Chapter Two- Beautiful Girl

Yusuke couldn’t believe Keiko. He had been so civil with her since the breakup. That was till now. If it wasn’t for all they had went through he would have thrown some secrets of hers that she didn’t want anyone knowing. But he couldn’t do that with Kagome there. What would she have thought of him then?

He didn’t get why Keiko kept throwing their breakup back at him. He knew it was his fault. He was never there for her, couldn’t tell her about his missions. He couldn’t do anything. It was why she ended there two year relationship. Kurama even said that there was no way it would work out, and he had been right. Today had just proved him right. That last comment had gone too far.

So deep in thought he never noticed her coming towards him till her shadow stood over him. He felt ashamed for what happen. He waited for the rejection to come.

“I’m really sorry for what she said. It was uncalled for.” Came her sweet voice, “And how would she know my taste in men? You never know. I could find all the guys at school as a bunch of idiots and wish I could just purify them and be done with them all.”

He smirked at her comment. If she could then the school would have a 20:1 ration of female to men. He was sure the guys who didn’t get purified wouldn’t mind it though.

Looking up he saw her standing with their plates in each or her delicate hands. A smile that made his heart skip a beat was growing across her face. It was contagious, as his smirk appeared on his own face.

“It’s not your fault. It wasn’t working out in the beginning, and it hadn’t changed in the end. It was for the best. I’m sorry for embarrassing you at the diner table. I guess being single again isn’t working out for me. So, I asked some beautiful girl that I just met, and who's out of my league, out.” Yusuke said, ashamed to think a girl like her would want to go on a date with him.

“I’d love to!” Kagome all but blurted out, a light blush tainting her pale cheeks.

“You’d love to what?” Yusuke asked curiously, trying not to get his hopes up.

“To…um…go out with you Friday night. That is, if you still want to.” She said softly, her blush turning a deeper shade of red.

Yusuke watched her carefully. He was shocked by her answer. But with her blushing he began to feel guilty. He didn’t want to push her into going out with him. Was she embarrassed because she felt like she had to go out with him? Or did she like him the same way he liked her?

“You don’t have to feel obligated to go out with me Kagome.” Yusuke said, trying to give her a way out.

Kagome moved to sit down next to him, leaning against the dojo’s wall. Handing him his plate she arranged herself in a comfortable seating position. Or a comfortable as she could get with the skirt she was wearing. Deciding to keep her legs stretched out, she began to eat.

Yusuke watched as she eat her egg salad first, cleaning her fork with her pink tongue. He never though watching a girl licking her fork could ever turn him on, but she could do it. Finished with the egg salad Kagome turned to face Yusuke, a small smile on her face.

“I would like to go with you Yusuke. Not because I feel obligated, but because I want to.” She explained before taking a bite out of her ham sandwich.

Yusuke eyed her out of the corner of his eye. His demon side of him told him she wasn’t lying. But it was telling him something else. Something about being the…One?

“Kagome, What was Hiei talking about when you two met?” Yusuke asked curiously, but wanting to change the subject.

He didn’t know anything about the Shikon no Tama, except that it would grant anyone there greatest desire. He was even more curious at the power of the jewel. He had watched its powers react to her anger and instead of returning to the jewel it entered her.

There was a long silence. He didn’t want to push her into answering him. He’d give her time to gather her thoughts. About to tell her that it was no big deal was when she answered him, in a way.

“I don’t know if I want to talk about it right now. Its something I’m not ready to share all the details about yet.” Her voice was soft as she avoided looking him in the eyes.

Watching her carefully he could see how uncomfortable she was. His demon side boiled at the thought of someone causing her the pain she held inside. His demon demanded they comfort their…soon-to-be mate? Somehow he agreed that she would make a perfect mate. Something they never agreed about with Keiko.

Where Keiko was smart, with an attitude problem, and pretty in a way there was something Kagome had that she could never hope to have. Kagome was a beauty; she was spunky, smart and so much more. He couldn’t even begin to name them off.

“Then you don’t need to push yourself to tell me. I want you to be comfortable and willing.” Yusuke said, pushing a lock of her hair back in place.

Blushing softly she adverted her eyes towards the forest, leaning her head into his hand for some sort of comfort and strength. He reminded her so much of him but different

“The Shikon no Tama is an ancient artifact that has the power to grant any wish. I was given the job to protect it from evil.” She started to say, “But I caused it to shatter into a thousand pieces. My friends and I had to complete the jewel before someone else did.” Her tone was sad as her mind repeated the terrifying memories not so long ago.

“So, you’re the granddaughter the old hag is always telling stories about? You’re the one that travels between the past and present.” Yusuke stated, finally knowing what had happen with Hiei, “Then you know a lot about demons and what we do.”

“I’m not as well informed about demons as you think. Just a little bit of information here and there. As for what the Spirit Detectives do. Grandma Genkai has told me some of your adventures.” Kagome said as her tone turned sad, “Gram’s would say with a little more training I could be great help to Koenma and you four,”

Yusuke noticed how her aura showed the hurt and disappointment she felt at her own words. Did she not want to help them keep the three worlds safe? Or was it something else? Something deeper? To complicated for him to understand right now.

“Well, if you’re done eating we should go help the others clean up. I can’t believe this is the last day of summer. One more year until I’m threw with school” Yusuke said with a large grin on his face and a playful glint in his brown eyes.

“You don’t like school much do you? I don’t either, but I try to do my best, especially with the amount of time I’ve missed. But as the saying goes, all great things must come to an end.”

“Well, I now have a reason to stay in school instead of skipping when I shouldn’t be.” Yusuke said as they walked around the dojo to the front where everyone but Hiei was cleaning up.

Curious of his reason Kagome just had to ask, “What reason is that Yusuke?”

Stopping, he grabbed her plate while leaning down to look clearly into her face, “To see the most beautiful girl I’ve ever laid eyes on. Kagome, I think it was a good thing for you to move here, so we could really meet each other.”

Kagome blushed at the bluntness of his own words.

Yusuke moved even closer to her, giving her a quick peck on the cheek before moving his mouth millimeters from her left ear. He whispered one word into her ear causing her to blush a deeper red.

“Beautiful.”

He walked away towards the others, leaving Kagome speechless and dazed. It took her a moment before she continued up to the front of the shrine to help clean up. She had a slightly pink blush stained to her cheeks still while she helped the girls take the leftovers into the kitchen.

Once all the food was taken away the washed the tables before the strong men, meaning Kurama, Yusuke, and Kurabara, could bring them back into the house.

Kagome watched as Yusuke and Kurama lifted up one of the bigger, heavier tables back inside with ease. She blushed when he took off his shirt to mop up the small sheen of sweat that appeared as he helped. In her own opinion the shirt didn’t do him any justice. The muscles that she hadn’t seen where just as well toned, almost as if the gods themselves had sculpted them from stone. His six-pack was smooth, not a strand of hair was on that godly body of his

Her blush deepened when he caught her staring at him. She turned even redder when he threw his shirt at her, insisting that he would go without it for the rest of the day.

After everything was put away Genkai announced she was going to check in for the night and that everyone should follow her lead. Tomorrow was the first day of school. And the Spirit Detectives had to report to the maika.

Boton had left not long after to inform Koenma of the turn out of their last mission. Keiko had to get home to make sure she had everything for tomorrow. Kurama wanted to check on his mother since she had become sick again. And Kurabara and his sister went home because he hadn’t feed his cat in a while.

All who was left was Hiei, Yukina, Yusuke, and Kagome a lone in the shrines living room. Hiei was sitting on the window seal looking outside. Yukina and Kagome sat across the coffee table playing card games, while talking about this or that. Yusuke lay out on the couch watching the television. Or so it looked like he was.

From where he was sitting he could watch Kagome without looking suspicious and like a complete idiot. He watched as every time she laughed her shirts sleeves would drop over her shoulder slowly. Then she would lift them back, much to his disappointment, only to have them drop back down again.

After play a few games of cards the two girls decided to call it a night. Kagome had school in the morning, just like Yusuke. Yukina and Hiei would stay at the shrine during the day. Hiei would train in the dojo while Yukina would help Genkai when she was needed.

Yusuke followed Kagome down the hall towards his own room that Genkai reserved for him. Hiei and Yukina went down another hallway to their own rooms just for them. The other room where open to anyone else. Only Kagome, Genkai, and he had rooms just for them.

But Yusuke and the others where told by Genkai that one room was off limits and they were never to enter, if they wanted to stay alive that is. Genkai had said only one person could enter. This room happened to be across from his own room, which he found out was Kagome’s room and she could only enter.

When she opened the door he saw all the band posters that covered the walls and the bed and dresser that was inside. Just before she closed the door on him she wished him a good night and sweet dreams, then she disappeared behind the doors room.

Staring out into the hallway from his own bedroom door Yusuke whispered back: “Good night to you too my beautiful Kagome.”

Then he too went to bed.

***Morning***

Kagome woke to Yukina’s gentle voice telling her that breakfast was all ready and everyone was waiting. Once she stretched out all the kinks from sleeping she got up and moved to her dresser. Needless to say her new high school decided to change the school uniform to the same skirt and sailor shirt as her old one.

Pulling out the uniform, with the same red tie, Kagome began to ready herself for school. Her hair free of any tangles, teeth brushed, and clothes on, Kagome grabbed her school bag and headed towards the kitchen.

Yukina had made toast, scrambled eggs, with bacon and sausage for breakfast. Everyone was in the kitchen by the time Kagome came in. Hiei wasn’t sitting at the table but on the window seal. His plate was untouched in front of him.

Yusuke, Yukina, and Genkai where sitting around the small breakfast table. Yusuke had already finished his first plate and was moving to load up another helping. That was until Yukina smacked his hand away.

“Not everyone has had breakfast Yusuke. Wait, and then you may have more.” She said, scolding the poor hungry detective.

In return Yusuke gave Yukina a dirty look and quickly snatched the last piece of bacon before she smacked his hand again. This had gotten him a few reactions, both good and bad.
Yukina glared at him as she loaded Kagome a plate, sadly with no bacon. Genkai smiled at her apprentice tactics. Hiei growled a warning at him at irritating his sister. Kagome just began to giggle.

“It’s alright Yukina.” Kagome spoke with a large grin on her face, “I was going to have some toast and be on my way to school.”

Yukina smiled softly at the young girl and handed her a piece of toast. Glaring at Yusuke again she set plate in front of him, knowing he’d finish it all in a minute. But hoping he’d choke on the food so he’d learn some manners.

Genkai sat silently at the head of the table, finishing her breakfast much slower then Yusuke had. Picking up both Yusuke's and her plate, she stood and headed to the sink where they were to be washed later today. Turning she put her hands behind her back and waited. Yusuke was the first to notice her standing in the kitchen staring at them, waiting to be acknowledged.

“What is it old hag? Getting senile again? Can’t remember what you where going to do for a second there?”

As soon as those words left his mouth he yelped out in pain, jerking his head to glare at her granddaughter, who returned a glare just as deadly.

“My grandmother is not senile Yusuke. Why can’t you respect your elders?” Kagome hissed at him. Then turning her attention to her grandmother she asked curiously, “What is it grandmother?”

Genkai smirked at another one of her granddaughter’s famous mood swings. This was going to be one hell of an idea she had come up with. Now if only she could trick them into agreeing to her plan, then it would be all set. Just as the Makia King had asked.

“Kagome, how would you feel if someone trained you to use your miko powers properly?”

‘It’s the best way to make her agree. Just have to lay my cards out now.’ Genkai thought, trying to hide her amused smile.

“I guess that could be okay. I’m kind of tired of breaking my windows and mirrors anytime I get upset.” Kagome said thoughtfully.

“What about any other skills? Do you wish to learn more?” Genkai asked curiously.

‘Maybe the others could help?’ She thought.

“Grandmother! What are you trying to get at?” Kagome asked, suspicious at what her grandmother was scheming.

‘She better not try to recruit me to be part of the Spirit Detectives!’ Kagome thought angrily.

“I just want you to know how to take care of yourself. With the jewel complete now, demons will be coming to claim it for themselves.” Genkia said trying to scare Kagome into agreeing.

“I’ll help out!” Yusuke popped in, “You’re getting to old, hag. And maybe I can get the gang to help? What do you say Kagome?” Yusuke asked, serious at everyone helping her train.

Kagome looked at Yusuke’s serious expression. Then to Hiei, who just ‘hn’ed. And to her grandmother, who had a small mysterious smile. Did they all plan this or did her grandmother just fool them all? But who was she to look a gifted horse in the mouth. This had been what Miroku, Sango, and Sesshoumaru where doing before the final battle came.

“If it’s okay with everyone, then we can start my training.” She said softly, sealing the deal.

“Good. Now off to school you two. Don’t want to be late on your first day, do you?” Genkai said, shooing them out the door.

Both teens grabbed a piece of toast before leaving. Yusuke was wearing the lime green uniform he had on yesterday, only this one was clean. His hair was slicked back too. He had no book bag, unlike Kagome. He walked tall and proud with his hands folded behind his head.

Kagome wore her uniform. It was the same short skirt with a green trim at the end and with the same matching sailor shirt. Her book bag hung to her right side, bumping softly against her hip.

The two walked in silence the whole way to school. Both occupied in their own thoughts. Yusuke was trying to figure out ways to ask Kurabara and Kurama to help train Kagome, so that maybe she could join them on missions. And Kagome was trying to remember the way they where walking so she could get to school on her own.

Now, finally at the school the two of them had met up with the others; Kurama, Kurabara, Boton, and Keiko. All of them where sitting under a large Ume tree, using its shade to keep cool from the heat as they waited for their imprisonment to begin.

Kagome waved to the four eagerly, all but Keiko who returned one back. Once the two of them got to the tree they all sat down, waiting for the school doors to open for the first day of school. Boton and Kagome talked about what classes they looked forward to and what ones they didn’t. Keiko seemed to have disappeared as soon as Yusuke and Kagome arrived. While they talked Yusuke asked his two teammates about helping with Kagome’s training. Both agreed quickly.

Then the bell rang and the large doors opened. Students slowly walked in; looking back at the last of their few moments of freedom go by. The change from the warm cheerful outside to the cold gloomy inside was drastic.

Kagome and Boton walked in front of the three boys, still talking about what horrifying sports they would have to play in gym class. All five had a line of lockers to themselves. Boton’s was on the left end, then Kurabara, Kurama, Yusuke, and Kagome taking the right end.

As they put their things inside, keeping what they needed for homeroom, they all headed towards class. Having all the same classes, except Kurama with a few advanced, they headed down the hall to English together.

Kagome was walking into class when she was held back by Yusuke who whispered on thing in her ear, “Good luck beautiful.”

Author’s note-

Thank you all for reading. I was so glad when I saw I had reviews. I read them and soon went back to writing. For those who sent them I do plan for Kagome to tell Yusuke what happen. I also plan that someone will smack Keiko around. I do intent to bring other characters into the story from Inuyasha, besides Kagome. Thank you.
