Chapter 9

Believe in Miracles

After they're serious talk, Kurama and Kagome were all out of things to talk about. Deciding that preparing for the trip back to the feudal era would be best spent over the next few days. Kurama decided that he was going to find Higarashi Shrine for Kagome. And so the two left Koenma's office and searched through many older phone books.

Finally, after so many hours of searching, Kurama found where Higarashi Shrine was located. Sure, he could have simply asked her where she had once lived, but foe some odd reason he wanted to impress her. Was this the male part of his brain taking over? Trying to impress and woo said female? His emotions were so screwed up.

He walked back up to Kagome and began to explain that her home had been abandoned many years ago. Kagome wasn't surprised, she was sure that the vortex sent her further into time, she just didn't know how far. Kurama and herself began to make plans to make a visit to her old home.

Making the arrangements, Kurama and Kagome found themselves on a highway heading from upper Tokyo to lower Tokyo(A/N: I have no idea were Kagome or Kurama live so I made it up) And were soon driving up in the Shrine's gate. Kagome was shocked and emotions plagued her. The home she had grown up in was in complete shambles. The wood was rotting and falling apart, the house was condemned and the well shed was falling in.

She got out of the car slowly, followed closely by Kurama. Ignoring the trespassing warning posted on the door of the house, Kagome went in. The door gave in quite easily. As she proceeded inside, the floorboards creaked and moaned, the years taking its toll upon them. She carefully maneuvered around weak spots and made her way through each room.

Kurama stood in the door way, leaning on the weak door frame, clearly being eaten away by termites. After the bottom floor was explored, Kagome made her way upstairs, only after receiving a warning from Kurama to be careful. She went into her mom's room, it was dusty and nothing remained in it. The walls bare, only left with dust marks from were old pictures had hung. Shw closed the door back, and went to her brother's next. It was the same, bare. A few cobwebs and a truck load of dust in it. She closed the door on that part of her past, then moved to her own room.

She was shocked to hell. It was full, all of her belongings remained in it. She walked in and sat on her bed. She rubbed the fabric, stirring up multitudes of dust. She got up and looked around, she sensed something, and it was coming from her desk. She pulled open all of it's drawers, revealing paper, school books, and other female memorabilia.

She still sensed it, something she had felt before but as much as hated to admit it, her miko powers and seriously declined over the years away from the past. She mussed with the paper, moving it and revealing a small pinkish/purplish crystal. Her eyes lit up and she remembered everything. This was the Shikon no Tama, the sacred jewel of four souls.

She couldn't believe it, she had had it for all this time and had never once remembered it. She thought she had given all of the jewels she had to Inuyasha. Unless, someone had planted it there. But who? The one likely criminal was Naraku. But why did he want her to find it? As the mystery thickened she then thought of the possibility that it had been there all the time and that luck was just smiling down upon her.

Could she believe in miracles? Not until she knew it worked. She began to walk back down stairs, the jewel fragment safely tucked away in her pants pocket, when the stairs decided to give out from under her. She fell, tumbling down the stairwell, she didn't make it down all the way like she thought she was, but instead she had found her way into the protective arms of Kurama.

"Are you alright?" He asked concerned. His eyes reflecting the care he held for her. Kagome slowly nodded, looking surprised, she kept her eyes locked to his. "I found something." She stated, long-winded.

"What is it?" He asked, looking at her, very curious. "Well come on, if it works I'll explain everything." She answered, grabbing hold of Kurama's hand and dragging out the door to the well shed. She hoped that she would be able to reach it. Luck was surely shining down upon her. There was a clear path to it.

"It's a miracle." She breathed out, her eyes wide in amazement. She turned back to Kurama and flashed him a smile and eagerly flagged him on in to the shed. The couple stopped at the lip of the well. She took Kurama's hand and told him to jump in with her and not to let go of her hand.

He nodded, it sure wouldn't bother him not to let go of her hand, hell if he didn't have any self control, she would have to beat and pry him off of her with a bat. As he finished his thought, he found himself falling down into the well and soon being engulfed by a bright pink light.
