Then we can go hang out on the roof top.” Boton proposed.

All of them agreed and headed for their lockers. Next was math, which Kurama wouldn’t be in since he was in advanced math.

***Lunch***

Kagome’s worries where put at ease quickly. No one from English had said anything on how the new girl fainted in class. Instead the introduced themselves and went on their merry-way.

She had found out she had a least one of her friends in every class, something she was grateful for because it had helped a lot. She didn’t know what she’d do without them there.

Now, lunch was happening. It was the signal that the day was half behind her now. The others had told her that Kouga, or Mr. Tasuni, wanted to see them all sometime during lunch. So, she quickly ran to his classroom, hoping she would be able to talk to “Kouga” alone. Because if he was her Kouga, she could get a moment alone with him so they could talk without anyone interrupting them.

Knocking on the classroom door she waited, nervous for what was about to come in the next few minutes. A deep voice that reminded her so much of her Kouga-kun called for her to enter.

“Hello Mr. Tasuni. My friends informed me that you wanted us to stop by at lunch.” Kagome said as she stood at the doorway, “I was hoping I could get the homework and go to lunch quickly.”

“Kagome-sama. If I didn’t know any better I would say that you seem nervous. But it has been five hundred years since I last saw you. But to you it seems like just a month does it not?” Kouga asked as he handed her the material for class, “I’m truly sorry about this morning. I didn’t mean to startle you. But the others will be glad to hear you are well. Especially Shippo. Even the might Sesshoumaru misses you, but he’d never admit it out loud to anyone but you.” Kouga said as he smiled down at her.

Before she could give him some kind of response back, the others came in to get their homework as well.

“Hey Mr. Tasuni. You told us to come at lunch to get our homework.” Kurabara said as everyone filed into the classroom.

“Yes, but please, call me Kouga. As I said there is no need for formalities. I was waiting for you all to arrive.” Kouga said as he handed the other four their own book and a sheet with their homework.

“Ooo. We get to read Poe. He’s my favorite author.” Kagome said when she finally noticed what the book was.

“Yes. But we will not read all of his works. Just a few I have selected. By next class you all should have The Black Cat read. We will be writing a paper in class tomorrow on it.” Kouga informed them.

Kagome eagerly shook her head. She was excited to read and write about Edgar Allan Poe. The others weren’t in the same happy mood. Read some story by tomorrow morning, and then have to write a paper on it in class. Didn’t this fool know they’d have homework in other classes?

“Thank you Kouga-kun. We shall see you tomorrow.” Kagome spoke for the gang before they all left to go eat lunch.

All five of them headed to their lockers to put away Kouga’s homework and grab their lunches.

“Where do we want to eat? The cafeteria is too loud for one to eat in peace.” Kurama asked.

“We could go eat on the school roof.” Kurabara offered.

“No. It always has students up there during lunch, especially when it’s nice out.” Yusuke informed them.

“What about in the courtyard? Under that tree we sat at this morning?” Kagome asked as she followed them around as they decided where to eat.

“That’s an excellent spot to eat at. No one is usually out in the courtyard during lunch.” Boton said as she headed toward the school doors.

The five of them sat under the giant Ume tree again as they began to eat their lunches, talking about their day so far. But as a portal, much like Boton’s, appeared the Detectives tensed up and waited for what they knew was coming.

Koenma walked through the portal and as quickly as it came it had disappeared till summoned again.

“Good you are all together. I have a new mission for you all.” Koenma informed the Spirit Detectives.

He stood in front of them in his toddler form, binky in his mouth. He waited for them to get up and ready to leave.

“But Koenma, it’s the first day of school. We still have classes to go too. Can’t it wait till after school?” Yusuke complained. He didn’t want to leave Kagome alone on her first day.

“No. All of you are coming with me. And even you Kagome. Genkai wants you to go on a few smaller missions before you join the Spirit Detectives.” He said, “It won’t take long.”

Another portal appeared and Koenma went through it while the others followed behind.
