-Chapter five: A life lost, a relationship gained-

The rain was beating down on the youkai that had gathered in the small clearing. Water coming down like a never ending waterfall, but Kagome seemed to have noticed it, the only one without some kind of makeshift umbrella. She had a blank look upon her face, violet hair plastered to her forehead, her black kimono soaked and clinging to her like a second skin.

Reimei was beside her, along with her father, kenkou, heads bowed in prayer. She absently wondered if she was the only one not praying. She was fighting tears, and losing badly. Her nose burned and she clinched her teeth. She wouldn't cry, not now, not in-front of everyone. She would be strong, for Anraku.

She had died during the night, so unexpected, yet Kagome knew it was inevitable. She had been getting worse since the say Reimei had told her. Anraku had the strength to fight it but she gave up. She gave up! Kagome's eyes closed tightly, the tears blinding her view of the small funeral. Her legs felt weak and she trembled from the cold. Her mind didn't want to except it but it was almost impossible not to. She was dead...

That thought passed though Kagome's minds and a tear fell from a closed eye, unnoticed and mingling with the harshly falling rain. Her mouth opened in a whimper, a sob threatening to choke her. The urge to pull out her hair and scream was great.

'How could she leave me?!' her mind screamed, seeming to echo throughout her thoughts.

She could feel Reimei staring at her, could feel the worried rolling off him in waves. She was close to a breakdown and he knew it, anyone close to her did. More eyes turned to her and she growled deep in her throat, more tears spilling past her eyelids. Her teeth were still clinched and she snapped her eyes open. They were blood shot and starting to get puffy. A sob tore from her throat and she turned and fled, her hair and wings flapping in the winds.

Reimei was tempted to go after her, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him. He turned sorrowed eyes to Kenkou, who shook his head.

"She..needs to be alone." Kenkou spoke softly, his heat breaking a the pain coming from his daughters aura.

Reimei growled but stayed back, his eyes trailing across the grave sight. Almost everyone had come to see Anraku's spirit off. Her son, Kuronue he thought his name was, was standing at the edge of the clearing. His light violet eyes staring at the place Kagome had once stood.

T he feeling was back again the over whelming need to scream. So she did. Stopping in the middle if the forest, falling to her knees, mud building up around her, she screamed. A heartbreaking sound that was sure to be heard for miles. The rail hadn't let up and the wind was swirling around her violently. The trees seeming to lean in, trying to comfort her.

Her throat was raw when she finally stopped, her tears threatening to drown her. Burying her head in her hands, she cried. She was covered in mud, her body shaking violently as the rain fell down, the heavens feeling her pain. She couldn't remember the last time she cried, only the few tears she shed when her mother was killed. She had vowed never to cry again, to never show that weakness of hers.

She whimpered, her tears slowly coming to a stop. She sniffed, bringing her hands up she wiped her tears away, smearing mud on her cheeks. She lifted her head up, the rain washing her face, cooling her down. A calm washed over her, leaving her feeling..better? That confused Kagome but she brushed it aside and stood, or tried to. Her legs buckled underneath her and she almost anticipated the fall.

A wave of confusion hit her, where was the feeling of mushy mud? The hurt of sharp rocks jabbing in her back from the fall? A pare of strong arms tightened around her and pulled her up into a standing position and on instinct, Kagome latched onto the youkai's shoulders for support. She looked up to see a pare of Violet eyes staring down at her.

'Kuronue..' her mind whispered, remembering Anraku's son's name. But her vocal cords had a different name for him.

"Okinawa." she murmured. Her legs feeling stronger, she pulled away from him, only to be pulled back into his strong chest.

"I thought I told you not to call me that," he mumbled to her, his head coming to rest on her shoulder. "But...I'll forgive you for it this time."

Kagome blushed at his close proximity, then squeaked in surprise when he nuzzled the side of her face. Maybe the death of his mother damaged his brain somehow? His shoulders where shaking, and to her shock, something warm and wet was running down her shoulder.

Her eyes turned pained and she latched her arms around his waist, hugging him back. She knew he would be embarrassed about crying in-front of her later, but she brushed that thought aside as she tried to comfort him. The rain had let up, only a light drizzle. The wind was just a slight breeze, and the sun had appeared, causing Kagome to squint her eyes and bury her head in Kuronue's chest.

Kagome looked up when Kuronue loosened his hold on her. His eyes were cast down, blood-shot and puffy , his cheeks were a dark crimson. She fought back the giggle that had built up at his sudden nervous-ness. She shivered suddenly, catching his attention.

"I'm cold." Kagome said, her teeth chattering when a strong wind barreled though the forest. She weakly punched Kuronue in the arm when he chuckled. "No funny, baka okinawa." She gasped when he picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder.

"Don't call me that, and I'll take you back to the village." he offered, already heading in the direction of the village.

Kagome sighed, her body going limp. "If I had the energy, I would so bite your wing."

"Mmm," murmured Kuronue, adjusting his grip. "I never pegged you for the kinky type."

Kagome snorted, slapping at his hand when it came to rest on her thigh. "Yeah? Well, I think you've been around that pervert kitsune to damn long."

Kuronue blinked, "How did you know he was a pervert?"

"Ha! All kitsunes are perverts."

"I find that offensive."

Kagome looked up at the new voice. Youko was walking behind Kuronue, arms crossed and a cute pout on his lips.

Kagome scoffed. "I wouldn't. Your kind thrive on affection, mainly sex. I would bet you would die within the week if you didn't get laid at least twice."

There was a socked silence, until Kagome broke it. "What?"

"You have a very vulgar mouth for a girl." Kuronue said, chuckling at the shock still in his best friends aura.

"Yeah, well, that's what happens when you live with men." Kagome shrugged, not concerned with it. "Besides, cursing spices up the sentence. Stop laughing! It's true!" She whined, the laughter between the two youkai increasing at her tone. "Keh."
