Chapter 2: Raven

Kagome slowly crawled out of the well and threw the yellow bag out. Well, at least Inu Yasha didn't put up too much of a fight. I will have to bring extra ramen as a thank you. She pushed open the well door and took a good look around. From what she could tell, the shrine was empty. Glancing at the sun, she knew her Mother was off at work while Sota was more than likely at a friend's house. Kami knows where her Grandfather was.

The figure in the trees watched as the young girl came out of the well house. Good, she checks her surroundings first. She will do well. The figure smirked before leaping gracefully from the branch and landing in front of the startled girl. They watched in amusement as the poor girl instantly went for her bow. Hmm…I guess I better stop her before she hurts herself. She is too exhausted to shoot an arrow at me right now.

Kagome was freaky out. No, wait, that was an understatement. She was so close to shitting herself when that THING leapt from the trees. Oh fuck, what am I going to do now?

“Easy. I mean you no harm. I was sent here by Midriko.” The cloaked figure said. It raised two hands and pushed back the black hood. Kagome found herself face to face to a young woman shorter than herself. She had long dark hair and dark eyes. She gave a small smile as Kagome relaxed. It was then she noticed the three claw marks that ran across her cheek. Silently wondering where she got them Kagome put down her bow.

“Kagome. It's nice to meet you…”

“Raven.” The young woman answered.

“Eh, yea! Nice to meet you. Would you like to come inside for a moment? I am beat and I really would like a bath!” Kagome chirped. Raven laughed.

“Of course, I think you for your hospitality.” The two women turned and headed in the house. Unknown to them a certain toddler prince had been keeping an eye on them.

Kagome gave a heart felt sigh as she settled in the chair across from Raven. The bath felt wonderful and she would have fallen asleep if her curiosity about Raven didn't get the best of her. Now she sat across the table from the small woman who sipped a cup of tea.

“Tell me about yourself, Kagome.” Raven finally broke the silence.

“Me? Why would you want to hear about me?” Kagome asked, a little startled.

“I mean no offense.” Raven waved her hands in front of her, “I just would like to get to know you better. It also helps me determine your strengths and weaknesses. I can already tell you don't have much confidence in yourself. That is something we will work on.”

“Oh, sorry. Well, I am 17 years old, almost 18. I like archery and ODEN! Wait, that doesn't go together. Oh well, I have been traveling back and forth between here and the Feudal Era collecting shards of the Shikon no Tama from a nasty hanyou named Naraku. My traveling companions are an Inu hanyou named Inu Yasha, a kitsune kit named Shippo, a youkai exterminater named Sango and a monk named Miroku, only he is a real hentai and can't keep his hands to himself. And well….” Raven put her hand over Kagome's mouth while laughing.

“I can tell you always think of others before yourself. We may have more in common than you think. Would you like to start your training now?” Raven asked.

“Sure!” Kagome sang. She rushed up stairs to put on something a bit more suitable than her school uniform and rushed down stairs. Raven awaited her standing in a pair of black pants and boots. Her shirt was white and sleeveless showing off an interesting tattoo. It was a black cat that curled around her arm. Kagome could have sworn it blinked at her.

“Come, Kags. Let's start with some meditation. You need to relax your mind so you can have better access to your miko abilities.” Raven led her outside and under a tree. Kagome sat crossed-legged in front of Raven and took a deep breath. “Now relax, Kags. I want you to envision your miko powers. Tell me, what color are they?”

“Purple.” Kagome answered.

“Good. I want you to ever so carefully coax it out into your hands.” Kagome did as she was told and ever so slightly her hands started to glow purple. “Now listen carefully. I am going to place something in your hand. I want you to think of it as an extension of your arm. Let your power flow into it and around it.” Kagome felt something placed in her hand and did as she was told. “Now, don't panic and open your eyes.” Kagome did as she was told and almost gasped. Raven had placed a simple stick in her hand and now it glowed purple with her miko powers.

“What in the world?” Kagome whispered.

“In the world indeed,” Raven laughed. “You have extended you miko powers into an object. You will be able to do this to almost any weapon you hold. Provided of course, it can handle you miko powers. The stick is unharmed because of the fact it is merely a stick, once a living and thriving plant.”

“Wow.” Kagome said, suddenly feeling tired. She swayed a bit and the purple light vanished. Raven steadied her.

“Easy there. Don't faint on me. I promise it will get easier with practice. I will leave you with this today.” Raven got up to leave.

“Raven, wait.” Kagome got up. “When will I see you again?” Raven chuckled.

“Don't worry, Kags. I will come every day and train you.” Raven smiled. Kagome pushed a rock with her foot not looking up.

“What about when I go back to the Feudal Era?” she asked. Raven frowned for a moment.

“That does present a little problem. Well, I guess I will accompany you and help you rein havoc on your unsuspecting shard hunting group.” Kagome looked up at her and smiled.

“Thank you for everything, Raven.”

“No problem. Just keep practicing and I will see you tomorrow!” with a small wave Raven disappeared down the shrine steps. Kagome stayed outside a little longer before heading upstairs to catch up on her homework. She couldn't wait to see Inu Yasha's reaction when she brought Raven through the well. I wonder what he will think of her. I like her already; she's kind hearted and a patient person. She is someone I can easily talk to. Sango and she are going to get along great. Miroku might annoy her at first, but she seems to forgive so easily that they will become great friends in no time. Shippo will absolutely love her because she is so playful. Thank you, Midriko. You were right, I am going to get along great with my new teacher…or should I say, friend.
