Chapter 5: The Truth Revealed
Kagome sighed as she watched Inu Yasha and Raven go at it, again. It seemed the hanyou had a knack for setting off her teacher. Sango and Miroku looked on. Kagome had to stifle a giggle from watching their heads go back and forth as if it was some ping pong tournament. Shippo opened one eye from his place curled in Raven's jacket.
“Baka! Leave Raven alone!” Shippo jumped up from his spot. Said hanyou ignored the kitsune kit and continued to lash out at the young woman. Raven stood before the hanyou, her eye twitching in irritation. Finally finding that she couldn't take another insult, she pulled a blade from seemingly no where. Kagome looked on in awe. I hope she teaches me how to do that.
“Ha! You think you can take me on, woman?!” Inu Yasha sneered.
“I guess there's only one way to find out, eh?” Raven smirked. She slid her feet back into a stance as Inu Yasha drew a transformed tetsusaiga. That perked everyone's' attention. “Kags!”
“Oh, yea! Sorry, Raven!” Kagome stood between the two fighters. “First one down loses! On the count, one…” she looked over to Raven. She knew she was a good fighter, but to fight Inu Yasha? “…two…” stealing a glance over to said hanyou, he looked ready to put Raven in her place. “three…”
“GO!” both opponents shouted as they charged. Inu Yasha brought up tetsusaiga to swing down upon the unsuspecting woman only to have her dodge out of the way at the last moment. She brought her own blade around to catch his unguarded back. Inu Yasha sensed her behind him and swung around to meet her attack. A spark emitted from the meeting blades as Inu Yasha looked shocked. There is no way she should have been able to keep up with me, much less dodge my attack! “Ah!” he dodged her fist. Dammit, keep focus! Raven smirked as he moved out of her way. She had been itching for a good battle for a while and though the hanyou could be considered a push over she wasn't going to over exert herself. No need for anything, unexpected to happen. As he blocked her attack again, she brought up her knee and caught him in the gut. Inu Yasha doubled over but was able to stay upright. Sango watched the fight with trained eyes and was amazed at Kagome's new teacher's ability. She isn't all she seems to be.
“Don't hold back on me now, puppy!” Raven taunted. This got Inu Yasha up and back at her again, throwing his claws into the mixture. The rest of the group looked on in amazement as the movements became quicker until they were almost blurs. The only sounds they could hear was the quickening of the fighter's breaths and the swishing, clanging of claws and blades. A few sparks would admit when the swords met but besides that they couldn't seem to keep up with the fighters. A snarl emitted from the pair, a very inhuman snarl and Kagome could have sworn it came from Inu Yasha, but the snarl had a feminine sound to it. Was that Raven? She thought to herself as she saw a silver blur fly across the clearing into a tree. She gasped. It was Inu Yasha! She glanced over to Raven to see her panting, an odd gleam in her eyes as she clutched her blade tighter, blood running down her hand and onto the blade from the sheer force of it.
“Damn.” Raven mumbled as she walked over to Inu Yasha. Said hanyou was slumped beneath a tree breathing hard as he looked at the young girl through his bangs. What the hell? Inu Yasha thought as she came and knelt before him. “Are you alright?”
“Feh. Like I need your help.” Inu Yasha snapped. Raven became upset.
“Hey! Its not my fault you can't hold your own against me.” She stuck her nose up in the air as she turned her back on him. Kagome rushed over and began to check the sneering hanyou for injuries. You're lucky, Inu. Kagome thought. She could have done worse to you. Kagome's hands began to glow a bluish color as Inu Yasha's scratches healed. He huffed as he got up and with a final glare towards Raven's general direction leapt into the tree to settle himself into a branch. Kagome approached Raven, unsure if her help was wanted. “Don't worry, Kags. I'm fine.” Raven smiled at the girl. Kagome gave a small smile back.
“How in the name of Kami were you able to do that?” Sango asked. Raven looked sick for a moment before putting her hand behind her head and giving a small laugh.
“Do you think the Tama would give Kags here a weak trainer?” Raven smirked.
“Can you teach me how to conceal my weapons?” Kagome asked.
“Of course! Sango is welcomed to join us as well.” Raven said with another small smile, this one directed to the exterminator.
“I would really like that, Raven.” Sango smiled. Anything she learned from Raven was now very welcomed since she just saw the young girl in action. The three girls headed towards a different clearing they saw back not too long ago to train in peace. Miroku looked up at Inu Yasha.
“You seem to enjoy pestering Lady Raven, Inu Yasha.” Miroku remarked.
“Feh, none of your business monk.” Inu Yasha snapped.
“I must admit, while you two were fighting I sensed a great power from her. I don't think she is all what she seems.” Miroku said. Inu Yasha looked down at the monk for a moment before pondering. He's right. There is something about her that is not normal. Maybe that's why I continually pester her. Feh, what am I thinking. I do it just to get a rise out of her. A scream split through the clearing.
“The girls!” Miroku yelled before sprinting the way the girls went. Inu Yasha jumped from the tree and followed.
Raven watched quietly while Sango and Kagome sparred. She smiled as Kagome blocked a tricky move from Sango with her katana. She is learning quickly. She will be ready before she knows it. But can she ever accept me fully for what I am? She is a miko and while she has the most caring and pure heart I have ever seen, it doesn't mean she will accept me when she knows the truth. Sango disarmed Kagome again sending her katana flying across the clearing to land in front of an unfamiliar pair of feet. Raven looked up, wondering when that demon was going to step into the clearing. She could sense the demonic aura approaching but since it didn't scream at her danger she didn't bother to say anything. But the looks on Sango and Kagome's faces told her she should have said something. Raven uncurled from her spot and stood up, facing the demon.
“Sesshomaru.” Kagome whispered. The demon lord of the Western Lands looked down upon the miko. She has grown in strength since our last encounter. Now she even wields a katana. The exterminator has also picked up a few new tricks.
“Demon.” A cold voice awoke him from his musings. He looked behind the two girls to noticed a third, one he didn't even sense before. His amber eyes narrowed in irritation. The young girl was small with long dark hair and the darkest eyes that if he wasn't who he was, he would have shivered. She wore odd clothes like the hanyou's wench but there was a definite sense of power radiating off of her, a lot of it.
“Human.” Sesshomaru barely smirked. The young girl snorted.
“Kags, you didn't tell me that all pompous puppies have no manners.” She sneered. Sesshomaru stiffened. Did that insolent human just call me a puppy?!
“Raven.” Kagome whimpered, “What are you doing?” Sesshomaru tore his gaze from the small woman to glare at the miko. So, Raven is it. What an unusal name.
“Where is my little brother, wench.” Sesshomaru said in his cold indifferent voice. He noticed out of the human named Raven stiffen, and then let out a very demonic growl. Now that got his attention. “You dare growl at this Sesshomaru, human?” The girl stopped and then started laughing. What the hell?! Sesshomaru thought.
“Does he always talk in the third person?” Raven gasped between fits of laughter. Kagome gave a small nod and backed up slowly. Raven suddenly noticed the fear in both girls' scents and stopped. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the demon lord. I don't like what he's doing to them. He knows he's intimidating them and is enjoying it. She drew her blade from no where again. The demon lord looked surprise that she would draw a weapon against him and pulled out his own. Raven gave her blade a swirl before pushing Sango and Kagome behind her.
“Trying to protect them, wench?” Sesshomaru asked as he slowly approached the girl.
“Stay out of this one, you two.” Raven said while never taking her eyes off the demon lord. Sesshomaru suddenly flew at her and Raven brought up her blade just in time to catch the demon lord. Kagome let out a scream. Raven threw the demon lord back and off of her. She is stronger than I thought, no matter, this will be quick. Sesshomaru caught her blade again and almost didn't see her fist. He pulled back just in time to see it fly by his face, her eyes held a murderous gleam to them. She's out for blood.
Inu Yasha and Miroku burst through the clearing to see Raven take a hit from the demon lord. Amazingly she didn't even seem fazed and increased her efforts tenfold. What the…?! Inu Yasha stared on in amazement as Raven landed a hit in the demon lord's face. Sesshomaru stumbled back a bit, surprise that she hit him and that it actually hurt.
“Sorry about that, wouldn't want to ruin that pretty face of yours.” Raven growled. Her voice sent shivers down the rest of the group as Sesshomaru let out a growl of his own and came back at her. Raven gave an `eep' and dodged. The demon lord pivoted and came back effectively pining her to a tree by her arms. Raven's blade clattered to the ground. She let out a string of curses and growls at the demon lord who was nose to nose to her.
“Let her go, Sesshomaru!” Inu Yasha growled brandishing Tetsusaiga.
“Stay out of this, puppy!” Raven snarled, her eyes never leaving the demon lord who had her pinned.
“What is with you and calling things `puppy'.” Sesshomaru growled at her, his eyes flashing red. Raven's eyes flashed red before she growled low.
“Release me, Lord Sesshomaru.” Her hair fanned out in some unforeseen wind as her eyes stared red. He released her and slowly backed up, his eyes narrowing.
“A demon. How amusing.” He smirked at her. She snarled again before she started to transform. Kagome grabbed Sango's arm as she watched on in wonder. Raven's ears became pointed and fangs appeared in her mouth. Her delicate hands grew claws while her dark hair grew even longer with red tips. Three blood red stripes where on each of her cheeks while something like a black diamond was on her forehead. Swish swish. Kagome gasped. Is that a tail?! A long silky black tail twitched on the ground behind her in annoyance as the demon lord continued to smirk. “A shadow hell hound demoness. Your kind is not supposed to exist.”
“A dog demon, how fitting, puppy.” Raven growled. Sesshomaru smirked and slowly stood before the demoness. Raven gave another snarl but stood her ground. Sesshomaru bowed his head to the shock of everyone else.
“An honor, my Lady. I hope we have the chance to do this again.” He took her hand and placed a delicate kiss upon it before leaving. Raven looked at her hand in disgust before wiping it on her pant leg. Inu Yasha's mouth twitched as if he wanted to say something.
“What?” Raven asked. Kagome wanted to fall to the ground.
“You're a demon?!” she asked. Raven sighed.
“I am sorry, Kags. I wanted to tell you but I didn't know how you would react to be trained by a demoness.” Raven looked down, her tail wrapping itself around her waist.
“What makes you think that I would look down upon you for what you are?” Kagome asked.
“Kagome, you don't know what she is, do you?” Sango asked. Kagome shook her head. “Shadow hell hounds were supposed to be wiped out centuries ago. They were feared before they were immune to holy powers.” Raven snorted.
“We're not immune. We just…have our own version of that.” She said quietly, a delicate claw tapping her chin.
“They are very powerful and deadly demons.” Sango finished.
“Ah, but it was considered the highest honor to have the respect of one, Lady Sango.” Miroku said.
“And even more so if they were your friend, right Raven?” Shippo jumped up on her shoulder, not sure why everyone was so distant. It was just Raven.
“Shippo's right. I don't care what kind of demon she is. Raven is our friend, guys. She never gave us a reason to doubt her.” Kagome said. Raven gave a small smile.
“Thanks, Kags.”
“No problem. Now, are you going to teach me to do any of that?” Kagome asked a little excited. Raven laughed.
“What ever your heart desire, my little sis.”
WHOA! FINALLY! I thought I would never be able to get this one done! It took a lot out of me. Hopefully ya'll enjoyed it!
